The old grocery espresso bar in Northampton

Great coffee, sausage rolls are ace. Whenever I’m in the area I make a point of buying lunch or breakfast. The area was crying out for this.

This is a quaint coffee shop that even though it was super busy, I didn't have to wait long. It's popular with people finishing park run and then grabbing a coffee. The people working there were really nice and there were a few tables outside to sit at

Stopping off at this café was truly a fantastic experience. Not only did they serve delicious coffee and sandwiches, but the atmosphere was unlike any other place I've been to. The quirky décor, filled with retro items, added a unique touch to the overall ambiance. As I sipped my coffee, I couldn't help but tap my foot along to the good music playing in the background. The staff were also incredibly friendly and provided excellent service, making my stop even more enjoyable. What's more, this place even had a downstairs area, adding another dimension to its already charming appeal. I can't wait to come back and experience this hidden gem again.

Wow just wow Love the vibe in here so amazing A really positive energy and welcome from staff I’m a huge hot chocolate fan and unfortunately most places have just one standard option and that’s it! This place has a choice of 5 delicious hot chocolate options!! My only question to myself is why haven’t I been here sooner

I love the wide range and variety of hot drinks for someone like myself who doesn’t drink coffee, wether it be turmeric, beetroot latte, chai latte, different hot chocolates and white chocolates to choose from oh and smoothies, iced drinks. Art, music and community is at the core. I walk in and feel transported to Soho/Shoreditch

This review is long overdue I was in the area so I decided to give The Old Grocery a go. It was a warm summers day and to my surprise they make smoothies so I decided to get a green one and it was just what I needed, so tasty! This one of the coolest coffee shops around, give it a try and you won’t be disappointed.

Good food but expensive, has improved a lot since a couple of years ago. Drinks are good, good hot chocolate selection but can be a bit weak for my taste.

Went for breakfast with my daughter. Contents (eggs / bacon) were ok but bread was stale. Coffee (black Americano) was VERY weak for my taste. Downstairs room was quite cold. Pity because ambiance was very pleasant.

Great place for good coffee and great hot chocolate. Dog friendly outside only, which is the only shame as the colder wet months draw in.

Very cozy and welcoming little coffee shop with some seating inside and a few chairs outside to enjoy your morning coffee in the sun.

You must come here and have one of their home made sausage rolls. It will not disappoint and it’s the best I’ve had! The coffees are also perfect using locally roasted coffee beans but the service is really where they shine.

Had lunch here as my usual place Goodloaf was closed for week. Had thought it might give me another option for lunch but won’t be back. Coffee was lukewarm beans on toast was ok except two slices of toast with a few beans was served on a side plate not a normal sized plate which made it very difficult to eat without it spilling onto the floor!!!!

Fabulous coffee, cakes, atmosphere! We live in Bedford but often visit Northampton and always pop in to The Old Grocery as well. Friendly, buzzy and love the Victorian houses in Colwyn Road to look at while outside having coffee! Well done guys😀

Love this little place. The coffee is to die for. The girls so lovely and friendly. And the atmosphere is so chill and its easy to unwind. Good little community hub as I always see someone I know. The food as well is light and veggie friendly I recommend the vegan chocolate slices they are sublime 👌

I stumbled across this cafe on a walk with a friend through racecourse, and it has now become my favourite coffee shop. They offer milk alternatives- my go to is a vanilla oat iced latte and it’s always so so good! the best iced latte, especially since it’s an independent <3

The best coffee places in Northampton are Magee Street Bakery, Saints and best of all Yellow Bourbon. The Old Grocery is not consistent enough to compete but when you get a good coffee, it is very good. We took friends for breakfast on Sunday and it was nearly embarrassing. I had to repeat our order over and over again before they got it right, and it was a simple order, then when the food arrived it was all wrong. Ketchup in all four sandwiches when it had been asked for on the side and the toasted sandwich wasn't toasted. The server offered to change them but the waste was so much we couldn't bring ourselves to do that. No money off was offered. The actual sandwiches were well cooked and very nice - at least three people didn't want ketchup though. The girl with the dark hair was very good and trying hard. The staff change all the time and that would pretty obviously affect the quality. All the other good coffee places have the same staff all the time.

Everyone is super cheerful and though dogs aren't allowed in they have set up stations for them to have water and be tethered safely. Big filled sandwiches are a win.

Had the most delicious mocha and vegan sausage roll to go!! the coolest vibe ever, and even provided me with water and biscuits for my pup as we had to be outside. met lovely people and staff on a cosy autumn day. defo coming again !!!!! thank you!!!

Deeply disappointed. Good coffee and tea, but won’t be able to enjoy it because of the policy of this business. Not dog friendly, which nowadays is pretty bizarre, especially when your coffee shop is located next to a park area. And even though I was ok to have my drink outside, they wouldn’t let me to have it in a real cup. Only takeaway cups outside. Dear owners, when you are serving speciality coffee and tea, offering to drink it out of a paper cup feels like a crime. If I want takeaway, I’ll go to McDonald’s. Won’t come again.

The best tasting coffee in Northampton is in the ‘hood. This is another business I would love to see around the corner from where I live. An eclectic, vibrant coffee shop packed with youthful, happy staff and creative socialites. It is abuzz with locals on a Saturday morning. Take a look around when you get inside, there is so much art work on display, it’s difficult to focus. The owner is definitely a movie buff. Downstairs, there may be no windows, but the space is brightly lit, the modern art exhibited is bright and creative. Upstairs it is coffee central. You can even buy coffee beans here if you do wish. I haven’t even got on to the best part. The Old Grocery delivers off-the-charts tasting coffee. I love notes of liquorice and that is exactly what is delivered in each cup of their house blend. It is some of the best tasting coffee I’ve ever had. A visit to Northampton is not complete without a visit to Magee Bakery and The Old Grocery.

Lovely artisan coffee house off the beaten track and ideally set 2 mins off the Northampton racecourse access to Colwyn Road. Great Coffee, cakes incl. vegan options and plenty of cafe fare. Ideal to watch the world go by with a cappuccino. 👍🏼☕🍰🍪🥖

Great independent coffee shop, had a nice morning walk around the racecourse, then called into the old grocery expresso bar. Really good coffee, friendly staff, and best pano chocolate we've had. We had our dog with us so sat outside but had the coffee brought to us and enjoyed chatting to other customers waiting for their orders, lovely atmosphere , will be back soon .

Super chouette petit café qui m'a été conseillé par un ami de la ville. Le brownie que j'ai pris en plus de mon délicieux cappuccino était, lui aussi, délicieux. Le café est un peu en dehors du centre-ville mais la petite marche (5 minutes) pour y aller en vaut vraiment la peine !

Very very good. I've had iced vanilla latte's like 3 times and their coffee has such a complex delicious taste, none of that burned taste 🥰 unique flavour and yummy, better than Starbucks which I always buy from. Also get on Deliveroo please 😅 My only wish is that they did 20 ounce takeaway cups 🌱

Sausage and bacon sandwiches on sourdough with the most outstanding flat white coffee. Everything was quality, rich, flavoursome and worth every penny.

Great little cafe with superb cakes, teas and coffees. Friendly staff always happy to please. Its very tiny with only pavement for outdoor space, maybe small tables would be permitted? I would like to see fresh fruit and granola offered on breakfast menu but I know they can't carry too much fresh produce in case of wastage.

I thought I'd tasted the best coffee in Northampton till I came here. If you could serve me a better flat white than this one. I'd die from pleasure. Their sausage rolls are second to none. If you're partial, give these a try. You'll never look back. Everything you'll eat and drink here is well considered and a taste sensation. Great staff, great vibe! Eat in or take out, this place is truly a gem!

First visit to the Old Grocery meeting a friend for coffee and a catch up. Sat outside due to Covid restrictions. Great service, very friendly and helpful staff. Coffee was very good as was the bakewell slice! All round excellent experience and looking forward to returning when we are opened up again. Highly recommended.
