We were a walking group of 16, we pre-ordered our lunches. The staff were fantastic, drinks ordered and delivered swiftly, food started to arrive less than 10 minutes of walking through the door. All piping hot and tasty. Overall a very good experience

What a great find, went for a walk from here to Luds church and back. Staff where very welcoming, friendly and easy to chat to. We had the pie of the day Steak and Ale and it was a proper pie, good amount of filling and plenty of meat, the whole dish was finished by both of us. My wife had the crumble and I had the treacle tart, and the tart was the best I have had in a long time it was delicious. We are still talking about the food and we have been home three hours. Well worth a visit and we are planning a return visit. Well done to all the staff, top notch.

Lovely pub and great service. Burgers & fries and fish and chips were excellent. But 2 off us had the fish finger sandwich and chips. Lovely chips, crispy batter over flaky white fish and unique home made tartar sauce were all fantastic but the meal was completely ruined by the use of cheap supermarket white bread. Hardly any cost or effort required to rectify this by using some bloomer bread.

This Is the first time we have visited the ship at wincle. Took our friend out for the afternoon as she had recommended here . Initially we were going to go for a walk in the area which is idyllic for Any one wanting to view the stunning scenery! Altho we chose not to do so due to weather turning cold ! So we just opted for a catch up and a social at the Ship . We are tbh quite expectant when eating out ! Quality of food for us is extremely important and we don't like to feel dissapointed as I'm sure would be the case for most ! Well what can I say ... after speaking to the delightful Landlady Christine that I would be back and that I would even be bringing my dad ! As he is Jamaican and I couldn't believe that I was fortunate to choose jerk chicken from the menu , I was able to have rice & chips , homemade slaw & corn on the cob! My husband & friend both chose different dishes which in agreement enjoyed theirs just as much as mine . Chris all I can say your food , attentiveness, prices for the quality and quantity are second to none ! We look forward to seeing you and your lovely staff again in the near future ! Thankyou for a lovely afternoon 💕

Characterful pub in a beautiful location, perfect after a walk in the Peak District. Beer is well kept cask although a little dull (JWLees) compared to the great local brewery 100m down the road 😋 However, the food we ate was underwhelming. Overpriced at £15 for sausage and mash or pie and chips given the latter didn't come with vegetables apart from literally a tablespoon of pureed peas!

Was very disappointing. Ordered an aubergine and sweet potato curry and what they brought had 1 piece of aubergine and 2 pieces of sweet potato and mostly Chickpeas. When they asked if everything was okay I said it wasn't the curry I expected and the young boy that brought it even described it as tagine which I highlighted to the waitress. She promptly responded saying she definitely ordered that for me. They didn't offer to check or correct it. When it came time to pay we were again asked if everything was okay. I again mentioned that it wasn't nice and that it lacked the ingredients described and still they did nothing. Needless to say we won't be going back.

The beer, food and ambience were all lovely. Unfortunately our meal was marred by very friendly, but totally incompetent service. When we arrived we were shown to our (pre booked) table, and warned there might be a wait for the food as they were very busy, and the waitress took our drinks order. Forty-five minutes later, we still had no drinks. We enquired of the waitress, who first told us again that the food would be delayed, then asked if we would like MORE drinks, and seemed to have difficulty understanding that we had had not yet had ANY drinks, despite standing right next to our, completely drinkless, table. In the meanwhile, the table of twelve next to us, who had arrived after us, were being served their second round. We eventually got drinks, and placed our orders. One person at the table ordered something from the barbecue. Fortunately they weren't very hungry, as their main course never arrived. After a lot of apologies from the waiting staff for the delay in bringing our drinks, and the failure to pass on the order for the barbecue item, we placed our order for puddings. When they were served, one person's pudding was missing. We did get a decent sum knocked off the bill, but we would have preferred to have had efficient service in the first place. The very young waiting staff were charming and friendly, but the management need to rethink their systems and/or their staff training.

Fish and Chips excellent as always. However the Beef and Guiness Pie @ £14.50 was a very big dissapointment, the meat needed a little more cooking and there wasn't enough of it and the large amount pastry was too hard.Love coming here but need to improve the pies, more meat (tender) and less pastry.A further issue please move the dog biscuits, a local was in with his dog sat by the biscuits, whining all the time.

We were there the same day, I think, as the reviewer who said ‘will not return’ and felt the need to add some balance. We arrived and were shown to our outside table which was great as it was a lovely day. The reduced menu had been advertised on social media and the website. The outdoor BBQ menu had some great items on it but it was sold as the items advertised, and chips were extra which needed ordering. We had some chicken wings from the BBQ to start which were brilliant - nicely cooked with a bit of BBQ charring but sticky sauce too. Fortunately the Sunday Roast was on a specials menu. We both had it and, whilst the chips looked amazing on other meals, we were pleased with the roast. Meat cooked medium rare, good veg and a separate gravy boat each. Dessert was a shared Eton Mess which was delicious - one of the best we’ve had. We will definitely be back as this is our favourite place and are so pleased to see it still going after such difficult times. Oh and the staff were all lovely too!

Stopped here for food after a wonderful day and I was so disappointed it's unreal. Absolutely ripped us off... £80+ for 5 of us, had bbq food from the outside bar, chips and a drink. The food was substandard, nothing exciting, and you order a burger and that's it a burger nothing else on a plate My son ordered chicken wings, had to wait for a long time after the burger and hot dogs came and they were not cooked. I returned them and the young lad came over who cooked them to inform me they are cooked! After showing him the blood in the meat he proceeded to Tell me he used a probe and it was to temp so its cooked..... Unbelievable.I requested a different meal as a replacement for my son Needless to say. When I asked for the bill it not only had the wings on there, it also has a few added extras for good measure. Luckily I spotted this and refused to pay for food we did not order and pointed out I was not paying for the wings either! All in all I was annoyed with the final bill, annoyed with the service, the wait time to get the attention of any members of staff, annoyed the food wasn't tasty for the prices. I wish I had something good to say but unfortunately i don't. Bad experience overall. Such a shame

An experience of extremes in the meal left a disappointment overall for a pricy meal. Excellent mushroom starters and desserts. The pan fried seabass dish was amazing. However the Sunday roast was mostly inedible. The vegetarian roast part was ok but the potatoes and parsnips were too hard and dry to cut . The carrots and cabbage were from school dinners and the chips with the fish were dried out and not like the far freshly done chips other tables were getting. We left all of them. The Yorkshire puddings were undercooked and tiny.Service was slow but very friendly. So some excellent and perfect dishes but the things that should have been easy were really not fit to serve. Out with friends so didn’t make a fuss!

A great country pub with restaurant standard food in a relaxing Peak District setting. First visit there and will 100% be back with friends and family. The Salmon deserves a special mention, and Satay chicken, chips, salad, and desert also very nice. A chef cooking food to order on a charcoal bbq in the beer garden was a nice touch! A minor point for improvement would be the burger - no doubt they use very good quality meat and are trying to being generous by giving such a thick patty and piece of bacon (almost gammon), both were a bit too thick to be enjoyed as a burger, and the bun was a little bit 'bready' and fell apart. Service was excellent. Not cheap but not overly expensive either, & definitely reasonable for the quality & location.Cant wait to come back & also pay a visit to the brewery down the road!

It was a massive relief to reach this attractive pub having walked all the way from the other end of the Roaches – about 7 km. We didn’t have time for a roast so opted for soup and a beer. The beer was delicious, the soup was fabulous – Cheshire cheese flavoured – but, oh, what a disappointing amount of crusty bread! And of course, that’s the thing that sticks in the mind after the visit. I mean, bread – even nice bread – isn’t that pricey, so why they couldn’t provide more than just a tiny end of a breadstick is completely baffling to me, and I hope, if the proprietors read this, they will learn from it.

After a day walking in Derbyshire we called at the Ship for a meal on our way home. Food was served from 6pm & we arrived around that time. I ordered steak & ale pie & chips. Whilst waiting for my food I began to feel rather poorly. The food arrived but I couldn't face eating it & asked if I could have a glass of water. I then sat outside & after 15mins or so I began to feel a bit better. So I started to eat my meal. Sadly, I thought the presentation was poor. I had been told beforehand that they couldn't find any chips, then they did. The pie was just about edible - it did contain meat. The mushy peas were far too solid & the chips were horrid. Even if I hadn't felt poorly I would not have enjoyed this plate of food. Hopefully this was a one off because I know the pub is popular & the staff are very welcoming & maybe we just arrived too early, but I'm not sure we will eat there in future

Called in for a late lunch as they serve food all day on a Saturday and they are dog friendly although we decided to leave our dogs in the car as we could see them from our table. A good choice of mainly standard pub food with some additional extras with the local smoked trout starter being delicious. We both had steaks to follow which were very tasty with the port and Stilton sauce adding an extra flavour to mine. Desserts were enjoyable although the Creme Brulee was a little small for £6.50. Service was excellent and we would recommend. The hanging baskets and gardens were very pretty,

Nipped in here towards the end of a long walk on a v hot day, the outside of the pub looks great in full bloom and really is a picture postcard view. Interior nice although we sat outside because of the heat. Lunch food was very good and nicely presented, the beer was well kept and very nice indeed. Beer garden out the back to the side of the pub but we sat directly outside the front. Would like to sample the evening menu for a proper taste. Service friendly and efficient.

My daughter, who,s local this is, had booked us in for Sun. lunch as a treat for my birthday . We were told a party of 16 had booked in before us, and accepted thebooking 30 min later.. We expected some delays, but, until 3pm The food when it finally arrived was at best MEDIOCRE. And to be served a Yorkshire Pudding the like of a mini Mount Etna was an insult to a Yorkshire family. Having eaten here previously with excellent food, I am disappointed to give this once immaculate service even one star.

Visited here a couple of Saturday's ago for a family meal for 10 people while on holiday. Food was lovely and service was quick. We said we would return again so went back on the Thursday evening. The meals took 50 minutes to come outvand wen they did everything had mushy peas on it despite ordering garden peas. Ham and eggs with mushy peas even the kids burger meal had mushy peas! There was 1 girl who was serving at the bar and bringing out meals, taking orders seating people, answering the phone and everything else all by herself. It was totally different to the meal we had a few days before. Shame as it seemed a nice place but very put off by second visit

I went after a long walk around the area and got a sunday roast, well what was meant to be a sunday roast was actually 2 roast potatoes a piece of meat and a Yorkshire pudding with some gravy that was so watery it just looked like dirty water.

Have been before, so lunchtime visit was overdue. In all honesty i wish i hadn't. I had the chicken and leek pie. Very hot but overcooked. My wife had the chicken skewer which was very bland and not cheap at £14.00. On the drinks front £3.15 for half a draft diet coke was way over the top. Felt sorry for the lad on the bar who was both serving behind the bar and serving food.

Visited The Ship Inn last Friday for dinner as a spur of the moment decision. We decided to sit at the comfortable high tables near the bar and ordered pork ribs (from the specials menu) and a crispy beef salad. The portions were generous and the food delicious. Would definitely recommend.

We are house-sitting in the area and have had lunch and dinner at the Ship. Both times the food was excellent and the staff helpful and friendly. There are also good alternatives on the menu if you are vegetarian or aiming to eat more healthily. The sweet potato fries are to die for! I wish I could do them as nice at home.

The village of Wincle is surrounded by excellent walking country on the Cheshire / Staffordshire border, and The Ship Inn provides a good focal point from which to start. Wincle Brewery is nearby, and there is also some on-road parking down the hill, near the Dane Bridge.

We loved our lunch, and the food was delicious, with tasty mushrooms in Stilton sauce for starters and fish stew for main for me, but drinks appeared on the bill which we had not had as they forgot to serve them, but added them anyway. Having said that, it was an oversight, rather than anything sinister, and the rest of the service was speedy. Perhaps they were training new staff, as three people brought us cutlery and condiments!

We booked late for Sunday lunch but they fitted us in at 3.30. The pub was very busy the staff were friendly and the drinks were reasonable priced. Three of us had roast sirloin beef which was cooked to perfection my only fault was mine wasn’t hot enough. They kindly let my granddaughter have a child’s toad in the hole which she really enjoyed. I would definitely go back again.

We were on holiday in the area, so stopped at this pub for an evening meal. We ordered two main courses, one pie and one ham. The pub started serving food at 6pm, we arrived at 6.30pm. On ordering the pie we were told it would be a 45 minute wait as it was being prepared and cooked fresh. It was indeed 45 minutes before the mains arrived, and although I was pleased to see homemade pastry around all sides/top of the pie, it was rather small. Mushy peas and chips came with it. I've never counted how many chips on my plate before, but as there were only 7 chips, I found myself disappointed and counting them! The ham main had more chips, although the ham was not particularly warm, which was disappointing.

The Yellow Broom is best described as a blend of pure elegance with a splash of sophistication. The setting is undeniably beautiful, complemented by a warm welcome from the staff, who are clearly well-trained in delivering exceptional silver service. The menu offers a well-balanced selection of cuisine, ensuring there's something to delight every palate. The presentation of the dishes was nothing short of exquisite, and the flavors were simply delightful. The staff were remarkably attentive without being intrusive, striking the perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism. The atmosphere and layout of the restaurant were both appealing and comfortable, enhancing the overall dining experience. The Yellow Broom is a truly first-class establishment that consistently maintains high standards. I highly recommend a visit—you will not be disappointed.

The lady who runs it was welcoming insightful and charming. She gets all her meat from the local butcher which is first class. She was passionate about food and her recommendations dovetailed beautifully. My sister ate the mushrooms on toast, which she gave me to try. The mushrooms were cooked to perfection and the sauce was a perfect blend of flavour and consistency. They were really good, the lady who sat next to us has been coming for years and also recommended them, it was easy to see why. I myself had the brie and bacon ciabatta with chutney. The chutney was cooked in a slightly curried sauce which was lovely. Although I would have liked a slightly sweeter sauce maybe blueberries to cut through the mild salt in the bacon and brie but it was excellent none the less. Three breakfasts and pot's of tea for £14 per person was incredible value. I finally remembered years ago taking my daughter here for her birthday lunch and she kept asking me to take her to the place with the train running overhead, I couldn't remember at the time but she'll be overjoyed to hear I've found it. Fantastico, grazie.
