Had some friends over so ordered the set meal. There was far more food than we expected but very good value for money and good quality.

Great Chinese Takeaway. We ordered food for 4 of us and it was delivered to Center Parcs Security Lodge. Brilliant service. Tasty food and big portions. Great find.

Ordered a take away to be delivered to Whinfell forest Centre Parcs, was phoned with an update when it was on its way, met the driver at the security lodge, nice friendly driver. Food was lovely, really liked the chef special main and rice in 1 tub. If we come back, would order again, better than the take aways inside Centre Parcs!

When we order, we get the munchie box. Not because we like it, because it’s normally the only thing that’s properly cooked. However, we ordered one yesterday and the chicken was severely undercooked. To the point where me and my partner are now throwing up. Not only that, they had the cheek to cancel our order and keep the money we had paid for it. I’m waiting on hearing back about a refund as it’s getting beyond a joke now. I don’t recommend this Chinese at all!

Very tasty food and excellent service.

We ordered a succulent Chinese meal from this place and it did not disappoint. Superb taste, lovely variety of food. Could not fault anything. Delivery time was spot on and everything was hot and ready to eat. A great place.

ordered food on their website, got their door was closed , sign said closes at 22-00, this was 22-05, got home i had a menu at home it says open to 22-30, so i rang them, they said they were in the back but were still open , and said that was a old sign on the door, i live 10 miles away so didn,t want to go back, the order was for £15 they offered a £7 credit note, i won,t use them again

Very busy which,in my opinion, testifies to the excellent food. Best to book ahead to save waiting.

Just had the worst lemon chicken and chips ever. It didn't taste of lemon . Very little sauce ,chips were over done . This place used to be good but will not order again .

The worst Chinese takeaway I have ever had... Currently on a little getaway with my wife, and we have been craving a Chinese for ages. We got our normal like we do back at home, crispy beef in Cantonese with chips, sweet sour chicken Hong Kong style, 2 portion chips, and 1/4 duck. Everything was tasteless and absolutely vile. The best thing in the meal was the cucumber sticks that came with the duck. You know its bad when I had to drink my tap water for a taste of something nice. Absolutely fuming £36 down the drain. I very very rarely leave reviews, but this was such an awful takeaway, I feel the need to vent my frustration. Would rate this 0 stars if I could

We ordered a takeaway online, delivery said 45 minutes, it took 1 hour 45 minutes and an extra phone call to check where it was before we received it. It was all over cooked and dry. Even the chips were rock hard and the egg fried rice was dry. The salt and pepper box was awful, the ‘chicken’ was actually chicken wings - this should be specified. ‘Chicken’ is taken to be chicken breast fillet or atleast meat - not wings that are just skin and bones. The chicken satay did have chicken breast but the sauce was sloppy and tasteless, it was bitter, nit like a rich satay sauce. The takeaway cost £50 for 4 people, it was a holiday treat and we threw most if it away. Very disappointing.

Takeaway only but I had Kung Po chicken which was one of the best I’ve ever had. Really huge portion. My husband had the special curry which he said was very good, had plenty of large prawns and tender meat and lots of mushrooms. We never eat Chinese chips so shared a portion of soft noodles with bean sprouts which were also delicious. Very reasonable price at £18

The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially since we had a peanut allergy. The food was excellent and to top it off you got really big portions. Would 100% recommend!

We have used this takeaway a few times since moving here, tonight i ordered Vegetable chow mien and a chicken in teriyaki sauce which was absolutely unedible, the chicken was like sponge and the sauce overwhelmingly sweet and full of sugar. The veg chow mien wasn't so bad but totally ruined and by the sauce of the chicken dish. A waste of £16 and it went straight in the bin. I also noticed the doors leading to the kitchen were absolutely filthy. Disappointing as thought we'd found somewhere reasonably decent close to us.

We have just had the best special fried rice, it was amazing, delivered exactly on time, and so very tasty, definitely will order again x

10/10, best Chinese in town. Will always be my go to Chinese and overall takeaway. Staff are very friendly and helpful, always go the extra mile. Highly recommended!

Not what it used to be. Double happiness box, salt and pepper chips, chicken is covered in salt, sugar and msg. Not bell peppers, onions etc.

Good food prices have gone up If you phone an order and told a time to collect, expect to wait at least an extra half hour

So so bad. Got a happy box, chicken curry, chicken balls, chips and rice. Sounded amazing but when we got it, I was coated in salt, every single item was covered in salt, I like salt but it was like they have tipped a hole pot over the take away. Had to put the whole take away in the bin £36 down the drain. Please looks at standards

Got a Chinese delivered tonight couldn’t eat it never seen so much virtually raw huge chunks of onion in one box completely overwhelmed everything else even worse than last time when I got chunks of pineapple in my Thai green curry, shouldn’t have given it another chance

We visited penrith and chose this takeaway shop for our evening meal the food was ok not very accepting of individuals with hidden disabilities 2 of our party have autism and also to say the least no freebies usually after spending £20 you would qualify for free prawn crackers we spent near £90 and still no free prawn crackers would probably not visit again if in the area would opt to go elsewhere

Always good food and quickly served

The special fried rice was one of the worst things I’ve ever tasted managed a few mouth fills and in the bin it went. The curry sauce had jelly in it and my spring rolls was freezing cold in the middle. I realised after I left the shop they hadn’t give me my change so it cost me £20 just to make my experience that little bit more shocking. Thank god I was only in Penrith for work so I won’t have to go near this place again 🤢

Golden boat takeaway is a delicious chinese takeaway. Their website is laid out so that you can order your food online, then collect or get it delivered. I adore their salt and pepper chicken, and their chow meins. If you fancy a chinese and are in the area, give them a try. Only downside is that when ordering for a family, the food prices really add up.

Ordered for 6 people and it was delivered to Centre Parcs within an hour. The food came piping hot and it was amazing. Great service for anyone staying in Centre Parcs Penrith. As a regular visitor to Centre Parcs, we Will definitely use the Golden Boat in future.

I always come to Golden Boat when I fancy a Chinese- best food in Penrith and you can never go wrong by ordering from here. Their delivery is always on time, the portions are amazing and the staff working here are always so friendly.

What a waste of 16 pounds.. rice was overcooked. The crispy beef was far from crispy.. and the sauce tasted nothing like ku poo garbage it went in the bin . Never again .. silver ocean in penrith never fails to impress

First time back after lockdown and the food was superb as always, absolutely wonderful and we’ll be back again ASAP . The staff was nice and food were amazing.

I’m absolutely gutted that this Chinese (once my favourite) has gone sooooo down hill!! I used to order from here regularly maybe 2yrs ago.. I stopped going as it didn’t live up to previous expectations. This evening I decided to take a chance on them again after over a year. Unfortunately it was a huge waste of money. Most of it ended up in the bin! Salt & pepper chicken looked anaemic. I was so scared of getting food poisoning that I actually cooked it for another 10mins when I got home. I don’t know what type of chicken they are substituting with but it’s cheap and nasty!! It looked translucent in parts and just tasted so rubbery and squidgy, it’s a real shame as they used to use better quality ingredients. These days they are bulking the portions out with loads of onion and carrots! The chips are soooo crisp with oil that you can’t even taste the potato in them. The shredded beef tasted like cardboard, you definitely wouldn’t be able to guess what type of meat it was suppose to be. You don’t even get complimentary prawn crackers anymore. I hate to complain on local businesses but if they want to survive then they need to go back to how they did things a couple of years ago! First and foremost you HAVE to use better quality meat. We won’t be trying out this Chinese again; or at least until we start hearing good reviews.

Processed ham in cut chunks. I got two pieces of chicken and the noodles were vial!!We disposed of three large containers of this disgusting dish in the bin!! There is no description on the ingredients on the menu. We are a Jewish family and of course ham and pork is not an option.When I called to complain the only answer I got was “but you ordered Thai chow mein… it’s not our fault.Let me tell you, even no Jewish people wouldn’t have eaten this dish. It looked disgusting and the noodles looked like they have come from a tin. We paid £68.00 for a takeaway and over £30.00 of it is in the waste bin.What an absolute disgrace and the complaint fell on deaf ears!! They don’t care what religion you are or how offensive their meal is.. as long as they have your money in their bank account they don’t give a damn!!Give this place a wide berth. Rather eat you own face than the rubbish this joke of a restaurant serve. They may be rated 4 stars but they only have 40 reviews and I would suggest none of them ordered the disastrous selection we did.I have had chowmein from scores of restaurants and this is the worst I’ve ever had and I would bet my life on it, the worst I ever will have. FOOD POISONING!! Avoid at all costs!Arrived to our campsite 15 min drive away from the restaurant and he asked for £10 delivery fee which no one told us about over the phone! We are just the combination starter and as soon as we finished both me and my boyfriend were vomiting. Had awful food poisoning all evening! Someone else also told us they had a bad experience there too! Horrible

Excellent customer service! We had phoned another Chinese takeaway in Penrith and their attitude was appalling. When we phoned the Golden Boat, they were extremely helpful and very customer focused. The food was also excellent. If you want a Chinese takeaway these really are the all round best Chinese takeaway in Penrith!

Meal for two was worth every penny, super stuffed and still loads left over tasted amazing thank you. Delivery driver was very friendly :)

We were staying in Penrith in a hotel recently. As the country was still in lockdown we were relying on takeaways for food. We tried this place as it had good reviews. But frankly we were disappointed. They clearly follow the practice of bulking out the food with large pieces of onion in place of other more expensive ingredients. Good Chinese food doesn't rely on that much onion. Two main courses were indistinguishable and covered in a sweet gloopy sauce. The chow mein was stodgy and oddly bland. Not somewhere we'd go back to.

A really great Chinese. First one we've found that doesn't make us feel funny the next day. Good food, good portions, fair price.

Salt & pepper chips & chicken come as just plain chips & chicken covered in a ton of salt. All food we ordered was pretty flavourless & very overpriced for what you got. Disgusting. Waited 2 hours for a delivery. Only to be called saying they had ran out off egg fried rice. Customer service was horrible. Multiple phone calls enquiring as to my order status. A complete waste of time. I had to cancel my order, then they offered me £7 off to complete my order. By this stage it was 2.5 hours since I placed my order . Avoid this place unless you want your order delivered in time for breakfast.

Fantastic food, never had a bad one and good value. The only negative would be the time you wait, even if ordered for a time.

Since moving to penrith over a year ago this is my go to chinese! Always delicious, never any problems with the order. The satay and cantonese sauce are superb!Only loose a star because if I wanted delivery to my village is it £8 with a £25 min spend so I need to plan my cravings in advance!

Took my order and payment on foodhub then rang to say it's too far away (I live 10 mins away). Refund takes 3 to 5 days. Total con!!! Shouldn't accept order if don't deliver

Loved my food, can't fault the service.

Me and my partner travelled 160 miles from home and decided to have chinese before going home. I love food, i certainly love Chinese and im not dissapointed with this store. The portions - oh myyyyyy, perfect for someone who wants to go full out, i definitely will have a good leftover breakfast tomorrow haha. Chicken balls may have been a little on the small side to what im used to but the taste made up for it. If we travel through or to Penrith again we will sure come back. The staff was super lovely.

Not a bad Chinese. Staff are lovely. There was quite a wait on the food (we collected) but the staff were very apologetic. The meals were ok. Chicken spring rolls and salt and pepper wings were amazing. Chilli and garlic was rather tasteless and we asked for salt and pepper chips but got plain which after a 30 minute wait was very frustrating. Would return again though

Muy mala calidad, las zanahorias utilizadas en la comida tenían trozos marrones en los extremos. . ¿No puedes usar zanahorias frescas?Sin duda la comida china para llevar de peor calidad que hemos tenido. La mayor parte se fue a la basura.

I ordered a chicken chow mein from this place and it tasted like a roast dinner, instead of soya source it seemed like gravy. We had broccoli and carrots in the chow mein too just a bit weird. I’ll give it to them tho the salt and pepper chicken was pretty nice and the portions were massive but I would of rather had a very tiny portion of the ‘chow mein’ or nout /:

One extreme to the other, one dish overly salty even for a salty option, others blander than shop bought baby food. Sweet and sour chicken that tasted like mush. All in all a great disappointment. Returned the whole lot.

Haven't been to the golden boat for quite a while but whilst our local was closed in Appleby decided to give it a try again. All excellent with and excellent golden boat starters and LOTS of food. Intact had we known that we were going to get this much food we wouldn't have ordered mains. For what we managed to eat of the mains all was good but not sure I like the idea of the rice/chips been included in the price as we could quite easily have had one portion of rice less. Maybe 1 rice and one chips is the way to go if 2 of you are eating.

Han pasado varias veces desde que se mudaron a la zona. La comida siempre lograba mantenerse muy caliente durante 15 minutos en coche. Buena comida y servicio siempre es bastante bueno. He sido otros 2 chinos en Penrith, este es el único al que volvería también!

Telephoned from Temple Sowerby, 6 miles out of town centre, to double check if delivery available. On hold for some time but was then advised it was available. Studied menu for 5 mins before calling back to place order only to be told no delivery to Temple Sowerby available. Then on questioning this, conversation had by staff who then said it was available and there would be a £10 delivery charge!!! How can that cost be justified? Very disappointed at mixed messages and extortionate delivery charges...didn't place order.

We went to eat here while staying in the area and planned our meal online. We added up the prices off the menu and went to buy the food. We left having received what we believed to be £10 too less change, so we rang up when we got home and asked about this problem. It turns out their online menu is 5 years out of date and the prices are wrong and much higher in reality- we payed £10 more for 5 meals than we expected. We were very disappointed. The food was good and we enjoyed our meal, but it was very disappointing that the menu was so out of date.

Ordered 3 different dishes. The quality of the food was very good. We waited about 30 minutes for the takeaway which was very long.

Found this little place after a long day walking the mountains and after reading the reviews thought we would give it a try. Very friendly and helpful on the telephone. The portions are massive, and taste lovely, couldn’t finish it all as the pots were generally really big. Will definitely visit again when we visit the Lake District

Great takeaway service. Twelve of us were staying at two adjoining lodges at Center Parks. We considered the on-site Chinese menu at £17 a head, but instead ordered from the Golden Boat. They telephoned to say when they were leaving and we met them at the gate for Center Parks and paid for the meals. The food was delicious, the order spot on, and we saved a huge amount on the on-site menu prices.

Really disappointing, everything very salty the seaweed extremely so! Worst still no one who had chicken ate it they all said it tasted as if it had been boiled and was chewy. Shall not be returning .

Only giving 1 star as I had no option to give none, I ordered half a duck with pancakes which when I got home it turned out to be half a ducks carcass with no meat on what so ever. I phoned the take away back and the reply I got was "our supplier sent bad ducks so this is what we have to serve" never been so disgusted, I'd of posted a picture of this if the option was avaliable

Great takeaway! The Golden Boat combination starter box is great balue for money and all the food is always beautifully cooked. We wouldn't order chinese food from anywhere else. Highly recommended.

Prices on web site out of date. Also no longer delivers. Please note - only takes cash (no problem if forewarned). Nicely cooked although one order not quite what I ordered but was acceptable anyway. No longer such good value.

Ordered with friends the first time. Was peng. Ordered solo the 2nd time, was even penger. Hopefully it will be peng x3 next time

Great Chinese with huge portions, cash only!

We found the Golden Boat via trip advisor, took a chance on the 10 mile each way journey, and were overwhelmed.

I had one of the best Chinese meals I've had since I left Hong Kong from the Golden Boat on the 10/8/17, they were a little late as I ordered it for a 7pm collection, and it wasn't ready till 7.18 but to be honest when we started eating we couldn't have cared less, fantastic food, highly recommend :)
