We live/work in Appleby. We went in a few years ago and it was ran or owned by a creepy little man who kept interrupting us making stupid jokes as we were trying to read the menu. Even when we were eating he was pesty so so finished off our meals and drinks, walked out and never went back. Now it's recently under new ownership/management and we went in and the atmosphere is so much lighter! Helen served us a gorgeous properly cooked Full English Breakfast with a cuppa and cake, she's an absolutely lovely lady, bright, intelligent and hard working with a good sense of humour. Cafe is clean and tidy and well organized. There's no loo but there are up at the Public Hall just around the corner. We love you, Helen, and will be back!

We were on a steam-hauled train that called at Appleby for one and a quarter hours. We wanted something to eat and walked into town. We came across this cafe and ordered two baguettes (one to take away) and two cream scones. The baguettes were freshly filled and served with some salad. Very tasty. They kept the one to be taken away in a fridge until we were ready to leave. The scones were superb, with delicious jam and proper clotted cream. All served very promptly. Great food, good prices, and friendly and helpful staff.

My wife and I both enjoyed a delicious sausage and fried egg sandwich (bun/barm/roll). We were welcomed by a lovely mother and daughter team who we believe had just taken over the cafe. Coffee was lovely and came with hot milk when requested. Clean and pleasant environment and will definitely return.

As someone who has been going to Taste of Eden for years and always loved the food, it is disappointing that it seems to have changed hands and the food standards have severely dropped. Staff seem unsure of what they have in stock; we ordered two baguettes and unfortunately both were stale. The cheese tasted sour and both had a strange smell. A real disappointment and unfortunately, not somewhere I will be returning to.

Being vegan and GF I was so surprised I could be fed and to have a choice was a wow! Homemade soup was delicious as was the fruit cake. The owners were lovely and the place was spotlessly clean. Sad that I have only discovered this place to find out the owners retire at the end of May. Mr Taste of Eden was such a character I felt I'd been on the set of 'One Foot in the Grave'. I left worh a smile on my face. If we don't see you before happy retirement and I'm sure Appleby will miss you both.

We found this hideaway cafe up a little street and what a gem it was. I felt bad as we are a noisy group who giggle and laugh at usually anything and we do try to behave but the four of us are all around 60 so not much hope really!. We sat down and we were greeted by a lovely lady that didn't seem to mind me and my sister were a bit loud. Sorry if she did x The cakes were fresh and beautiful and my sister managed to get a GF cake so she was happy. The coffees were perfect and even though it was a small cafe they had none dairy milk so again my sister was sorted out. After a while they came round twice with a coffee top-up which was great and both staff were friendly and warm and 100% we will be back next year. Thank you for being such a lovely warm and friendly team with a great service level.

What a fab little cafe. We began our trip to the Scottish Highlands by stopping off for breakfast here. The owners were welcoming chatty and the food was delicious. We enjoyed chatting with the customers too. It really was a lovely find on our trip. Thank you for making us feel so relaxed and happy at the beginning of our holiday. We totally recommend this place! It was lovely. Lovely people, lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Go there!

Excellent little place but very friendly and perfect for a light lunch. The smoked rarebit was superb but the thing that really struck us was the friendliness of the owners. If we return to the area we would seek this cafe out ...it was that good. Those of us who are now travelling again must make every effort to support the independent businesses wherever possible.

Found this fantastic little cafe and cake shop whilst exploring lovely Appleby. Its fantastic with the best cuppa I have had in a while and the most fabulous cakes. After some deliberation I went for the lemon meringue with cream which was absolutely amazing with the most generous portion and enormous meringue! My wife went for the scone cream tea and she enjoyed every mouthful. Do yourself a favour and seek out this wonderful little cafe with great service from the two ladies who work there. Looking forward already to a return visit.....maybe the Victoria sponge next time!

I've visited many cafes in my life. The only time I have had a latte made from UHT/longlife milk was when we lived in Africa and there was no fresh milk available. That was a bad start. After ordering my roll with sausage and mushroom there was no sound of frying from the kitchen. Only microwave pinging.... when the roll came out, part of it stuck to the plate when lifted. (Frozen and been microwave-thawed??) I was disappointed to see one sausage inside and about 4 thin, thin slices of mushroom. Sausage was halved lengthways to help it to look more substantial. ONE SAUSAGE???? Never have I ever only had one sausage in a roll when buying from a cafe. I don't think the mushroom slices would have even made up a whole mushroom. When asked for ketchup, about a teaspoonful was presented to me in a tiny little dish. It definitely wasn't Heinz!!! Tastes of Eden (what a misnomer that is) is obviously trying to make a profit by providing cheap products and frugal portions. I won't go back if I ever pass through appleby again. Avoid, avoid.
