Come here regularly with my wheelchair bound Mum, Dad and unruly terrier. Staff are lovely and food is of a very high standard. Had the duck special with a kale and hazelnut pesto that was so good I begged for the recipe. Most of the food is sourced from the estate which makes it extra special. One of my favourite places and super magical at Christmas time. Will be back in a few weeks for a good Christmas roast.

We called in to have a light snack and to take a look around the farm & gift shop for possible gifts. At the door we were greeted with a sign “CARD PAYMENTS ONLY” This I find VERY UPSETTING and quite frankly VERY UNFRIENDLY - I also wonder if this actually DISRIMINATES against certain members of the community who can only deal in cash but apparently after searching the internet a business has every right to decide who they DON’T WANT as a customer. We continued to Bury St Edmunds where we had a lovely day and spent our CASH!!!!

One of the stops on our journey from Portsmouth to the Norfolk Broads. Lovely lunch in the courtyard, a quiet, rural location. Very busy but food arrived quickly. Good quality with sufficient choice for a lunch. Dog friendly. Plenty of parking. Will definitely visit again, much better than a service station!

We stopped off here on our way to Gt Yarmouth, had a lovely time looking in the shops there then had a lovely lunch in the courtyard. I had toasted ciabatta sandwich, it was excellent. Service was very good, maybe a bit pricey, but as we enjoyed it so much and we were on holiday it didn't matter, felt it was worth it for the experience.

We called in to get a takeaway coffee and cake. The choice of cake in the dog cafe was poor only a few slices of sad looking cake to choose from, so we went to the main restaurant hoping for more choice, it wasn't any better. It was very poor, I only had cash with me. I didn't realise they only accept card payments. A member of staff which I presume was the supervisor was so rude and spoke to me like I was something she had trodden in, because I had to cancel my order, she snapped at me telling me "it says no cash all around the building ". I apologised but she basically ushered me out of the way. We have been visiting this restaurant for years, but never again !!! I don't expect to be treated or spoken to in a rude dismissive manner, or not be able to purchase food or drinks because they don't take cash.

Been here many times, a great half way stop for us, with food normally OK, if a bit pricey. Stopped for Sunday lunch and had the worst meal that stayed with me for ages, for all the wrong reasons. Roast beef, about 20% congealing fat, dried out lean and the whole thing overwhelmed by a cheesy rosemary and leek flavoured sauce that covered the vegetables ( such as they were ) and looked like vomit. Good potatoes spoiled by greasy gravy. Fish and chips was skinny, batter crisp on outside, raw floury mush on inside. New chef needed.

Very disappointing. We were looking forward to trying a new dog friendly venue, but don’t think we will be returning. The menu was quite pricey but we were ok with this, however, the quality and value for money was not up to standard. It was £17 for a cheeseburger, which was very small and half the chips were not edible. The pork chop special came with chips and the server asked if we would like some vegetables with it, which we accepted. However, did not realise we would be charged an extra £4.50 for a handful of peas and carrots. We had planned on dessert but given the prices and limited selection, we didn’t bother. The dog biscuit bar was lovely, but £2 for a single biscuit is absolute extortion. Service was slow given they were not busy. Very disappointing and there are many much better dog friendly places locally.

Lunch on a Sunday with family. Excellent food: my husband had roast pork, my son and I the Cauliflower Steak (vegetarian), absolutely delicious. Puddings are great, if you are gluten free have a cake instead. Non-dairy milk available, decaff coffee if required. The staff are very friendly and happy to explain why they are card only - understandable. Can't recommend highly enough, brilliant farm shop and gift shop. Dogs can accompany you in the Dog & Scone cafe, same food.

We’ve visited this venue for breakfast on many occasions over the years. In the main, the food and service has always been good. On a recent visit we were a bit disappointed. I had the American style pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. My husband had kippers with toast. The pancakes were ok. The bacon was tasty but had obviously been cooked earlier and was therefore rather dry. The plate was swamped with maple syrup and therefore the bottom pancakes very soggy. The dish could so easily have been made much better by simply drizzling a little syrup over the plate and putting the rest in a little jug. The kippers were lovely but my husband’s complaint was the toast. For a farmshop professing to use the very best ingredients, it was disappointing to find the single round of toast was a piece of supermarket medium sliced wholemeal. No butter provided. Prices aren’t cheap and we really expected a chunk of the nice bread that they sell in the shop on the premises. Wouldn’t cost much more but makes a huge difference. The breakfast menu is very good and varied. Prices slightly above average which is fine as long as food is good quality and nicely served. I feel things need to be tweaked a bit to ensure people don’t move along to other restaurants. Service was friendly and efficient

Visited yesterday for lunch and a browse around the food and home shop. Always expect to pay more for the quality and service here. Nothing fancy just ciabatta with sausages , and one with Beef. You’d expect for 12.95 that you could taste and possible see the filling. Beef, extra thin, 1/2 slice. Sausages! Just the 1, small and cut horizontally into 3 and spread across the bread. I know there’s s certain amount of cost cutting, but this was ridiculous. Staff, shocking. Didn’t know what they were doing and walking around aimlessly pretending to look busy and ignoring customers. Won’t ever go back. Sorry. Used to love visiting, but will take my business elsewhere.

We dropped in yesterday afternoon for a cup of tea and cake. We arrived at 3.20pm. On entering we were told that they were they could not serve us as they needed to clear up and leave at 4pm. We left but noticed a sign in the window that said they served tea and cake until 3.30pm. We went back in and mentioned that the sign said they served until 3.30 and it was only just past 3.20 at this point. The person went back into the kitchen and someone else came out and made a big deal about allowing us to be the last one of the day. Again the point was made that we only wanted a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Again the staff blamed the management saying they had to leave by 4pm. The place was not busy and I can see why if this in the attitude of staff. The cake was lovely and tea was good but the whole experience was ruined by the appalling customer service. We wouldn’t recommend I’m afraid.

We were kept waiting to get in(Even with a wheelchair). Then told, with a wave of the hand, to put the wheelchair in the corridor(??). The crunch came because we said we disagreed with the policy of no cash.We understood but disagreed. When my wife said we had heard all the argument she was accused by the waitress of shouting. The waitress then lessened that to raising her voice but she refused to serve us, took the menus away and told us to leave. I have never been treated so badly and obviously never return. Which is sad since it was me who wanted to go there in the first place. I understand your reason for not wanting cash but to refuse to accept the legal currency of the country you are selling in seems very narrow minded.

My wife asked for a table and was told none available till 1400. We said that’s fine and decided we would leave it as had to pick up the grandson from school. My wife went to the toilet and I was waiting for her at the side. A few minutes later 2 people asked for a table and was told, one would be available in 10 mins as I overheard the conversation and was given a buzzer. The two other guests were not local as they where discussing where they were from and this was a nice place to meet up. As you can imaging I was a bit disappointed/annoyed by this and asked why they could have a table but were were told 2hrs later. The waitress said they had 3 cancellations and some had come available. I was waiting for my wife and they was no phone cals or people walking up to cancel, while I was waiting. I don’t mind being told not available for our requested time, but told lies is my trigger and was disappointed with this answer. I hope they don’t need to depend on locals again in the future as they same to value out of town people for what I can see. On the bright side we have eaten here a few times and it has nice disabled access. The food has been great. But today was a disappointing visit and will be taking my custom to other places. But if your face fits, and they want you in their establishment. Worth a try if you pass their check list and get a buzzer.

This is such a shame. The food can't be faulted, and the staff try their best with what they have. Today they had no white wine that was on the menu. So they brought out a substitute without saying so. This 'wine' was made from a concentrate, and bottled in norfolk. 8% a!cohol by volume. Unfortunately this is in a shop that, once upon a time, prided itself on letting the customer have wine recommended by the on site expert. Now they serve rubbish and are about to reduce the selection even more. We returned the wine and didn't bother with the food. Fantastic fish and chips need complementing. If I wanted a cafe, I'd find one. This is, or was, a restaurant I would recommend to anyone. Not any more. The staff deserve better. This poor performance isn't their fault. The menu can be changed daily.

Travelled for an hour to meet a friend here. The setting is great but the food we chose was disappointing. It was a main course salad of buffalo mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, roasted peach with pistachio nuts, priced at £12.50. It arrived on a plate around the size of a tea plate, about 21/22cm. As a starter it would have been acceptable but not at £12.50. When the plates were taken away my friend asked the waitress if she’d like some feedback. Our feedback was that it was insufficient as a main course. Waitress said she’d feedback to the chef but then didn’t come back to us except to ask if we wanted a dessert, we did, we were still hungry! So we asked what the Chef had said and it was that the ingredients were expensive and there was a whole mozzarella ball, mini balls is all I can say to that. It was interesting that the next table a while later were asking about the ‘special’ salad. The same waitress said “small” and put her two fingers and thumbs together to indicate the size. Shame we didn’t have that information when we ordered. Pictures to show 4 pieces or sun dried tomato, half a very hard peach, pistachio nuts, a tablespoon of lettuce and some mozzarella, we asked if it was one ball between three plates!

We have had four afternoon teas here over the past 3 years. All have been value for money and very good. The bread used is second to none and the sandwich fillings are not skimpy. Plenty of piping hot delicious tea and coffee. The scones are to die for. I think adding a sausage roll would be a good idea or having it as an alternative to a cheese scone. However, on all four occasions, the only thing that is less than top notch is the cake selection which is obviously chilled and therefore quite dense in texture. I bake a lot of cakes so I know what I'm talking about and this would be a quick fix. That said, I'd still go back as the test is excellent, great service and value for money.

Had a great lunch here while on holiday in the area.. The menu had a good choice of light meals and full plates as well as a daily specials menu from which we chose the corn chowder and meat platter (selection of sliced meats, venison terrine, pulled pork and a sausage roll served with bread and chutney). Both were tasty and really well presented. We ordered desserts as the selection was too tempting to resist - chocolate fondant and a cherry almond bread and butter pudding. Also delicious and nicely presented. They had a small counter of cakes and pastries to choose from as well. Lots of nice looking food served to other tables who had ordered bigger meals too. The restaurant is a really nice room, sunny and spacious with a high ceiling and screens between some of the tables. You can book for an inside table and it was very busy when we arrived. We thought the staff were really friendly and the service good, and speedy. The restaurant is part of the courtyard which has a home/gift shop and farm shop as well as an outdoor seating area which would be lovely in warmer weather. There is a one way system around the shop which is quite big and worth a visit especially for the choice of farm shop groceries. Closed on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Would recommend for lunch/tea and cake.

The staff were unwilling to accept the poor quality of the offer and grudgingly discounted the meal by 2 portions of chips. Needless to say we wont be returning. Its a crying shame especially in these tough times.

Ideal for us as 1/2 way home from the broads. Lovely home made chicken & gammon pie, & good coffee. Good service from the waitresses & dog friendly too. Would be a good place to meet people. Not cheap but quality & most of the menu is farm to fork. & the sun was out !

Possibly the worst food I have ever eaten. Rubber pork that could not be cut with the knife, concrete sprouts and fat sodden potatoes. Vile.

Really great that Elveden shop is open during lockdown. They have carefully laid things out to keep everyone safe and are even able to offer takeaway food and coffee. Couldn't be better. Drop in and give them your support.

Very disappointed. Just wanted a sandwich- something tasty but what did I get? Something that a hospital might have served up in the 70’s. brown, old, dry bread and mashed cheese with lots of chutney. Couldn’t taste the cheese. What’s wrong with serving good local bread and local cheese? It wasn’t cheap either. Please give a description I realise not everyone expects to chew their food but I would have thought cheese and chutney means a slice of a tasty cheese plus a flavoursome addition of chutney. Do away with the ‘cute’ little basket for crisps please it does not add value to my ‘experience’.

We visited on bank holiday Monday on the way to Center Parcs. The service was great, tables were spaced out inside. The outside area looked nice but people had to come in to order. The menu was fairly varied considering that it was a limited menu due to the pandemic. I had the vegan burger which was ok but nothing special. My family had the pie of the day which they said was lovely. The desserts were amazing and really well presented and the cake we had was delicious. We had a discount due to the eat out to help out scheme but I would definitely visit again and try something other than a burger.

I visited the cafe today with my husband and daughter for lunch and not having been for a long time was looking forward to a nice meal. We had a roast pork which was ok-just a bit bland and it wasn't very hot!I also couldn't even bite through the "crackling"! I don't see how hard it is to serve hot food! It must've been held in a warming cupboard or something. My husband had the fishcakes as a main course and again very bland- needed more seasoning! My daughter had a honey roast ham sandwich and a side order of chips. She said the ham didn't taste of much and the chips weren't very crispy-again probably cooked ahead and kept warm. If cooked fresh they would've been hot and crispy! We were all very disappointed and definitely won't be visiting again. I think they need to update the whole menu and revamp everything. Theres too much competition around and much better places to eat. As it was a Sunday, I expected it to be really busy but there was quite a few tables free,so maybe that says it all?

This restaurant was a random choice off the A11 but wow what a treat. The food is simply wonderful. I went with my 23 yeard old daughter and my 82 year old mother and they all loved it. My daughter as a vegetarian was very impressed by the food and the range. I had a burger with the meat locally sourced and oh boy you could taste it. Food was served quickly and piping hot and very very tasty. Well trained staff and good quality. A treat and a great time!

Set in the delightful Thetford forest, The Elveden Shops and Restaurant is easily missed. The main Restaurant is quite small but when we visited they had a Marquee set up for a large party/Wedding.All the sets were taken, so we Offered the option to make our way to a much smaller cafe in a courtyard. here they served light meals and teas/coffees.There again this was full . (Must have been a one off.) Waited for a table to become vacant. We had teas and soft drinks. Looking for the Toilets we were informed that the only toilets were back in the main Restaurant. So we made our way back. Noticed that these where situated at the back of the restaurant.Still when we arrived. they were clean and tidy. Note :- If you visit make sure you ring first to arrange a restaurant table.

I was meeting friends for lunch but because of the time of year was unable to reserve a table so I turned up early. I was lucky enough to get a table but told the waitress I was waiting for my friends to show. She was so lovely and asked me straight away if I wanted a drink while I was waiting then kept checking every 5 minutes or so if I wanted anything further until my friends showed up. The meal was beautiful and very tasty and the carrot cake we had for dessert was absolutely delicious.

We were in a party of 8 for a Christmas lunch. Our table was located in a cold marquee. The tables were bare with no Christmas trimmings / crackers etc. Service was slow, and food arrived cold, and each course was pretty tasteless. It was quite a dreary experience, which left the impression that the owners have become greedy to squeeze in too many customers at the festive season at the expense of food quality and service.

Visited today for a little shopping, while there we noticed there was no one around in the que for a table in the courtyard. As a family of 5 we thought we'd try fod a table. Was told there would be a 30min wait, which was fine. Returned and was seated and all was fine. Our order for placed promptly. Unfortunately 30 mins on we were still waiting for 3 roast dinners and 2 kids meals. When asked how much longer we would have to wait we were looked at as if we had asked something extremely inconvenient. We got our meals 40 mins after placing the order. 4 out of the 5 meals came out, still sat waiting 5 mins on I had to ask where the last one was to be told 'well we are busy'. No one came and asked if we wanted sauces or any more drinks, the 5th meal finally came out and all the meals were cold. When complaining about the this we were told again, 'well we are extremely busy and have a lot to serve and do'

Have eaten here a few times so was disappointed with some of the food. I had burger and chips and the chips were not very good, so I left some (unusual for me) as did my friend and the gluten free choc cake had a funny aftertaste, so I couldn’t eat it. My friend’s Christmas pudding wasn’t cooked all the way through. Two of our party had to wait an age for their puddings. Our waitress on the other hand was lovely and attentive and did not charge me for the cake or my party for teas and coffees due to the long wait. Perhaps an off day due to the volume of diners?

Booked a table for lunch. We ordered the roast. Waited over an hour for our food. No explanation, no apology when we commented on the wait. Food was very average when it did arrive. Vegetarian roast was bland. Although that dish was hot the turkey roasts were cold.

A memorable stay in a hotel with a unique history, once owned by the King of England. It’s come a long way since James I walked its halls—he wouldn’t have had the pleasure of the comfortable beds and room temperature control. Nor would he have been able to savor the delicious hotel menu or enjoy the fancy cocktails. He would certainly be proud that it’s now in the hands of Manager Ruth and her team, who make your stay exceptional with their warm welcomes and constant attention to detail. Overall, it's a 10 out of 10 from me for this wonderful hotel in a beautiful and fascinating part of the country.
