Herdwick Inn in Eden

Came across this gem of a pub after attending the Marmalade Festival. As previous people have noted it serves food for longer than any others in the area ( from 12md to 9pm) Very friendly and welcoming hosts. We had drinks (hubby recommends the Lowes Water beer) we shared starters (haggis fritters and garlic mushrooms) both were delicious. Star attraction had to be the steak and ale pie we both had, was so full of meat it overflowed, was the tastiest pie either of us has had. We would very much recommend this pub to others.

Absolute lifesavers! Me and my Boyfriend decided to walk 2 miles from Whitbarrow Village for food and drinks at 7pm. The food was great, and the staff were extremely welcoming. We planned to get a taxi back, but couldn’t find a service in the area. The landlord, and bar staff were concerned about us taking back, and were quick to offer us a lift back to our accommodation. Couldn’t be more happy with the food, and service and even enjoyed a game of pool. Great staff and we are in debt for that lift.

This was our first visit since the new landlord took over. The young man serving was very pleasant and friendly. The food took a while to come, but we all agreed it was very good. My only critisicm is the landlord took no interest at all to my suprise! He ignored all customers, including what seemed to be locals, and was far more interested in his phone, and watching TV,in fact he didn't speak at all, even when we left and said goodnight!

Stopped in for supper as was staying in the area. Nice, warm, welcoming bar. Open fire. Friendly staff. Ordered the steak and ale pie. It was great. Would have ordered another if I'd had room. Can't ask for better than that. Fully recommend.

Very nice pub with an olde world atmosphere. nice log fire burning away made the place very warm and cosy. Steak pie was wonderful(not a bit of gristle anywhere). My wife had the cod and chips and she was very pleased. Tasty cold pint. Bliss!! What more could anyone want

My daughter and I was looking for a cosy pub for lunch. The website didn’t tell us much but we decided to go anyway. Was greeted by a very friendly member of staff, we ordered our drinks and started looking at the menu. She immediately said she would put the drinks on a tab for us. The menu had some lovely sounding local dishes on. I opted for game pie from the specials list. It was delicious and served with carrot and swede mash, lovely crunchy sugar snap peas , mash potatoes and gravy.

Visited for diner whilst staying nearby. The weather outside was dreadful but the inn was cozy with its log burner and welcoming staff. We both had a lovely meal and would definitely visit again when in the area

We visited for the first time on Saturday evening after waiting many months for the pub to reopen and we were not disappointed. It was lovely to see that the pub was full of diners as well as drinkers in the bar and it had a lovely friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We were seated in the main restaurant and we all ordered one of the selection of pies on the menu, including one for the Vegan member of of our party (who was also offered Vegan gravy as an option 👌🏻) The food did not disappoint- the portions were generous and you could tell the pies were freshly made to order. Clear plates all round and we each had a dessert which were also delicious 😋 As new residents in the village we are so pleased to have such a good local pub on our doorstep and we shall definitely be recommending the Herdwick Inn to our friends and family when staying at our cottage.

The Herdwick has just reopened with New Landlords and it is absolutely great. We have been in twice for Sunday lunch and both times have been very satisfied with the quality and quantity of the meals. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the chef is doing a fantastic job, and the Wainwrights Amber ale went down a treat. We both had Lamb dinners and they were cooked to perfection for us. its wonderful to have such a great pub in the village.

We were trying to find a pub near where we had walked and there are loads to choose from… This one swung it for us as they were dog friendly and when I called to ask, the gentleman who answered the phone was extremely friendly. The food is homemade and delicious, fairly priced and lots of choice. I had the ceasor salad and partner had the lasagne. Everything was clean. We didn’t wait too long for our food but long enough you know they aren’t just Wapping it in a microwave. A pub is a pub at the end of the day; it’s not fancy or modernly decorated just there to be a pit stop on our journey and we were nicely suprised at how lovely it was. My husband Brian & I called here today for lunch and although we had not booked we were given a very warm welcome indeed by first a lovely young lady at the bar and then from the new landlord and lady! The Herdwick Inn is spacious, very well appointed and is very well situated with great views tucked away in this cute village. We had a lovely lunch - steak pie & prawn salad both excellent in quality, portion and price - thanks to the Chef of the day Tiegan! The toilets are a delight - sadly in the UK this is one area of often poor standard - The Herdwick’s are immaculate and a credit to The Herdwick! Well done Tracy & Darren and here’s to a long and happy future at The Herdwick! We will be back🤗!!

Después de un largo día en Scafell con mis 2 hijos, queríamos algo de comida abundante y yo necesitaba una buena pinta de cerveza local. Este lugar no defraudó. Desde el momento en que llegamos allí, todo el personal fue muy amable, incluso el chef salió a hablar con nosotros y nos dio buenos consejos sobre cómo escalar Helvellyn. Mi hija de 7 años no quería salir del auto (estaba teniendo un momento). Le pedí algo de comida de todos modos y soy de la vieja escuela y pensé que eventualmente la comería, ¡incluso si hace frío y regresa al campamento! El personal se ofreció a ponerlo debajo de la placa calefactora y luego en una comida para llevar. Finalmente entró y se comió toda su comida. Tuve el pastel de bistec con cerveza y era justo lo que necesitaba. Delicioso y abundante. Realmente disfruté de la cerveza local de Penrith, solo podría tomar 1, pero ciertamente hubiera disfrutado muchas más si pudiera. Llegamos bastante tarde para cenar debido a que la subida a Scafell tomó mucho más tiempo de lo esperado. Creo que llegamos alrededor de las 8 ish, quizás más tarde, pero el personal estuvo más que feliz de acomodarnos y prepararnos comida sin restricciones a pesar de que era tarde. Había pautas de Covid implementadas y parecía que todo el equipo no podía hacer más por ti. No he puesto seguro para algunos de los datos adicionales ya que no presté atención a esos aspectos. Le dije que no era una joya escondida, pero sin duda es una joya en la calle principal de Penruddock.

We thought we'd try the Herdwick again after several years. It's a typical cosy Cumbrian pub with a small selection of hand-pulled beers to enjoy next to a blazing log-burner. Nos gusta comer fuera. Eso es cierto, pero esta fue toda la experiencia. Hemos seguido a este chef durante varios años y con los años viene la experiencia y una experiencia es lo que obtienes. Honestamente puedo decir que la comida de Herdwick no se puede combinar en ninguna parte del área. Es exactamente lo que esperaría ver en el menú de un pub, pero mucho más. Esta es nuestra primera vez en este pub desde que Chris comenzó a cocinar aquí. Tuve el cordero (hubiera sido grosero no hacerlo como estábamos en el Herdwick) - estaba muy bien cocinado, solo se derretía en la boca. Nuestros amigos tenían el plato de compartir carne. Lo disfrutaron porque es algo que no se ve en todas partes. Era un buen tamaño para dos. Supongo que si realmente tuvieras hambre o te apeteciera un desafío, podrías intentarlo por tu cuenta. Se veía genial también. Mi marido tenía pollo de la junta de especiales. Vino con unas patatas de Anna. Se veía tan sabroso. Él también guarda buena cerveza. También tienen un bar de ginebra que disfrutamos más tarde en la noche. Parece que el Herdwick está liderando el rebaño en este momento.

Brilliant village pub. Comfortable and clean and excellent food. They've even opened a small convenience shop within the pub. Fantastic customer service. We will definitely be back.
