A quick visit for breakfast. All food was tasty and well presented. Coffee was very good. We were surprised that Warburtons bread was used for the toast instead of the bread sold in the shop area. We bought some of the delicious cakes and scones to take home too. Recommended.

It is many years since we visited this cafe and we were delighted that the standards had been maintained. The coffee was strong and delicious. The morning rolls were reasonably priced came with a choice of fillings. The eggs were perfectly poached and the bacon and Cumberland sausage were of good quality. The cafe can be very busy and there is limited parking.

We chose this by a random Google search. Talk about a gem in disguise 😀😀 from the little shop, to the lush chocolates and into the cafe. The food was well made, well presented and reasonably priced. I had the fish goujon sarnie, my friend had the homemade quiche both were full of flavour. There is even a selection off gluten free and vegan cakes, now these had to be tried 😁😁😁 The best part about this little gem was the atmosphere the staff created from the moment you walked in. You were made to feel welcome and at home, well worth the drive. We will definitely be there again

Drove out to Melmerby specifically to give this place a try but it really wasn’t worth the effort. Has the feel of a mid-market garden centre catering for OAPs- all plastic tables, laminated menus and overpriced household gifts. Food was average, drinks ok, service a bit meh, particularly from the bearded guy with limited communication skills. First impressions count and based on this one, I wouldn’t hurry back.

For me poor. Tables not very clean dirt under the glass tops hair and all sorts there which was offputting. GF option soup and sandwich, bread dry curled at edges, Marie Rose sauce and prawn, sauce was watery not pleasant. Happens all too often in many places. Tea not terribly hot. Rest of party food was okish standard fare.

The food was 'fine' however PAYING for it was a different matter. If you have a £50 note forget it. The conversation: We don't accept £50 notes because we have been had before! i asked if they have a machine, that checks for counterfeit notes, and she said - yes, but it's broken, the light has gone, so you obviously do take them! But not from two elderly people, who's faces don't fit?? Either you do or you don't - get your story correct. This is my 40th year coming to this part of the world and each year, i visit your bakery. Sadly i won't be coming again. Such a shame because Barbra in Hollibery's (the upstairs shop) does take £50 and i spend quite a bit with her.

At £10+ we received one 5" curl of thin Cumberland sausage, two decent sized thick rashers of bacon, baked beans, half fried tomato, fresh fried mushrooms, a slice of black pudding, one hash brown, and the choice of either a poached or a fried egg on a slice of white toast. Tea or coffee is extra. We enjoyed our food and the quality was good. The eggs were cooked well and the meats were of a good standard. The closed cup mushrooms were quartered and fried (butter?) with a fresh flavour. One odd thing was the use of a bog standard 'white sliced' processed bread for the toast under the egg. Odd when they sell all sorts of lovely artisan bread at their 'bakery' and their other meal options featuring anything with toast did in fact list 'artisan' bread. We thought that £10+ was a little expensive without including a choice of tea or coffee for the price. The staff are friendly and everywhere clean with good toilets.

A bucket list sort of adventure, and overall, it was worth it just for the experience of dining on a train. Waitstaff throughout were outstanding. Meals were okay with pluses being the roll, salmon entree, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, and dessert. Chicken was a bit dry in the piccata, and the stuffed mushroom appetizer and salad were a disappointment. Though I would not want to be the one cooking a variety of courses for a train load of people.
