The owner is such a gentleman in this place. Other staff very pleasant too. Food is very nice hence why it's my favorite place in the town for a takeaway. They deserve good business as they are good people.

Called in for snack on journey home to Brighton. Had southern fried chicken, chips & fruit juice. It was THE best chicken ever & chips perfect. Cannot recommend enough. THANK YOU Riverside. I will never be able to pass through Uckfield again without stopping to see you. So friendly and helpful too.

We were staying in the area and had heard such marvellous things about it, so rushed back from an event in Brighton on Sunday evening to catch it before it closed at the advertised time of 9pm. We were pleased to get there just before 8.40pm, only to find all the lights out, the door locked and the staff getting ready to leave. If you're going to close at 8.30pm, don't advertise that you are open until 9pm.

Best fish and chips I've had in years . Chips are amazing ( big chunky chips crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle )and the batter on the cod was lovely. Cooked fresh to order . Owner lovely and free Chips with fish at lunchtimes whats not to love. Wish I lived closer

Just had our first taste from this fish n chip shop. Delicious! We had pie and fish and steaming hot chips and got given a taster of their southern fried chicken which was also very tasty, beats KFC any day. Great value as well and the service from all the team was excellent. We will be back again, thanks 😀

First time trying this place for chips, they were beautifully fresh, perfectly cooked and a generous portion. The lady serving was friendly and polite.

We love the food at Riverside, and everyone is really friendly. My wife is a Coeliac and needs to eat gluten free, so it’s heaven for us. We often have haddock and chips, the batter is really light and crispy, I would urge anyone to try it, you may find you prefer it. The gluten free menu is not limited to fish, the scampi is wonderful, absolutely lovely. So gluten free, or not, we highly recommend The Riverside Fish Bar.

Not great, fish and battered sausage both just soggy and not crisp. Curry sauce was fairly bland. Has been nice before but quite dire this time!

Not sure what has happened to this place, but last night was appalling. Two large cod and chips and a curry sauce should not be that difficult, but it was. The curry sauce was cold; not just warm, but stone cold as in it had not been near any heat at all. But that was nothing. The fish were in separate boxes. Fortunately they were also in a bag and then in another bag I brought with me to keep them warm. When I got home, the two boxes were absolutely wet with oil. The carrier bag they were put in at the shop was wet through with oil and even the thermal bag I had brought with me was drenched with oil and had to be thrown away. How can they manage to not heat the curry sauce and leave so much oil/fat on the fish when wrap it? This was probably the worst experience I've had from this place and I won't be going back any time soon.

Popped in on a Friday lunchtime. Very impressed with the welcome. Ordered Large Cod and chips whilst my friend had Jumbo sausage X2 and large chips. The food was freshly cooked and terrific value. Large portions, crispy batter and fresh fish. The Chips are chunky and filling. My friend said the Sausage was good quality. First visit but will return. Highly recommended.

Phoned up for normal and gluten free fish and chips on a Thursday evening and they were happy to oblige and frankly the best fish & chips we’ve eaten in years with great fast service at a good price with a very happy coeliac customer Highly recommended 5* well done 👍

Top quality food. The chef is very experienced and has worked in top restaurants, as well as a private chef. He’s a top man! I’d definitely recommend this place, nothing in the area comes any close to this.

It gets busy but the food is good, with a generous amount of chips.

In short we live 10 miles away but would always use this chip shop if we were nearer. Highly recommended for food and service. Parking is free for two hours in the carpark on the other side of the road. We arrived around 13:00 on a Tuesday and had a short wait. All good apart from chips appears to be cooked to order. We had regular cod and chip x 2 plus two children's meals a sauge and chips and a chicken bites and chips, the kids meals included drinks. Total cost under 23 pounds! Considering we paid 25 pounds for two large cod and chips in Haywards Heath recently this 23 quid bill for 4 was a bargain! Chips were good, seemed cut larger which was nice and plenty of them for a regular portion. Cod was skin on, I actually like this as personally I find it adds to the flavour. Batter was good, crisp and not too thick. The fish batter was a little greasy but I believe this was caused by serving to us immediately so as to prevent waiting time rather then allowing to drain off for longer so no point in criticism there. Fish was lovely, flaky and tasty. The man serving was friendly and extremely helpful and concerned that the children got what they wanted. Forget Maccy D and KFC, shop local. A 5 star chippy. Well done we will be back!

Honestly this place does the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, beyond that, it’s a chippy but oh my lord it does the most insane burger I’ve ever eaten and for under a fiver what would you ever complain about !!!! 12/10 would give this place your money!

Popped in today to get fish and chips for my mum in hospital in Uckfield who hasn’t been eating. I asked for a fish and chips but could I get a super small one but happy to pay full price. Rather than take my money for an adult fish and chips they offered me a child’s one for £5. Plenty of fish on it and more than enough chips. She absolutely loved it and went back for seconds. It looked delicious and chips tasted great (had to have a couple) Thank you

Christmas week our family had plenty of turkey, we were in the mood for fish and chips. I can honestly say riverside fish bar makes the freshest fish in a perfect batter and amazing chips full of flavour . Also we were all so impressed with the packaging the food arrived home hot and well kept together. The staff well presented, very clean and organised. Highly recommended.

Have had the Gluten Free fish and chips on several occasions now and is very much worth the 40mins round trip and 15-20min wait. Always a good portion and fresh taste with very little grease. Would always recommend them now.

I have been getting fish and chips for me and my family here regularly for the last 6 months. Anyone who is coeliac will understand my joy at finding a reliable, good quality Gluten Free chippy and this is certainly one of them. The staff couldn't be more friendly and are happy to take my phone order and have it ready 20 mins later, freshly cooked and delicious. The batter is so good, my other, non GF family members have it too.

Had a late lunch on a Friday and got to Riverside at 2pm. They so kindly opened the door and made our order despite just closing. Really friendly staff and omg the cod bites were delicious and crunchy chips. The cod was an incredible size and will definately have Riverside as my go to fish and chips. Thank you!!!!

The Riverside has always had great food but it has improved even more as it now offers delicious GLUTEN FREE fish & chips. This is cooked to order & will take at least 20 minutes as it's in a separate fryer only used for gluten free food. You can phone an order in & come & collect it or place an order & wait inside (they have a couple of seats) or just do some window shopping in the high street & then collect it. We've always found the staff to be very friendly & helpful too. They checked the gluten free batter mix for us to confirm no gluten or any other thing that triggers our allergies. There are so few places in Uckfield that will offer gluten free & this is a real gem! The normal fish, scampi & sausages are tasty too & all of it is at a good price. Open Monday- Saturday, closed Sunday. Were closed due to Covid 19 but have reopened.

i have been here previously and had a bad experience tried it out again the other week and found it to be a lot better than a few yrs back i will be continuing to vist

After a previous experience a year ago I thought lets give them a second chance as usual chippy was closed in high st. Dry , Luke warm , stringy chicken which was hard to eat. Once again took it back eventually got my money back after a lot of chit chat with a lady who said that's just the way we cook chicken. It honestly looked and tasted as if it had been warmed up from a previous days Cook. Won't be going back anytime soon .

We have been going to Riverside for years and have always been pleased with the fish and chips. Crispy batter and a nice crunch to the chunky chips. Generous portions and very friendly service.

Worst ever. Been going for a few weeks now. Ordered 2 cod which turned out to already be cooked or should I say re heated and chips which were the dregs and cold. We were both unwell later in the evening and nxt day. I thank goodness the fish was so awful we only ate a small amount other wise I’m sure we would have been really ill. The fish had the worst taste ever, would never recommend or go again.

A well known place not just for fish and chips, but for chicken and pies etc. There is some seating, but guess most is takeaways. Prices can be a tad high, but the daily specials are good value especially pensioners deals.

The service was great - :very friendly and chatty, giving a warm feeling to the place. I bought a pie and chips for £3. Great tasting pie (beef and onion) and a huge serving of very hot chips. Thoroughly recommended.

This is a good fish and chip shop. It used to be terrible a few years back, but now all is well. They do lunchtime specials of cod and chips for £3.95 and cheese burger and chips for a mere £3 which is really good value. I highly recommend this place.

Bought fish and chips x 2 to take away last night which had previously been cooked and in the heating compartment. Got home and served them up but they were inedible. The fish had dried up completely whilst the batter was not cooked properly. The chips, although home cooked had also dried up. Not satisfactory to serve up food like this. We won't be returning.

Always a favorite of mine after a late finish from work. The southern fried chicken is amazing and at a very good price. Never had a bad batch of chips too. Not too greasy and nice and chunky.

Service is always really quick, food is really good and cheap (£2.50 for sausage and chips is a bargain in my opinion!!) have already returned several times since first going a couple of months ago :)

Estuvimos aquí en el camino a casa desde el trabajo y pedimos bacalao y patatas fritas y salchichas y patatas fritas. Mientras la salchicha y pescado estaban bien las patatas fritas eran la peor que he probado nunca.

No variedad de pescado y patatas fritas, pollo, hamburguesas, etc. básicamente todo lo que podría esperar de un lugar.

Wanted quick meal the night before we flew on holiday to the States where the food is much more respectable! Chips must have been sitting there for ages as were dried up and inedible. Fish had also suffered from being around too long. Will try somewhere else next time.

Been here a few times, they are quite good. The potions are a little small for the price you have to pay. But handy for food if you are getting the train out of Uckfield or into Uckfield as it is a stone throw away from the station. Staff are warm and friendly and always welcoming.

Had a lunchtime special here of cod and chips and personally had some doubts about the genome of the fish though obviously I couldn't prove it? Either it wasn't cod or it had been poorly frozen because it was both mushy and tasteless. I've eaten here before so I know they can dIf your going to do a meal deal then at least let people know they're not buying the normal fair because it reflects badly on you when those same people want to buy from you at other times.
