Best Indian restaurant in the area. Really authentic tasty food and good portions. Staff really friendly. There’s a reason this is the oldest Indian restaurant in Alfreton. Original and best.

Visited for an evening meal on a weeknight during our holiday and had a great meal. We were given a warm welcome and attentive service as the restaurant was quiet. There were plenty of vegetarian options for us and when taking the orders, we were asked whether we preferred mild, medium or spicy. The food was fresh and tasty - I loved the garlic and cheese naan bread.

First time dining at Sanam tonight. Absolutely delicious meal and wonderful service. Cannot fault this place. We will be back for sure. Thank you!

As soon as you walk in it looks an absolute dive. The whole front of house is a complete mess and filthy. Staff are unorganised. Food tastes awful. Meat tastes cheap and flavourless. Stomach cramps the next day. Avoid!

We decided to eat at this restaurant after reading glowing reports of the food on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We both selected different dishes, both were delicious, the rice was light and fluffy.The food was freshly cooked to order, the Proprietor was on hand with information and recommendation on each dish. The food was pleasantly served and the cost was pleasantly reasonable

Fantastic food and hospitality. Sanam catered to my family booking of 30 people on a Sunday night recently and they were exceptional. Not only did we all order from the A La Carte menu, which meant a very complex and varied list of requests but also lots of dietary requirements. They catered to it all and still smiled through it making our annual full family staycay extra special. I'd highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area or travelling through.

luckily a friend who I trust 100% recommended Sunam. I would never have gone in otherwise. Nothing not home made here, even kulfi which is do rare these days. Reasonable price, great service GO! not the usual menu which often is fr freezer to microwave, dishes Ive never had before GO

Amazing food and exceptionally friendly service! We came here to celebrate our first year of marriage and it was great. The Chicken Saag and Lamb Gosht were delicious and the portions were very generous. We would definitely come here again if we were in the area. All the best

The best genuine Indian food in Derbyshire. Some bad review on here from a guy expecting a cellar full of red wine from various decades ( order the house red mate ) . It’s a small Indian in a little town with friendly helpful staff that go out of their way to look after you. The sauces have great depth the nans are made on site in the traditional way and the meat is always fantastically cooked.

This is the most best curry I have ever tasted I have been going here for 20 or more years and the food is amazing the staff are very friendly and helpful I suffer with disabilities and have deliberate and they are for always very helpful to me for instance they said they would send me a poppadom as a free gift as I spent 25 pounds but when it came he had got mixed up and brought me Coca-Cola I then explain this to the delivery driver who was more than accommodating and said he would go and swap it and for me to keep the Coca-Cola and it will be back in a minute whilst we were talking I realized that I got the wrong change but as it was luckily 10 minutes later he Returned with the correct poppadoms and the change which was missing and was very apologetic always love this place fantastic it may not be up-to-date with all the trimmings but definitely the food is amazing and customer service is even better to me outstanding please note the change was purely my fault because I was talking and basically he didn't give me the £10 note even though I actually seen him get it out so how brilliant was that I didn't even have to question it he came back five minutes later as promised and let me have the Coca-Cola and the free poppadoms no questions about the change which many people would have said nothing and made out I had got it incorrect so thank you very much San and once again very happy

Been coming here for nearly 20 years and it never disappoints! We no longer live in the area but like we tonight we again found ourselves back here for the great food! I would rather have the 30 mins drive and eat this amazing food than have the average local take away delivered.

Food took 45 minutes to come out. However, it was very tasty. Staff were very friendly and on the ball, pleasant atmosphere on the whole.

Been driving past this place since 2005! Never considered trying it out - cos the place didn’t look inviting and from outside walking or driving past the business! It does look dull - until me and the friends entered… Inside looks not bad and it has old school look from the 70s & 80s The elderly guy was serving us and advised us try! A little gem, though not much from the outside! This small and basic looking restaurant greatly surprised us with its friendly atmosphere and fab food . From the welcome poppadoms to the very generous starters and mains and delicious nan .Would certainly recommend a visit .

We had a tandoori chicken massala and a lamb acheri mazah with chefs spices. We were treated to some complementary poppadums and pickle which was a nice thought. Both the main courses were excellent and well above the average in terms of quality and flavour. They had that freshly individually prepared feel to them. The order was adjusted so we could have nan and rice instead of just rice. Portions were generous. Services was excellent, attentive but not excessive. One of the best Indian meals we have had. Other diners also appeared to be enjoying there meals although as it was midweek it was fairly quiet.

Fantastic food and staff fantastic delivery on time

We have been dining in and also having take away for years from Sanam. The food is always outstanding, so fresh snd tasty and contains the highest quality ingredients. We have tried other local places and also when we have visited other locations but this place is by far the best we have had. The staff are so very friendly and the service is 1st class. Don't ever close down Sanam 😀

Lovely small restaurant which is great for small parties. We were a party of 8 and the food was good and the service was impressive! The service from the front of house was exceptional, he worked incredibly hard and nothing was too much trouble!

Amazing food! I'm lactose intolerant and they do chicken korma with a proper coconut milk/cream so I'm not poorly afterwards. Ordered already plenty of times! Always so welcoming. Lovely owner, been to eat inside for a date too, very lovely and fantastic customer service! Couldn't recommend it enough! Best curry I've eaten in the last 16 years!

This restaurant gets good reviews but unfortunately we had a bad experience. It was obvious from the beginning that there were issues here. Only two staff were available on a Saturday night. All attention appeared to be given to taking telephone calls for takeaway. I asked for the wine list which didn’t arrive. When I asked again and tried to choose a wine it was clear that none of the wines were available! Apparently it depends on what they have at the cash and carry. In any event it is obviously too much trouble to print a list of what wines they actually have. Most people drink beer so I suspect we would be in the minority. I still hate to think how long it would take to get any food. We didn’t wait to find out and left feeling let down and disappointed.

Excellant food and service, everything you expect from a restaurant.

Me and some friends were staying nearby and thought we would give the Sanam a try. We were very pleased that we did . We were made to feel very welcome and had a delicious meal. We would definitely visit again if we are in the area.

Had a lovely meal delivered tonight from Sanam, it came within the time they said when ordered and was hot and well packaged to keep it warm. Friendly delivery guy and the food tasted great. Well done Sanam Team on great service.

Very very nice food! There is a incredible selection that is available, with a large selection of drinks also available. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The portion sizes are spot on but I would recommend sharing a rice as there's more than enough for two. Will definitely go back again.

Sanams is a the best curry in amber valley. I am a local and we have a few Indian restaurants that do BYOB but you don't need to here. The pints are wicked if you are into lager. Served 14 people in relatively quick time...

Last 3 orders have been unacceptable. 1st one was delivered cold. 2nd tasted horrible (like it was an old batch) and now the last one was going to be 45mins late. Totally unacceptable, been using them for years and they've always been fantastic and tasty in the past. Don't know what they're doing now, but they've lost a long serving customer.

I'm not sure why there's so many good reviews for this place?? Ate there last night and it was the most tasteless/bland curry I've ever had. The nann bread, however, was amazing but everything else was massively disappointing I've had better curries in a jar! Lacked spice, depth and flavour. At around £10 per main (well over priced) you'd expect quality. Unfortunately not. Avoid.

Decided to get a takeaway from Sanam, having read good reviews on Trip Advisor. So glad we did; the staff were really welcoming and friendly and the food was lovely. It was a friday night so busy, but we didnt have to wait too long. All dishes we had were tasty and beautifully cooked.

In short, the food and hospitality are brilliant. The toilets and stairwell leading to the toilet could do with a lick of paint & maintenance. Apart from that it was MEGA.

Very good food, fast and great service

Went with my wife and her very elderly father ( a late life convert to Asian cuisine) on a Saturday night. We had booked and were seated promptly by friendly and attentive staff. Two of our party were vegetarians so we filled the table to bursting with vege side dishes. We particularly enjoyed the cauliflower and potato and the Tarka Daal. This was accompanied by pilau race and moreish naans.The Mongoose beer went down a treat.This was all good value and we would go again !

Decided to eat out and did,nt want to go far, someone had said why dont you try the sanam so we decided to give it a go,wow what a surprise, the food was exceptional and we ate all we could as the portions are generous and full of flavour.we asked to take home what we could,nt eat, we arrived when the doors opened and the customers kept coming in, it was full in no time, we will definately be coming back 10 out of 10
