I have been here on several occasions and absolutely love it! The curries are amazing and the roast dinner is maybe the best I've ever had at a pub. Drinks are good value especially at happy hour. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Will be back!

A top quality pub. We had the Indian starters - really tasty and beautifully cooked. Great staff, and very nice quality decor. We'll be back to do the entire starter menu - it made a great Indian tapas 😁

Recently, I dined at The Elephant and Peacock with friends. The starters were a delightful beginning, bursting with flavor and setting high expectations. Our main courses were equally tasty. The ambiance added to the experience with its inviting atmosphere, but the limited menu left us craving more options. Additionally, the service could have been more attentive, as we found ourselves waiting for long stretches without check-ins. All in all, a decent spot for Indian cuisine but with room for improvement in variety, service, and value.

Visited midweek to celebrate a friends birthday and did not regret it! The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful and went above and beyond. Right from he lady who greeted us and took us to our table to both of the gentleman taking our orders and serving our food - everyone was informative, approachable and polite. The food was outstanding, arrived fast and was beautifully cooked. Incredible value for money considering how much we ate and how full we were! Could not fault it at all! To top the evening off, the waitress delivered a stunning warm chocolate brownie with ice cream with a candle in for my friends birthday, complimentary and so far above and beyond our expectations. It was the kindest gesture and was massively appreciated. We will definitely be back and I would recommend to anyone and everyone!

Went to the first roast served at E&P. Was insane. The pork crackling was best ever tasted. They also do a gluten free roast (second picture) with GF Yorkshire pudding, gravy and stuffing. (My kid had the Old Delhi Paneer as she wasn’t into roasts). It was so good and we tried the wine recommended with the pork and that was also totes lush. Hung around and the live music started at 5, which was also fun. Usually come here for the curries but great to have the Sunday lunch option as well. Thanks to the new owners for saving this beautiful historical building too. Go get fat.

I had room booked at the Elephant and Peacock for work and was warmly welcomed upon arrival. I was kindly taken to my room and shown back downstairs for tea. Katie went through the menu explaining some of the dishes and opted for the Tariwala which has nice amount of richness and spice. The portion size was perfect and not leaving me feel sluggish. The room was perfect and ideal for a short stay, super comfy bed and great shower. Katie was back the next morning for breakfast and quickly gave me the much needed coffee. My breakfast was incredible and quite easily one of the nicest full English breakfast I've had. Everything was cooked to perfection especially the poached egg. I couldn't recommend the Elephant and Peacock highly enough if you're needing a place to stay where they literally tick all the boxes. Thanks to Katie and Vince for my warm welcome and keep doing what you do 🤗.

We booked two nights including breakfast here as we needed to visit a friend. We also had dinner on the first night. It far exceeded our expectations for a pub. The room was hotel standard as was the food. The traditional English pub is owned and run by Sikhs which is a great combination. Olde World English pub with Indian design touches, and delicious Indian food and hospitality. What's not to love?

Poor from the outset! No knives and forks had to get our own. Onion Bhaji small balls of congealed grease - Yuk Samosas were actually cold and a bit squashed and messy. Pickle tray had a green, taste free goo and two portions of identical mango chutney as they’d “run out of salad” at 7.45pm?? Main was a coconut fish curry which actually wobbled like jelly in the bowl….bland and gloopy - not sure anything fresh went into making it. Pilau rice was ok as was the naan. Buttered chicken edible but nothing special. Had to find staff to get a second drink as the service was so poor. The venue is very nice but it outclasses the food and service we had by a million miles. Eaten Indian food for years and this is one of the worst meals I’ve had in a decade. Don’t waste your time or money. There are much better nearby!

Food terrible. The pickle tray had one free goo and two identical mango chutney. When asked why there was no variety the waitress we normally have salad but ran out. The starter of onion banjo was small, greasy chewy balls of batter with no discernible onion and the cold vegetable simosa mess was very unappetising. The main course was a congealed mess masquerading as a coconut fish curry ( actually wobbled like jelly when served suggesting to me freshly made it wasn’t) tasted bland and gloopy! Pilau rice was ok. Buttered chicken was slightly better but worst eaten in years. The service was useless. No knives and forks had to get our own and had to go to the bar to get a drink. Hopeless. Lovely old former pub deserves better standard of food. Really ruined wife’s birthday meal and won’t go there ever again. Reheated slops in my opinion and congealed and nothing freshly prepared. Does not deserve above two star! Don’t water you time and money - Worst experience for years!

Nice place for a drink 🍷 and a meal. For drinks we had a few sauvignon blanc and malabar IPA both very nice. We had starters of lamb chops and chilli fish which again were nice, the only improvement would be 3 chops as 2 just seemed a little small. Mains were chicken jalfrezi and tariwala chicken with pilau rice and garlic naan which we enjoyed followed by use both having apple and cinnamon crumble. Service was very attentive and the place was clean with a good atmosphere ( and the gents were nice and clean). 😃

Fab place for our wedding anniversary celebrations. Lovely ambience, staff and great menu served perfectly. Really enjoyed my lamb starter but think 3 cutlets rather than 2 would be better value as my portion was tiny compared to the fish dish my partner enjoyed. The chicken curry was the best l have had in a restaurant for quite a while and the apple crumble was a nice different dessert for an Indian restaurant

Popped into the Elephant and Peacock on the offchance on late return home from visiting Saturday evening, so hadnt been planned. (Had only been in here once before when we had had a drink and snack mid afternoon). It was just after 9.30pm, and even though the kitchens were about to shut they obliged with making us food. I love the feel of this place and the decor is really smart - spacious and welcoming. The food was excellent, and service was obviously pretty speedy as there were few diners at that time. We had two curries with a chilli fish starter all served together, 2 naans, and a couple of drinks , bill came to £49.00 which thought was reasonable. Definitely intend to go again.

I stayed at The Strutt arms for 2 nights and arrived on a Friday. The bar/restaurant are called the elephant and peacock, so it can get a bit confusing. We decided to eat here on our first night because it is Indian food. The restaurant was full, so we ate our food in the conservatory area of the bar. You can also eat in the main bar or the tables outside. We ordered starters, mains courses, rice and naan. All the food we had was absolutely delicious. We loved it so much that we decided to eat there the following night and try different dishes. We loved the pina colada cocktails and seemed to set a trend for them with the locals! The second night we sat outside and it was lovely. The vibe of the place is so relaxed, yet lively. The locals are very friendly and we felt very welcomed here. The staff are also nice and our whole experience was perfect. The food was definitely the best Indian food I’ve tasted outside of India. We will definitely be back.

We went with family to celebrate my husbands birthday. We loved the idea of different Indian and English fusion. Before ordering we asked how hot certain menu choices were and were told mild. They certainly WERE NOT MILD! The food was mainly enjoyed (with a glass of water) but staff taking orders do need to know the spiciness of Meals on the menu when asked. I cannot remember the dish names but i had the seabass in coconut sauce (very hot) Others has the Indian Fish and chips... enjoyed but seperate sauce was very hot! The chicken dish was supposed to be mild but actually incredibly hot! The evening was enjoyed in a fabulous atmosphere. The bill had to be checked as our deposit wasn't taken off when 1st given it so had to ask for that to be done. Other than that a pleasurable evening.

Sometimes when you walk into a restaurant you get a feeling - a vibe - as to how the evening is going to go. The E&P immediately gave off a feeling of ‘we’ve got this’ and it was easy to relax knowing it was going to be good. It’s a large prominent building on the A6 near the river which had been empty for a while, so it was good to see it back in use - and after seeing the characteristic adverts on roundabouts in Derby, it was good to put 2 and 2 together to realise it was this place! Inside it’s been smartly renovated in a contemporary style and can probably be best described as an Indian gastro pub. The service was impeccable and the menu thoughtfully chosen. A ‘pile it high curry house’ this is not - instead a set number of select, quality, authentic dishes. The food was delicious, the service faultless and overall it was an excellent experience. We will be back!

Beers were fine too Somewhat more expensive than I felt justified. Went as a couple at about 5.30pm to eat ( had booked a table for 6pm but were a bit early). Pub side was busy though restaurant side was quiet at that time. However, we were welcomed by host and shown to our table, and were then looked after by two charming and efficient young waiting staff. Had drinks to start (my pint of draft at £3.90 was good value and tasty), followed by popadums and unlimited pickles. My wife ordered the prawn curry and delicious peshwari naan, and I had four starter/street food dishes: lamb chops, prawns, roast cauliflower and chopped samosas. All the food was gorgeous. The menu is quite small, but everything is really delicious. By the time we finished eating at 7pm, the restaurant was really busy so advisable to book. Would highly recommend.

We stayed stayed here twice in the same week for travelling to and from the area to visit family. Our first stay we had Room 4 - A Superior Double This room from the moment you walked in was so large and spacious, it also came with an en-suite that offered a walk in shower We were provided a fan in both rooms, There is no air conditioning within this hotel most likely due to its age and current listing we imagine it’s a grade 1 or 2 listed building and it’s stunning both inside and out, the current owners and transformed it to look even better than before with brilliant colours and wallpapers. We had a great nights sleep in this room. On our second visit we had their suite Room 1 - Deluxe Double with Bath The free standing bath was a lovely touch it was big but could of done with a slightly better clean if I’m being a little picky, The only other downsides to this room were the heat it gets if you stay during summer as it faces the sun in the afternoons it was so hot day and night and sadly the beds were two singles where this room could and should accommodate a King / Queen or Double sized bed. The bed quality and sleep wasn’t as good in this room sadly but we still had a good stay. It’s also worth noting currently the chef has Mondays off so their is a continental breakfast only with toast but they do offer more than enough to please. We did have a full English on our second stay and the only things missing were toast and black pudding other wise it was lovely fresh filling but could of done just slightly a bit more. Still a brilliant couple of nights here and we would definitely return and recommend to loved ones to stay here.

Lovely food, lovely drinks, nice atmosphere. service was pretty good, our dessert order didn't go through to the kitchen at first but as soon as it had was really quick and food quality was amazing.

Really nice pub - great decor and brilliant location - had starters only which were lovely and tasty and great value for money. Beers were nice and plenty parking.

Booked a table for4 for Sat night in the bar area. Arrived to be put in the restaurant area which has no atmosphere and is like a school dinner hall. Found my own table in the bar and we told the staff member we had moved. After half an hour still had no service from anyone. So we left and went to viceroy for exceptional food and service. I shall not be coming back here.

It's a nice pub with Asian flair. The grub was a bit of British/Indian fusion, which was a nice change to other boozers in and around the Derby area. Midweek though, there are not too many customers, so we were eating in practically an empty pub. I enjoyed the food, though.

We had a really enjoyable, well-priced meal at the Elephant and Peacock. The quality and ambience of the pub is very impressive and when greeted on entry, you can choose to sit in the bar or spacious restaurant. The interior is very tasteful, combining a gastro pub feel with a lively bar and Indian twist. The menu is a mix of Indian cuisine and pub favourites with a hint of spice or other nods to authentic flavours from the sub-continent. The service was attentive, our food was plentiful and delicious, especially the very reasonably priced children’s meals. Desserts were smaller but ideal for a sensibly-priced shot of sweetness to finish, without being over filling. We loved the concept, all round quality and left very happy!

Seriously impressed with the food and great service. Freshest ingredients we've come across in an Indian. Everything cooked to perfection and so tasty. Interesting items on the menu at modest prices. Will definitely return!

Called one Thursday evening (quiz night in the pub and very busy) for the first time we have visited this restaurant and it was a lovely surprise. The service was truly excellent and the sensible menu had something for everyone. We will return!

It's absolutely amazing. Beautiful food. You don't get as much as a takeaway, but it's worth it as it's 10x better than a takeaway

Firstly not regarding the food we went last night for a family meal for my sons 21st birthday and we took 8 people. i have to say the staff where absolutely amazing , so helpful , very attentive and went above and beyond to make us all feel special and the whole service was top quality. Now to the food. i have written reviews on Katmandu's food before and this will be no different. Every course including the poppadoms etc were cooked perfectly. This is one of the few curry restaurants were you can see that the meat in the curries is actually fresh and not hard lumps. All 8 people loved the food with everyone having different apart from my son and myself who had duck madras so im sure we cant all be wrong. We will without fail be back soon.
