I have had two experiences with The Fish Shack, each vastly different from the other. 11/07/24: Iordered cod and chips (£70+) for the family, we were served what was quite possibly the best fish and chips we have ever tasted. Every mouthful was sheer delight, as if prepared by a Michelin star chef. The chips were perfectly crispy and crunchy, and the cod was cooked to absolute perfection. We couldn’t believe how amazing it was. 12/07/24: Eager to repeat the experience, some of the family and I drove down there again and placed the same order of cod and chips (£41). After waiting what seemed like an eternity, our excitement was palpable as we anticipated another wonderful meal. However, when we finally collected our orders and sat down to eat, we were shocked and disappointed. The cod was an oily mess, and the chips looked like they had come straight from the frozen section of Poundland. I cannot comprehend how the quality could deteriorate so drastically in just 24 hours. It was utterly abysmal, and we felt completely scammed. We won’t be going here again!

One of THE if not THE worst EVER meal I have eaten! A complete rip off! The food took 20 mins to cook & the stall was not busy at all. A small Cod with Chips which I was charged £14.00 for! The Cod was as dry as leather, brown at the end under the Batter and tastsless - the chips were crap also - frozen chips from Cash & Carry. Overall very disappointed with the food and the bin ate well this afternoon - will not be back! I would have liked to have told the staff but all 3 were on their mobiles as we left the area - good luck with this business!

Ate lunch here on Easter Monday. Staff friendly and helpful in my experience. Fish was good, freshly cooked to order, I thought the batter was of good quality. Decent portion sizes.

Decided to try the adults cod and chips at £12.50, the chips were very much out of a packet and the cod was okay but the batter was very pale and not crispy, the scampi bowl looked amazing but the cod and chips was a bit of a failure for my wife and I.

Ordered chips for the kids..told to wait with the buzzer..20 min later i asked how long they would be..i was told they are cooking i can't go any faster..very rude.. i said i didn't ask that i asked how long as the kids are hungry..well you will have to wait..she then basically threw the portions on the side.. was rude to my friend too when she ordered. A simple.... you may have to wait for the chips to cook and a time.. mind you we would of ordered somewhere else as i got my food straight away at the pulled pork shack.

I ordered the fish and chips and a couple of drinks, The two girls were very pleasant, one was cooking the other taking the order. We waited a while with our "buzzer" and I did at that time think we had waited a bit longer than I expected for the meal. I went to the young lady who took the order and she said it would soon be ready. a few minutes passed and the buzzer went off. What an amazing surprise when I picked up the food, it has to be said it was without doubt the best fish and chips EVER. The fish was in such a light batter and was so moist with a great flavour, the chips were good and the Tartar sauce was a very generous portion. I was so impressed I did go back and thank the girls for an amazing meal. This was our first visit but we will definitely be back

Not my first visit, we are regulars at the Goods Yard at the harbour. However, feel the need to share. Big shout out to Lily@Folkestone Fish Shack as she consistently delivers freshly cooked, well presented, tasty food. We’ve tried all the food outlets but this one delivers on quality every time. Great work 🤗

Serving up badly cooked frozen produce for a premium price. £12.50 for a smallish portion of chips and cod with stodgy batter and the flesh seared stuck to the skin (a sure sign of it being cooked at an insufficient temperature for too long).

I have eaten in several times, sometimes with friends, and every time the food and the service has been first class; and none of us are backward in coming forward with criticism. The shop was once excellent but went through several owners and some frankly very bad patches. Under its present ownership, it is certainly headed in the right direction. The atmosphere is welcoming and the surroundings olde worlde, so much the better. Highly recommended.

This is a take-away food destination of choice whenever I’m in the area. The fish is great (the batter is great) and the chips are generally good to very good (there has been some variation over the years but nothing disappointing), although not the best I’ve tasted. I can be pretty fussy on chips having tasted many over the years. Portion sizes are good too! Staff are friendly and helpful.

Bobs is without doubt the best seafood in Folkestone. The crab soup is the best I’ve ever had. Highly reccomend this place

Disappointingly short on chips for £3.50, didn't even cover the bottom of the box considering it's the cheapest thing on the order to bulk up the meal. Good few youngsters working who might want to re-think if they'd like to be in a customer facing role, but was tasty food, apart from being very little for the price.
