Wonderful welcome from a lass on her first shift. Well done. Burger and rosemary fries - excellent. The mushroom and cheese tart was poor, little filling and what was present was just a blob. The baby salad potatoes were new potatoes cut into smaller pieces whilst the heritage carrots were overcooked. This over cooking would have been the reason why we waited 45 minutes for the meals to arrive.
The male waiter asked if all was well and we responded in an equivocal manner. No enquiry made regarding our unenthusiastic response.
We will not be back but wish the new start waitress well.
We ate at The Castle Inn with my daughter who is coeliac. We always check in advance that places understand that cross contamination is the danger - cooking in a kitchen where there has been gluten on a surface or in a shared container. For coeliacs for example, you cannot cook chips in fat that has had any glutened batter in it. You have to have fresh fat in a cleaned fryer.
We have discovered that many high end restaurants like The Ivy don't manage to offer this so it was so heartening that The Castle was meticulous about her needs. When the menu didn't offer an option she could pick, they found something different, making her cheesy mashed potato from scratch. It was delicious and we are so grateful for their kindness. We shall definitely eat here again when we're in the area.
Tucked away on a bustling street, this charming spot is the ultimate retreat for friends looking to sip on rich coffee or soothing tea, indulge in mouthwatering cakes, and engage in lively conversations without the overwhelming noise. It’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy each other’s company, making it a go-to destination for those seeking a cozy escape amidst the town's hustle and bustle. Whether you're catching up or simply enjoying the moment, this café has the perfect vibe!
Is it a pub? Is it an Indian? It's both! Highly recommend visiting this fabulous cross-over joint. The refined Indian cuisine is GREAT (bar the fancy but curiously-textured poppadoms) and there are some pub-style options for the spice-averse).
On a buzzing Saturday evening, the service was still impeccable: Front of house went above and beyond (10 stars) to get us a table for our foursome that included someone with mobility issues. Thanks to Sunny and the team.
We tried the corn frittata, Turkish egg, cinnamon bun, Latte with caramel syrup.
Cardamom buns were not as exciting as most of the other selections.
Quite a nice place with good tasting food. Too bad its opening times are so restrictive.
NEVER, EVER judge a book by its cover.
The number of cars parked convinced us to go in, as the outside looked "tired".
Boy, we were pleased? You betcha.
I had egg mayo and cress on fresh hand-cut bloomer, with hand cut cheesy chips. I rate the food 10/10.
My partner had Triple chocolate cake, and really enjoyed it.
The service was exactly the right touch, with local folk enjoying their food too.
Follow the brown "teashop" signs, don't just go to the ones on the A17, the very slight detour north from the roundabout is so worth it.
