We met at the Bridge for a family reunion with cousins from Ireland. The menu was more extensive than I remembered and satisfied a wide range of tastes from the traditional farmer to the aspiring artist to the teenage student. We’ll definitely be back.

We stopped at The Bridge on our way up to Keswick as we have before, and it makes a lovely start to our holiday. The food was excellent, and the pub is lovely inside. The menu has a good selection from sandwiches and burgers up to full 3 course meals, the only thing missing is there is very little veggie or vegan choice. But apart from that it’s fantastic!

I never usually trust reviews that say good food, good service and reasonably priced but this place was all of these. Served by a lady who appeared to be the manageress who was very attentive. Small touches really but appreciated all the same. It is a busy restaurant and doesn't have the space for people standing around so I would book in future. We got the last table by luck.

We were staying in Temple Sowerby and this was definitely worth the five minute drive. The food was excellent, as with the wine very reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and efficient.

Arrived in the hopes of buying a hot drink and a cake or pastry as we'd eaten a large breakfast and weren't hungry only to be told "we don't serve unless you are eating due to lack of staff" go down the road and they'll serve you. We then asked politely if we could please use the toilet as we'd driven down from the Cairngorms only to be told "no they're for customers only". It was clearly the manageress making these decisions. Won't be knocking on that inhospitable door ever again!!

We were caught in terrible traffic and popped in as a family with two young children who were desperate for the toilet. We wanted to get some refreshments also but the stuck up woman who came to the door refused to serve us and didn’t even allow the desperate children to use the toilet! Utter snob of the decade! Won’t ever stop by there again. There is bad attitude but this was utter snobbery.

We stopped in Kirkby Thore at the Bridge on a long drive from Scotland to Nottingham for a late lunch. The restaurant was inviting and the menu looked great. Our kids enjoyed pasta and haddock & chips, generously portioned and complete with small sides. My wife had the haddock sandwich and chips. I had the club sandwich, which was gourmet—thick cut bread nicely toasted with bacon and chicken, spinach and onion, finished with a perfectly cooked egg. Side salad was a perfect accomplishment. The service was attentive, and the food is moderately priced. Would definitely return!

The Food is simply outstanding. I drove past this place travelling back to Scotland from Yorkshire and I’m so glad I did. It’s worth finding and also travelling to as it will be a great meal for you if you do. The menu has something for everyone. It has a separate menu for burger but the main menu has classic like fish and chips but also duck, lamb and beef dishes. I had the shredded lamb with dauphinois potatoes and broccoli and a jug of gravy. It was delicious and one of the best meals I have had for a long time. My partner had one of the burgers and said it was one of the best he’s tasted. The place is modern but relaxed and you could come here just for a drink not just to eat. The dessert menu looked really good but we didn’t have the time to sample it. The Eton Mess sounded good. There’s an ample car park and it’s literally on the A66 around ten minutes from the M6 north. I can only say go in and sample the food as it was so good I’ll have to think of a reason to go back now !

This was the first time we’ve made it here for an evening meal while driving up & down between Sheffield and the Lakes, though we’ve been here a couple of times for a swift lunch while en route - and it does great food. Jenny really loved her duck breast with pistachio mash and tender stem broccoli. I wasn’t so sure about the one vegetarian main but opted to have two starters together as a main which worked really well - wild mushroom fricassee on a toasted brioche, plus a rich and creamy cheese soufflé. We were both very happy, the service was quick and friendly, the ambience and decor tasteful, and the prices very reasonable. Nothing to fault, and we hope to have a chance to come back. A great little place.

While on a massive charity walk from York to Glasgow in the aim to raise funds for our Veterans at Erskine I stopped off at The Bridge. It was approximately 18degrees outside with no clouds in the sky on Mother's Sunday. I walked in and explained what I was doing and if I could shelter in the pub from the sun and heat for 10-15mins, as I was already sunburnt, and to fill up my water bottle and get a glass of water as I was walking from Stainmore to Penrith along the A66 that day. I was told they were fully booked and it was for paying customers only. I then asked for a pint of Cola and to fill up my water etc just so I could be out the sun for a few minutes. The manager told me to leave... twice. At no point was I ever rude or abrupt I was simply seeking shelter and asking for water. It is safe to say that with morals and standards that this pub has I will strongly encourage anyone to boycott - more interested in money than the welfare of another human being. I got water from a neighboring house and I made it to Glasgow, thank you for turning your back on me.

This is a nice venue and very welcoming staff who made our visit but unfortunately the food let the whole evening down,my wife had the beef which was well presented but was tough and tasteless which was a real disappointment and she left most of it and to cap it off I had picked the fish and chips and was presented with fish and fries!!!!again very disappointing from the meals point of view,,,

I'm local to this eatery and I can honestly say, in my opinion it's the best place to eat. Fabulous menu and everything cooked to order. Covid aware and the place is spotless. Come on - give it a go if you are in the area, you won't be disappointed. Check the website as it isn't open every day

Having passed this place many times and thought it looked inviting we finally stopped last Sunday. We just wanted a light snack but the menu was not very appealing in this way so we opted for a bowl of “spiced pumpkin soup with artisan bread”....

Stayed here to break our journey from Central Scotland to the Peak District. Had a very pleasant chalet type room at the rear of the property with easy access. Enjoyed a drink and an evening meal in the bar with our wee dog. We both had the sirloin steak with was generous in proportion and quite tasty.Staff friendly as were the locals. Would definitely return.

We dined in Bustro 1871 as part of a short break holiday at the Appleby Manor Hotel. What a lovely break this was. Our first after the Spring and Summer lockdown. The food was really good and the waiters attentive. Appleby Manor itself is a delightful hotel full of old world charm. We are returning there again for my wife's birthday in October. I shall again dine in Bistro 1871 as well as sampling the gourmet restaurant at the hotel on our second night.
