The Skylark Bakery in Leicester

We stumbled across this place & we were pleasantly surprised. Lovely retro decor, relaxed atmosphere, excellent coffee and hot chocolate (my partner said best hot chocolate he’s had) and the cakes looked incredible and homemade although we didn’t try one. Pricing was reasonable as-well. I only wish we lived closer to use this please regularly.

Lovely scones! 10/10 buttery and crumbly and delicious. Fresh and warm from the oven. Sweet little bakery. Cosy inside. Nice staff. Would return again for those scones!

Latte and Mocha were both very nice. The selection of items to eat seemed limited (based on display boards), but there might actually be a menu with more items available somewhere (based on other Google map reviewers listing items I wasn't aware of)

Really nice bakery with delicious freshly baked goods. So good to order some gluten free baking and it not be a brownie or lemon polenta cake. I picked up a couple of gluten free chocolate birthday cake slices and they were fantastic. I ate one the day after I bought it and it was still so fresh. Got a regular blondie and brown butter cookie for family and they loved them too, thank you

Brillant café! I’ve been there a few times already for both dine-in and takeaway. The cupcakes and coffee are always on point, especially the black bottom one. I like that they have high and low tables. There are mini corners, ideal for customers, like me, who want to have a cozy space to read or write a diary over a drink or nice food. The interior is just too cute! Definitely need to check it out if you haven’t so. Always lovely service!

We got a few to try over a coffee, and took home some beignets to try with the family too 😋 It's a lovely place to hang out, however it can get pretty busy at times too! I took my mum & dad for afternoon tea for Mother’s Day & we were sadly left disappointed with the experience. There didn't seem to be any heating on & so we were cold the whole time we were there. We found that the tea cups were dirty (so we ordered coffee so we didn't have to drink from those cups), and the food was very mediocre in both flavour & appearance. It was such a shame as we'd been there for afternoon tea before about two years ago (on a Saturday) & it was so nice and we really enjoyed our experience then. We understand how busy it was, due to Mother’s Day, but unfortunately we didn’t think it was worth the money.

This bakery, it’s staff and their baked goods are amazing. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone, even if it means travelling a bit to get there!

Lovely cute little bakery/cafe situated in the popular Clarendon park area. There is limited seating but the place has a peaceful atmosphere. We came here for lunch, both sweetcorn fritters and turkish eggs were delicious! Slightly longer wait times than usual for the food to be ready but happy to wait as everything’s freshly made. Pleasant experience!

This is an awesome place. Visited for the first time and blown away with the cakes!! If you haven't been you're missing out, big time.

Great brunch and coffee, took 2 scones to take home which were lovely too! However it was a very cold day and the staff kept the front door open which seemed odd as there was a huge draft which made our food cool down very fast.

Delicious and different brunch offerings. We had the Turkish Eggs and the sweetcorn fritters. Both really tasty, although an extra slice of toast to mop up the gorgeous garlicky yoghurt would have been even better. Really fragrant Earl Grey tea. Service was very slow, even though the café wasn't busy, hence dropping a star. Will definitely be back, as want to try more from the menu.

We tried the corn frittata, Turkish egg, cinnamon bun, Latte with caramel syrup. Quite a nice place with good tasting food. Too bad its opening times are so restrictive.

Ordered the Turkish eggs and they were DIVINE, I am so obsessed. Delicious brunch bagel, and yummy coffee too. We came here from recommendation and were not disappointed, such a sweet spot and lovely staff, will definitely be returning !! 🔆🔆

Tried afternoon tea here for the first time and there were a nice selection of sweet treats. As part of the afternoon we were informed we were entitled to unlimited tea or coffee. I would say it would be better if we were entitled to any hot drink of our choice rather limiting the choice to only a tea or coffee. I would also add I expected that we would have been asked of our preferred choice of cupcakes but instead we were not asked of our choice. Overall the service was good.

One of my favorite spots in leicester! The food is amazing, with very good ingredients, their sweets are delightful and their coffee is simply exquisite. The service is always so nice and helpful and the atmosphere is so peaceful. I normally order their avocado toast which is so mouthwatering but my friends have also ordered the brunch bagel or the Turkish eggs and their cupcakes which were all a 10/10! Could not recommend more!!

We were delighted to enjoy a relaxed and very pleasant afternoon tea at the Skylark today. The service was excellent, the environment was cosy and comfortable, and the food was fabulous. Happy to say, too much to eat and had to ask for take-home boxes. The butties were soft and fresh and tasty, and the scones and cakes were divine! Endless tea too! Thank you Skylark. Really nice afternoon tea on a Sunday! The staff was very friendly and the cupcakes and scones in particular were delicious. The black bottom cupcake was perfect.

My friend and I enjoyed an afternoon tea at Skylark @ £20 per head, which was very reasonable. There was plenty of tea, sandwiches and scones which 1were delicious. We were so full up we took our cakes home. We look forward to going back.

We are not local to Leicester and were looking for somewhere to have a drink and a snack. We are not vegetarian or vegan but we passed the bakery and it looked so inviting we decided to drop in for a drink. They had a good range of teas . The tea was leaves and served in a pot. The buns looked delicious as we were debating they offered the lunch menu. On looking at the lunch selection it was so good we chose sweetcorn fritters with halloumi and avocado bagel. They were very accommodating when advised of allergies. Both dishes were both delicious. Unfortunately no room for a bun.

Cosy, nicely decorated, lush, tasty and interesting dishes... a winning combination! I had the breakfast bowl and was more than happy with the portion size, as well as presentation and taste. Go and try it! You won't regret it. Oh, and the hand cream in the restroom is amazing!!

This was my first visit to The Skylark Bakery. I will be going back. The scone with a pot of tea were perfect. It was also quiet, which is a plus. I particularly appreciated a proper china cup, saucer and plate!

Layer cakes are not as pictured on their Web site. They are not tall and slender but short and dumpy. The cream toppings are icing sugar with butter/margarine (unable to tell) and gritty. Specific requests were not honoured- you can't see that until you have cut the cake! This is a 'Buyer be aware situation' warning. Sponge was tasty and guests were not aware that this wasn't the cake I ordered and they were impressed and satisfied with the cake that I was given. I did not share my complaints with the guests.

A comforting and cosy bakery that served us above and beyond expectations! Every small detail and thought has been carefully put to this lovely place in so many aspects; the leisurely pace of service but not slacking in the slightest and were attentive, extra hot water to refill your pot of tea (I regret not taking a bag of loose leaf the English breakfast), the interior giving a feeling of home and cleanliness was 10/10! Their branding also had a lot of personality and so so cute ! ;) We had afternoon tea and it was exquisite✨ the scones were the highlight for me, fluffy, perfect density and huge! It was a delight making our way through the different layers and definitely got us full, and actually had to take some home. Not to mention their baked goods are unbeatable. Thank you so much for having us, and we'll be back very soon :)

Honestly the best bakery in Leicester. If you're vegan get yourself here asap. they have a massive menu and every single thing they do is amazing! Wendy has been gracious enough to do our wedding cake and we couldn't be happier their prices are amazing, especially considering the quality.

Had a lovely birthday 🎂 treat here last week.. afternoon tea sandwiches scone with little pots cream and jam. 3 different cakes my god were lovely. And staff were very nice.

Stopped in for a quick coffee after buying some running shoes down the road. Never been before. Excellent cappuccino - perfect temperature, smooth foam, delicious coffee, and the right amount of chocolate. Lovely setting and polite staff.

This is probably a great bakery, however, our experience was tainted as the afternoon tea that was booked did not cater for everyone even though we gave our dietary requirements. The replacement for it was nice, but was not afternoon tea. The scones and cakes were great, however the cream was runny not thick or clotted. We were asked to pick a cup cake each, however, only two choices for vegan and one ran out. Staff were polite, but were busy and in the end we made do with one pot of tea. The manager apologised for the mistake with dietary requirements, however, it did ruin the whole experience.

VERY DISAPPOINTED (5 visits/orders) Taste - Gone downhill Wait times- Quite long even when not busy. Price -TOP END/Overpriced for what you get. There was once a time I could convince myself that the high prices and questionable service was worth paying for the good taste. However, if the last 4 orders are anything to go by it really isn't. Either they've changed kitchen staff or cheapened the ingredients but one thing is for sure, the quality of the products just hasn't been there for a while. I hate writing such a review, but I'm afraid there is only so much disappointment one can take. PS Your staff range from really nice happy people, to quite arrogant with a superiority complex. Not a good vibe to give off to customers.

I ordered a cake for my son's birthday at short notice (due to another Bakery messing me around) through Wendy at Skylark Bakery and I am so happy that I did! My wife and I ordered a themed cake through her website, which was really easy to do. She exceeded our expectations with the presentation of the cake and the taste of the cake was amazing! My little boy loved the cake and the whole family polished the cake off. Genuinely one of the best cakes I have had for a very long time and the pictures of the cakes she has on her website does not do it justice until you see it for real. Highly, highly recommend it to try it for yourself.... So glad we have found this hidden gem as our go to place for treats!

I have been to Skylark on a number of occasions and had to try the afternoon tea... it's all presented so well with beautiful china, and the afternoon twa stands are mouthwatering. The portions for the price are such good value and the food is fresh and delicious. We had excellent service from the staff. It was a real treat and a lovely way to catch up with my friends. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Extortionate prices do not justify extremely mediocre, flavourless bakes. It's a real shame and won't be returning.

The team from skylark were so helpful and accommodating when ordering a wedding cake and an assortment of cupcakes for my wedding. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was taken care of, I was kept informed and updated throughout the whole process and left me with one less thing to worry about regarding wedding planning. Can’t praise skylark enough!

Such a beautiful place with amazing service and amazing afternoon tea! Everything was perfect from the coffee to the cake to the portions! Will definitely be coming here again! Thank you to waiters and waitresses they were so polite and helpful!

I enquired about Afternoon Tea for my wife’s 40th Birthday. I cannot recommend this Bakery enough. Excellent service, lovely food and extremely generous portions. Bakery also offered a delivery service. Look forward to visiting again

Visited for beforenoon tea. Absolutely fantastic.

I used to live around the corner to Skylark and have been visiting since they first opened. The quality of their cakes are second to none and I love the range of flavours on offer (always varies and usually includes vegan and gluten free options) My wife and I enjoy the quality of the baking so much that Wendy made our wedding cake too and she was very thorough and helped us immensely in the design and flavours for each tier. In addition we thoroughly enjoy their savoury offerings and their coffee is delicious too.

Found this cafe one day when looking for a place to lunch with my friend.. we loved everything about it and accidentally left with a box of amazing cupcakes.. After a second trip yesterday, I’m planning on booking for friends to have afternoon tea.. The food is exceptionally fresh as home baked and super tasty.. would very highly recommend a visit.. I love it!!

Went here for the first time on Saturday for afternoon tea for a friend's birthday and the staff were brilliant! I called to ask about parking and my friend booked a table for 6 of us through Instagram and it was so simple. We got there early to surprise a friend and the staff set up a table as soon as we got there and offered us a drink while we were waiting which was lovely. They have vegan and dairy free options for food and milk which was brilliant for our group because we had one vegan afternoon tea and one who had soya milk so they cater for everyone. They also had vegan, gluten free and dairy free cupcakes so they cater for all food allergies. Afternoon tea was £15 each for lots of food! You get English breakfast tea included as well as: sandwiches, scones, brownie, Aero cheesecake/tiffin and a cupcake of your choice from the bar at the front. There's something for everyone here! Lovely setting for lovely food. Would love to go back again when I'm next in Leicester!

Me and my partner go here as often as our waistlines allow, the cupcakes are to die for and we have taken as many people as we can to the afternoon tea, it is a truly a homely bakery, the staff are super friendly and it is just terrific, I cannot speak too highly of this establishment, it's a true gem

I didn’t notice that their sign said they were closing early, after I accidentally fumbled with the door. I felt so bad and so embarrassed, and started to walk away, apologizing profusely- they invited me in with smiles and some of the warmest welcomes I’ve ever received, and let me purchase a cake for my friend from the back. Their kindness is just as good as their baked goods!! So excited to go back (during the correct times this time!)!

Had afternoon tea here today. It was a homely vibe with beautifully presented food generous portions and above all was absolutely delicious!

Lovely place with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Food is really tasty and portions are generous. I would recommend that you book in advance if you're going at the weekend as the place can get busy. Don't forget to pick up a loyalty card on your way out!

Worth a visit if you’re in Leicester and staying in Clarendon area. It’s such a cute little cafe and they offer a great selection of teas and (vegan & gluten free) yummy cupcakes. We visited last weekend on a Saturday and it was quite busy. I had the apple and blueberry muffin & Morrocan tea and enjoyed it. Would definitely visit again if I’m in the area!
