Shapla Spice in Amber Valley

Very poor, better quality sauces from the supermarket.

The most fantastic find whilst visiting the area for work. Happened across the Shapla Spice on a Sunday evening and it was really busy - good sign! Asked for recommendations re a good lamb and a good prawn dish. Oh my word! The most tender lamb balti ever, with a delicious prawn bhuna house special. Fabulous with spinach and chilli naan. Great service and bring your own booze, so great value.

Yet another fantastic takeaway from our favourite restaurant. Fantastic food, great staff, would very highly recommended.

Dave’s chips!!!! Well what can I say. They were absolutely spot on. Great service, great food and the Saturday night we went there was a great atmosphere. Well recommended if you are wanting a curry in Ripley. Tank your out booze though as they are not licensed.

Went for new year's eve meal, food is always excellent but in previous years service has been poor due to high numbers of takeaways, but not this time, great service keep it up.

This is my go to takeaway! Food is always incredible, website is super easy to use and the delivery driver is always lovely and friendly. Can not recommend enough

Nice place, service was great, not licenced but no problem, you can bring your own beer and wine. I found the food was okay enough, but run of the mill. Standard curry and rice, nothing exceptional, prices average.

Friendly staff, good service, and some exceptional dishes. Not licensed, so can bring own alcohol. Limited parking but free public parking not far away. The chilli tamarind starter is a delight.

Ordered takeaway over phone, they had it just ready when I arrived to pick up, food was really good, much better than all the local takeaway specific food joints around ripley. When I got home it was still piping hot and 10/10. Definitely recommend and got a discount for picking up myself. What's not to like? Will absolutely go again.

Solely on delivery. I order every week and called at 5:30pm on New Year's Eve. Was informed it'll be 1.5hrs.... currently been waiting over 3hrs. Surely you would of delivered some by now... I guess you have decided that because we live on the borders of your delivery range that we are less important.... this is totally unacceptable as a loyal customer. I won't be returning anytime soon.

The food was lovely the service was great, the only thing I could find wrong was the table cramped in. I shall still be going though just hope it's not to cramped next time. Can't fault the food.

Love this place dearly, personal service, excellent food (the mirchee mossalla is to die for). If you've never had Dave's special chips, you've simply not lived. They especially like it when I play them with my Trinidad scorpion chillies. Keep up the good work lads, I'll be eating your food for as long as we're all going.

Went to Shapla last nite for a birthday meal. The food was magnificent as always service brilliant. Couldn't think of anywhere else I would go for a celebration meal that's near to home. Will definitely be going back next month and wd are considering making it a monthly date for dinner

Shocking!!!! Ordered through website waited 3 hours, rang a number of times and the guy just kept saying 5 minutes then hanging up, food came eventually, no apology no nothing unacceptable!!!! Would give 0 if I could!!!!!

New years eve order really wasn't great. Food was just about warm and the chicken tikka tasted like blended tomatoe soup and also sent a wrong item out with the order

Had an Indian on the 23rd December, food arrived and all looked OK. Have ordered from here multiple times before and never had an issue. Sadly this time my partner and me woke up vomitting 7 hours later, all the way through Christmas Day (had nothing else to eat prior to this). It's boxing day now and we're both still suffering. Absolutely no response from the restaurant, have reported to food standards agency. Very disappointed and ruined our entire Christmas, absolutely gutted.

Fantastic little restaurant. Been a number of times with work colleagues and had a few take outs aswell. Food is always cooked to perfection and the staff really look after you. Best Indian in the area by far.

Service was very good but the table cloth was not clean and the curry chicken was very over cooked

Best curry we have had in years. Don't be put of by having to bring your own alcohol it reduces the bill significantly. Everyone should try the dirty chips they are amazing.

Smashing little place. Been here a number of times and would/will be very happy to go back. Great food, brilliant service and very fair prices. Not a negative but a heads up for anyone wishing to visit, take your own drink with you. They don't have a drinks licence but happy for you to bring your own.

Not a huge fan of indian food but this place is certainly changing my mind lots of choice and great friendly staff ,bring your own alcohol too .i have been several times since discovering this place and look forward to many more visits.

was really disappointed with my food it was meant to be a jalfrezi sauce but it was very mild and not at all like the description on the menu.

The only ‘negative’ we can give to Shapla Spice is that they are always ‘boringly’ reliable. Reliably good. Three years after my last review of the place nothing has faltered. Same good, fast and friendly service from the Manager and his staff. Same good food of course - be it eat in or take away and the value is the best in Ripley with BYOB and complimentary coffee & mint(!) to follow. To summarise then. If you’ve never been: Go. If you have been: Go again. ‘Nuff said! 😃 🍛 🍺👍

Went at a popular time so was a very busy restaurant people queuing for both sit down & takeaway, sit down service was quick and food tasty loads of choices on menu staff friendly, reminder it's a take your own alcohol place unless your into soft drinks👍🏼

We visited here as a group of 6 for a hen celebration; staff were lovely and very welcoming! None of us had any complaints about our meals, and the portions were great, with plenty left to take home. Dave’s chips are a must!

stone cold on delivery only live .5 mile away ordered chicken korma and chicken in chefs special sauce both the same but one was red ,no spice did ,nt taste like curry daves chips cold an greasy very disappointed try classic canton for a decent meal next time blows this out of the water

I’m amazed as to how this restaurant has been given so many previous 5 star reviews. I can only conclude that something significant has changed in the business very recently. We ordered a takeaway (NYE 2020 & Tier4 lockdown). In summary, massively disappointed with the food. My Tikka Balti was nothing like any Tikka Balti I have ever tasted - and not in a good way! Tasted like a Tomato Dolmio Sauce with massive chunks of Tomato thrown in for good measure. I appreciate that a Balti actually originated in Birmingham and this restaurant claims to be Bangladeshi food, but if you are going to advertise a speciality dish such as a Balti, its not unreasonable to expect it to actually represent a true Balti. I can only liken this to ordering fish & chips and getting steak pie instead. And who puts an over powering amount of Garlic in a Peshwari Naan? True Peshwari Naan has NO Garlic. In summary, awful food. Never again. The Aldi bought Indian dishes are more tasty than these.

Consistency of food quality and taste is exceptional. Staff are great. Although on a couple of occasions our discount wasnt applied when we collected so was a bit disappointed at the expense hence 4/5

We've been using Shapla for years and have nearly always been satisfied with the food, but since they reopened after lockdown there has been no social distancing implemented. The counter area is packed with people picking up takeaways standing over people who are eating. I won't be going again until this is all over.

Very disappointed, ordered food for delivery at 8pm was told delivery would be at 9:25 pm as very busy , not a problem with that, food still not arrived by 9:50 was then informed it had just left, finally arrived at 20:15 almost cold soggy naan bread will not ever order from here again

We visited this week and we was SHOCKED that they had none of the following.. NO SOCIAL DISTANCING NO SANITIZER NO STAFF PPE TABLES NO CLEANED AFTER - JUST ANOTHER TABLE CLOTH ON TOP DID NOT EVEN TAKE OUR NAME FOR THE BOOKING OR ANY DETAILS ONCE WE ARRIVED. Food was OK We then got told that soft drinks are NOT included in the government help out to eat out scheme and had to pay full. First and last visit

Ordered over the phone for delivery was told an hour 90 minutes later still not arrived so rang back was promised another 5 minutes no another 30 minutes so 2 hrs waiting in total then the food was only luke warm not happy !

The guy on the phone said food would be an hour but it was delivered quicker than that (even though it’s a busy Friday night). Driver gave us a call and met us on our walk home, went out of his way to make sure we got our tea whilst still warm. Couldn’t fault this service at all and absolutely delicious too.

Takeaway tonight was stone cold Only two prawns in one of the dishes . Shame as two weeks ago it was brilliant Different chef ? Not impressed

Regulars here for take aways (and eat in before Covid) Never had a bad one. Always good food, good portions at a fair price. Friendly service too!

Disappointed, first order we had was beautiful, ordered last night for husband birthdays. Only got 2 somasas , order poppadum came with no pickle tray. The nan bread very small compared to last time.

Went sat 29th feb . Food not bad, but side dish (bombay potatoes) was all but stone cold. Had to ask waiter where the food had got to and we were served 1hr 15mins after ordering. They seem to be putting too much effort into the takeaway side, 16 takeaways went out the door while we were waiting. Are they a restaurant or a takeaway? Even that wouldn't have been so bad if a mutton dressed as lamb at the next table did not constantly draw on her plastic fag , trying to hide it under her coat. It stunk the room out.The waiters saw this and did nothing. May try again one day, when they have changed their priorities.

Great lamb madras, garlic naan and stuffed paratha take away. Good, prompt, polite service. Good sized pieces of lamb in fresh tasting sauce.

Whilst not presenting overtly complex food, Shapla delivers good service and consistently good curries. With an excellent location opposite the Red Lion pub, the convenience of departing the pub to satisfy any spice cravings are very welcomed. Service is efficient and friendly.

Very seldom do I feel compelled to write a really poor review but the service and inedible food we received from here at the weekend was atrocious. We were returning from a very tiring day as we’re musicians and Christmas is a busy time. So, we ordered on the Just Eat App from the car on our return. The restaurant accepted the offer and the allocated delivery time was some 1 hour ahead (2035 hrs) which we accepted as we had another half hour left on our journey. We got home, put the kids to bed and at 2035 waited for our knock at the door... nope, didn’t happen. My wife called at 2045 hrs and was fobbed off with ‘it’s on its way’.. it wasn’t! At 2115 another call confirmed it was ‘on its way in 2-3 minutes. It wasn’t. At 2145hrs it arrived.. ABSOLUTELY STONE COLD and inedible. Don’t know about you but I don’t like reheating rice, or meat or congealed onion bhajies that we’re so chewy I thought Hubba Bubba had gone experimental! £26 up the swanny... never again. There’s too much decent competition in Ripley. If you can’t cope with demand Shapla.. don’t take the order. Rubbish.

My friend and I booked a table here for a catch up. We ordered various items. Started with poppadoms and pickles poppadoms were crunchy and the pickles tasty. The main course I had a mixture of madras and masala not too sure what it's called. Along with garlic and mushroom fried rice. My friend had a dry dish again cant remember the name but had vegetables along with skewers of meat accompanied by mushroom rice. We shared a garlic naan. Food was hot, well cooked and extremely tasty. Service was friendly and polite. Ended with a coffee. Bill was a reasonable £29.We took our own drinks which is one thing I particularly like about this restaurant.

Hands down the best place to get a curry. Small inside however the staff are top quality at what they do. Chicken korma 100% recommended

Our food arrived very quickly - Just Eat said we were outside the delivery distance so we called. The food was really lovely, Dave’s Chips are unreal and lots of chicken in the curry. Will definitely order again!

Very nice food. That don't have a licence to sell alcohol so you can take your own. Could do with a makeover in decor but I was there for the food and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have been having food from here for the past 5 years....weather it is take away or sit in.Last night I order a curry which took 2 hours to arrive.The restraint must have taken to phone of the hook as I could not get through to get and E.T.A of my order.When the food finally turned up it was cold and very poor, the chicken was awful !!!!I think it is time to sort themselves out as this isn't the first time this has happend.However it will be the last time. !!Just not good enough!!

We have eaten here on many occasions and it is always busy, but good service.booked for this evening 6.30. Arrived on time and ordered straight away before it got busy,main meals only no starters.
