Fish and chips bootiful. Curry sauce however had a very odd taste and very runny like water.

We struggled to find this place as it is basically just a doorway but it was worth the trouble. Food was excellent, service great. We will definitely return. Winter set menu delicious!

This is the best Chinese cuisine I have ever tasted. Freshly cooked food - our favorite. No other Chinese takeaway compares. I would recommend having a takeaway rather than sitting in.

Because one of us is disabled , we could not go up the steep steps to the main restaurant, so had to eat downstairs , which was very tacky. Not clean and raggy curtain. Food was ok, but service was not always good.

The set meal was great value and very good. We sat downstairs and it was a bit cold there, could not go upstairs due to companion's mobility issues.

Located inside an old building which has got lots of charm! Clean place! The gentleman who served was very pleasant. The joy and sour soup tasted more sweet and sour. The vegetable lettuce wrap was tasty. Egg fried rice was just fine. The chilli garlic dish of main was just fine as the sauce tasted sweet chilli for me. Vegetable chowmein was just ok ; less vegetables. All in all a charming place with ok food. But extremely great value for money and a clean place.

Ordered quarter of duck, when we got home it was lamb. No issue, I took it back and the lady was so rude, she said that I agreed when ordered? I never, and asked for my money back. The lady was reluctant to give me it back. Never have I ever been spoken to in that way. Very dissatisfying

We had a takeaway. Waited less than 10 minutes. It was very hot and tasty. Can't fault it and very reasonably priced too.

We both very disappointed with the service from this restaurant. Treated like we hindered there restaurant that was basically lacking customers and it was obviously known why. The food in some dishes very nice but why over the top red food colouring is totally not wanted and just cosmetic adding zero flavour. Again disappointed and will never step foot in this place again.

We ended up delayed with BA and didn't get to Penrith till 9pm, this restaurant was really accommodating we had tried a couple of other places that said there kitchens were closed. I'm gluten and diary free as well and they could accommodate my allergies would definitely recommend this place!

Lovely little place. Lovely service. The wonton soup was delicious as was the salt and pepper chicken. My husband had the chicken with cashew nuts. It was delish. Lots of nice fresh veg too. Will definitely come back next time we’re in the area.

This place is filthy , the toilets were disgusting . Good was ok but put me off eating in a place so dirty , carpet was awfully filthy . Never again will I go here

Food is one of the best in Penrith, but the service is terrible, left standing for a very long time after the stated 30mins your given to collect food. Unpleasant and manner-less staff

Great takeaway, good value and very tasty

Unfortunately, I cannot knock the food, only highly recommend it to all in terms of taste and quantity, we have enough for two days. I had the Chicken Curry with Egg Fried Rice, finally a place that makes chicken curry that actually has a curry taste (last 2 places, a sauce with heat added, but no curry taste). NOW TO THE BAD PART: We ordered Take Out, and I am used to giving numbers which eradicates mistakes, but the local girl (not oriental) was either having a bad night, or comes with attitude. When trying to give my order it was met with 'well that's no good to me' (with attitude), £57.90 order nearly walked out the door if not for a oriental member of staff intervening, especially at the point of being unable to use a calculator to work out the cost of my order, the oriental woman took the calculator off her and in less than 10 seconds, was spot on with order total, the girl had created the atmosphere with her attitude, which was clearly there also with the oriental woman towards her with the calculator issue, (best thing for the business, get rid of the girl). Food is 5 Star (taste) Service 4 Star (saved by oriental member of staff) Atmosphere 1 Star (due to attitude of local girl) Highly recommend food to all, be aware main dishes come in larger foil containers than rice dishes.

This place can offer authentic Chinese food, as well as Chinese food for foreigners, if you know what I mean. I asked the attendant what was good that day. She entered the kitchen and came out with a few dishes. And they were very good.

We went for the second part of our walking holiday. Was given a room in the annex it was like a box, small window, no chairs, felt small an enclosed. Food OK, wouldn't book this again.

We as a family of three, have had our 1st and last meal in Courtyard, chicken and sweet corn soup, chicken fried rice, curry sauce, portion of chips, portion of egg fried rice with chicken chilli and garlic, was actually a breaded chicken fillet, sliced, with chilli and garlic sauce poured over with a dollop of carrots and onions on top,!!!! Oh and 2 pints of coke and a1/2 pint came to £44!!! Could have made better and home !!! Never again

Rang and placed order at 6.30 last night and given 40 minute collection time, No problem. Arrived to collect at 7.10 as told. Preceded to wait Another 50 minutes!!! People came and went after us, 3 other orders came down in one go 1-2 bags per person. Asked twice where our order was. An hour and a half after ordering, I complained to owner about the extended wait only to be told ‘large order’ (was not that large a came in 2 bags) When I asked for small monetary refund in compensation, told NO and offered 2 cans of coke instead!! What is that for 3 couples?? We didn’t have far to go before eating and Half the food was Luke warm, the starters were over done and a couple of the dishes very salty. POOR EFFORT, only good point was girl on reception was polite.

Decided to try this place again after a somewhat disappointing first visit about 18 months ago to find that nothing has changed. We were originally seated on the first floor but requested to move to the ground floor as it was stifling hot as there is no air-conditioning or windows that open. We found the food was ok but the portion were small, especially the starters from the set menu. The service was slow and we had to ask for everything. The wine and lager were not great either.

This place is a joke the portions are tiny … they must rely on trade they don’t know to take the piss out of them … why do this to the centre parks people…. When u could make a fortune

Seen a review on trip advisor saying it was a hidden gem, I can assure you it is! The staff were lovely, very welcoming and dealt with an awkward table of people very professionally amongst a very busy restaurant. The food was amazing, a bit more expensive than takeaway bit presented beautiful and tasted amazing. We sat downstairs as the upstairs was fully booked and although it didn't really bother us there was a cold draft everytime some one opened the door to collect their takeaway which could be avoided with a sliding partition perhaps . Would highly recommend I'd you're in Penrith for a night or few days

After studying many reviews for Chinese takeaway we decided on the courtyard penrith, and from ordering to eating our food we weren't disappointed, the lovely young lady front of house was so friendly and chatty, our order took around 15 mins a short drive back to our accommodation, and served out the food , large portions, piping hot and one of the best Chinese takeaways we've had, will not hesitate to return next time we down this way, keep up the good work.... a worthy five stars.....

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! DO NOT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS! HONESTLY THINK IT'S THE BEST CHINESE WE HAVE EVER HAD, THE YOUNG GIRL TAKING ORDERS WAS SO SO NICE AND FRIENDLY! WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK IF IN THIS AREA AGAIN.

Without a doubt, the very best Chinese food in Penrith. Sometimes, there's a wait, but that's because it's cooked to order fresh, and it's so popular with those in town who know.

If I Had to choose one last meal on this Earth it would be the Sweet & Sour King Prawns from The Courtyard. Always my FAVOURITE no other comes close! Our usual favourites are the Satay, Chow Mein, Crispy Shredded Beef (sweet sauce) The fried rice is also lovely very clean looking rather than brown. Can’t fault it.

Enjoyed the food and service was good. Nice little restaurant. One thing to avoid on the menus would be soft drinks. £5 for half a pint of diet coke 😬

The food is so good. So so good. The king prawn sweet and sour was amazing. Duck and pancakes delicious and chicken noodles very good. Wasn’t too salty either. Highly recommend for the good food. Thank you.

Amazing food, just how we like it

Cannot believe anyone has a bad word to say about this place. As a foodie and a little bit too concerned with reviews, I almost didn't visit but a friend persuaded us otherwise. All I can say is this is a true example of not letting other peoples opinions affect what you think. Service -top notch, young man dressed in a shirt and tie with excellent manners. So welcoming and the food was absolutely excellent. We sampled the duck, dim sung, sweetcorn soup, seaweed, sweet and sour prawn, the salt and pepper chips were excellent. Can't recommended enough!

We were stopping in Penrith for the weekend and went out on Sunday night to find a restaurant everywhere was full but we came across the courtyard Chinese restaurant some bad reviews on TripAdvisor so we were a bit worried, but we need not have been. The Decor Was basic but the food was delicious so pleased we found this Restaurant

Ordered and Paid £50 for a takeaway that should have been £40 an hour in advance to ensure order would be ready on time… it wasn’t ready and was told 10 minutes later they would be starting to prepare it shortly! Got my money back and left. The Courtyard has a reputation for your order being late which is a real shame.

HIDDEN GEM!! We nearly over looked this place! But we are so glad we came in… This is a big statement but its been the nicest Chinese food I have ever had!! Everything was so fresh! An clean I will literally drive up from Manchester just for this food!!! Really impressed!

Thought it would be a nice treat after the cinema, how wrong. Firstly we had asked to be sat upstairs when I reserved the table as downstairs gets cold. However the only table available was downstairs. Eventually we were given the menu and ordered food and drinks. After ordering the food we were asked to pay for the whole meal before the drinks arrived. When the starters did arrive I had to ask for plates, cutlery and napkins. The starters were cleared away and we ordered more drinks, which had to be paid for straight away. It took 45 minutes for the main course to arrive. When it did one meal was incorrect. Throughout the meal people were stood next to the table we were dining on waiting for take aways and I’m not talking one or two people. The takeaway clients were complaining about the wait time . The door to the establishment kept getting left open, so it was freezing cold, it wasn’t a relaxing meal at all. The waiting staff didn’t smile and weren’t really interested if you enjoyed your meal. Do yourself a favour a go somewhere else if your after a relaxing meal.

Booked for 8 people, arrived at 8.15pm (as requested by courtyard when i phoned to make a booking) Had to ask for another chair as only 7 at table 15 mins later Had to ask for menu as still not been given any Staff finally...

Any one that has been to this restaurant and said it was lovely is telling lies. We arrive, placed our order then had to pay before we received our drinks and food. We waited for about 20 minutes for our first course. We had to find our own cutlery and napkins. We were with friends and they received their main course before we had our 2nd course which left us eating our main course on our own

This is a very nice centrally located Chinese restaurant, they offer both take-away and dine in services. The seating area is on the smaller side but that didn't make it any less enjoyable. The staff were incredibly friendly and we were well taken of. At first I thought that prices were higher than normal. However, given the size of the portions the price was very reasonable. If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy an evening meal after a day of visiting the Lake District this would not go amiss!

Environment a bit shabby Very cold I wouldn’t recommend going in winter, and as I didn’t see any aircon it may be to the other extreme in the summer. As it was cold and no plate warmers on table the dishes got cold very quickly....

We visited this restaurant following recommendation. This was a family celebration. We were sitting up stairs which was absolutely freezing had to sit with our jackets on to keep warm. We received our starters relatively quickly but waited a further hour and 15 mins waiting...

Best Chinese in town. It's tucked away in a cosy alley and staff are super friendly. There is always a queue, shows how good the food is, and portions are just enough. If ever wanting a Chinese in penrith, I 1000% recommend

The food is good - when it arrives. We waited a full 80 minutes before finally being told that one of our starters was off. They did however comp us one of the starters that did arrive, so all is forgiven :)

Blummin lovely takeaway but the waiting times are ridiculous! 2 hrs after we ordered we got our food! We were told it would be ready in an hour but we waited outside under the umbrella for another hour in the rain!!!!! It was lush when we did get it but the que was insane!

We have never been to the Courtyard for many years, so we had a trip out on Sunday 7.00 pm. First of all the place is a dump, upstairs is a bare, sterile room, with absolutely no atmosphere at all. No music, certainly no Chinese-ness....

Lovely little restaurant - hard to find - tucked away with little or no signage, but well worth the search! Mostly set menus, which suited our small appetites and each course well timed and delicious. If ever in Penrith again, we would return here.

No tenía por qué preocuparme, el pedido por teléfono llegó a la hora acordada, el pago sin contacto recogió la comida y me fui. A pesar de las calles desiertas, la comida para llevar en The Courtyard estaba llena. Sin embargo, no sorprende que sea una comida excelente, siempre ha sido servida por un personal alegre y amable. Teníamos carne en salsa de frijoles negros y jengibre especial de la casa y cebolletas con arroz frito. Fantástico, qué delicia después de estar aislado en casa durante semanas. Me alegro de haberlo hecho y volveremos. Gracias

Comida encantadora Teníamos pato con panqueques para comenzar y la porción era realmente buena. Para platos principales, pollo agridulce y pollo con sal y pimienta, ambos encantadores. La camarera fue atento y agradable. Nos sentamos arriba, que era un espacio agradable, abajo no era tan acogedor.
