Newington Fish Bar in Thanet

The chips we got with our take away meals last Saturday were cold and half cooked their sausages are tasteless and far too expensive. Tesco’s Cumberland sausages are £3 for six and are brilliant so if you multiply the cheap crap sausages this restaurant is selling he is probably earning about 300 percent profit considering he is charging about £1.50 for each of his crap sausages and the parking there is very dodgy. But I do find the staff polite and pleasurable

Decided to drive here cos heard great things. Disappointing fish and chips. Fish batter really thin and soggy chips not great either. Was OK but only 2 stars for food. Friendly staff looked clean.

Had cod n chips in the little cafe at the back of the shop! Absolutely delicious, cod was pure white! Can't fault it! 👌

Top quality food and lovely people

Waited an hour from the time I ordered online to collecting it. A small order of 3 items, understand it's a Friday but just not good enough. Lady who served me did not apologise and completely ignored me when I first arrived. Worst experience

Lovely chips and very affordable

Definitely our favourite fish restaurant. Very clean and tidy. Loo is well decorated and clean. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Food was absolutely scrumptious. Cod was chunky and pure white. Chips cooked to perfection. Vegetarian battered sausages are really lovely. Battered veggie burger is the best I have ever tasted. Food was hot and not at all greasy. Can't recommend this enough.

Popular & worth travelling for. Can pre-order online. Many positives as per the information displayed inside the shop; established decades ago, certified sustainable fish, selected locally grown potatoes, pays living wage, fully recyclable packaging, 5 star hygiene. The food quality is superior to other fish & chip shops. Therefore not the cheapest, but never disappointing. The shop appears clean and well kept. Friendly staff, good service.

Amazing as always, all cooked fresh to order

£28 for a very mediocre takeaway. Consisting of a medium cod, should havebeen a large. Chips dry and tasteless. This fish and chip shop gets good reviews. But this was not consistent with our order. Will not return we.vote with our feet.

Our usual place had a power cut so decided to try this one as was supposed to be award winners, was so disappointed was very average chips OK fish had a big amount that was just batter and the mushy peas and curry sauce was just like water horrible, not award winners or outstanding in my opinion just average I did message them had no response you learn by your mistakes will stick to our usual one in future Sandys Folkestone the best around

The chips were soggy and sausages were cold ,supposed to be the best fish and chip shop in Thanet but I don’t think so plus for 2 battered sausages and a savaloy and large chips £12.70 was expensive

I had no great expectations of the product lets be honest chips are chips and the can of soda is what that is. By now any one who has read my comments. Will know my biggest gripe is the lack of customer experiential service, that said I will always sing the praises of anywhere that delivers good customer service. So here goes: the woman who served was blinding, down to earth, great big small smile, warm welcome, polite, helpful and genuine in her service to me. Good job Newington fish bar.

Eaten here for the 1st time today, and very impressed with the food quality, the price and the service. Will be returning again soon.

Fish was great, but the chips could have done with another few minutes in the fryer. Such a shame as the place is clean and tidy and friendly staff. Edit : I should have mentioned the large portions and good value. Maybe they were in a hurry and my chips just missed out. I'll edit my review again next time I test their chips out

I traveled from Minster as the best chip shop in Kent advert sold it to me I had Skate and I must admit it was Hugh but quite oily but that’s just fried fish I personally thought the chips were dry and needed more cooking ( I didn’t eat them) overall I would say it was an ok meal but I wouldn’t drive past other chippies to get to them But on a good point my whole meal was only £12.80 where the Chip shop in Minster want £15.00 just for the skate (rip off)

Called in on the way home from work and couldn't believe what I'd stumbled upon. What an incredible atmosphere! The staff were an absolute delight, laughing and joking with all the customers. Every time another customer walked in, the staff were on first name tetms with them and knew their usual orders. The prices were great and the portions were enormous and, most importantly, the cod and chips were delicious. This is definitely my new number one choice for fish and chips. I promise I haven't been paid to say this, I'm just blown away by this place 👍🏻👍🏻

The food, once given, was very tasty and well cooked. It was very busy but my experience of the service was not good. Others received what looked like excellent service so I will go back as the haddock and chips I had tasted so good.

Very disappointed with quantity of chips usually very good but the chips just about covered bottom of tray couldn’t see chips under fish and this was on both fish and chips I ordered, cost me £22.00 very disappointed

We visit this wonderful fish and chip shop every time were in the area. Always top quality food served by very friendly and welcoming ladies. Cant recommend this place highly enough. Cod, Battered Prawns, Chicken, Battered sausages , Battered mushrooms and of course mushy peas, everything always top notch. Never had a bad meal or even any reason to complain, which is so rare these days. Great customer service , Jen and Sarah are lovely and always welcoming.

Small Cod and chips and "lite bite" cod and chips both excellent value, great tasting meals. Very friendly and helpful throughout. Fully recommend, do not hesitate to visit for your fish and chip meal here - 5⭐ Be aware parking is not the best but don't let that put you off.

I can never fault Newington Fish Bar. The food is always fresh and tasty and the staff serve you with a smile. I travel here from Minster as its the best chippie in Thanet in my opinion 10/10.

Food is always great and still hot when I get home. The staff are always polite and friendly.

Fish and chips were really good. Curry sauce wasn't my favourite but that's a personal choice. I didn't go in so can't rate service or atmosphere.

This is my regular chippy and wouldn't go elsewhere. Chips are always really yummy and the other food is always well cooked and flavoursome. The portions are large so good value for money too! They have an option for you to sit in if you like, and 2 separate doors for entrance and exit to make the running of the customers goes smoothly 👍

You can't beat this place. Especially if you're in Newington and want fish & chips.

Apologies for the lateness of this review. I used Newington Fish Bar for my husbands 70th birthday party in Manston Village Hall in September. I organised everything with Claire. All our guests commented on how good the fish and chips were. Nigel delivered the fish and chips at the time we wanted and they all arrived hot, and were absolutely delicious. Been using this shop for past couple of years now and the food it top quality. Won't go anywhere else and always highly recommended to friends and family. I'm very picky with my cod and hate it when shops serve with the skin still attached. The cod here is cooked and served to perfection 👌 Staff are always super friendly and will even chuck in a cheeky extra at the end of the day if they have leftovers.

Excellent customer service. The fish and chips they do tastes better than the fish and chips sold from other fish bars. The people who work there do everything to a very high standard. Despite the fact that it is near a busy road, the atmosphere inside is pleasant and friendly. This fish bar is something I would recommend if you are looking for high-quality standard fish and chips.

Been here loads of times come down from London visit family. My wife used to work in famous seashell in London Lisson grove in its heyday . This is as good as that if not better . Prices very reasonable 3 us sat on with cold drink 3 cod chips etc £39 bargain . Cant wait for next visit . Shame not got one nearer home thanks . Tried all the others in ramsgate definitely best good service spotless clean polite

Went in last night (03/04/22) and the two ladies closing were an absolute pleasure. Kind, chatty and provided a great service. Unfortunately I am not local however if I keep dating the beautiful young lady round the corner I will be back. The food was top notch too
