We had a lovely meal on a Sunday evening. Restaurant was quiet. We both had fish, sea bass Napoli cooked in a tasty king prawn and tomato sauce and salmon cooked in a creamy leek and tarragon sauce. Side order of seasonal veg and the dishes were both served with sautéed new potatoes. Delicious and all served piping hot. The staff were all lovely and the service was just as you’d hope. Wish we’d found this place a while ago - we’ll definitely be back.

Just had the worst meal from here. Normally go to the one on Monkston which I can’t fault but this one tonight was not good. Ordered a spring roll, battered sausage and chips. The spring roll was a long way from being a spring roll, there was no bean sprouts, full of sweetcorn and peas, and not much else, it was half the size of the ones I normally get, it was floppy and cold. The sausage was luke warm and full of grease, every bit coated my mouth in grease and very unpleasant. Chips Luke warm too. Won’t be going again

I have had two experiences with The Fish Shack, each vastly different from the other. 11/07/24: Iordered cod and chips (£70+) for the family, we were served what was quite possibly the best fish and chips we have ever tasted. Every mouthful was sheer delight, as if prepared by a Michelin star chef. The chips were perfectly crispy and crunchy, and the cod was cooked to absolute perfection. We couldn’t believe how amazing it was. 12/07/24: Eager to repeat the experience, some of the family and I drove down there again and placed the same order of cod and chips (£41). After waiting what seemed like an eternity, our excitement was palpable as we anticipated another wonderful meal. However, when we finally collected our orders and sat down to eat, we were shocked and disappointed. The cod was an oily mess, and the chips looked like they had come straight from the frozen section of Poundland. I cannot comprehend how the quality could deteriorate so drastically in just 24 hours. It was utterly abysmal, and we felt completely scammed. We won’t be going here again!

Very expensive compared to other local chip shops and stuck in the 80s not talking card payments. We were unable to get what we wanted as we didn’t have enough cash on us

Food lacked everything it showed on the pictures on the menu board...didn't spot it till we got home and unwrapped the food....no salad, extra pitta that we ordered and thr food in general was bland. Won't be going there again! Only giving it 1 star because I can't submit review if I don't 'star' it.

Hands down the best saveloy that i have ever eaten. The menu on the outside window is more extensive than the one by the counter.

Ordered 2 chicken & mushroom pies and 1 large chips. The chips were very hard and chewy - couldn't bite through them, some were undercooked in the middle. They tasted horrible, either re-cooked or cooked in old oil. The pies were extremely hard on top - couldn't bite through the pastry and soggy on the bottom. Will not be returning. No wonder there wasn't anyone else in the shop, it used to be so good and always busy when previous owners were there.
