I first saw someone post about staying here on Instagram, and booked it for a romantic break with my Husband.
We only live 30 mins away, but why not, eh?!
We decided to push the boat out and stayed in the most expensive room - Picpoul. It had a separate seating area, along with a bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower up a short flight of stairs. The room was quirky and the bath was just devine! The only gripe was with the toilet which wasn’t very private - the way that the door is means that you can hear everything - perhaps not for new couples on their first break! It’d also have been good to have a mini fridge with milk for coffee and to store our drinks in.
Nothing too much trouble and you can order stuff from the pub downstairs, which can just be added to your bill. The stay also includes a cooked breakfast, which was amazing!
We ate in the pub too - absolutely loved it, very quirky and atmospheric. The ‘special’ lamb in a wild garlic veloute with potato rosti was honestly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Sticky toffee pudding crème brûlée also fab! Friendly waitress who made some recommendations on the wine and we had a giggle with.
Popped over the road for a couple of drinks at the Bulls Head, which was a lovely pub too.
Can’t wait to come back!

We had a fantastic meal here. The burger was delicious, obviously flame grilled and good quality. Fish and chips, crunchy, not greasy. Order at the bar and they bring to the table. Very accommodating, friendly staff, we will definitely return.
We visited The Castle Inn soon after new management had talen over. What a great job they have done. The menu is brilliant. What a fantastic choice of dishes. The chefs certainly know what they are doing! The service was great. Nothing too much trouble. We will be back soon.
Please, please put more bar staff being the bar. One person working the bar upstairs on nye is crazy. I've been in before and downstairs you'll have like 2 people on the bar on a weekend, 3 if we're lucky and even then it's not enough. Seen more bar staff working a dead night in a pub.
Arrived, booked, early on a Saturday evening and were promptly seated and efficiently provided with menus. Drinks came and we ordered our main meals, scampi and jerk chicken.
This is where it went wrong.
No more than 10 minutes later the food arrived! We both knew this was not freshly cooked food.
The scampi was presented ok (but then how could you not?) but 'a large'..? Questionable.
The chicken however had been piled on the plate with the chips, swimming in its sauce, and a 'rubberised' 1/2 corn on the cob.
One mouthful was enough. Microwaved chicken of questionable date is not very pleasant no matter the strength of the coating.
The lovely young lady serving recognised something was amiss and offered an alternative. When I said no, the other equally pleasant server lady suggested two free desserts. These were also refused.
Yes, the chicken was comped, but...
... and the lady taking payment was lacking customer service skills.
Shame.
Could be nice, but it isn't.
Amazing Sunday Lunch All meats cooked perfectly well presented lovely taste. Very friendly welcoming service, facilities immaculate 5 star we will be back!! Thanks
Lovely restaurant with well cooked and presented imaginative food. We had the 5 course tasting menu. The amuse boche was a fried quails leg and wild garlic - totally delicious. This was followed by an unbelievable cauliflower veloute. The trout was delicious and the guinea fowl with terrine was fantastic as was the bisque that accompanied the pollock.
Fantastic menu at a very reasonable price
