I hate to give a bad review as we have been going here for fish and chips over the last 20 years. It definitely used to be the best fish and chips around, with lovely light oil free crispy batter, and crunchy chips. The last 3 or 4 times we have visited, which is probably over 8 months, things have changed dramatically. Maybe there is a new owner? It used to be owned by a lovely Cypriot family, who couldn’t do enough for you. Anyway, last night food was really bad. Thick soggy batter that left a layer of oil on the paper and pale chips. So sorry, but I can’t really recommend and 3 stars is probably too much.

Wow. There’s loads of reasons to admire the improvements to Margate as a destination these last few years, and most of all the burgeoning food scene. This place really exemplifies the quality, the passion and the buzz being created in this small seaside town. So much to love, but most of all the attention to seasonality, local ingredients and the attentive customer care.

What an experience, half-expecting Ant & Dec to pop out and reveal it was all a prank and I had actually won a vacation. To begin with, the table they gave us was too small for our group. We had to request forks more than five times, and when my starter finally arrived after being initially forgotten, I had to eat it with my fingers. They forgot two main courses and took over 15 minutes to bring them out, one of which was incorrect, leaving one person to dine alone. The place resembled a construction site, and the air conditioner dripped water on us, giving us an unintended shower. When we complained, they merely sent out a belly dancer to distract us. Despite multiple complaints, they still slapped us with a £51 service charge.

WARNIN. For the THIRD time on a SATURDAY in as many months the advertised OPENING TIMES times [both online & shop door - say Tues-Sat closing - first session - at 2.30pm] were not to be trusted. Each time I’ve got off work about 1.30, ready & willing to reach LJF by 2pm. Each time, right next to the opening times, has been s a note saying ‘WE ARE CLOSED’. So, CALL first! The current operation took over a couple of years ago from consistent, excellent [owner?] staff. In the new operations first year I was able to snag food, and the quality was fine, however, that’s no consolation. Won’t be trying to spend my money there again. Third time, & they’re out.
