Uckfield Fish Bar in Wealden

We had cod and chips on a weeknight. Ordered in their website for collection. They charged extra for ordering directly on their website compared to In the shop. Waited ages. The chips were pale and unappetising. The fish was disgusting. The batter has a strange flexible texture, not crispy. It had soaked up a serious amount of oil. It was orangey colour. Don't risk going. Head to one of the fish and chip shops on Uckfield high street.

Took my Nan to get some fish and chips from our old favourite fish and chip shop today as I've not seen her in a long time. We were very excited to receive these. Brought them home... Well, it wasn't what we were expecting. Hard potatoes not cooked through. Very fishy tasting oil soaking the food. Thick gloopy batter dripping in fat surrounding a fish that was so dry and I hard, it wouldn't even cut with a steak knife. I'm sorry to say, this fish bar has lost customers that have been going for years.

No way was that cod it was pollock rubbery and half cooked chips pale and soggy really need to change the oil as been ill all afternoon 2nd time now so one to avoid

Sadly this chippy just isn't up to standard. Expect thick, mushy batter and rubbish chips unfortunately. Our meal was very disappointing Happy Cod has a lot of work to do before competing with the other good chippies in Uckfield and me considering ordering from them again

I really hate it when you’re charged for Cod but given Pollock - it’s actually fraudulent. And it’s even worse when the batter is mushy and the chips aren’t fully cooked either. On top of that all 7 people behind the counter were not wearing masks and the 4 who returned from making deliveries didn’t wash their hands before serving people with food. We won’t be going there again - a total waste of money

Oh dear I’m afraid I have to agree with other reviewers that the chips and the batter were indeed soggy. The neon coloured orange batter seemingly a pre bought product was thick and stodgy and raw under the surface. The chips a mixed bag of small but over cooked and large bits undercooked and crispy. I know it’s changed management but regret this has not been at the benefit of the food :/

We thought this was great when new owners took over and started cleaning, painting and generally tidying everything up. Ooohhh my god we were wrong we ordered burger and chips, cheese and onion pasty and chips. Firstly my wife asked what vegetarian options do you have then said oh you do vegetable pancake roll (as it states on the menu) ill have that, then the owner said "no its vegetable and beef"... um maybe just a thought guys but write that on the menu. The pasty was a flat flaccid thin role of pastry which had once encountered a cheese filling but that had since moved out. The Burger was a very cheap burger I mean cheaper and lesser quality than a boot fair burger van, then we come to the worst bit... the chips were hot... well done!! but they were so soggy and anaemic almost like they were steamed, I mean we have never seen such a poor chip shop chip and being chippy you would think that would be the first skill learnt, we ate a couple and binned the rest. Such a shame as it would be a great local chip shop that would of owned the local market if done well. The picture we attached actually make the food look better

New owners with a chance to impress. What a disappointment! Absolutely shocking for a Friday night at 7pm. Soggy chips, soggy bartered fish,avoid at all costs.

This is a consistently good fish and chip shop. Huge portions of chips, and my husband reports that the burgers are good too.

The worst fish and chips ever. COD was cold, scampi disgusting taste slimey and in edible. Chips cold and clearly re heated all end bits as well. Would never go back 😡 Don’t go there.

I was staying nearby and had been warned that this was not the best but it was raining and nearby so I thought I would try it. I ordered fish and chips - medium size and took it home wrapped in traditional style. The piece of fish was quite large and the fish itself was okay but the batter was like leather. It was also very greasy. I ate some of the fish and a bit of batter. The chips were better but not fantastic. Most of the meal ended up in the trash.

I live just down the road from this place and honestly I do not know why I go there, probably because it's so close . However over the 4 years I have lived here it has just got worse and worse. Each time I eat their food I sware I will never return but tonight that's it the food is desperate and just very poor. Grease grease grease. God only knows how this establishment continues.

Dry fish in thick greasy batter. Mountains of soggy chips. Cooking kebabs in the shop somehow taints everything. Very inexpensive but not a traditional chippy taste and texture. Perhaps they put better stuff out at peak times, this was a Monday evening, but having given this a try every few months for a while now we'll steer clear in future.

This is a very friendly Fish and Chip shop. There food is always excellent and the staff are always friendly. There prices are very good as well.

best price at lunch time in uckfield, large portions, white skinless fish which is cooked while you wait so perfect

Think they are making an effort with enlarging the menu choice from the usual fish and chip shop. Generally speaking they do have a monopoly in this location as there's only a Chinese for competition, so they should be able to do very well, but it doesn't seem so as the wait for chips can be unusually long despite very few customers and I don't think this is planned as cooking to order.

Pescado y patatas es bastante fácil de hacer y bastante difícil de conseguir así drásticamente malo pero Bar pescado framfield uckfield en este último ha conseguido!

No está mal para un rápido servicio. Porciones generosas de patatas fritas, pero pasta de pescado deja un poco que desear, han tenido mejor. Parece tener una mayor variedad de complementos que la mayoría de los tiendas chip pero hay mejores alrededor localmente. Se prueba algo más que la próxima vez pescar y ver cómo va.

My son loves the sausages at this restaurant. The staff are friendly and very helpful and accommodating. Great quality and affordable.

Went in here for cod & chips for my parents - large portion of chips but the fish was not cooked and the batter was inedible very disappointing one to avoid just after opening as the leftovers from the early opening are visable and reheated chips are not good Better places to go sorry

I don't understand what everyone's bad reviews are about?! I live 5 minutes down the road from the chippie, and most days i end up getting something from there as it is SO cheap and mouth watering! I always get a small chips and a double cheese burger. A small chips can be split 2 ways! They're so so so generous with their portions! A double cheese burger fills me up when only half way through. They have been voted 4th best chippie in East Sussex for a reason! All the staff are lovely and friendly in there. Have never once had anything negative to say about anything in there. Even on the weekends when it is busy they get your order done very promptly. You can't expect them to have it ready in 2 seconds! No food place is THAT quick! Be patient and take into consideration how many people are in there before you waiting for their food. If they're food was as awful as some people are making out then there wouldn't be a Que! If i could give it more than 5 stars i would! #1 chippie in Uckfield for a reason!!!

As many reviewers have said before this is one of the worse chip shops in the area. The chips tend to be very soggy, I suspect the fat isn't hot enough and this may be the reason. Some of the staff are ok and will have a chat with you, others can be just plain unfriendly. There isn't an atmosphere here, although there is a small sit down area if you want to eat your food indoors. All in all I would give this a miss and visit the other chip shops in Uckfield.

Two words : "lunchtime special".£3 for fish and chips. £3. THREE POUNDS!!!Now a regular Friday lunchtime treat for the office. Its always hot, always freshly cooked, always good. Was expecting to get something the size of a goldfish but ended up with Moby Dick's big brother in batter. HUGE portions. And for £3! God knows how they do it.Bargain of the century and very happy campers. Did I mention its £3??

We were recommended this place over Riverside Fish Bar. We had fish, cod, battered sausage. The chips were cold and undercooked. The cod was ok once you took of the soggy batter. The battered sausage looked like it had been dipped into cement! Avoid at all costs!

We have been to Uckfield Fish Bar twice in the last couple of weeks. The first time we went just for Pukka Pie's and we cooked our own chips; the Pies were a bit hard but we put it down to bad luck and went back again. We had pies again with a sausage and chips. BIG MISTAKE. The chips were stale and hard, they tasted like they had been re-cooked from last week and the pies were again hard and inedible. The quality of the food is shocking at best and made us both ill. Avoid.

Quite possibly the worst fish and chips in the area!Chips all stuck together in a large clump. Batter soggy and watery. It depends what time and what day you go. On the odd occasion the chips can be ok if cooked fresh. Supposably this chippy has won some sort of award! I've never had anything from there worthy of praise. Steer clear. You have been warned!

From the outside it looks just like any fish and chip shop. Then you notice the lunch time specials board up to 2pm. Cod and Chips £3. Cheese burger and chips £3 amongst others. Well for that price you would expect a small portion and this is where you would be happily wrong. The portions are indeed very generous. Often when I have been in they have fried it fresh for me. The staff are always friendly and helpful

Normally opt for there lunch time deals at £3 for rock'n'chips... great portion for that price :-)Always freshly cooked when ive popped by and even better being on my doorstep

Just had a takeaway from here and it was very busy. I had cod and chips and the chips were nice although I suspect part cooked as they were a little soggy. A large cod was a generous enough portion but it clearly had been under the heat lamp for a while which doesn't do a very good job at keeping things warm. By the time I got it home, maybe 6 mins, it was only just warm. The oil they were using today needs changing as it tainted the meal leaving a kind of hazelnut/sesame seed like taste to everything. Overall it's ok

We live around the corner from the chip shop, but it's a bit hit and miss sometimes the chips are good but sometimes there not. The fish and sausages are good. But best of all is there kebabs 10 out of 10 for them. I would give the place 5 star if it was just for the kebabs.
