The person serving me was nice, helpful, and informative. However, the bartender next to her seemed really annoyed/unresponsive due to something, and I unreasonably took that personally despite everyone else being nice to me. That lead to an undeniably odd review that I’ve since retracted as it misrepresented myself, and indeed the business. Gotta love the demon drink, right? Incidentally, the beer garden was limited to one table when I visited but that was nice enough on a dark winter’s night, and it had one of those outdoor electric heaters with a button that you could press to keep yourself warm. Much needed on that cold, bitter night

It was our first visit to The Crown, in Bollington, since a new team took over in December. The menu featured a five-bean chilli – but since I went in search of the perfect chilli – and in the process discovered Heston Blumenthal’s recipe – I’ve been consistently disappointed by restaurant offerings. So, as this was The Crown, not the Fat Duck – I decided to try the Jerk Chicken. I wasn’t expecting too much – I was wrong, boy was I wrong. Now any chef can chuck in the chillis to crank up the scovilles but without the right mix of spices and flavours you’re just heading for a blistered tongue and disappointed taste buds.To be very honest the jerk chicken was hot as Hades – and certainly not for the faint hearted – but the flavours were a revelation. Accompanied by some perfectly cooked wild rice I was almost in spice heaven. She who must be obeyed had the same – and was equally knocked out. Two of our friends shared a huge portion of spare ribs and a ‘hanging’ kebab – which turned out to be two kebabs suspended from a metal spike enabling the provided butter to drip from top to bottom. Our two other friends went for a beef lasagne and the five-bean chilli – which was pronounced ‘hot’!!!I said earlier that I was almost in heaven with my jerk chicken – almost, as the sauce, or if you’re posh jus, was just screaming out for some bread to soak it up.Thankfully a nod to the waitress and a request resulted in a plate of freshly-baked, lightly charred, french bread. Now I really was in heaven.Adding three beers, a couple of bottles of wine, a couple of additional glasses of wine and several fruit juice and sodas resulted in a bill for just shy of £130.00 – for six people. Will we be going back – like a shot – but be warned, the jerk chicken (and the chilli) isn’t for the timorous.

I just want to warn everyone considering eating here, stay far away from the toasties, paid £3 for a ham and cheese toastie and it was basically just bread. I have a picture of the 5 diced squares of ham that they graced me with but can’t upload on here. Would’ve complained but no one visible at the bar and I didnt want to interrupt the landlady who was sat down at a table eating a McDonald’s... At 7.15 i rang to say we would be 10 mins late as it was a 45min drive and there was a diversion. I was then told that the kitchen was now closed. I asked what this meant in terms of our table (i spoke to Alan both times) and he said there was no food available but we could still have a table. Now in over 25 years of booking a table at a pub and restaurant i have never booked a table (nor would anyone on a Sunday evening) to just sit there. Obviously i cancelled it - very disappointing. Stopped here for lunch on bank holiday Monday, completely unsure what to expect as although I live in Bollington, I have never been. Well, it was a nice surprise. The place is neatly refurbished and we received a friendly welcome. There is a good selection of beer on the bar and a few nice touches like a 'bring and borrow' bookshelf and local magazines/papers etc. They have been wise with the menu, in that it's not an enormous choice, but what they do, they do very well indeed. We had pizza and salad and it was all really delicious, very fresh, tasty and well presented, arrived promptly, and as we were sharing they brought plenty of spare plates and cutlery without us having to ask. It was also a bargain lunch, so we left very happy indeed.I like this much better than pubs that try and do a lot of complicated things on their menu, but then either take ages to prepare them, do them badly, or half the things are 'off' due to missing random items. This isn't like that at all. They have picked a formula that obviously works, and they deliver it with skill.Nicely done.

After visiting the pub a couple of times since moving to Bollington a few months ago I found the Thursday quiz night to be a good night out. A good quiz with plenty of people taking part. So, last night three of my friends visited me and I said we should go into the pub. When we went in I found that there was only one table free underneath the TV so sat myself down to secure it. There were no drinks, bags or coats on the table so I wasn't barging in on anyone.Anyway along came a couple of youths who said that the table was reserved (under age drinking by the way.) There was no reserved sign so I mentioned that this was a 'public' house and therefore I had every right to use the table. The next thing I know the landlady comes over and tells me to move. So whilst not happy about that I moved and stood by the bar. One of the youths then decided to make a smart alec comment that I verbally reacted to (yes, I shouldn't have.) The next thing I know we are asked to leave by the landlady and weren't even allowed to finish our drinks. Seems to be a very clicky pub where it's one rule for one and one rule for the other.

Beer was good, atmos. was good, but the pub a bit drab. However, that all changed a few years back. It's still a pub well worth visiting for a pint or two, but the decor is much improved and the pizzas are absolutely lovely. Much tastier & healthier than dominos or any other delivery pizza and really reasonably priced. We went there for lunch on a weekday. The pizzas were great, tasted freshly-made, and well worth the rather long wait. We had small children with us, and sat outside in the patio area, and therein lies the reason for three stars only: this area was, quite frankly, dirty, with litter/cigarette ends on the floor that looked as if it had been there quite a while. I realize that the mess will have been left by previous customers but honestly, could the management not take a broom to it more often? Also, one of the two cubicles in the ladies was missing a lock. Sloppy maintenance that lets down the chef and bar staff.

We booked The Crown for a family gathering over a lunchtime. The food was excellent, as was the choice of beers and spirits. Staff couldn't have been friendlier. Thoroughly recommended.

My wife and I stopped in for a drink and I decided on a panini to go with the pint of Doom Bar. Both pint and panini were very nice,as was the wife's Peroni, and the pub itself was great. Would definitely call in again.

Have eaten here a few times and really enjoyed food and service, pizza's and burgers are very good as is the breakfast. If your previous visit was before June 2014and you were put off by poor service would recommend you try again, new management have greatly improved both quality of food and level of service.

Small family local with a great chef and a good selection of beers, lager and ciders. The new team running it , Jo, Simon and family are delightful and nothing is too much trouble. A roaring fire is lit on cold days, and delicious hand made pizza is available if you want a change from the traditional pub menu.

Popped in on a Saturday lunchtime for a quick bit to eat. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the food was great. At lunch they offer pizzas and light bites. We had a pizza between myself and my daughter and my wife had the omelette and salad. The pizza was superb, very tasty, crust seemed hand made and probably cooked in a wood fired oven (I forgot to ask!). The omelette was definitely no 'light bite' it was large and very good. Because we are little pigs we also asked for a couple of bowls of fries on the side and the chef asked if she could do us a bowl for the table which we agreed to but even between three we had a job to consume the huge pile of superb skinny fries. All round great job! We even booked a table for Christmas Eve!

On Saturday for our daughters 7th birthday party we organised a treasure hunt in the area and arranged to end the party at The Crown for pizza and chips. Communication prior to Saturday with Simon and Jo was great, they were able to answer our enquires efficiently and offered advice on quantities to order etc. When we arrived at The Crown the staff were very welcoming and within 10 minutes of the children sitting down the food (which was pre-ordered) was served. It was superb and just what was needed by 10 hungry children and 3 hungry adults. As we have regularly eaten at The Crown we knew that we would be getting great service and great food .... the service we received on Saturday was outstanding.....the timings were perfect, the food outstanding (as always), the pub was clean and welcoming and the staff were very attentive. The Crown in Bollington is a great place and we always recommend it.

Had a super meal here with my husband & teenage sons. Can't grumble about the food or service, just the rather ignorant large table of drinkers next to us who not content with encroaching on our table managed to nudge the poor girl serving our drinks so that my son ended up wearing the coke he had ordered. No apologies whatsoever from the drinkers to my son or the poor waitress. Great food though & poor clientele should not put you off. We will be back!

The Yellow Broom is best described as a blend of pure elegance with a splash of sophistication. The setting is undeniably beautiful, complemented by a warm welcome from the staff, who are clearly well-trained in delivering exceptional silver service. The menu offers a well-balanced selection of cuisine, ensuring there's something to delight every palate. The presentation of the dishes was nothing short of exquisite, and the flavors were simply delightful. The staff were remarkably attentive without being intrusive, striking the perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism. The atmosphere and layout of the restaurant were both appealing and comfortable, enhancing the overall dining experience. The Yellow Broom is a truly first-class establishment that consistently maintains high standards. I highly recommend a visit—you will not be disappointed.

Really good, freshly-cooked pub food. Decent beers, friendly service and reasonable prices. Lovely old-school, generous puddings too. The menu choice is limited but if that ensures everything is fresh and of a high quality then that's fine by us. Had a great evening meal here with the family and would certainly visit again.
