Nice quaint pub, lovely lady serving. But sadly food very poor, sliced processed ham and 1 potato chopped up and deep fried as chips with fried eggs at a price of £6.50. Coffee £2.50 in a normal household mug that wasn't very clean. We won't be returning

We didn't stay, we used the pub as part of the local petanque league. The pub itself was clean and tidy. The young lady behind the bar was friendly. They had a good range of drinks. The garden was nice, with lots of things for children. The petanque pitch had seen better days, but it still did the job. It was a shame they called last orders at 10pm, whilst games were still being played. It made us feel unwelcome at that point.

I personally did as I was hungry. Not much flavour . Food was Still cold should.never off eaten it . Hope I don't feel ill in the morning ... Never again will we return back .. Service very poor. Didn't even get a sorry at the time . But did when I left a comment on other media platform I'm not a fussy person and not hard to please. But these days £30 avg per head I would like to get value for money. Not too much to ask .

Really disappointing Sunday Lunch no Menu offered, Waiter offered Chicken or Lamb, we had no idea how much the Lunch would be, however was looking forward to the meal, The Meal came, hardly any vegetables, the Yorkshire Pudding was a small round sponge not crispy or light, the roast potatoes were anaemic, the meat not too bad, mince sauce tasted like mint leaves with added water. We had 2 desserts to share between the 4 of us as you had a choice of Chocolate pudding or Sticky Toffee with Ice cream. One of the Sticky Toffee Puddings had been pinged to long in Microwave could not put spoon in it. Overall we were disappointed

Just had the best steak dinner ever, can’t recommend highly enough. My partner is an ex butcher and is difficult to please where meat is concerned but the steak was amazing and cooked and rested to perfection. I had pepper sauce, lovely! ambient atmosphere and really good to see the local community together again. We loved it. Would highly recommend.

My partner and I had lunch at the Wheatsheaf today. It is the first time since the pub has been under new management and what a difference!! We ordered roast chicken and beef, it was really tasty and fresh, homemade Yorkshire pud and a really lovely gravy and I had lemon cheesecake because my partner was too full he couldn’t eat any more. We would highly recommend a visit

Highly recommended. Lovely traditional pub with the wooden beams etc. We came as a family for a roast. Staff were amazing. The meat was perfect so tender. And the gravy was the best! Brownie for dessert was so good too. Very warm cosy welcoming pub. Seems very popular with locals and the public. Will definitely be back : )

Unfortunately stayed here for 2 nights to attend Newmarket Races. Were given a very small damp and dirty room with cobwebs inside the window and in the wardrobe. Carpet dirty and threadbare and bed extremely uncomfortable due to being very old. Room was very cold at night due to no heating being on. No maid service for second night so no clean towels. toilet roll. tea, coffee etc, TV very old with missing remote control and limited channels only able to work manually. No bus service nearby so had to get a taxi everything and prices at bar very overpriced considering the shabby décor. No choice at breakfast just presented with a very greasy cooked breakfast, no toast . cereal or juice etc. Did ask for just toast on second morning as not able to eat cooked breakfast and given cheap bread and margarineOwner was very intrusive and although booked taxis was not really helpful or informative. We attempted to express our concerns and issues but he was very dismissive offering no apology and became quite surly and defensive. This place is very overpriced at 160 pounds for 2 nights and woule not stay here again.Informed by locals who avoid this place that ther are much better bed and breakfast facilities within the village

My family and I, a group of 6 in total visited The wheatsheaf on a Sunday for lunch. My partner had rung asking if it was alright for his family to come for a meal and was told there was plenty of space. When we arrived we were met with a shocked face and told that they had only been expecting two people... We were asked to wait while the table of 6 finished their coffee and that they wouldnt be long. We waited 20 minutes before we were invited in, because of the wait and the reaction to our numbers at arrival we expected the restaurant area to be busy but there was hardly anyone there, and looking around there were some tables for 5 which really could have fitted one more placing if it had been pulled out which would have meant we wouldnt have had to wait. We then waited a very long time to order and a very long time for starters. When the starters came all but one arrived. The waitress said it wouldnt be a moment and went back into the kitchen presumably to get the final starter but a minute later emerged with nothing and went to serve other people, she then went in and out several times with with other peoples food without acknowledging the the fact we were waiting. When we caught her attention she said it was just in its way, and then proceeded to continue getting other peoples food. By the time everyone else had finished the last plate came out and the waitress apologised saying the chef had dropped the first batch on the floor. I dont understand why she couldnt say that to start with and not kept us waiting as though it wasnt having to be remade. We then waited a long time for our roasts. Mine was missing componants which others had on their plates. The beef was generally very tough. We were then asked if we'd like a desert and declined and asked for the bill. 10 minutes later no bill had come and a different waitress asked us if we would like deserts and again we had to ask for the bill. Over all the experience was bad, the waiters and waitresses seemed rushed off their feet despite very few people eating in the restaurant, and there seemed to be little communication. Although this is out local pub we were very disappointed and won't be visiting again

The Wheatsheaf has been revamped, redecorated and reopened. We went today to sample the Sunday lunch. Where to start!! The food was absolutely gorgeous. We had the chicken and the lamb. The chicken was a lovely juicy whole breast, beautifully cooked and served with a variety of delicious vegetables, well-cooked and extremely well presented. There were huge Yorkshire puddings and stuffing balls, neither of which I like, but my husband said they were delicious. The gravy was hot, tasty and plentiful. The lamb, although served in rather thin slices, was also tasty and plentiful, complemented beautifully by the lovely veggies. We had a lovely bottle of Pinot Grigio to wash it down with which although a bit pricey, was quite delicious. We couldn't manage pudding after our main course, but the dessert list was comprehensive, with a very good choice. All in all, a lovely meal, with no negatives at all. We shall certainly return, although I understand that they intend to stop serving carvery for the summer, replacing it with barbecue in their lovely gardens. Luckily, we love barbecue too, so will be more than happy to have that instead of a roast. Lovely food, lovely staff, lovely location. Who could ask for any more?!!!

Called in early evening for a quick drink to see how the pub was under new owners and stayed for excellent fish and chips. Crisp light batter, fresh fish which flaked and crumbled and home-made chips - as good as we have tasted in quite a while and great value. The menu is very limited at the moment but what they do is very good. Great to see the pub back in good hands. Very friendly and efficient service and nice atmosphere. We will be back!

We stopped in for a quick look round and ended up enjoying a lovely roast lunch and a nice pint of cider. The food was huge! Extra boat of gravy with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, loads of veg and plenty of meat. Very nice pub with the usual green king selection of beers etc. Will most definitely be back for more!

My wife and I sometimes come here for lunch on Sunday or occasionally stop for dinner. The buffets (both cavery & chinese) offer a good selection and are well stocked. One of out favourite local eateries.

A memorable stay in a hotel with a unique history, once owned by the King of England. It’s come a long way since James I walked its halls—he wouldn’t have had the pleasure of the comfortable beds and room temperature control. Nor would he have been able to savor the delicious hotel menu or enjoy the fancy cocktails. He would certainly be proud that it’s now in the hands of Manager Ruth and her team, who make your stay exceptional with their warm welcomes and constant attention to detail. Overall, it's a 10 out of 10 from me for this wonderful hotel in a beautiful and fascinating part of the country.
