I can honestly say this place is awful Food cardboard, Manager ignoring us and unhelpful insulting and outright awful to us both!! Smelled rotting wood. Waited a whole hour for food! Never in my life have i said how bad a hotel was until now! I REPEAT! DO NOT GO HERE EVER!!

*Booths*: £4.25, coffee 6/10 (no flat white option so too milky), roll 7/10 (good quality, no butter/only marg). Overall 7/10 *Cranstons*: £3.85, coffee 2/10 (just not good), roll 7/10 (Cumberland is best of all deals, very peppery/spiced, no butter/only marg, nice chutneys, bread roll a bit doughy) Overall 5/10 *Greggs*: £2.85, coffee 7/10 (actually decent, a bit highly caffeinated for me), roll 5/10 (decent at the price point, always bacon though as sausage are low quality, no butter/only marg) Overall 6/10 *Tim Hortons*: £3.50, coffee 3/10 (just go black coffee in which case 7/10, everything else far too milky), wrap 5/10 (tastes kind of nice at the time, but you know it’s crap - like crack) Overall 4/10 *Rheged*: £4.25, coffee 8.5/10 (no flat white option so too milky), roll 8.5/10 (good quality, butter, lovely crunchy roll, bacon or sausage as an option are fine and an extra quid for both) Overall 8.5/10

Pricey with small portions, burgers were decent but you can buy better lattice fries at aldi, they were a bit soggy and underwhelming so say the least, maybe an exta minute or two in the fryer wouldnt go a miss. Had to wait a good 10 minutes after ordering and had it fired on top of itself out tray. will probably be back but I won't be rushing

First time we’ve been here in eighteen months. It’s so sad, the food here is incredible. A really good Chinese. But the service is pitiful at best. We got home with our takeout (a twenty minute drive) to find one of our main dishes missing. This is why we’ve not been for a while because missing dishes was becoming a regular occurrence. Spoke to the manager and there was no concept of the inconvenience or offer of recompense. If you order a takeaway you wait an age after the time you’re told because the kitchen can’t cope. And then some of the order is generally missing. If you eat in the restaurant you wait an age because take-away orders take priority.

Nipped in for lunch. There was a queue but staff are really efficient at managing and we were seated in no time. Sausage butty with poached egg and cheese on toast ordered along with cappuccinos arrived in no time and were very tasty. Busy place but had a relaxed atmosphere. Everywhere was spotless. We will see you again... very soon ☺️

I was concerned to read the poor reviews as we were going to have afternoon tea to celebrate a wedding anniversary and two birthdays. I need not have worried - the food was wonderful with interesting flavour combinations and good sized portions, the staff were efficient yet friendly, the views were lovely from the well furnished/fitted Orangerie.

We were warmly welcomed by someone behind the bar. Was originally just going to stop for a quick drink but we decided to have food. Glad we did as it was all very good. Traditional pub food with some additional options. The salt &pepper fries were just lovely. Friendly service and good value. Would recommend.

We have just returned from a lovely 3 night stay at the Horse and Farrier. An historic Coaching Inn that has been updated with modern facilities, but retaining it's traditional charm. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfy with tea and coffee making facilities and a spacious bathroom. We enjoyed our first evening meal there and because of that took our other two evening meals there - why would we go anywhere else? Breakfast was good too, with fruit, cereals and pastries followed by (if you wanted it) a full Cumbrian cooked plateful. All in all a very enjoyable stay.
