With a new chef the Sunday lunches are fresh and homemade. The portion sizes are such good value for money. I feel the new owner is now finding her feet and wish them all the success in the world.

We went there today for a child’s party, the owner didn’t even show up to open the place. Her partner showed with a child on a fowl mood and didn’t seem to have a clue what was going on. No food prepared and to be honest this place isn’t suitable for any kind of even let alone a child’s birthday.

First time trying the Sunday Carvery and it was lovely. Food was hot, tasty, great choice of veg, massive yorkshires and ok on price. They haven’t been doing it long so still finding their feet. Once they have some more experience and get the serving down to a tee, it’ll be faultless.

Thought we would try the new Sunday carvery advertised. Upon entering we thought we had made a mistake as there was a small hit table with a big pile of Yorkshire puddings but literally nothing else. However we paid and sat down and were told the food was ready as it had all been brought out. On first inspection there did not appear to be a particularly wide range on offer. The meat choice was limited to either chicken or beef, veg was peas, carrots and cabbage, as well as cauliflower cheese. The beef was very very pink and dripping blood on the board (I like pink beef but this was too much). My husbands chicken leg was raw in the middle (bloody). Very small tray of mashed potatoes which ran out so not everyone could have some, although it was later filled. Veg and roast potatoes were nice. Overall quite dear for the selection offered and the “pudding” choice of ice cream or ice lollies did not tempt us. Needs improving in order for the business to succeed as currently this service feels very amateur. Should say the staff were very welcoming and lovely. Sadly we won’t be returning due to undercooked meat which was very off-putting.

Absolutely the worst meal we have both experienced! It’s not even worthy of the 1 star. We saw that there was a few cars in the car park so we thought we would try the advertised Sunday Roast. 1) The service was appalling from both of the waitresses 2) Our dog ended up with most of my meat as I couldn’t chew it! We even asked if the beef was tender to which the reply was ‘ the chef here is very experienced’, well we both wondered afterwards experienced at what! The food was served on what I would call a mid-size white plate. The food was stacked with no room to spare so trying to saw through the meat was rather difficult. The vegetables were over cooked (cabbage well perhaps half a leaf). The green beans the same but stringy. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire was probably the best thinks on the plate. They couldn’t even get the drink order correct - two drinks: a flat white coffee and a soda & lime without ice. What arrived was a cup and saucer with black coffee and a jug of cold milk. The lime & soda arrived in a glass completely full of ice so my partner asked for the ice to be removed for me. What came back was a glass with soda without any lime and a minute comer of a slice of a lemon. We didn’t dare stay to try the offer of a pudding: I wander what they could do to an apple crumble or a creamy rice pudding. I don’t think any of them have a clue what they are doing! A total shambles.

Going downhill fast... First of all, the pucture shown on this Google listing is misleading. This place hasn't consistently served food in nearly 3 years. The place is so mismanaged that no one wants to work for them long and they tend to run out of beer. This is simply a local pub now, but many of the locals would rather go into town to drink than go here now. Just sell it to someone else and let them turn it into something that the community can actually enjoy.

This pub is in a disgusting state, name dropped off, filthy windows, paint peeling off all window frames, broken windows, filthy old blinds, filthy stained curtains. Yes it’s really inviting and that’s just the outside. It totally brings down the whole area. Who in their right mind would venture inside. 🤮

We found this pub by chance and finding that it was dog friendly we decided to stop for a light lunch. We received a very warm welcome by the relatively new landlord (2 months) who spoilt our dog with treats. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly and there was a good choice of beers and food. We opted for a portion of breaded prawns and a portion of chips to share. We are naturally chatty people and enjoyed talking to the landlord and sharing some stories. After we had finished eating a group of 8 local farriers (well it was close to Newmarket) came in and we started chatting to them as well. What a great atmosphere and we could have stayed all afternoon but had to get to our next port of call by 4.00pm. The chef also came out to join in the conversations which added to the warm, welcoming feeling. We would thoroughly recommend a visit to this lovely pub and ensure that the new landlord has success in his new venture. We need more pubs like this one.

What we had was good, however, according to the Blackboard the meat was Beef, Chicken, or Gammon. Unless you are known to Chef, after we had eaten he came and offered two guests LAMB.. I will attach a picture of our ‘Large’ portions. That is unless you are known to chef, then your portion is considerably larger. Note, the small flat piece of Yorkshire pudding, or at least I think that’s what it is supposed to be. Four, yes four sprouts, I actually asked our lovely waitress if she were sure that these were large portions. Note one slice of parsnip, one slice of sweet potato, that mushed up white stuff is cauliflower cheese and sloppy broccoli. I made my issues known, it’s simply not good enough to give preferential treatment to regulars, unfortunately we are local and were just out for a Sunday lunch. Like I said what we had was nice, and graciously and politely served, but if you know chef you will get larger, large portions. Don’t go here if you don’t know chef.

My wife and I sometimes come here for lunch on Sunday or occasionally stop for dinner. The buffets (both cavery & chinese) offer a good selection and are well stocked. One of out favourite local eateries.
