We ate here during our recent stay at TRL and, of all the places we ate, this is the one I know I would return to - I just wished we lived locally! I had a delicious steak and mushroom pie with mash and veg, as did most of us. My husband lucked into a beautifully cooked fish and chips - the one I 'pinched' tasted delicious! I'm so glad we (just about) left room for the apple and berry crumble which was equally delicious. And all topped off by excellent service from our two young servers.

Recently had a family meal at The Red Lion, which was excellent. The atmosphere in the pub was good and the staff were very attentive. The fish and chip were to 'die for' and I couldn't believe the size of the haddock! We would have no hesitation in recommending the pub and will be returning soon for their curry night!

We walked in to the red lion without a reservation but were soon sorted with a table with no fuss, with the choice of the restaurant or the bar. Ben quickly sorted our drinks & delivered them with menus. Lots of tasty options - we went for the chicken goujons to start, steak pie & curry of the day (chicken madras) for main & a sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All of the food came promptly, and was very hot and tasted delicious. The whole menu is great value for money, especially the curry that came with chips, rice, naan & poppadom. Lovely food, great service, warm welcome & would highly recommend. They also have a b&b upstairs, as well as a bar area with all the sports. Thank you to Kirsty & the team.

Called in for a birthday tea. Ordered a curry and a chicken in creamy tarragon sauce. The curry was tasty enough but nothing special. It came with a tiny portion of rice and few chips. Also a small nan bread. No chutney, poppadoms or salad so a very basic meal. The chicken dish looked well presented and was cooked OK. However the sauce was bland with no flavour of tarragon or garlic. Again dissapointing. Chocolate fudge cake had clearly been microwaved and the custard that we asked was lumpy. The beer was good but at almost £5 a pint it should be. The service considering it was very quiet was slow. In all we were dissapointed and will not visit again.

Went to the Red Lion on bank holiday Monday with family for tea. We had to wait ages for the waitress and for our starters. I had garlic mushrooms, which were tasty but very poorly presented. Mains was scampi, which wasn't particularly good either. It wasn't golden to look at and the breadcrumbs and scampi had mostly parted company. There was a tiny spoonful of peas. The tartare sauce was good though. Maybe all this is because it was the last day of eat out to help out. So. In summary, we are not going back.

We had our 2 year old toddler so needed a high chair which was thouroghly cleaned down with anti bac spray by the owner before used which made me feel instantly at ease. However on entering the pub at 1.05pm we are brusquely told 'we need the tables back at 1.30pm, we've got a funeral'. It was obvious that we weren't wanted as they were preparing for 2pm. So we left, along with 8 others who had arrived at the same time. No thanks, we won't bother again. Today my Husband and I went for lunch as tomorrow is his birthday so a special occasion. We were greeted very well and shown to our table. Our drinks arrived with a jug of water. We ordered starters and main meals. We waited a short while for starters and again waited for mains. Both our starters and mains were very good. We decided to have a dessert we waited a long time before we got the menu and even a longer time before someone took our order. After waiting even longer still I asked the waitress how much longer we would have to wait strangely she went to the kitchen and within minutes the puddings arrived she said they were hot so be careful mine was not hot just aired and the crumble on top was burnt. The waitress offered us complimentary tea or coffee for our wait we declined. I left most of my pudding it was not worth the wait. My Husband said his was hot and he eat the majority of his. When the bill arrived the puddings were not included on it. I went to the bar to pay the waitress told me she had not charged for puddings for our wait. We were disappointed as the meal was for my Husband's birthday and it was spoilt by poor service. A 3 course meal should not take 2 HOURS.

What arrived was an on-the-bone portion of the whole shoulder at least 5cm thick - succulent, falling off the bone and full of taste. The following evening I opted for Gammon Steak which was also very good. Had a lunch today, most friendly efficient service. Food was cooked to perfection, fresh veg was the tastiest we’ve had anywhere. Had three meals and not a morsel left on any plate. Needless to say we couldn’t manage a dessert. Well done to everyone. Will definitely be back soon. Excellent value.

Visited for the first time for a meal with family. Had a lovely meal, food really tasty, good size portions, food arrived hot, service was excellent, staff and management really friendly and helpful. Restaurant was full but didn't have to wait long for courses to be served. Was recommended The Red Lion by a restaurant website and we were really glad we tried it out. Will definitely be visiting again and would happily recommend to friends and family.

I am currently working in the area so been looking for a place to eat and relax in the evening. I have to say the atmosphere was so lovely and welcoming. The food was lovely and there is a wide variety of drinks on tap.

Myself and a colleague stayed at the Red Lion for a business trip this week and it proved to be a great choice. We were greeted by a friendly lady behind the bar who checked us in and then poured us both a pint of tasty golden ale while we dropped our bags in our rooms. You don't get that treatment every day!

The food yesterday at Sunday lunch cannot be faulted (main and puddings for 5 people and we were all very impressed). Lovely environment. Mains came fairly quickly but we waited ages to order pudding and eventually asked the server if we could. He said yes and then proceeded to go to two other tables and take their orders before coming to us! We ordered coffees at the same time (hoping they’d come with the desserts). Puddings came about 15 mins after ordering but no coffees. After finishing puddings, we can cancelled coffees as we didn’t want to wait any longer. Would recommend highly to anyone wanting a long, leisurely lunch with excellent food.

Had a reunion with friends here this week, 40 years on, and owners very accommodating and didn’t rush us, and in fact we spent 4 hours there! The food was excellent and the menu was very varied, two menus to choose from plus specials of the day. Everything homemade. Monday’s clearly very quiet (shame for the owners) but suited us very well, like meeting in our own dining room! I picked the Red Lion due to tripadvisor reviews and was not disappointed. Try it yourself you won’t be either and plenty of parking in a delightful village.

Booked late for a family Sunday dinner on Mothering Sunday, but Kirsty (the landlady) managed to squeeze us in, despite being fully-booked. Five of us had the set 2/3 course menu, which seemed to cater for all tastes. Starters were ordered of home made soup and pate and they arrived promptly and were delicious, The mains we ordered consisted of beef or lamb and the portions were excellent (plenty of meat) and well presented. Nothing was too much trouble for the waitresses who were polite and friendly, and extra condiments were delivered quickly with an extra jug of gravy - which was fantastic!! Only three of us ordered sweets as the other two in the party were fit to burst!! The cheese cake and the apple crumbles were perfect to round off a great meal. Will be definitely going again. Superb!!!

Four of us ate here on a Sunday in February. We booked the table in advance as we had read that it could get quite busy and this proved so.The food was very nice. We each chose to have the 2 courses - mains and deserts. It was a very enjoyable meal and we would visit again. My only gripe was that the service was very slow but worth waiting for.

We found this pub by chance really on a Saturday afternoon. The staff were really friendly, we were welcomed in by a busy barmaid upon arrival which is always nice and service throughout was fantastic. The food was homemade and delicious, and the menu had a lot of choices so I’d imagine something for everyone. This place was a really good find and we'll definatley be back

Fabulous Christmas meal with a large group of friends. The food was excellent and Kirsty was an amazing host, making our whole evening very enjoyable. We used to regularly walk to Miola for a coffee and can’t believe how it has changed. Outside is a complete dump with tatty pieces of furniture up for sale at ridiculous prices . The elephant and giraffe which have been there for years are still for sale at a ridiculous price. Toilet was filthy with no toilet paper. Chose to sit outside as had children with us and tables were tatty and dirty. The food was overpriced and mediocre. Bacon sandwich with virtually no bacon. Peanut butter on toast which was slimy and greasy. Children took one look and didn’t touch it and can’t say I blamed them. It is so sad as Miola used to be such a lovely place to go to. Can only assume that with Holmes Chapel closing its on the cards that Sandbach will close as well. So disappointing and what a waste of money !
