Tiptree at Bond Street in Chelmsford

I was very disappointed to be told that the small slice of cheesecake I had with my coffee cost me £6.75! This is extortionate and I won't be returning.

We both Had the quiches × 1 veggie 1 meat. It arrived with new potatoes and was very hot and extremely morrish. Although we were full we decided to have a cream scone to. Arrived warm with a choice of jams. We received excellent service from all three members of staff we will be back .

Always enjoy the yummy cakes here. Sometimes it's a challenge to find a table. Staff are usually helpful. 👍

We came in at 3:15pm, the place was empty. The lady greeting us at the door, first thing she did was looking at her watch. We asked for the high tea, and was told the kitchen closes at 3:30pm?! So that would not be possible. Then she told us the place, closes at 4:00pm. To be fair she offered us a sandwich, scones or a cake. But the way she kept looking at her watch, made us leave, taking our money with us!

Lunch, good service, and a good selection of things available.

Nice staff but really bad service. It took over half an hour to bring a bottle of apple juice, and nearly an hour for the food which was two paninis and a slice of cake. Food was decent but not worth a wait like that.

As the management don't respond to any reviews it makes me wonder if it's worth commenting? Reason for 1 star is that whilst attempting to go here, my group found they close at 4pm. I was very surprised and found it rather early. So there loss was somewhere else's gain that was still open for business.

Stopped there for lunch. Modern and clean inside. Outside seating too. Usual Tiptree menu. Sandwiches, panninies, toasties, jacket potatoes, ceiche, cream teas. Jams, preserves and related gifts available too.

Good coffee at reasonable prices

Good place for a city centre cuppa. Offers some gluten free cakes too, which is good - better than Costa or Cafe Nero, for instance. Bit cheeky for their payment system to ask you for a tip though, given that its really only a counter serviced.

Two teas and two cakes £19.50. If the cakes had had prices on I wouldn't have bought them. Nearly £8 a cake. The cake was nice but I have had a lot cheaper and nicer in London. I'll buy tea there again but for cake - I'll be going elsewhere.

Fist class place to eat while out in town shopping.

Nice staff, but even though they were closing in 30 mins, it wasn't great that they were clearing up for the end of the day round us, made us feel rushed, I'm sure they didn't mean to have that affect on our experience

Have never had a bad meal at any of the Tiptree tearooms. Chelmsford Tiptree tearoom really good. Good food, staff, and atmosphere can highly recommend.

Not enough bacon (tight on the portion of bacon in the sandwich which was not toasted It costa £5ish and the bacon was very salty and fatty If you go to preta manager you get 3/4 slices of bacon in a hot roll for similar price Breakfast (traditional) was pretty good but a bit cold I will still return as it was a weekend visit with Xmas Mania but go in the week next time to see if it has improved regarding the bacon sandwich They do a good hot chocolate which I will return to enjoy Thanks for accommodating your Xmas busy time of the Year

A really nice place for a drink and a bite to eat.

This was my first time in this place so I was keen to find out what what they had to offer. I chose the tuna mayonnaise sandwich which was Very enjoyable and had a cup of tea with it. The place is well set out and you can buy from a wide range of tiptree products. The staff are friendly and efficient. I will try to visit this place again and again when I come to Chelmsford.

No table service so, alone, selected my table and then got up to order (as instructed). Meanwhile, someone else took my table. This cafe feels noisy, tables crowded and service impersonal. Food is ok. More like an airport waiting area than a cute cafe. Whole thing has potential to be a lot better.

Honestly coming to this café was an absolutely wonderful experience. From the aesthetic to the gorgeous cakes (the cakes are miles better than your bog-standard Costa/Starbucks ones...the carrot cake is the best I've ever had) I can't fault this establishment. The iced vanilla latte was a generous portion size and a refreshing respite on a hot summer's day and the servers were so friendly and accommodating. Tiptree is definitely going to be a staple place to stop by when meeting up with friends.

Had a lovely cold apple juice in there with a piece of carrot cake. It was so peaceful and relaxing in there. You can buy Tiptree gifts in there as well . The staff are very pleasant and helpful you out at every possible point. There are plenty of seats and they have a upstairs you can eat and drink in. They also have a lift. I will be going back there again . I recommend this as you can shop and eat .

We wanted tea and sandwiches. The tea arrived first, the sandwiches 20 minutes later. The bread was on the verge of being stale, there was barely any mayonnaise on the egg mayonnaise sandwich nor was there any salt. This is my second poor experience here, there won’t be a third.

Loved the shop, the product and the good but the service was poor such a shame. I ordered my food and it was forgotten when I went up and asked, as my husband was just finishing his food, the server said oh! No apology. Then waited again for my gluten free scone to arrive.

Shocked at the poor quality and cost. Cake prices are not displayed and for good reason - small slice of cake is £6! I was also given a stained cup. The service is by late teenagers and could have been better. Felt a bit like I was in McDonalds!

Just had a coffee and slice of peach & almond tart. The Americano was a touch on the bitter side and the tart was pretty dry. Coffee wasn’t badly priced, but the tart for a slice as small as it was I found massively overpriced (£5.95). They also don’t have any visible pricing on their cakes, and I’m pretty sure that’s why. If you go, skip the cake and go for a breakfast item as they’re similarly priced.

Tiptree very kindly accommodated our bridal shower this weekend. Fantastic communication, cake and bubbles! Very friendly, helpful staff - I would definitely recommend. Thanks Tiptree!

The food was fine but nothing apart from vegan scones if you are on an allergy diet (I am for my baby). Server a bit rude to my mum who is in her 70s because she changed her mind at the till.

Lovely tea room, have eaten here a few times and it's always very good. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

Great location , very close to shopping centre, easy parking as well. We had hot chocolate , cake and sandwiches, all average. My friend had scones that she found a bit chewy. It’s ok if one is interested in buying jams and honey, they have a big selection.

Nicely set out and very clean. The service is courteous, friendly and swift. The food is excellent nicely presented, fresh and a good plateful for your money. Reason for only three stars , the coffee is dreadful.

We had afternoon tea here and it was excellent. The staff were friendly, the tea and coffee was very nice and the food was delicious. Warm fresh scones, full sized proper toasted or non-toasted sandwiches of your choice and full sized cakes which we couldn't finish so was given a box to take home. Also unlimited drinks all for a great price. We are excited to return here in the future.

Won't go back again. I have been before and it was the same this time as before. Slow, non attentive service, food not brilliant. Won't recommend it and won't go back!

Dreadful. Won’t be visiting again. Went for lunch yesterday with my husband. Got told to find our own table instead of being seated by the staff. When we did seat ourselves we were ignored for ten minutes and we weren’t given menus. Food is okay ver priced for what it is. Absolutely no excuse for poor service as there is plenty of staff. Either they’re not bothered or just not observant

Nice Cream Tea choices. Service was quite slow - waited nearly 10 minutes for a waitress. Eventually, I went up to the waitress at reception and asked could we place an order. Lacks some atmosphere - the place is lovely and clean but very clinical in appearance - sitting not particularly comfortable either!

This is a good-looking two-storey cafe (the ground floor being the more atmospheric of the two), decorated in a simple, modern style. The menu features plenty of attractive savoury and sweet options: sandwiches including toasties, jacket potatoes, cakes and cream teas. There’s also a breakfast menu, available until 11. We sought a light lunch on a Saturday. Our party of four was directed upstairs. It wasn’t particularly busy but it took over FORTY MINUTES before we received a single drink or crumb of food! Empty tables went uncleared throughout this period. We enjoyed our hot drinks - the tea was clearly of high quality, for example - and all the food, although slices of Bakewell tart were a tad dry and, ironically for the cafe of a jam manufacturer, needed more jam! This place really needs to sort out its service. We allowed over an hour for our snack lunch yet ending up running to catch our train.

Went for lunch here whilst out shopping in Chelmsford. I had a lovely cream tea with two really large scones, it was delicious. They do some lovely sandwiches, and a lot more. A really nice place to have lunch.

I had my daughters hen day there yesterday, Saturday 16th July. The whole afternoon was perfect, staff attentive, food fabulous, reasonably priced and lovely atmosphere. Thank you tiprees Chelmsford.

Visited this place twice last week. Such a nice place to meet friends for coffee etc. Nice to be able to sit outside and people watch and chat. My friend and I had latte coffees and I had some champagne and strawberry cheesecake 😋.

Traditional afternoon tea at any time of day! Welcoming staff. Crumbly scones. Tea. Good range of jams, lemon curd, marmalade and gift sets. A great place to sit indoors or outside and watch Bond Street shoppers stroll by.

The prices are very convenient, a nice place. The staff are friendly and relevant. The place is clean. Before I went to the cafe, I looked at the pictures, I liked the presentations with red cup sets, but when I went to the cafe, I saw that white cup sets were used. I would have liked it better if it was a red cup.

I had my hen do afternoon tea here (23 people) and the service and food was absolutely superb. They were brilliant through the planning and the day, thank you all so much.

The halloumi sandwich at over £8 was a disaster. The bread was second rate white sliced and was one better than cardboard. The entire experience was a disappointment. I won't go again. Service was good and friendly.

Food is good as always, quality. Lot to improve on service tho. I’d prefer to take away. Coffee is machine made, always too hot and you can’t taste the bean. All points goes on the food, fair enough.

This is a really lovely place to get coffee or lunch in Chelmsford. The cakes are delicious but toasted sandwiches with Tiptree relish are even better! The service is fantastic too. Our waitress was cheerful and made us feel really welcome.

My friend and I treating ourselves to coffee and cake at the Tiptree tea rooms, Bond Street, Chelmsford. Disappointingly, the Victoria sponge cake that we chose was very dry/stale. I mentioned this to the waitress who advised that it was fresh that day. I don't think we will visit again, as customer service wasn't as I would have expected.

Had such good scones and jams along with such scrumptious cheesecakes and lemon cake! Such fabulous and polite staff who gave it their all and were also super friendly to us. The afternoon tea would be one of the best ones I ever tasted, but I am only 8 years old! On the other side I would say it is pricey for an afternoon tea. I would strongly recommend it. Went mid- morning so had our choice of table and service was guick

Tiptree at bond Street is a gorgeous place to visit on the ground floor. It is vibrant and the walls adorned with their amazing products. Unfortunately, once upstairs it looses its charm. We visited for afternoon tea and were seated promptly. What I love most about the afternoon tea here is that you can choose which sandwich you would like. Many a time I've left sandwiches because they were not ones that I like. This is great for reducing food waste. The scone was perfect and warm 🥰 My afternoon tea was gluten free and the cakes offered were typical and nothing exciting. Carrot cake and what seemed to be a shop brought cherry bakewell. It completely lacked imagination and any effort! My daughter had a gorgeous slice of chocolate orange cake and banoffee tart which left me feeling slightly envious with my bland offerings. I would visit again for just the scones but would not recommend the full afternoon tea for anyone gluten free. I have been to several local venues which offer much nicer ones!

Very limited lunch time menu jacket potato and beans ok but only one left at 1pm, rest of family had quiche very bland, tasteless according to my wife,coleslaw very heavy on mayo and light on cabbage and onion. I would not visit a Wilkins tearoom again for lunch but would for scones etc. Such a shame the original tearoom in Tiptree and the one at Heybridge lock were excellent when they first opened. Very expensive for average fare.

Called for a mid morning coffee. The drinks were fine and staff friendly. However, although there is a tea room upstairs we used the seating in the shop area as we only wanted a drink. On reflection this was a mistake as didn't feel covid safe due to the number of shoppers passing through. Would be better if they reduced the number of seats in this area. Disappointing. Had been excited to try this. Took a friend. As vegan a booking accepted but they don't usually. When I asked about vegan options I was told I can make suggestions of what I'd like as they dont have any. So I called back after confirming date my friend avail and this the staff made a note of my booking but didn't ask me about vegan options I wanted, so I said simple things like hummus, falafel, avocado. Lady said they do these so I said I don't mind their vegan option but was told to make suggestions. Told for pastries they have flapjack and a cake. Anyway on the day they didn't seem aware of my booking. But they had vegan option of avocado and chutney on the day. I assumed this was 2 sandwiches but was one. The only option too. I felt in this day and age that was limited and felt misguided by phone calls. When food came it was below my expectations but perhaps that's my fault. Not finger sandwiches, not sophisticated. Just one flavour chopped in quarters. The vegan cake was nice and moist but no flap jack like told on the day and before, just like a tiffin square which felt like it was from a multi pack. Scone was OK but staff not generous only gave one vegan spread or vegan cream despite asking for both. Staff got my friends veggie option wrong but felt like we were wrong for them not understanding the order they had written. Despite that with a friend, had a nice time chatting away. Liked my iced coffee and liked the recommendations made by staff on my drink. I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone. We came from chafford hundred and felt like I was more in a canteen or IKEA setting frim.the quality of food and service. Not what I was hoping for from Tiptree. Was guided to a 2 seater table yet other groups of 2 allowed to sit at a table for 4, so did ask to move. Not what I expect from an afternoon tea, not in Chelmsford and not from a recognised company like tip tree. Shame as had it been good would've have returned with family and other friends. Luckily not pricey so maybe I should have looked at that 1st and then known. Other clients seemed happy so think not just for me and what I am used to.

We went and and was seated and after 20 minutes and it was not busy at this time,asked if they could take the order,10 minutes later and it started to get busy the young girl went over and took an order from someone who only just been seated for 5 minutes, so sadly we left and inform staff that we was not happy, we had a baby of 15 months with our party, was very disappointed as we have used other sites before and been very happy with all.

Due to covid had not visited for 2 years. Very disappointed cheap food at high prices in comparison to previous visits. "Butchers ham" looked like it was from a supermarket prepack - thin and tasteless. It could easily have been a prepacked ham sandwich from any supearket. Quiche Lorraine was watery with little bacon or cheese. I hope it improves and returns to previous standards.

We had traditional eanglish breakfast tea with scones and all 4 of us enjoyed it. Lovely big scones, choice of tea, quality jam and milk. We have been missing sugar, not that we needed but I would expect it with a tea. Very nicely decorated for Halloween. Do have inside and outside sitting area. We have been served very quickly. Surrounding have been clean, mask still required inside. Friendly customer service.

You cant fault the name and reputation of tiptree jam, lemon meringue cake has to be ate with a cup of tea yum. Staff really friendly and welcoming xx

Hi took the wife shopping for an anniversary present and stopped off at the tea room We was ignored for five mins then served with a bit of Victoria sponge that was stale dried up and not eatable Won’t be going there again

We have visited this tea rooms on several occasions and always had a very happy with food etc. Unfortunately having visited today the service was still very good but the food was very disappointing. My jacket potato had a massive black bit at one end and I had to return my pot of tea as no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it anything more than week and willing and I really don't like strong tea. Very Disappointing

I've been to other Tiptree tea rooms and the coffee has tasted better. It also had a shot of caramel which I couldn't taste. The gluten free scone was ok, but a bit small and the texture wasn't as nice compared to other gluten free scones I've had before. Jam and cream is always nice though. My daughter enjoyed her cake and hot chocolate. And my wife enjoyed her standard scone. Staff were friendly and served us well.
