Rose's Fish Bar in Wealden

Recommended by family member who has been many times before. We took a ride out from Dartford to Eastbourne and stopped off here to see for ourselves what the fish was like. We knew it was cash only so not a problem. We arrived when it opened at midday and placed our order and it was cooked to order and brought to our table. The entire meal served on a warm plate and food nice and hot too and served directly from the fryer. We had the cod which was cooked to perfection, with light crispy batter and flakes of white fish (no grey in sight like some other fish we have had elsewhere). Chips so nice, proper chip shop chips and all washed down with a nice cup of strong tea. If you’re in the area or out for a drive as we were, then definitely pay this place a visit. Nice warm and friendly welcome is waiting for you and some smashing fish and chips.

Not been for a while as fish and chips for is about £50 but had a medium cod and chips and it was surprisingly nice. Went here about 10 years ago and it wasn't too good but was very good and only had to wait 10 mins.

Fancied fish and chips on our last night of holiday, read the reviews some abit ridiculous! So went with gut feeling (hunger pains lol). Both me and hubbz had haddock, small chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. Great value for money and really tasty ( probably the best weve had) not a frozen chip in sight lol. Unfortunately did not see Rose either (joke see other review), haddock freshly cooked to order and the staff ,,, well they were all lovely especially the girl serving us that noticed I was in alot of pain and checked I was ok,,, even advised my hubbz to give me a foot rub 🤣 20/10 guys well done keep up the good work and ignore the haters!!!

Nice staff and service. Just a shame about some of the customers waiting.... Obviously had been to the Aqua bar watching the football. Drunken numpties!!

We sat in for fish and chips , all cooked to order. Perfect fish and chips couldn’t fault it. Very friendly staff, would definitely recommend

The fish was top. cooked really well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate in so an extra charge was added.

The cleanest fish & chip shop I have ever been into. The service was very professional and organised. Plenty of options for kids, whether eating in our out. Of course its busy during holiday season, so be prepared for a little queue if you are waiting to take out. Seating for about 30 odd people inside, and again, spotlessly clean.

My first time yesterday grabbing chips here and it was brilliant. Staff really friendly and welcoming, we took out chips and sausages to have dinner on the beach and they were so tasty and fresh! Great price especially as all fish&chips shops have gone up! Definitely be back again.

The staff are rude, completely unaccommodating if you have any allergies - they dont even provide an allergy menu! Only accept cash and tell you to order online if you want to pay by card! Certainly would not recommend.

The medium size cod filled the plate and the batter crispy with little fat,chips cooked just as I like them. Seating area small but not cramped. Clean and tidy. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices.

Best fish I’ve every had, and trust me, I’m an expert on fish and chips! Had a takeout but the fish was still firm and crispy when we got it home, not the usual soggy cloggy mess you usually get! Very very nice

Pevensey Bay Fish & Chips “Luxury” Take Away offers excellent Fish at a high price. £40 for 2@ Fish Chips & Peas + 2 Sausage, Curry & a portion of Chips ? Overall average food at a high price.

Warm, friendly welcome, fast efficient service. The meal was excellent, superbly prepared and presented, and absolutely delicious. Fish was nice and 'meaty' and the chips spot on. Reasonably priced, this was top quality food in a clean, attractive restaurant. It was wet and miserable outside, but a visit here was like a ray of warm sunshine!

Food was amazing and the wait time wasn't terrible compared to some other chips shops. We forgot an item when we walked out and the staff chased us to give us it :)

The most organised fish and ship ever! We phones through a big takeaway order and it was on time, 100% correct and the lady behind the counter couldn’t have been more friendly and efficient. Thank you!

First visit to Pevensey bay as we looking to purchase a residential park home nearby. Called in Saturday lunchtime very clean and nice ambiance small dining area. Fish and chips were fabulous very fresh and a good taste. Will definitely become one of our regular dining spots.

Was passing by and stopped to get a classic fish and chips from this place. There was no Rose around, just two chaps. The fish was large, above average, but it was still swimming, in oil unfortunately. Tasted good and it was fresh, excepting the oil.. A generous amount of chips and perfectly cooked. 13£, Only cash, no receipt unfortunately.

Ordered a take away- a large cod, a large chips and a jumbo sausage. The sausage was OK- have had better but the cod was sublime! Probably the best piece of cod i have ever had in a fish n chip shop. It was 9.50 to takeaway but it served two hungry folk and a pensioner who doesn't eat much! Thick, lustrous firm cod flesh, perfectly cooked, not remotely greasy- just fabulous. The chips were also great- not greasy and all freshly cooked- we were happy to wait for the ten minutes whilst it cooked up fresh. Would have gone back again had they been open on a Sunday as it was that good. As surprised to read other reviews but a lot of the negativity appears to be based around the fact that they are cash only rather than the food itself.

Fab place, so much more than fish and chips. Chicken fillet meal has the most delicious home coating, they are cooked order, and one out of the bun as they are a generous size. Very friendly counter staff and cooks. We enjoy eating here and have never had cause for concern. Note bring CASH, and it gets very busy Friday & weekend.

I was a pretty regular customer but unfortunately will not be using Roses fish bar again .Apparently they offer OAP fish and chips deal during lunch time but you are not allowed OAP fish and chips deal after 4pm. Also it’s cash only surely this cannot be legal.

One of the worst portions of cod and chips I’ve had for a long time, cod dry and stringy, chips no better. Why cash only?, haven’t Pevensey Bay businesses caught up with modern trends. Charged £1.50 to draw cash from machine two doors up, totally disappointing experience.

Best fish n chips around simply can't be beaten on flavour...if you have never tried your missing out.

Rose's Fish Bar provided 24 boxed lunches for a 70th Birthday celebration - various choices for adults and children. We pre-booked and the food was ready to take-away at exactly the arranged time, all fully labelled and delicious for us all. We could not fault the service or quality of the food and they made our celebration so easy and all the more special.

Ordered food was told 10min. Wait, waited30mins. Fish didn’t taste very fresh,bit overcooked and dry, bit pricey for fish and chips . Sorry.

This is the only fish bar in Pevensey bay but IF there was another one it would struggle to be as good as this, yes a little bit more in cost but it's a small village and all the food, burgers fish and for me the chips are is cooked to perfection

Lovely fish and chips, clean and staff lovely, but said £9.20 or something like it on menu on the table for fish and chips to eat in, came back and had been charged £32 for 2 fish and chips, mushy peas and a can of fanta, my partner had queried it and been told that was the eat in price. Legally surely the menu price on the table is the only one they can charge?

Weirdest chips I’ve ever had from a chip shop. Tasted and had the texture more like frozen oven chips. Cash only is annoying. Plus, they charge an extra £1-2 to sit in. We paid £9 for chips & gravy which is a bit ridiculous… Not much else in the area so what can ya do

Just got pie and chip takeaway from here which frankly was disgraceful! Chips had been cooked some time ago and were dried out and rubbery and lies not much better. Will not return and would advise others to steer clear - they are clearly frying their chips in mass and storing too long before serving Horrible !!!

Wonderful atmosphere kind and friendly staff. Menu layout was easy to read. Very clean and tidy everywhere. Main seating area was sealed off not sure why but was getting take out anyway to sit on the beach. Cash only. Got the classic cod and chips, couple of battered sausages and extra chips. All very well done and not a long wait time. Great location right on the seafront.

To late to sit in but had a take away and ate watching the sea. The fish and chips were lovely. The place is spotless.

Cash only why? They are running a business. Told to go to local cash machine. If you only use a smart phone there’s nothing they can do. Poor customer service. Very very expensive.

I have been using this fish & chips for years & they are impeccable! They do great portions & their chips are great!

Amazing freshly cooked to order fish. Not cheap but one portion easily enough for 2 to share. Highly recommended.

The "Rock Salmon" which is now called Huss is delicious as always and a good portion of chips even though it says small.

Beautiful food, nearly closing so no real atmosphere

Excellent fish, crispy fried. Typical English fries. The scampi were mediocre, 7 of the 10 were empty. (empty shell only) So quite expensive, £8 for 7 scampi. Staff are very friendly.

This is our favourite fish and chip shop ever. Quick service, good quality and nice people. Only downside is cash only but you can take cash out for free in the post office next door. Makes for a great picnic on the beach

My first visit to Rose's at Pevensey. The ladies who served me were lovely and efficient. I chose to dine 'in' having a large cod & chips. Beautifully fresh fish with a lovely crisp batter. And all complimented with excellent chips. I shall certainly return and highly recommend!

This used to be excellent but in the past year they’ve doubled the prices and halved the quality. We always made a beeline for Roses when visiting Pevensey Bay but, based on our last couple of experiences, we won’t bother with it again. I also wonder how they get away with a ‘cash only’ sign in the window. Is that legal? Do HMRC know about this?

Always freshly cooked when I visit, which is outside peak times! very generous portions, tasty food with friendly and prompt service. The staff and the food are great, but cash only, come on guys, time to join the digital age!

It's okay. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't the best chippy I've had. You have to pay extra to eat inside, which we didn't realise until after we had paid and had sat down.

Large range of food not just Fish & Chips, but also Burghers etc. Good quality. Would use again if in the area.
