Really tasty roast dinner. Second visit within the last month. Will definitely be back again. Friendly staff and such reasonable prices!

We had two group meals at the pub and the service was always excellent the Sunday roast was superb. Would highly recommend this pub for a meal and drink

Decided on a last minute lunch out with friends. We had previously had a good experience at The Golden Boar and wanted to go again. We were not disappointed. We had the Sunday Roast Dinner which was delicious (I am a fussy Roast dinner eater) and the Eton Mess dessert was amazing. The restaurant area was fairly modern for an old building and lovely done. Perfect venue for a private function. Tables are well spaced apart so no overcrowding. Service and waitresses were excellent. Just wish this place was a little nearer to home as it would become a regular place to eat.

Visited today for the first time for dinner. We are a young family with a crazy toddle and the beer garden gave her plenty of room to run around in. The staff were all warm and welcoming and the food was delicious. We live local we will definitely return.

Lovely lunch today, ribs were tasty and tender, chicken gyro, a small plate, was huge and really delicious. Panna Cotta really nice too. Excellent service, efficient and friendly. We will be back, thank you.

We visited as a family of three on a Saturday lunch time. We were greeted by a really lovely young man who let us choose a table we liked. He was so friendly and patient. Our drink order was taken quickly and we were given time to look at the menus. When the food came it was delicious. Piping hot and very generous portions. We all had something different and they were all excellent. The chef came out to make sure we were happy. The restaurant was very clean and the tables were nicely spaced out. I’m really pleased that we found this gem.

Very disappointing.On entering bar area it was so cold..we were not the only diners eating with coats on. We all had the roast lunch which sadly was served on cold plates and not very hot, thought we would try a dessert when given the dessert menu no mention of no Bakewell tart which we all decided to have,the replacement was sticky toffee pudding which we ordered and arrived on different sized plates presentation was awful surely the custard should have came in a jug (photo attached) unfortunately these all got returned as all stone cold. Then being overcharged for the roast (£16 on the menu) but £17 on till 🤷‍♀️ Definitely won’t be returning

On arrival found the bar area to be very cold. No heating on which was very much needed on a cold and rainy April day. Unfortunately we were seated in the bar area so sat with our coats on during dinner. We placed our order and was very disappointed with the portion sizes which was served on cold place. The meals themselves were not particularly hot. We ordered desserts and when they arrived were stone cold. We mentioned this to the waitress and she said she would get them reheated but by this point we had had enough so cancelled the order. We then requested the bill only to find we were being overcharged for our main meals. The pub was busy and with lots of comings and goings being sat by the door with no heating was not the best experience. Won't be going back.

Absolutely super food and amazing hospitality. Not the first time I've been here and pleased to say the standards remained high and nothing was to much trouble. Will be back again!

at last somebody has taken the time to turn this public house into something special @ what a great job they have done,my family have been here in the past over some different times. we will be bringing more family back in the near future roll on the summer for my cream tea gathering.

Sadly you can't rate a 0 . I've never been to the Golden Boar until today after a nice Saturday walk with friends and 3 kids we decided to pop in and give it a try . Ordered drinks went outside to sit then went to order some food ( light lunch) Was then told no more food is being served as we are too busy surely we should of been told this upon arrival at the pub also I think that's part and parcel of running a food establishment you want it to be busy especially in this climate. I then asked a member of staff if they could do some chips for the kids to be told I will ask the chef who said no which I clearly don't see there being an issue with chips as they are chucked in the fryer for 3/4 minutes. We won't be returning .

Went here for a Sunday lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. 11 of us from 9 to 74 and must say that everything was superb. Food beat our expectations and portions were enormous. All fresh and hot . Service was second to none and all very reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone.

This hotel's professionalism deserves zero marks. Upon reaching out via email to inquire about room rates, I was shocked by the staff's unprofessional conduct. They requested irrelevant personal information and even questioned whether I understood the term "parasite." Here's their email reply: "Thank you Virgina Wong for your booking. What job do you do and can I have where you live Can you confirm you know the meaning of the word Parasite Oxford English Dictionary An organism that lives in or on an organism of another species (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the others expense." Rarely do I leave Google Reviews, but the staff's behaviour was deeply inappropriate and offensive. I feel compelled to inform the public about the current state of the hotel's service to aid in their decision-making process before visiting.

Fabulous pub, in the centre of the village with good food and plenty of good beers. There's even an elephant on a roof opposite the Pub, (honestly!) Well worth a visit!

Absolutely fantastic food,service and staff, I tend to try and visit places a few times before leaving an honest review Me and my partner and our dog have visited for the steak night, and the tapas night, and I can honestly say I was blown away by the quality of the food. Everything was perfectly done, the staff are very friendly and the owner is very friendly. I couldn’t recommend this hidden little gem of a pub enough! Well done and look forward to returning

A wonderful find on line and perfect place to visit family for our get together and exchange Christmas gifts that did not get done at Christmas time. The meals were lovely and plentiful. The service was splendid . The landlord was very friendly as were the young ladies .

We went for a family lunch, eight of us, and we chose the pub because it was near where we were staying. We did not know that the food was going to be of such high quality. Such tasty steaks cooked to perfection .... homemade steak and ale served on the best garlic mash I have ever had ..... and exquisite sticky toffee pudding. Highly recommend!

Great atmosphere on arrival but pub was very cold. Firstly told that the pie was off the menu although the large table beside us, who ordered after us, not only got 4 pies but had finished their meals before we even got ours. We waited for hour before they said the chef couldn’t make the falafel that we ordered and had to choose something else, then a further 30 minutes before the meal finally came out; my burger had been kept just warm and there was no side salads. I’m not sure what my wife’s chicken burger was …. But it didn’t look nice. The Manager gave us two drinks free but we weren’t looking for a freebie just a good meal! The staff were lovely especially our waitress, such a pity this could be such a great pub!

Nice little pub, good to have Peroni on tap, would like to try the food and update the review based upon that. It is sometimes tricky to get to the bar as people tend to congregate by the bar which often means you need to ask others to come by (not the pubs fault).

We popped in on saturday to book a table, following a recommendation, and we were persuaded to have a drink too (nice coffee). Went for Sunday lunch, which was fantastic value, and the staff were extremely friendly. Recommended.

We went to this restaurant on Friday 15th December. The meal was the best I have eaten out for a long time. All the staff were so friendly and professional in their manner. At the end of our meal the owner asked if we had enjoyed the meal and then the chef also came to the table to see if we had enjoyed the meal. The restaurant was not over busy but we were made to feel valued customers. Unfortunately this is quite rare in a lot of eateries nowadays. We will definitely be going back in the near future. The prices were also very reasonable.

Bad shower arrangements in the shared bathroom. Cannot stand up in the bath to take a shower. Have to fill the bath using the shower, no tap into the bath. Chef wore dirty whites and no apron. Food disappointing. My room stank of cigarette smoke when I arrived, with even the fresh towels smelling of smoke. No breakfast supplied. No soap or shower gel in the bathroom

Best pub ever! We had an amazing afternoon here and Paul was brilliant. Great service, great food and great drinks!

Went for lunch, 4 adults. We all ordered different items from the lovely menu and everyone thoroughly enjoyed our meals. All cooked well, fresh, quality, tasty and great value. The service was excellent, friendly and welcoming. A gem of a place - really worth a visit.

We stayed at the Golden Boar for a week during the sales, we felt so good and relaxed there, that we extended our visit. This place is so unique! The hospitality, the atmosphere, the food and the staff were just amazing! They deserve a gold medal for the work they're doing. We came in lady Saturday while on a girl’s weekend - the bar staff were super friendly and accommodating. Good selection of drinks and a very pretty beer garden!

Come for a roast dinner last week with my family. Had the nut roast with the cauliflower cheese and it was the best pub roast I have ever had. Will definitely be back!

The service was excellent, unfortunately the food was not. The beef was so chewy and the veg was undercooked and hard. The Yorkshire pub was set like concrete.

I thought £130 per night was expensive (we were visiting for a friend’s wedding) but at that price we thought it would be a very nice place to stay for the weekend. How wrong we were! The room was very tired. The carpets in the bedroom smelt badly of stale urine, so much so that we had to sleep with the windows open, even though it wasn’t a particularly warm night. There were no toiletries whatsoever, except for a hand wash on the sink. Only three bent coat hangers hung in the wardrobe. The towels were hard and worn, and two were a dark brown colour (not nice at all). The coffee in the jar was old and stale and tasted revolting. There was not even any breakfast included for the price. We were booked in for two nights, but only stayed for one as the Golden Boar was so bad, and drove straight home (over 100 miles) after the wedding reception. I have never before come home from a hotel or B&B and washed every single item of clothing (including the unworn items) just because the room was so smelly, and of such a poor standard all round. Would definitely not recommend

Wanted an early meal after a lovely walk at Anglesey Abbey. Had old "good pub" guide which pointed us to the Golden Boar (we knew it would have changed hands, but once a good pub...) We weren’t disappointed, they served us at 6pm, evidently they serve food early because the Americans like to eat early, they open at 5pm. not sure if they serve food that early. Menu was reasonably priced, and good old pub food... Scampi, burgers, steaks. We shared bang bang cauliflower for a starter, nice salad with them, but bizarrely served with a Barbecue sauce, sweet chilli would have matched them better. Maybe the Yanks prefer Barbecue sauce. All in all a lovely experience with change from £50 for the two of us.

Very good roasts all veg cooked properly massive Yorkshire puddings and meat was nice and tender. Tried some veggie roast and that was also very good 👌

This pub was a little gem of a find while on a dog walking holiday. The dogs were allowed at the pub with us while we had our dinner. The hostess was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. I never leave reviews but I have to post about this place. The food was 5 stars, the pub was well cared for, the beer garden is perfect and the staff were brilliant!

Went for Sunday roast. Probably better if you make a booking but thankfully they fit us in. Everything on my plate was delicious and perfectly done. Specially carrots and red cabbage. Really loved it. I’ve got the vegetarian version which was exactly the same as my partner’s just no meat. Thats the reason why only 4⭐️ as I expected nut roast or some other alternative. He said chicken was nice. Friendly and kind staff.

Lovely public house. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Booked a table for 2. Good service. Food was hot. I ordered sausage and mustard mash. Couldn't taste the mustard in the mash. Seasonal veg good. But too much gravy. Might have been better in a small jug but very tasty. My mum had veg quiche new potatoes and salad which she said was excellent. Staff was first class.

Absolutely Shocking, checked in and checked straight out room was filthy with stains on bed sheets and the smell of dogs was overwhelming with dog hair's in the bed, but the bloke from behind the bar was a gentleman not his fault he just works there

Booked for mother's day, parking was a bit of an issue as the car is small despite having a little overflow car park. Pub is lovely and staff very welcoming and friendly, especially the landlord he's very relaxed and likes to have a laugh. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. My mother-in-law doesn't eat a large main meal, so we asked if we could have a smaller portion, and the waitress said that wouldn't be a problem and she would knocked off the pint and tonic water off the bottom bill to make it fair as it was a set menu price, 2 courses £25 and 3 courses £30. Mother-in-law opted for avocado and prawn salad, braised lamb rump with veg, sticky toffee pudding, my partner opted for duck and orange liver pate, roasted sirloin with veg, zesty meringue pie and I opted for halloumi bites with sweet chilli sauce (I personally would have liked a bit more sauce), beer battered cod (with the skin of 😋), and warm chocolate fudge cake. All was lovely, we did have to ask for parsnips as they were missing of the roast dinners, plus the veg were a bit harder than they liked. Over all it was a lovely Mother's Day lunch, especially when they brought my mother-in-law and myself a voucher for £10 to be used within three months. What a lovely surprise. Thanks to all of the staff who worked that day for a lovely lunch. We will definitely be seeing you all again soon.

Visited for Sunday lunch. The roast itself was fairly alright - the beef looked well done but wasn't as tough as it looked. 4 stars for that. The service was pretty slow, but not disastrous. The low point was the dessert. We had bread and butter pudding. It wasn't sweet, we all honestly wondered if they had accidentally put salt in instead of sugar. The chef obviously hadn't tasted it. A shame, as it out a real downer on the meal

Good welcome and a delicious lunch! Busy place with atmosphere and ambience. Nice selection on the menu ( venison haunch was a real winner! ) . The host made a lovely spontaneous gesture of Prosecco and a candle on dessert when he found out there...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wow! What a find.. we often travel down from Reading to ride at Wildtracks.. my only request is that if we go we have to find somewhere nice to eat.. Googled dog friendly pub; scanned through some of the menu’s.. this really caught my eye, good for all the family & DOG FRIENDLY! What a warm welcome we received, not in our best attire having been on a track all day, but the reception was lovely! Kids thrilled with the free Wi-Fi, and with me going newly sober was more than happy with their range of non-alcoholic drinks.. the husband loved the choice of real wine too! No children’s menu, but really accommodating with the kids choices from the main menu! The food was fantastic and service just amazing, brought little extras for the kids ‘just in case’ just so refreshing to find somewhere like this. Will definitely be returning, thank you so much!

We chose the Golden Boar for our family Christmas Dinner this year, after stopping for lunch a number of times. With a group of 20 of us including a baby we were very well looked after, despite it being on the same night at the world Cup quarter finals, the pub had a lovely friendly atmosphere and the staff were great.

We stopped here for lunch when we were viewing a property in the village of Freckenham. Dave, the landlord is a wind up!! But Meg, his great Dane is a beauty. We stayed for lunch which was delicious. Very warm, welcoming pub

On arrival we were told of limited menu as chef off sick. Had we been informed in advance we'd have made alternative arrangements. Especially as the group at the next table had a much nicer looking meal, although probably pre-ordered, even the dessert options we were given didn't match what was on offer at the other table.

We went for an office group Christmas lunch. 30 people. Everything was superb. The wait staff were fun and friendly. The food for the Christmas menu was excellent, tasty and well cooked. Highly recommend.
