I am sorry to say we were very disappointed with this meal. It was a special event for us and La Popotte offered quality dining - certainly based on the price. The menu is quite short which is often a good sign but as we couldn’t find anything special to choose we went for the tasting menu at £85 a head. This turned out to be a small portion of several of the larger dishes on the menu which were all OK but not special in any way. The largest course was a meat course - a Barnsley chop with some collapsing foam and a leaf of Swiss chard. Hardly tasting menu material. The ‘pre dessert’ was ice cream with a few chocolate drops on the top. The actual dessert was a cherry tart cut in half - if you had the main menu you got the whole tart with no trimmings - hardly fine dining. The meal lacked the subtlety and care that you would expect from a tasting menu. I confess to not complaining but who wants to make a fuss in a small restaurant? However after some thought I felt I should let others know that our experience was very disappointing. With two glasses of wine and a G&T the bill came to £235 for two people which would not be unreasonable for top quality food. I should add that the staff were very pleasant and attentive - the problem was in the kitchen.

We went for lunch and it was a new menu. The chicken thigh starter was subtly spiced, utterly delicious; the salmon was lovely but maybe a hint more mint in the sauce would have given it more flavour. The mains of guinea fowl were excellent, and certainly the equal of many Michelin one star restaurants. The Eton Mess was a good dessert but not particularly ambitious considering the obvious skill of the chef. Best lunch we have had for some time!

Birthday Treat Another enjoyable fine dining experience, this time seated in the garden with early evening sunshine. First class service all the way with smiling staff . Some super dishes on the A La Carte menu. The crayfish starter and smoked salmon were amazing. For mains we had pork chop and the duck. There’s a varied wine list with some real gems. The Violet Guillemard Hautes Cote de Beaune is our favourite. A lot of interest in the house chips from other reviewers. Not just any chip, these have a lengthy prep process involving layering that delivers an exceptional chip. Worth every penny! Looking forward to a return trip soon

The service was impeccable. The meal for me could have been better. I enjoy steak without much fat and not chewy. The flavour was lovely but not the texture. Veg was good. Would return but would choose a different meal.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch from the set menu here - piquant Pil Pil tiger prawns served with samphire, traditional Sunday roast with pork belly and all the trimmings and sea bream with sauce Duglere. Puddings were fresh and original fruit salad and creme brulee. All excellent and served on a verandah in the shady terrace. There's a real French feel about this restaurant, complemented by the food, and we felt it was fine value for three people. We'll certainly return!

Visited for Dinner on the Saturday before Christmas and had another truly fantastic meal at this beautiful restaurant. This is the second time we have visited since the new owners took over, and the food, wine and service has been excellent both times. The menu is very different from the previous owners, however different or not, it certainly ticks all the boxes for my wife and myself. I've also had a few business lunches here, and again they have been excellent. The pate is simply beautiful and yes i did get bread with it (it wasn't burnt either). If i hadn't received any bread, i would have simply asked, it's no biggy. The prices are very reasonable considering such beautiful surroundings and the high quality fresh produce which is cooked to a very high standard.

Visited this restaurant many times in the past. Always been delighted with the food and service. Today was our first visit with the new owners and the meal was very disappointing. Steak over cooked and very salty. My partners meal was not up to standard either and also very salty. We advised the owner that we were not happy with the food but not even an apology. We will not return or recommend.

We went for lunch on Saturday and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. It started with a lovely gin and tonic sat in front of the log burner, followed by a wonderful meal, my husband had the scallops followed by the Hereford Fillet of Beef which he said was one of the nicest steaks he had eaten and cooked to perfection, I had the crab followed by Sea bream, which again was beautifully cooked and delicious. Our family came for Sunday lunch, and had an amazing roast - certainly one of the best I have had. The service was high class, and we were looked after by the new owners. We have been here many times before and since the new owners took over we were keen to try their new menu, which is a breath of fresh air into this well established restaurant. We look forward to returning again soon!

Well I went to lunch I am sorry to say I was disappointed with the limited choice. I will return next month as I was told the lunch menu is to change on a monthly basis.

Visited for dinner on Friday 18th October with my wife. To start I had the home made terrine and my wife the salmon gravlax. For mains I had duck breast with pak choi and carrot puree, and my wife had cod with braised chicory. We shared a chocolate mousse with ginger biscuit for dessert. The new owners are lovely and food was amazing. Can't wait to try the rest of the new menu.

My wife and I have only ever been for Sunday lunch. This was our first time for an evening meal. We were made very welcome on arrival. My brother who is a frequent visitor knew most of the retained staff. The menu was limited with 4 starters, 3 mains (meat) and 3 (fish). All individual prices include 20% vat. Being a French restaurant the cuisine is different to what was produced by the previous owners. However, the food was exceptional, well prepared and presented. My brother and I had the Cote de boeuf for 2. (£70) and it was superb but not what we expected. Unfortunately I live over 300 miles away but I know my brother will return. Likewise we will return when I visit my brother again. If you are ever in the area this is a must place to visit and like us you will not be disappointed. I really hope the new owners have a successful time during their new business adventure.

Ate here for a birthday treat and it was just right for the occasion. A very good selection available on the menu, everything was cooked to perfection and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

My friend and I visited La Popote on recommendation. We were enchanted by the welcome, the gorgeous room and garden. The owners and the staff were warm and caring. The food is fabulous. Our visit was the first of many,we can't wait until the next. Thankyou all at La Popote.

I reserved a table for six plus baby Granddaughter for my husbands 65th Birthday today, Saturday 24th August. On arrival we received a very warm welcome from a pleasant young man at the Reception Desk. The Waitresses deserve a mention too - Excellent service!

El menú es amplio con un número tan tentadora de platos especiales resultando en poca necesidad de considerar incluso el menú! A pesar de ser regular, ir restaurante - ers que nunca había oído hablar de la Popote, así que cuando los suegros nos invitó a cenar allí, yo no tenía expectativas, lo cual hizo que la noche super teníamos allí incluso más de una delicia. Mi mujer es vegetariana y no había una gran opción para ella, pero no importó, ya que el gnocchi ella tenía para su plato principal era delicioso. Si vas por la opción auténticamente francesa (la mejillones eran deliciosos) o algo menos galés (el cordero era excelente), no te puedes equivocar. Sin duda volveremos, y pronto.

Hemos comido aquí en varias ocasiones, tanto en la noche y a la hora del almuerzo y nunca me ha decepcionado. El menú del almuerzo, ofrece una buena relación calidad-precio, también se puede pedir de la noche a la carta si lo prefiere. Nos pareció que la comida es de muy buena calidad aunque eso tiene rutas firmemente en los años setenta, pero en el buen sentido y no hay nada malo con los clásicos en nuestra vista. El tamaño de las porciones son buenas para entrantes y platos principales y los postres son generosas, particularmente la pavlova. El servicio es amable y eficiente, el personal muy atento. Mientras que esto puede ser considerado un poco caro, siempre nos hemos sentido que hemos tenido relación calidad-precio y como consecuencia he recomendado a mis amigos y familia y volveré. En un pequeño punto sería bueno tener por escrito las ofertas, ya que en general son muchas para elegir.
