Disappointing choice compared to other seafood outlets, not very tasty and doesn’t seem very fresh. Other seafood stalls we have visited have offered better choice and definitely appears fresher

Great little seafood stall, selling traditional seaside snacks. As well as snacks like oysters, cooked prawns and jellied eels, they also do food like dressed crabs for takeaways and a selection of fish rolls. They also sell a small selection of drinks, including Prosecco - all very reasonably priced.

Poor Quality seafood, mostly frozen. I expected more than that. First time of trying this outlet and will definitely be the last time. I would have been better going to Iceland.

Bit disappointing. Visiting on a Wednesday morning.. no oysters available. Stall claimed the last few had just been sold. How can that be with Whitstable just a few miles away. The whelks I bought were not fresh and had the texture of being previously previously frozen. I won’t return sorry

We now live in the North East and booked a week in Maidstone to go Back down memory Lane. We both had cockles, they were just as we remembered them, except The portion was bigger than the old China plate. Even Better. The stall now offers Oysters and Prosecco or wine, very good idea. Very friendly staff and spotlessly clean.

The quality of seafood here is second none. It is properly cleaned and delicious. The oysters are fabulous and are the best I have ever eaten in England. Been coming here since it opened in the sixties and quality always consistent so don't understand any bad reviews as they are nonsense!

For avoidance of doubt this isn’t a restaurant, it’s a stall with a couple of benches. Stopped for a seafood snack about midday after visiting the Turner. Disappointed that no oysters, even though the boards advertising “oysters and bubbles” were still prominently displayed. Settled for a tub of cockles instead, and they tasted great, but really not a substitute for oysters. Slightly off-putting remarks from one of the three rather underemployed women in the stall - she didn’t offer a card machine but waited while I found some cash, then commented “yes, people are using cash more now COVID has gone” (it hasn’t, of course, but her attitude didn’t seem out of kilter with how we had observed locals behaving).

Perfect for a walk along the harbour arm or sea front. My son likes the jellied eels, I prefer their tapas style specials, either way, really nice staff, fresh and with bread too. Go at high tide as the seaweed can kick up a bit when its low.

Stopped off here for a bit of seafood, I had whelks with vinegar and pepper, my wife had cockles with vinegar and pepper. Both enjoyed our seafood. Clean seafood not gritty, the fellow who served us explained how they clean and cook the whelks, DEL, I think that was his name, was friendly and helpful. I bought some more whelks and a crab sandwich, to take home with us in a cool bag. Decent sized portions at a reasonable price. There was a fair amount of choice of different seafood plus oysters. Nice seafood stall. Later that evening we had the crab sandwich it was very tasty and well presented.

We came across this lovely restaurant in the old town of Margate and....it really surprised us in terms of excellent food. We had the set menu for lunch at a very reasonable price. The chowder was incredibly tasty and rich of ingredients such as peas corn mussels and of course chunks of fish and potatoes... what a chowder should be! The main was swordfish mango salad and penne with prawns followed by absolutely delicious desserts...to lick your fingers!! We tried the local Kent brew Curious Brewer?... and it was the best brew we had in Kent for sure! Local Kentish cuisine with a Caribbean influence and absolutely great beer...fantastic experience!

I was planning a hen do to Margate, and wanted to make sure we enjoyed some seafood during our visit. I was surprised to find there were hardly any places offering just oysters, especially in a relaxed environment, but one place which did was Mannings. As it was a hen weekend I wanted to make it extra special so I contacted Mannings to see if they would come to our rented house and shuck oysters for us.Del from Mannings was more than happy to help and worked around our requests, even offering to provide chilled champagne/prosecco. He was quick to reply to my messages, and provided plenty of info, which was reassuring to receive before our stay.On the day Del did a great job shucking the oysters, and he was lots of fun (even posing for a photo with the bride-to-be).The oysters were fresh, plentiful and reasonably priced, with a good choice of condiments. The bespoke oyster service was a fantastic addition to our stay, a must for who loves seafood. I look forward to visiting Mannings again on my next trip to Margate.

Overall, Margate is great for visiting, but food is too much dominated by indian and thai places. Margate is by the sea, but surprisingly there is very little seafood. Apparently one of the best is Manning's Seafood Stall... well, I don't want to know the rest then. Ok, the oysters are fine, but it is difficult to get them wrong, isn't it. You just have to open them. The rest is just unfrozen shrimps and mussels. Nothing fresh. Tasteless... Avoid! Any Portuguese restaurant would provide much better seafood dishes. They could just steam fresh cockles with a bit of lemon, it takes literally just one minute to cook on demand.

Me and a mate were visiting a friend in classic retro British seaside town Margate, there was a vague idea of fish and chips and champagne with no particular destination in mind, parked the car by the harbour wall - and then there it was, the answer to the question. There are seafood restaurants, seafood shacks and seafood stalls. Mannings falls into the last category, you choose your food at the stall and then eat at one of the wooden picnic tables with a view of the Turner Gallery on one side and the seafront in the other direction, and what a choice of seafood served by smiling staff who clearly enjoy their work, you wouldn't believe such variety could be offered at such a tiny stall - the premises may be basic but that doesn't prevent the quality being sky high - and all incredibly fresh and unbelievable value, succulent prawns, anchovies wrapped in olives, well filled crab sandwich made with delicious granary bread, rollmops, little seafood platters, crayfish and the crowning glory oysters from Mersea at a quid a pop, as enjoyable as eating the oysters was watching the pleasure on our friend's face as she closed her eyes and sensually slid a couple of oysters down her throat, the first time in her life she had tried them.As we were finishing the meal it started to spit with rain so we headed into the Turner Gallery for top class contemporary art.

As ever the best quality seafood you could wish to find. been in the family for generations and still selling great seafood. The whelks are my favourite and they are still the best I have ever tasted including in France! Cockles, crayfish tails and of course jellied eels to a very high standard. There are also some tables to sit at and enjoy the food plus there is also hot seafood cooked to order.

best oysters for a long time, large and succulent. Crayfish tails bursting with freshness. Next time I'll buy a small bottle of white from the gallery, grab a bit of bread off a seagull and have a bigger lunch.

I often walk down to Manning's to choose from a wide range of fresh seafood. Friendly staff make it all the more worthwhile.

Wow. There’s loads of reasons to admire the improvements to Margate as a destination these last few years, and most of all the burgeoning food scene. This place really exemplifies the quality, the passion and the buzz being created in this small seaside town. So much to love, but most of all the attention to seasonality, local ingredients and the attentive customer care.

Stumbled upon this restaurant whilst on holiday, we had a gorgeous meal in a fabulous setting. Menu was fantastic, I could’ve eaten it all! Would definitely return if in the area again. Really great for all the family.

I came looking for a nice drink and some oysters. Something nice for early evening. I chose well. They were busy and I hadn’t booked but they were really helpful in finding me a space in their schedule and it was perfect. The Maldon oysters were delicious and just what I was after thanks to the knowledgeable young lady who put up with all my questions. The glass of local white wine wasn’t bad either.
