Myself, my wife and our 14 year old son had dinner here in August 2020. We all had a starter and sirloin steak for our main. The food quality was outstanding, as good as the likes of Miller and Carter. Plenty of choice of sides, the onion rings were really good - crispy and no grease. The atmosphere is relaxed and the restaurant is similar to what you would find in America. It is a “no frills” diner but I would recommend it without hesitation. They sell bottles of beer / lager and wine. No draught. Staff very friendly and prices are good.

Despite its unusual location behind a filling station the food in this place is amazing. Almost like being in America. The slow cooked ribs are mouthwatering. They cater for every taste...my daughter loved being treated to Nutella pancakes for lunch. I asked for salad instead of chips. It was gorgeous. Infused giant couscous with pickled cucumber. Very good value for money. I've been tempted to email them asking for the recipe for the ribs!

I couldn't finish the breakfast, they are quiet and the food had clearly been left out for a long time. Bacon was tough and far too salty, the sausages were poor quality. Cranstons next door do an excellent breakfast in the cafe and their hot food counter is also top notch.

Stayed at the north lakes hotel Penrith and couldn’t get a reservation at the restaurant. Was prepared to walk 20 mins into the town to find food then discovered this gem of a restaurant. It’s beside a petrol station just off M6 . Food was excellent. Real burgers or steaks ( they even do hog roasts) The staff were very friendly and food and wine very reasonably priced . We will definitely be back

Come on, sort these toilets out. They’ve been a disgrace for years now. They only seem to have the ladies working right. FOOD. I noticed now smaller plates, less food, same prices, less choice.

Have eaten here befoe and the food was great and plentiful. Sadly I cant say the same today. Hubby had a breakfast which was good. I had the steak pie. The pie and carrots were great but the chips were awful. The meal was cold and although the staff happily put it in the microwave and offered me a free drink. The reheating didnt improve the chips. Also we were plagued by flies whilst we were teying to eat. The cafe has a 5 star food hygeine rating which sadley does not extend to the toilets qhich were a disgrace. The mens was out of order, thr handle to the disabled toilets was broken and the ladies toilet is one of the worst I have been in and should be condened! The seat was filthy and broken the towel holder was broken the whole place needs a deep clean and is a hazard to health. Hate to leave a bad review as genuinely liked this place on previous visits but you need to get these things sorted. Sadly I wont be coming back.

We went here for dinner as a family with young children. It's a strange building. There's a petrol station in front of it and from the outside it looks like the restaurant is the petrol station shop. Inside there are western style swing doors which were a lot of fun and it has been fitted with american style booths. The tables are wipe clean formica style and effort has been put into adding steakhouse style decor but it still has the feeling of a 70/80's style office building which I suspect it might have been before. The service was slow.

We finally got a chance to go for an evening meal in the Rooster Grill yesterday and we were well impressed. There has been a need for a restaurant in Penrith that supplies well cooked steaks at a reasonable price for some time and now we have it. My 8 oz sirloin was beautifully cooked, served and presented well and tasted wonderful. The onion rings were divine and the chips good too. My only complaint is that I was so full I didn't have room for a dessert. The bill was also a lot less that a lot of other restaurants in the area would charge and I thought it was excellent value.

Our party of four were fortunate to be a part of the trial run night here at the revamped Rooster Grill. We were greeted by a pleasant member of staff who showed us to our table and promptly took our drinks order. The menu is varied and lists a large selection of starters, grills and desserts. We ordered a selection of the starters and shared them amongst the party. The corn fritters were excellent and the brisket burnt bits salad was to die for.The mains were equally as good with a range of steaks, burgers, fish, chicken and vegetarian options. You can choose to have the ready cut steaks or go to the meat display and have the size cut for you. The choice of rubs, marinades and sauces to accompany your meal is extensive.Grills are cooked on a state of the art Mexican Grill which is part of the front of house servery, so you can see your meal being prepared. The main courses were of the highest standard with the steaks being of excellent quality.Well done Keith, Frank and the team you have created a quality, informal but professional eatery which all our party feel sure will become a major player in the Penrith food scene.

We popped into Rooster's on the basis of other reviews but we were slightly disappointed with our drinks, service and the toilets. Roosters reminded us an old-fashioned work's canteen or school dining hall where you queue with a tray to order food and/or drink; and at lunchtime the food is being kept warm under a hot lamp / plate. We ordered cappuccinos which were reasonably priced, however, they were also pretty tasteless and appeared to be severely lacking in both caffeine and coffee. We had to go searching for sugar and there was only white available in a large canister near the tills. On reflection, we perhaps should have just ordered a pot of tea. The staff weren't the friendliest and the ladies toilet had no loo roll. There's so much competition in that area that we doubt we'll return.

This was my first time visiting Rooster Cafe & probably my last if I could avoid it.From outside, the cafe looked pleasant, friendly & comfortable which I wouldn't complain about, the inside was much the same.As we (4 people) had been travelling a while we all needed to go to the toilet. Despite there being a mens toilet, a womens toilet & a disabled toilet, we could only find 1 roll of paper in the womens. Apart from that, they were fairly clean. When we walked in we found a table easy enough & decided to go up & order our brunch. It was a bit of an odd arrangement...reminded me a lot like school where you pick a tray & all line up to choose rather than a cafe environment where someone comes to take your order. Thank god it was fairly quiet otherwise we would have had to stand up eating after loosing our table.I was stood at the counter waiting for one of the ladies to turn around & serve me. She said something (still turned away) & I could only presume that she was talking to another person stood next to her...but no, she turned around & said loudly "talk to meeee!". How was I supposed to know that she was talking to me? Firstly she wasn't even facing me & secondly, I couldn't hear what she said. I found her attitude to be unreasonable & very rude - I wouldn't have dared asked for toilet paper or my missing toast!!I chose the 6 item breakfast & asked for beans, toast, hash brown, sausage & 2 black pudding. I was given beans, 2 hash browns (despite only asking for 1), a sausage, no toast & 2 black puddings. The plate was then passed from the food counter to the till which it allowed it to sit there & cool until it was my turn to pay.The food quality was fairly ok, but I wouldn't rave about it as it was cold & missing items but it filled a hole I guess...One of my friends wanted vinegar on their food but decided to give it a miss after looking at the bottle. It was half-full of what I could only describe as dark brown dirty dish water with a skin on the top & bits floating in it...it was VILE to say the least!!I worked in a cafe for 2 years & I don't see any excuses for cold food, disgusting vinegar or the staffs attitude.I'd recommend furture visitors to go in with an open mind & no good expectations!

The Rooster is a good wholesome family cafe. The steak pie is the best steak pie you will ever have! They do very good lasagne. Fish and home cut chips on a Friday. The milky coffee is wonderful and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. There is a carvery on Sunday lunch times with a selection of meat, yorkshire puddings, veg and gravy. Quite a plate full! I am a regular customer here and also worked at weekends for a while behind the counter. It is a local family business. There are lots of visitors to the lake district and regulars, families, bikers and local business people. The seating is like an american diner style which is open yet private!I would recommend anyone stop off and have a lunch, snach or all day breakfast.

Staff very welcoming into the pub. We sat in the lounge bar and had food and drink. Had the Sweet Potato Curry which was on the specials menu. Quick service and the food was really good and great portion size!

Stayed here to break our journey from Central Scotland to the Peak District. Had a very pleasant chalet type room at the rear of the property with easy access. Enjoyed a drink and an evening meal in the bar with our wee dog. We both had the sirloin steak with was generous in proportion and quite tasty.Staff friendly as were the locals. Would definitely return.

We met family for lunch a half way meet up to celebrate my son’s 18th birthday. We were very well looked after and all the food was lovely. Thank you so much for chilling the champagne for arrival, we will be back.

We dined in Bustro 1871 as part of a short break holiday at the Appleby Manor Hotel. What a lovely break this was. Our first after the Spring and Summer lockdown. The food was really good and the waiters attentive. Appleby Manor itself is a delightful hotel full of old world charm. We are returning there again for my wife's birthday in October. I shall again dine in Bistro 1871 as well as sampling the gourmet restaurant at the hotel on our second night.
