Called for Sunday lunch. Starter homemade pate was excellent so thought rest would be as good. Ordered 1 x Salmon fillet whi h my wife enjoyed. I had beef rib with veg and supposedly homemade Yorkshire pudding (Aunt Bessie's are far better!!!!)....Chef needs a lesson in making Yorkshire Puddings. Beef rib came which was 90% fat....a bit of beef with a thick fat centre.. ..inedible . They brought me out after a long wait another piece of beef, equally as bad. The cost for this piece of mainly inedible fat was £19 Ultimately bar redu Ed bill by cost of my main course.

A welcoming pub with excellent service. I enjoyed the lasagne with salad, coleslaw and garlic bread, and my partner enjoyed a rump steak, both were cooked well and piping hot. The young Irish man who served us was very professional throughout. Good prices too.

The George has recently been taken over by Neil & Angela. We had a family lunch there on Sunday and as we are locals we’re keen to see the changes. Whilst it undoubtedly needs some TLC and updating, hospitality goes a long way for way and this was most definitely on display. We were warmly greeted by Neil, a fire was blazing in the grate & candles were lit on a very cold & miserable afternoon. The Orton Scar cafe could take a lesson from them as the hospitality there is appalling! The food was freshly cooked, piping hot. The steak pie which I believe they source from the fantastic Dales Butcher in Kirkby Lonsdale was exceptional. One of us had it with mash and one with chips. The chips were very good. The beer was well kept. We enjoyed it very much and wish Neil & Angela great success.

Was really disappointed heard so much about this place and really wanted to take my family as we went out for a evening meal staff extremely rude there was this one nonprofessional lady called Amy that was very rude and very unprofessional. The rest of the staff looked like they just left school and was very shy to speak which is fine just when you’re asking questions questions you would like them to be answered Will not be visiting back very disappointed

Stayed here to break our journey from Central Scotland to the Peak District. Had a very pleasant chalet type room at the rear of the property with easy access. Enjoyed a drink and an evening meal in the bar with our wee dog. We both had the sirloin steak with was generous in proportion and quite tasty.Staff friendly as were the locals. Would definitely return.

This place is an absolute shambles, the boiler did not work leaving us without hot water and heating for the weekend, the place was filthy on arrival, all the crockery and pots and pans where dirty, When we told owner that the TV didn't work, he told us to buy one. I would not recommend this place until the owner has brought it up to standard. The advertised hot tub overlooks the neighbours house and gardens, and looks as if it was shoved in the only place it would fit.

A meal priced at £18+ worse than a Wetherspoons. Clearly end of service bodge job with both meals. When I asked the member of staff dealing with the issue if either meal would have looked the same if served at 5pm instead of post 7pm she said no. Full refund for food. Charged for drinks. When I left the table to return the empty glasses to the bar, it was blocked by a staff member who was clearly annoyed at us when we laid up and returned the glasses on the other side of the bar. Too late to get a meal somewhere else. Such a shame. I’ve been eating there for over 8 years
