After booking a table in advance and explaining we have a baby with us, the staff were very accommodating and ensured we were seated away from the crowd so that the baby could be comfortable. Food was presented beautifully, served on time, and it almost felt like we had a waiter just for us - thats how good their service was. It's definitely a place to go again.

Service was a bit iffy, taking a while to actually get our food order sorted. But otherwise it was really good. We had a bunch of starters and mains, all seafood and vegetarian. The sea bass was excellent, as was the tandoori salmon. Would recommend.

So... this was my first time here and we were having a meal in honour of my late grandad but the majority of the 7 people I visited with had been before, safe to say I won't be visiting again. The food was lovely but I service was awful, yes it was during Ramadan which I honestly understand BUT, why not get other people to come out on standby and take over whilst you break your fast to keep the service running smoothly? it took them 40 minutes to arrive with the starters after we had a poppadom and pickles each, 2 out of the 7 people me included had to wait until my other family members had finished eating their starters for ours to even arrive (I ordered the scallops and my brother ordered the mixed starter despite my dad ordering the mixed starter aswell which arrived with everyone elses) we then waited another 40+ minutes for our mains, I then had to wait a small amount of time extra for my seabass whilst other people were eating at our table. There was what looked like a hair in one of the starter dishes and the server said it was from one of the brushes. Fine. But then to top it off the waiter stepped on my dad's foot twice but was very apologetic so we shrugged this off and carried on with the meal. Not worth the almost £350 we spent in total and I honestly feel so let down with this place and this is supposed to be high end? Not a chance. My parents and brother have visited previously and have enjoyed it but we're very disappointed with the service this time around and I don't think anyone will be returning which is a shame because the food was nice but not top quality. A couple also arrived shortly after us waited over an hour for their food which didn't arrive so they walked out absolutely fuming which really put the cherry on top of everything that had happened last night. Not happy at all, I suggest people go elsewhere and spend your money.

We arrived early Thursday evening. What a well laid out restaurant. The food we ordered was mainly lamb, both starter and main course. We were able to enjoy half of it in the restaurant, but due to my wife having Blood Cancer, her Chemotherapy leaves very tired, so we had to leave half way through our meal. However it was all packaged up, and we took it to our hotel and enjoyed the rest of it on Friday. It was truly delicious. Thank You to everyone who served us and cared for us, we appreciated your thoughtfulness and kindness. We did truly enjoy the Viceroy experience and we hope one day return. Michael and Gloria

We usually order takeaway from here, but decided to treat ourselves and eat in. Food was lovely and our server Zaber was excellent!

Zabarfc was a good waiter, accommodating and a good host. Food was good, atmosphere was casual yet slightly refined.

The most delicious food I have ever tasted in the UK. Great Management and best team work. The taste is a mix of Indian and Bangladeshi food. The most famous south Asian curry, rice and naan cuisine. special drinks and salad. Sometimes the discount on food gives surprise. free parking and hospitality are also good to be mentioned.

We went as a party of 7 and we all had an excellent curry experience. Zaber was our main server and we received great customer service. I would give the food a 5 star but overall I scored a 4 as I do think it’s a little expensive and the tables are packed in quite tight. I would definitely recommend.

Eat there often and have takeaways, bever had a bad meal.

Viceroy is what curry is about. I have eaten a lot of curry in my time… a lot. There are different tiers an Indian restaurant can sit at, from your traditional ‘British’ Indian restaurant in middle England to an upmarket pernickety Indian frequented by the metropolitan elite (less my vibe). Viceroy grabs the former by the scruff of the neck and smashes it into outer space. Viceroy is not just a good local curry house, it is – without a doubt – one of the best Indian dining experiences I have had in the UK. Not convinced? Please read on… you will be.. I arrived at Viceroy, it’s carpark is very busy, a testament not only to the high degree of car ownership in the area but also to its popularity. My friend had to do a very difficult reverse park under pressure round the corner. I was impressed. My evening only got better from here. The inside of the restaurant is reminiscently 1990s – big and carpeted. I love it. It not only makes for a busy and lively setting where you still have space around the tables but also took me back to family trips to restaurants during my youth (the early 2000s when everything was better and young people could buy houses). As I enter a mental space of nostalgia and fresh Indian spices, a single tear falls into my chicken pasanda… Sorry, I’m skipping ahead. Joking aside, the ambience works – it is no-thrills conference furniture bling and booths – but it just works. I sit down. “Cobra beer sir?”. Three words I want to hit me in the face while I assess how many poppadoms I think it is socially acceptable to order. “Yes, please” I respond as I flick through the War & Peace of menus – options, options, options. I opt for four poppadoms between me and my friend. It is a modest amount to be sure but I know I can eat faster than him so will easily get through three while his indecision bogs himself down in the menu: a rookie. In truth, I don’t even need the menu (I often ask waiters in Indian restaurants to not bring the menu so I can show off my extensive knowledge of the suisine). It’s my first time here so I go with my entry level assessor choice: a paneer starter, then a chicken pasanda (yes there was a spoiler earlier) and a peshwari naan (the Kate Middleton of naan breads). I gaze out, people-watching at the other diners, creating backstories in my mind for their lives and jobs, developing them into complex characters. One poppadom down. For one table, I pretend the big table of lads are having a lads curry before a big lads night out in Duffield (what lads). I overhear them talking about football. It only adds to my story. Two poppadoms down. For another table, I see it as a mum’s 60th birthday celebrations with friends and family, discussing how their kids are getting on and holiday plans for the year. They are too far for me to corroborate this but I know I will take an obscure route to the toilet later to eavesdrop. Three poppadoms down. I suppose what I am saying from this is that Viceroy really is a restaurant for everyone. We order. I’m very excited by now. The Cobra is complimenting my paneer makhani like a fine wine in a Paris restaurant (I smile knowing that I am not in the eurozone). This is living. Then, it happened. The woman sat behind me accidentally dropped a piece of lamb (vindaloo by the colour) down her top, her décolletage funnelling the failed mouthful into the very bowels of her blouse. The mechanics of her trying to remove it become a slight distraction as the plates are cleared to make way for the main. Excitement reigns. I know what you are thinking: “did you not order rice?”. No, no I didn’t. I don’t need rice. Why would I order rice when I can order bread or additional sides or maybe even two mains for myself (I have done it before and I WILL do it again). Anyway, I just don’t need it or want it. Peshwari naan is lit so I use that as my carb. I often have it second day for breakfast with jam. It’s great but I have never had heartburn like it. I digress. My main arrives. Still no sign of the rogue lamb escapee at the table next to us but I am sure she will find it later. Both mains were great. Decent portion size. Seminal naan. What more do you want? I sit there and take it all in: my food, my friendship, the large carpeted room. A tear rolls down my cheek. This is food. This is living. I will cut my story short there to keep it under 900 words (yes you have been reading for that long), but what I will say is go to Viceroy. It is exceptional. I firmly believe that Duffield is on the verge of becoming the food capital of the Amber Valley, if not the whole of the British Isles. I live in London and I am considering visiting Duffield soon to alleviate my Viceroy cravings soon. Next time I am in Derbyshire I am there and I hope you will be too after reading this.

Came on valentines. Wasn't expecting a set menu but was pleasantly surprised by the verity of dishes. Would have liked a few more verities of traditional desserts. Overall really enjoyed our evening.

Booked for valentine's and the restaurant went all out amazing decorations an amazing menu that was great value and all tasted and looked amazing. Fantastic service from all the staff and the food was amazing definitely a step up from a normal Indian restaurant. The place to go for a special occasion.

It was fantastic, genuinely. They had an AMAZING selection of all Indian curries and meats with fantastic generous portions. They were funny, kept checking up on us to see if we wanted anything, I can't think of a better place. Beautiful interior, spacious car park, and will have a spot on my heart as that place in Derby, the best Indian cuisine is viceroy, run don't walk for an affordable place to eat with heartwarming food ( they also have a never ending alcohol selection for the people who drink) the service was fast, food was hot and fresh definitely worth it and I recommend! And I left with balloons as a nice gift. The food wasn't perfect and I only put4/5 stars for the food I wish I could put 4.5 , this is because I ordered seafood and I not necessarily a fan of sea food however it did taste nice 😋 with vegan options and it's halal. Less than £130 for 6 hungry people 😂

As ever, there was a warm welcome at the Viceroy. Hassan took time to chat about Pakistan and ask about us - very pleasant young man. Food brilliant - so tasty and not just the usual curry house menu. Great choice and beautifully presented.

Amazing service, we had lots of different waiters including a lovely personality who delivered the food! Hassan was one of our servers as well. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely and overall really impressed for my visit here. Family we took with us loved it even more and plan to arrange more meals here! My husband & I ate at the restaurant on Sat 13th Jan. We ordered Champagne & Chablis & the whole meal came to around £200 for the two of us. We were told 4 times after one hour an 40 minutes that other customers were waiting for our table. We had half a bottle of Chablis still to drink. My husband also received the incorrect meal. He specifically order a dish without mushrooms. The dish arrived with mushrooms. The staff member just shrugged this off. A few weeks before this I must say we had an excellent meal & received service likewise. However we have now been left very disappointed. If I could suggest that the restaurant should set customers expectations if they are going to need the table back & that a spend of £200 for one hour and 40 is not acceptable.

I have been to Viceroy a number of times now and we are never disappointed. The food is always on point and the vibe is amazing. This specific time was on NYE and although the restaurant was full and busy with not only dine in but takeaway too, we still had waiters attend to us and make sure we were ok. I want to mention Hassan specifically as he was very friendly and welcoming. I have to say this is probably the best curry house i have been to within my area of where I live. Although its a 25 minute drive, it's well worth venturing out to Viceroy. Its a higher priced restaurant compared to others, but well worth the money. 10/10 would recommend.

The place was very busy but the service was absolutely shocking we’d reduced our table from 9 to 5 people which should have made it easier it didn’t. Drinks took 20 minutes the waiter thought 6 popadoms would be enough for 5 people! We had to ask 3 times for a jug of water which is usually standard for a table. We waited over an hour and 20 minutes for our mains and when we queried this they said ‘well that tables been waiting 2 hours!’ As if that was an answer we said well that’s on you and bad service. They kept saying they were so busy which wasn’t our problem and did not want to listen to a group of women. Very arrogant. The food was very nice thankfully but not once did anyone ask us this. Also the amount of times they knocked into our chairs. We spoke to the manager again didn’t want to know and knocked 20% off the bill we didn’t tip and won’t be going back.

Lovely food, very attentive staff

Let me break down my 1 star rating review. My order was a Lamb Lal Maas with a Garlic & Cheese Naan. Let’s start with the Lamb. The colour of the meat was very unappetising. The Lambs meat colour was stained brown/yellow; looking old & discoloured from its usual bright pink look. However, to the groups discussion, they blamed this colouring of the Lamb to the curry stains on the meat; it honestly looked as though it had been sat there for weeks on end, & the taste most definitely proved this thinking back now. To add even more insult, the majority of the lamb meat was just clumps of off-cuts, & there were very limited amounts of actual lamb chunks. Which in my case a good thing. However, for a normal customer, you wouldn't be too pleased, as they’re very stingy on their potion servings, with tubs half full! The Naan. How this is cooked is very important for making any curry, & what I received was an uncooked, floppy, broken down naan bread. Now, I knew not to expect the world from a naan, but come on; if you can’t cook a naan right, then you are struggling as a Indian Restaurant. In addition, the price of this place is absolutely ridiculous compared to every other Indian restaurant too. The concluded was what you would have expected from what I described… That’s right, food poisoning… Not just the odd bout either, but numerous of times throughout the night. & Too make matters worse, I wasn't the only one of the group either... The food was clearly old, stored incorrectly & is cross contamination. A surprise visit from the food hygiene rating industry, I’m sure would prove this. This place really does cut corners; thinking more about themselves & cost saving; short cutting every chance they can, rather than thinking of the customers & the quality of the food. I would highly recommend you avoid this restaurant , as I'm sure one day you'll end up like myself, so if you don’t fancy a day on the toilet, avoid! If you want a real Indian restaurants, with no food poisoning, I would highly recommend The Viceroy in Derby. Never ordering from here again!

My friend and i had a takeaway, the food was ready upon arrival, decor looked lovely and staff very attentive The food was really nice my vegetable curry was spiced and balanced perfectly The cheesy aloo was delicious the lemon rice spot on, my only negative was my garlic naan was abit cold and chewy otherwise it would of been a 5 star rating

Came here for dads 81st birthday, extremely attentive service without being overbearing, extremely well trained staff who work seamlessly as a team. The business is clearly well run & maintained to a high standard, which runs through the whole place. Now, the main event....the food...

We had booked for a 50th birthday meal - 12 people. We had a really lovely evening to remember. Our table was in a side area which was a little more private and was quieter. The restaurant let us bring a birthday cake and lots of the staff came in during the evening to wish the birthday guy happy birthday, give him special drinks and to generally make us feel welcome. Most people ate different mains - all were delicious. I cannot recommend this restaurant or its lovely staff highly enough. They couldn’t have done more to make our evening enjoyable.

Parking here is a an issue as small car park and very limited road parking. Small tables so quite cramped seating. Small portions of food although to a decent standard. Service was very good despite the language barrier. Don’t think we’d bother again.

Myself and my partner have been here many a time and always had a fantastic experience but unfortunately last night I can not say the same. I had booked as I always do, and was greeted with no reservation made and the manager wanting to see my confirmation email which I happily showed and was looked at for several minutes before “squeezing us in”. No apology was made which I found very upsetting. The food was fabulous as always but the plates weren’t cleared until after I paid , to which I must say, the waiter asked how much the bill was to input in card machine , surely that is something that they do and not rely on the customer as to be honest I could have said any amount and would have been put through. And then as we were leaving, even though the manager at the front with several staff, did not say bye , which I have not experienced before and I found quite rude considering how a mistake was made regarding reservation. I would like to say that would go back but not for a while as quite a bad experience!

Have been using restaurant regularly for a couple of years and have had had cause to complain more than once about shrinking portions particularly on take aways. I have spoken to the management more than once and, despite it being small portions, I stayed loyal. This weekend Sept 2023, I ordered a takeaway. See the picture I attached. It is absolutely horrific… layer of oil across the top and a tiny portion. Just to let you know - 2 curry dishes, 2 rice and naan was over £40 for a takeaway. I called the restaurant and they couldn’t be less interested. I really wish this restaurant would listen to its customers but sadly the management appear arrogant beyond belief. ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH…….. please listen and sort it or lose your customers. The entire village of duffield seems to be complaining about you over the last 6-12 months and you seem oblivious. Why?

Have been using this restaurant (dine in and take away) for 2 years. There has been a gradual decline in food quality and recently, last few months, the takeaway portions have been reduced to something that barely makes a meal. I have told them twice...

This is the second time I have been here and it is the best Indian I have had in a long time. Food, service and staff all exceptional and a really good atmosphere. Rashid the manager was very good, keeps the place running like clock work. Will definitely be returning
