Because of its surrounding glazing, the atmosphere of the Glass House Cafe is inspiring and enhances the much needed social interaction with neighbours. All kinds of ages, and lovely comfort food of jacket potatoes, sandwiches and freshly made salads; generous portions and immediate service by friendly staff. And as you think you are done, you notice the delicious cakes sitting on the counter, and you stay for a quality coffee accompanied by one of them , at least :-). We are going back for sure! Keep up the great work, Maria and team!
See picture for the cold rubber things that should be fishcakes horrid burnt flat spring rolls. Chicken satay along with everything was cold. £40 for takeaway for 2 expect much more.

Got severe food poisoning, so bad that my husband called an ambulance. I ate my usual Prawn curry on Thursday evening 10th April. The prawns actually looked smaller and harder than normal, and in retrospect, like they had been reheated. Not freshly cooked. I shouldn't have eaten them, but I hadn't eaten a thing all day so was hungry. Luckily I only ate half of them as they tasted a bit strange, and I had boiled rice. During that night the nausea and sickness started...then it escalated into the worst 24 hours of my life. I HAVE NEVER FELT SO UNWELL. IT WAS HORRENDOUS. It was so bad that paramedics came and said I needed to go to hospital. I was so dehydrated as I couldn't keep a sip down. I had diarrhea for hours and hours. I lost all feeling in arms and hands. My whole body was I agony, chest pain and I was FREEZING COLD with a fever.
Whoever was the cook that night needs to be sacked.
What I went through I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. The hospital said it was shell fish poisoning. I hadn't eaten anything else since the day before.
I've used this takeaway since 1998.
This is the first time I've ever complained about anything.
I'm genuinely concerned this doesn't happen to anyone else, as 4 days later I'm still unwell.
Please take this seriously as this could kill someone, especially a child. Thank God my grandson didn't have any or god help you, I would not just be writing a complaint.
Fabulous sandwich, which we shared, also excellent quiche. We will go again ASAP!
We want to try the rest of the menu, but also the garden centre had a really good selection of house plants
This was such a great find, an absolute amazing Sunday Carvery - the staff are all friendly and the lovely lady who runs the place was so helpful, you can tell she puts her heart and soul into it and is passionate about doing things properly, everything homemade and little touches which made everything delicious!
The best roast potatoes I've ever had, you could honestly just have a bowl full of those on their own, don't know how they get them so crispy and fluffy! As others on here have said, the cauli cheese also went down well, great cheesy sauce and skin on top, yummy! We are not from the area, but will definitely be returning for the Sunday carvery again next time we visit, it was absolutely top notch!! Thanks so much we loved it 😁
What is the obsession with mustard. Mustard in both my ham and cheese toastie and a pigs in blanket roll? Doesn’t make any sense to me. Mustard is a commonly liked sauce so I don’t understand why pret covers everything in it. Both my meals would have been really nice if they hadnt of been covered in mustard.
We went here for lunch and sat in the lovely garden, which is decorated with teacups lovely plants benches and white tables. Staff were friendly and the food was lovely we had the brunch bagel 🥯 and an ice coffee. Just be careful when digging into the bagel as the poached egg yolk went everywhere- but this is a sign of a great egg. Drinks were also lovely. Would defo go back. They also have a gorgeous private function room with music defo worth looking into.
Friendly staff, too small for the size of hospital & the menu needs a look at. I felt visiting family at the hospital for a week, meant the menu was too much of the same type of food.
Aside from this, meals were available from Marks&Spencer but there was no where to heat them up.
We saw some interesting wooden beams above the counter,
And cakes and bread , items that looked amazing on the counters.
We had our puppy with us and asked if dogs were allowed to sit under the table in the corner of the shop.
“Yes of course but take her upstairs” we were told.
Wow a hidden gem…..
Upstairs was wonderful ( we later found out) the building was 16th century and had a large white painted beamed restaurant with clean lovely wooden tables and the owner who could not do enough to make our visit special.
The food was different from other places was wonderful.
Our dog was made a fuss of as much as us.
A hidden special place that needs more visitors to expierence what we did.
Brilliant soft play, have been multiple times. Staff are very helpful and the facilities are clean and appropriate for young children. A very pleasant place to spend time. Very well judged menu and great coffee!
We decided to try this take away after seeing it in the ratings in the Essex Chronicle. We were definitely not disappointed! We have tried virtually every Chinese in Chelmsford and have finally found what we have been looking for - great food, served hot at reasonable prices!! Will be our regular point of call from now on and would recommend to everyone 😊😊😊
