John's Fish & Chips in Wealden

Bit greasy the fish if I'm honest very busy, young lad cooked up my order but heyho asked for three cod & chips and two battered sausages with chips and ended up with battered sausage and chips twice lol. Easy mistake I guess .

Pleasant staff serving standard chippy fair, decent portions, my only criticism would be that my cod was a bit on the thin side...medium cod, chips and mushy peas £12.50

Don't ever try buying chicken from here. It's was absolutely vile. Dry as a bone with no flavour at all. The worst I've ever had anywhere.

Have to say after my first delivery of fish & chips I was very disappointed but, my opinion has since changed. Had fish & chips last night & it was delicious. Couldn't fault it. November 30th 2023. Waited 1hr & 30mins for our order that arrived warm! NOT IMPRESSED!

These people are the best chip shop, everything is hot without waiting forever, be careful of the other chip shops with there fake brought reviews.

Very busy, there was a queue going out the door, but the staff were quick and efficient, so we didn't wait long. Yummy food too. Gluten free options available

Fabulous chips - triple-cooked perfection - what a wonderful surprise - fish was excellent too - firm, meaty, flakey cod, very fresh.

Large cod was hardly edible and had a yellow flesh, not up to their usual standards.

Just ordered a takeaway for three from John's and we're really impressed. From ordering online to delivery was less than twenty minutes. We had medium cod and regular chips, also spring rolls with halloumi bites chips with curry sauce, they were all delicious and piping hot with generous servings. The batter on the fish was lovely and crunchy, the best I've had in a long while. Will definitely be using John's Fish and chips again. 🐠🍟🙂

We have been buying from John's for at least 8 years, but its not quite as good as it once was. Two specials ordered for take away - Fish was very dry with more batter than fish and the chips were just lots of small bits and pieces. Its now very expensive, £18.60 for two specials and a jumbo savaloy. Going to try somewhere else next time.

We were camping at Bushywood scout camp site with 21 youngsters and 7 adults after day at Knockhatch had 28 meals delivered. Fantastic meals all the kids said food was great. All very hot when we got them. Lady who delivered was very good and helpful. Will use again when we come back.

Best fish and chip shop around! The chips are so nice and crispy and big portions. The halloumi bites are insane, covered in batter honestly the best things ever. Really fast delivery as well

Highly recommend, The food is always delicious, very good portion sizes, no matter what you order. The Service, Staff and delivery Driver are always prompt and extremely kind.

It's a takeaway fish and chip shop. Does the job! It can be a bit of a wait (10 mins) when it's busy. They do gluten free fish and chips as well as halloumi bites. It's always been great, in my opinion. I think it's well priced as well, particular for gluten free food. I very rarely get to eat food like this, so it's great that it's available.

Would return after call making a complaint and being offed chips not the full meal so upset, never will return

Ordered for the family chips were lovely and crispy not soft n soggy and the pies spit on.

The delivery service is dreadful. Ordered at 6.00 & still waiting 1 hour 30mins later. Shop is less than 2miles away!

Great fish & chips at a great price

Whenever I’m in Hailsham, I always get Haddock and Chips for myself and my wife and we are never disappointed. The chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy potato inside. The Haddock is always cooked perfectly and the batter is delicious. I have no hesitation in recommending Johns fish and chips to everybody - they are how a true fish & chip takeaway should be.

Fish ok. Chips need to be better cooked, soggy and pale, they should be crispy and golden, not been for a while, go occasionally to see if they have improved, no luck.

Best fish and chips by far. Definitely worth 5*

Best Fish And Chips in Hailsham

We ordered fish and chips and I put the wrong address for the order ( was with friends and out of habit put my home address.) i phoned to find out what had happened to the order and I very quickly realised that the mistake was mine. Johns Fish Bar sent us a replacement order -,even though the fault was mine. The food was hot and really great. Thank you for really wonderful service and excellent Fish and Chips.

Was really looking forward to fish and chips as haven’t had for a while and is now relatively expensive for what you get and I have to say was disappointed as the chips and saveloy were cold and the fish was only hot when you got to the middle

The girl serving last night could only deal with one customer at a time. I was in a rush so left with nothing after already paid.

Our daughter lives near this fish and chip shop and we visited on a Saturday lunchtime. We had chips each which were freshly cooked and very tasty. Saw they have lunchtime specials at a very reasonable price so will be back to try them. Nice looking chip shop.

They deserve six *!! The fish and chips here are the stuff of dreams. Batter that is so crisp it shatters in your mouth, fish that is delicious and chips that are a meal in themselves. Friendly staff and a good price. It doesn't get better than this. ;) Since writing my review I've become gluten intolerant. Not a problem for these guys. Separately fried fish and chips in gluten free batter means I still get to enjoy a favourite 👍

Best fish and chips in the area by a long way no one else can compete

We had cod, battered sausage, curry sauce, and scampi. Food all tasted delicious and the chips were great. However, half of our group were up in the night being sick.

I went in to johns fish shop and asked for medium cod and chips and couldn't belive the price but thought I really fancy it then he dished up the chips got this tiny polsterine tray with about no more than fifteen chips in its said no sorry mate can I have my money back it was insult and I had the hump he thought he could serve that up and it be OK won't go there again

Gone down hill used to be very nice but know it is horrible our fish cam oily so much so fish could swim plus there was a lot of bones in them very dangerous

We only moved here 7 weeks ago . This is the 2nd time we have ordered from John's fish and chop shop . We absolutely can not fault it The fish is so tasty and cooked to perfection . chips are lovely . BY far the best fish & chips we had 10/10

I cannot believe how rude the lady we just spoke to on the phone was. Absolutely appalling service, rude, condescending and downright petulant. She shouted at us. Whoever is working the Jubilee weekend should not be answering the phone. We are disgusted and have ordered from John's for years but we certainly won't be doing so again.

The best fish and chips in the Hailsham /Eastbourne area. We always get the Cod special, which is very good value.

Over hour and half wait still not got phoned to check told it is not in shop so must have left did not even check rude on phone not helpful still no food!!!

Absolutely awful, ordered 1/2 chicken chips, large cod chips, saveloy and plain sausage, firstly had to wait ages for it, got home opened the cod and chips, cod stuck to the chips literally fell apart and nothing of it, ( definitely not a large cod) I saw her microwave the saveloy, plain sausage dry and rubbery, the chicken greasy, we all felt sick all night, will never eat there again.

Brilliant. Considering the Brits are known for their fish and chips, a lot of places don't get it right but John's certainly do! Beautifully cooked chips and a deliciously crispy, flavoursome batter. The cod special is just the right size and a steal at £4.75. It's great I don't have to travel outside of my town to find a decent fish bar 👌

Great fish snd chips, very large potions.

They were recommended to us. We had it delivered, still piping hot, chips lovely and fluffy. I had pie, other half had fish which he really enjoyed. Will use again and I too will recommend.

I don't know what has happened to this place, it used to do amazing fish and chips and other food. After having chicken and chips from there yesterday evening I have been up half the night being very very sick. The same thing happened to my husband a few months ago after eating a battered sausage from there. We gave it another go but after yesterday's experience we will not be back I'm afraid. They must have some serious hygiene standards issues which I'm inclined to report. The food was also very greasy and tasteless. You may do well to avoid.

This place used to be one of the best places in the area for fish and chips and other food, but sadly it seems to have massively deteriorated. Apart from the extremely slow delivery times, last night I had chicken and chips from here and woke up in the early hours feeling very ill and ended up being very sick throughout the night. A few months back the same thing happened to my husband after eating a battered sausage from there. We gave it another chance thinking we may just have been very unlucky, but clearly not! They obviously have very poor food hygeine standards. Oddly I looked through the official published list of food hygeine ratings and they weren't even on there. I am now going to contact Wealden Food Safety Team to see if they can investigate.

First time ordering from here and I got the large cod and chips with mushy peas and it was lovely! Also nice big portions! Would 100% recommended and order from here again!

We have always thoroughly enjoyed our food from here, but today’s fish & chips was a huge disappointment. The chips were wet and oily and my rock was more batter than fish. However, the cod was good. Perhaps the wrong variety of potato used?

Friday, so very busy. Great fish and chips. Had to wait awhile even though I was able to place my order straight away. Realised with waiting, that the take away orders, had priority. Staff were great and working hard to keep up with it all.

Unfortunately my dad used to order all the time on a Friday, but unfortunately now to on line ordering only ,he dosnt have his usual cod and chips due to the fact that he prefers to call 📞as due to illness makes him shake so finds it extremely hard on line .such a shame 😔

We visited here last night and it was excellent food, but it can can be hit and miss here, we have been there before when it was quiet and the chips have been re-heated, hard and crispy, my advice is to go at a busy...
