I love the cosy intimate atmosphere when sitting at the bar area. We were attended throughout with offers of drinks and sauces. I 100% recommend the oysters! They were fresh and local. The hake was thick, seasoned and the salsa was delicious.

Worth driving from Bamburgh for fantastic fish and chips. You walk into the little shop opposite the coop and you're met with friendly people serving the best value fish and chips I've eaten for a while. Lovely big fish cooked perfectly in batter with lovely chips. Well done The John Dory đđ

Really lovely and friendly service today, on a very busy day in Redcar. Had to queue outside as they were so busy but we were kept informed and given a table quickly on the ground floor as we had our 10 month old granddaughter with us. Sarah looked after us, talked and laughed with the baby, took the pram so it was out of the way and was just really kind and helpful. The food is really well cooked traditional fish & chips and I couldnât pick fault with anything. My granddaughter was brought cute child sized cutlery, even though we didnât order for her (she ate from our plates). Just good service, great food and fabulous staff (who were coping brilliantly with the mass of customers). Would recommend.

Love seafood restaurants and it is so lovely to eat overlooking the harbour. Food and service were very good and with our visit being a Thursday night the place wasn't too busy (it gets very busy in season). Do not hesitate to visit here or their sister restaurant ((The fish shack) if you love seafood (other options are available). Thank you

Now I get the name of the place having the word shack in so I should not have been so surprised at some of the things that made me blink in wonder. Wooden knives n forks. Drinks served in the can. Shabby blankets outside. No shellfish at all on the menu. Maybe I expected more but when I'm paying ÂŁ25 for a bit of fish trying to eat it with a small wooden fork is impossible. It was rather over done and the side potatoes were over salted (and I like salt!!). So much so I could not eat them. My friends faired a bit better with their kedgeree and both said it was nice. What really did get me though was the service charge put on. Think it was 15% Not sure what it was for as we were seved 3 meals and 3 cans of coke. The cost was just under ÂŁ80. I had looked forward to a very long time to eating here and was so disappointed.

Visited here during our holiday in the area, and ordered 2 x cod chips and peas costing approx ÂŁ22. The cod was nice enough, but the chips were rubbish - tasteless, hard, like cardboard, and possibly heated up from the night before. We only went as the Skinningrove chippy was shut for the week. We won't be going again next time we're in the area.
