The best restaurants in Forest Heath East of England

Absolutely awful experience. First (and probably last) time I'll ever visit Supposed to meet a colelague. Waited at front counter to be served. Manageress had her back to me for ages whilst chatting to a customer Eventually another server came forward Pretty busy but two tables free, one right by entrance and one by window. Asked if we could sit there Table was reserved for one hour hence so said we would vacate when the folks booking turned up. No not possible as computer couldn't handle table numbers. Siad I'm sure it would be fine Sat down and there was a little sign saying table booked from 1pm so please vacate 5 minutes beforehand. Thought to myself no issue then Then said Manageress turned up. Really rude and hostile from the get go. Leaned in, talked over me , stated she wouldn't serve me (twice). Talked over me, barked "listen" and when I said pardon then just proceeded to parrot her own take Having asked in the foyer to speak with the overall Manager, I was told there was actually another cafe area we could have gone to. The GM apologised although I still have the feeling nothing would be said to Restaurant Manageress Overall very disappointing and I would avoid going back on principle

Good lunch deal but kind of far and hidden away. Asking for crushed red pepper flakes was a challenge. Pizza kind of oily

This is the best Chinese takeaway in Newmarket by far, the one very close across the market square is a disgrace, but the golden horse is excellent. I order food from the golden horse every week.

I came in for a coffee and served by a very pleasant young lady along with a pleasant man Very professional and happy to please

Ordered a double espresso which was awful, tasted like weak American watery diner filter coffee. The coffee used to be good. Won’t come again. Cortado further up the high street knows how to make proper strong espressos.

Nice quaint pub, lovely lady serving. But sadly food very poor, sliced processed ham and 1 potato chopped up and deep fried as chips with fried eggs at a price of £6.50. Coffee £2.50 in a normal household mug that wasn't very clean. We won't be returning

I ordered at 12:22pm. Said 30 mins for delivery, it didn’t come until nearly 13:40pm

Went for a meal, menu changed from our last visit, vegetarian choice not good and run out of lots of things on menu, so we left

The worst Chinese I’ve ever had asked for salt and pepper chips and got chips with crusty small bits of pepper no onion or sweet peppers in sight over priced hands down the worst I’ve ever had

One of the best spots in Newmarket town, the breakfast is the best in town without the doubt. Lovely pints in a great atmosphere. The pub has been recently fully refurbished but still has a lot of the key highlights from the old traditional pub which is incredibly nice. I highly recommend this place.

*Update 5/23/25* Google correctly shows temporarily closed now. I gave this 2 stars because the google hours are incorrect. Google states it opens at 11am. I came by at around noon on Tuesday May 20th, but there was no way inside as it appears construction and remodeling is taking place. I will update my review when the establishment is open for business.

Got to be one of the best burgers from a large chain. Love Burger king

Absolutely delicious meal out as a couple, I had the fillet steak and my partner had the chilli, lovely food and brilliant service. We was put off by the bad reviews but decided to go anyway and I am so glad we did. Will definitely be booking for next time. Thank you x

What a fabulous restaurant. We were a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews however we couldn’t have been more pleased. The food was delicious and sizzling hot. The service was fabulous and the owner was the kindest most accommodating man who provided a ramp for our son to access the restaurant with his wheelchair and was very attentive to his needs. Extensive menu and reasonably priced. If we are in the area again we will certainly return.

Shawings don't compare to Liberty Wings
