Gourmet Express in Chelmsford

I decided to give Gourmet Express a try as my usual Chinese takeaway food quality had gone down hill recently. I was pleasantly surprised. My order was taken over the phone in a polite professional manner. The order was delivered hot and within the time I was given. The quality of the food was excellent and served in large portions. I will certainly be using Gourmet Express for my Chinese takeaways from now on.

Not even sure why we bothered ordering again from this place, a few years ago we ordered and there was a hair in one of the dishes the same thing happened again tonight, it's clearly obvious that there is a lack of hygiene in the kitchen. The food isn't that great either. I'll report it to Chelmsford city council as it's now happened twice and deliveroo won't offer a refund. *Response to the recent reply* - I didn't really expect an apology based on your lack of accountability for any negative feedback/review. The poor hygiene complaint has been filed with Chelmsford council.

We've been ordering from here for years, and we always have a good meal. Really tasty food and not greasy at all. Ordered again last night and food was delivered really promptly by a lovely delivery driver.

For us it's the only Chinese takeaway in Chelmsford that delivers quality food consistently. Always delicious and exactly as it should be

Shame, very runny sweet & sour sauce.

Cold food no flavour prawn and chicken balls weren’t cooked properly and were all squishy and the sweet and sour sauce tasted of nothing and was very watery ruined my husbands birthday treat!

Always good food, we have been using them for years, never had a bad experience

One of the worst Chinese meals I’ve had. The chicken dishes were not chicken. The beef dish was chewy, I stop eating after two mouthfuls. Never again.

If I could give it zero stars then I would! I have never in my 50 plus years been so disgusted with a Chinese takeaway. Absolute filth! Completely processed, disgusting 'food'! No chef on site obviously. Straight out of the processed pack straight from the warehouse. The 'chicken' is plastic in appearance and I dare not even put it in my mouth. £35.00 of hard earned money given to an absolute joke of a restaurant. How they are allowed to even trade is mind blowing. Steer well clear. FILTH!!!

Hot, freshly prepared and tasty although it arrived ten minutes early and I was just out the shower, I really did enjoy it

The food had fallen all over the car and we had to sodnd over an hour to organise getting the food and go and collect ourselves. Disgusting and restaurant told us it would be fully tefunded

One dish was inedible and went in the bin, the others were tasteless. Very disappointed!

Regular customer always had excellent sevice, however one week the order was definitely not up to standard, the chicken chou mein was like mashed potato, the spring roll was dripping in oil all of which impacted on the rest of our order. I contacted the Manager immediately, who apologised and offered a refund on our next order. I contacted Gourmet Express today to place our order and reminded the Manager regarding refund, only to be met with the Manager renaging on his previous offer and asking for £10.00, this was not acceptable, so unfortunately a regular customer lost. As in many cases it is not the service judged when things go well, it is judged on how complaints are handled.Not acceptable

Love this Chinese take away and use it a lot - food is always very tasty.

Place isn't clean in my opinion, I would personally avoid until its been cleaned up. It wouldn't kill them to vacuum every once in a while either.

Absolutely delicious food. A Little bit late but well worth the wait, and they messaged to say they were a little delayed which I really appreciate....I don't mind if I know! Definitely will be back again! Highly recommend!

Very good, enjoyed everything apart form the ribs, very little meat on them.

Chicken balls soggy . Honey Ribs had little meat on . Sweet and sour sauce had exploded over everything in the bag . Prawn crackers was the best part of my order

Very enjoyable beef curry and rice. I order regularly from Gourmet Express and always have good service. My order was a little earlier than expected by Just Eat but I was happy with that 👍

I recently ordered from this restaurant for takeaway I ordered sweet sour chicken dish , during the night I felt really weird into having Severe food poisoning sickness,, I have only just started to recover! I complained on just-eat but no-one took my complaint serious and just-eat censored my review also. This is disgusting! How could a restaurant cheat customers like this. This restaurant clearly lacks health and safety

The food was terrible. Cold tasteless curry and dry overcooked (tasted like yesterdays) salt and pepper chicken. Disappointing!

Disappointed. Only 5 pieces of squid in my salt n chill dish. And ribs in sauce very bland unfortunately plus £4 delivery charge is very steep considering I live 2 miles away.

Great food! Changed our normal Chinese and was lovely and food arrived early - only criticism was you get less prawn crackers than other Chinese places - but they are probably saving me from myself lol

I ordered peking duck which was really over cooked

Quite bland flavours. Needs more sauce for the sweet and sour balls. Chicken chow mein ok but half the size of other Chinese restaurants for the price. Overall ok, but I will try elsewhere for next time.

Fantastic & good quality food which is prepared really well. Food was pipping hot on arrival (the seafood mix in spicy sauce is delicious) and we received free prawn crackers! Really recommend.

Delicious hot food. The satay sauce was particularly nice, with a little spicy kick. Very nice.

The duck for the pancakes was cooked beautifully. Very nice julienne on the accompaniments. The Singapore noodles were very good, nice kick of spice and not overcooked. Fantastic overall, will order again 🫡

Dropped in on way home for a treat and left after only 10 minutes with enough food to cover lunch the following day too.

I marked down a bit last time as the rice was a bit dry, this time it was perfect. I really enjoyed my beef curry and boiled rice last night and my husband was happy with his chicken Kung po and special fried rice.

I order a beef curry and plain boiled rice most weeks. This week it seemed a bit dry as if the rice could do with a couple more minutes.

Shocking service, ordered 2 hours ago and our food never turned up. Phoned repeatedly and was lied to and told our food was on the way, eventually they admitted they never made our order. Will never use again.

Late and cold, driver couldn’t read sat nav and kept driving straight past!! Pointless and waste of money!
