We went here for lunch and sat in the lovely garden, which is decorated with teacups lovely plants benches and white tables. Staff were friendly and the food was lovely we had the brunch bagel 🥯 and an ice coffee. Just be careful when digging into the bagel as the poached egg yolk went everywhere- but this is a sign of a great egg. Drinks were also lovely. Would defo go back. They also have a gorgeous private function room with music defo worth looking into.

My partner and I visited Robyn’s nest for their festive afternoon tea. I paid a £15 deposit to secure the booking. I had been wanting to visit for so long so was really looking forward to it and I was definitely not disappointed. I didn’t find the service overly warm or friendly on the phone but this was definitely made up for on the day. We felt really welcomed and the staff were really attentive and efficient. The tea room is located in the lovely village of Writtle near Chelmsford. Inside had lovely festive decorations plus a cute flower wall. I thought the price of the afternoon tea was great value for money. All the food was fantastic, we started off with the warm savouries - the Brussel sprout and bacon quiche was a firm favourite. even my partner loved it who, like the majority, is not a sprout fan! We also had a generous portion of pigs in blankets plus a homemade goats cheese canapé which had quite an overwhelming taste. the sandwiches were also great particularly the turkey and stuffing. The other fillings were a little bit cheese overload after the goats cheese savoury. For our sweet treats we had a chocolate brownie, mince pie and a gingerbread man! And what added a special festive touch was the cranberry and white chocolate scone! There was a lovely atmosphere inside the cafe with locals coming and going, it had a really nice community feel to it. I would definitely return to Robyn’s nest!

Thought we'd give this a try again after having previously visited when it first opened a few years back (and were somewhat underwhelmed at the time.) The tea room is tastefully decorated but the seating area to the left as you approach the serving counter is cramped and off putting. Quite often the waitress brushed by rather too closely between our table and the walkway area due to another table being in rather close proximity to our right. I'm surprised that not one has ended up with a tray of food on their lap. I ordered the vegan breakfast which i thought was good. My other half ordered a cooked full English with poached eggs. I say poached, but they weren't. They had been overcooked to the point they were rock hard and inedible. The rest of the meal was nicely presented but a little bland in flavour. Coffee was OK. Not generous and not terribly hot so it was quickly gulped down. Service was OK although I do object to seeing staff eating in the serving area and handling cookies with bare hands, not a tong in site. I wish this place well but I do think a few improvements are needed.

My friend and I had just a toasted sandwich. A brie and chutney although it said cranberry on the menu. £10 was a lot for just a toasted sandwich. We were not asked if everything was ok or if we wanted cakes. The table next to us had to keep going to the counter to get service. After a poor service last time I have given this a second chance but bad service again, we will not return! Its a shame but the waitresses need to wake up and serve the customers or people are going to not return.

Lovely Tea Room. Visited with friends. We meet up every couple of months near to where we live. This time was my turn. I chose this Tea Room because of the menu on their website. I sent the link to my friends. We all agreed the menu looked good and was very reasonably priced. When we got there the menu was not at all the same as the one on their website and the prices varied considerably. Quite a limited menu compared to the one on the website. All this said, the food was good and the service and surroundings, lovely. Would like to see more variety on the menu though. This place also welcomes dogs. I’m hugely allergic to dogs plus I don’t agree dogs should be around food in an eatery but that’s my personal opinion. Note to management. Please update your very out of date menu on your website as it’s very misleading to your potential customers.

Sadly this place has gone massively downhill. Arrived on a Saturday around 1545, at least 45 minutes before closing. There was only one customer and we were made to feel unwelcome. Had two takeaway specialty coffees which were undrinkable (thrown away after a mouthful- just warm milk in essence), the cake was stale and the Cookie so crumbly it was impossible to eat. Worse, one of the young waitresses arrived with a tea cake for the other customer and was disparaging and rude. I suspect a victim of Saturday service but we shall not be returning.

I have been to Robyn’s nest quite a few times, it’s convenient as it’a local to me. It’s a lovely looking little tearoom, cute inside and a nice garden out the back. I wish the food and service was a bit better. We have waited over an hour before for sandwiches, which weren’t great and the staff didn’t seem to be bothered at the time that we waited so long. But I’ve had a salad another time which was delicious, and they seemed to have hired more staff at that point, I think there might be quite a high staff turnover but the younger staff always seem to be friendly, approachable and helpful. The cakes are ok. They are dog friendly.

We held a baby shower here last week in the private room at the back. It’s beautifully decorated & has a lovely atmosphere. The owner was lovely & nothing too much trouble. Afternoon tea was delicious & the cake we had made was perfect. We even ran over closing time & they waited for us, will definitely return.

Local café that my daughter and I tried for Saturday lunch for the first time today. Loved it. Staff super friendly and helpful and very happy to be sat next to the radiator on a cold day. We both had smoked salmon, avocado and cream cheese bagel. Served with home-made coleslaw which wasn’t too sweet nor too much dressing so well done on this. Crisps not the crispiest of crisps but wasn’t too bothered by having them anyway so all good. Decor of cafe cozy but modern and fresh and we loved the Harry Potter audio book playing in the toilet. It’s a family run cafe and we’ll be back and try the cakes next time too. Only thing is would have liked to have seen another veg/vegan option in sandwiches/bagels as not keen on a hash brown in a bagel but my daughter would have had it so I may be in minority.

Nice small breakfast/lunch cafe with nice outside space.we visited on a beautifully sunny lunch time and were shown to a seat in the garden and given a menu, but then we must have been forgotten. When 1 of the 2 staff realised some 15-20 minutes later she was very apologetic .However they had then run out of much of the menu at about 1.15 ( not late for lunch) but when our food did arrive it was very nice .Both staff were very pleasant but would only recommend if you are not in a hurry

Waited for 20 minutes for our order to be taken while the other customer next to our table who only arrived 10 minutes were already been asked twice! When the waitress saw us holding the order menu went to us and asked us if we have been served! Surely you should know if the menu was already taken it means order was done too! The coffee was bland and were not asked if we want any sugar with our hot drinks.Food was not even extraordinary. Will not recommend. It was not even a busy time.

What a find this fabulous tea room is. Between dropping my son to work and collecting my daughter from her theatre summer school I had an hour to kill. Pointless going home as already quarter of the way so googled a tea room nearby and Robyns Nest, Writtle popped up. Walked in, on my own, but was greeted so warmly any self confidence soon disappeared. Place was empty, or was it, soon discovered the beautiful gardens which is where all the customers were seeing as it was a warm, dry day in August (unfortunately rare this year it seems). The menu is amazing, on this occasion I only wanted a coffee and a piece of cake but I will be returning for a proper lunch and/or afternoon tea with my gal pals sometime very soon. I had a slice of Bakewell cake, which was totally delicious and I highly recommend it. Just what I needed, a little bit of 'me time' in the middle of being Mum Cabs. Another thing to note is that they take cash, which was refreshing as so many places now are turning to card only. (Had already scoffed half the cake before I thought about taking a picture, whoops)!

I got in contact with Robyn's nest to discuss a Harry Potter birthday cake for my other half's birthday, easy process, very friendly. We picked up the cake and it was the most amazing cake I've ever seen - so happy with it and so was my partner. It was absolutely delicious too. Admittedly I've never eaten in the cafe but now I can't wait to try! Thanks again Robyn's Nest x

I am not one to leave a negative review but I was left feeling so deflated yesterday I felt I had to. After a lovely visit to a children's play session that had been moved to Writtle, I thought I would treat my Dad and son to tea and cake. I have followed Robyns Nest on Instagram for while and wanted to visit - I am passionate about supporting local business. After telling my Dad how lovely it looked we made our way across the green. I tried to enter but the door appeared locked so I assumed as it is a small tea room staff had to allow customers in to ensure social distancing is practiced etc. So we stood and waited to be let in. The lady at the counter saw us, and some people at a table were looking at us for a while. No body came for quite some time and I started to feel uncomfortable. Eventually an elderly Gentleman approached, I thought he was exiting. He then let us in and explained it was a stiff door, not locked. So in we went. Looked around for a table. The man then asked "Are you Sheila?" I replied "no" he then said "Well, what can I do for you then??“ I was a bit taken a back and said" is it okay to come in for a cup of tea?“ I felt so unwelcome!!!! We managed to sit down. He said he would bring some menus over. We waited for ages and after some time decided to just leave and go elsewhere. I was so so disappointed to be made to feel so unwelcome on a quiet wednesday afternoon. I had been looking forward to treating my family and left feeling extremely deflated.

Wow....so it’s been awhile since we were here last. Last time it was ok... this time it was exceptional. A new chef in the kitchen and it’s a new experience! We had two pots of tea, I had the vegetarian breakfast bagel - halloumi, beautiful chive scrambled eggs, avocado with salad and vegetable crisps, my companion the homemade ham & mushroom quiche, with two pieces of homemade chocolate cake. £24. Best scrambled egg out of all the tea rooms locally! Absolutely beautiful. Socially distanced. Booking in advance. Table for two hours. Unrushed. Sanitiser on the table. Thank you and see you soon!

I ve been to this cafe several times in the past and always enjoyed my visits. This time however i was bitterly disappointed. The place looked as if they were half way through renovation, dirty, unkempt, tables undone, things scattered around. The waitress was lovely and service was quick. Breakfast was appaling: hair on one meal, sausages tiny and obviously cooked the day before (and i m not a fussy eater), wrong eggs served, half a tomato per dish. It would be fine if they werent charging under £10 for it. Noboday came to ask if eveeything was ok with our meal. I doubt i ll be going back any time soon. Shame because i like the place.

Visited this Tea Room with my young baby & friends after having an unfriendly welcome at The Secret Garden and decidiing to leave there. Here the ladies were lovely &friendly and more than happy to accomodate my pram. We were not easy customers with our food requests as one friend was on a 30 day detox & my other friend is very fussy with what she eats. However we got exactly what we wanted. Anna had decaffeinated tea with oat milk which was perfect for her detox & Kat got her cheese on toast with brown sauce and a glass of prosecco and i got the traditional cream tea. Happy all round!. Staff even helped me with the baby changer when i went to change my baby. Unfortunately I am not local but if you are this lovely tea room is worth a visit

Beautiful setting in Writtle Village. Arrived in time for breakfast with my partner. We had a sausage sandwich with mocha and a full english with a cappucino. I was so disappointed by my experience in this place. My friend and I had just completed a long bike ride and we’re looking forward to a coffee, sandwiches and perhaps cake. I was told by staff that they had stopped serving food even though it was 1430 on a lovely Saturday afternoon. The sign outside even said that they were open. They say that we should support local businesses. I don’t think I will bother with this establishment in the future. What a pity.

We were travelling to Clacton and having had enough of the M25 came off at Chelmsford and found ourselves in the delightful village of Writtle and parked opposite Robyn's Nest at lunchtime. And what a find it was, my husband and I both had a prawn sandwich which was packed full of prawns made with delicious granary bread, garnished with salad and some chips which were superb. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and our lunch set us up for the rest of our trip! Well worth a visit!

We had a lovely afternoon tea here today! The food was plentiful and very yummy - especially the quiche and the scones. Juice and water was included, not just tea, and they were offered regularly. The best part was that my one year old could wander around the garden and play. She was made very welcome, which made the afternoon stress free for me. They even washed her dinner mat for me! I'm hoping these are teething problems as this has the potential to be really good. Unfortunately due to some lazy staff and a ridiculous 'order at the counter' system it is currently spoiled. There's not enough room by the counter for people to stand and others to get past. We saw the young member of staff walk past uncleared tables several times without the initiative to pick up the plates.

Great food, but the service was DIRE. Took a while for the table to be cleared from the previous occupants. Ordered at the bar, so no worries there - and a lovely menu. But after 3 reminders and too long a wait, our food finally arrived - but no drinks. We had to remind them several times what drinks we had ordered, then gave up as we’d all finished our food. Sadly, we were not alone in asking for a refund - 2 other tables did while we were there.
