Feel very lucky to have this as our local chippy! Every time we come the service is friendly and the food is delicious. It can get busy but that’s just because it’s a very popular fish and chip shop, and it’s always worth the wait. 😍🐟

This is not a review of the venue itself or the quality of the service from the staff. They were 5*. This is a review purely on the quality of the fish and chips, which seem to have been voted 2nd best in the UK. Winning an award of 2nd best in the country automatically sets the expectations bar very very high. The quality of the fish and chips I had was nowhere near the standard of some of the best fish and chips in the region. The batter was not particularly crispy, and more of a doughy casement style batter, particularly on the underside of the fish... It was also notably greasy. The fish itself was mixed with one half of it rather dry, and the other half pretty decent. The chips were slightly undercooked and lacked flavour. The mushy peas were decent but unremarkable. It may well be that I didn't get to sample the "best" version of what this place can offer... One big factor in an outstanding chippy is consistency, and it may well be that consistency is lacking here. Overall I would describe the fish and chips as mediocre, a 5/10. Not bad by any means, but well short of expectations for 2nd best in the UK.

Had another lovely meal, I had jumbo sausage and a jumbo black pudding with curry sauce. My other half had jumbo sausage and chips, they never disappoint. Staff are really good, best chippy in darlo

Fantastic gem we found while staying at premier inn morton park. We was outstanding by the taste of the food as we found majority of the fish and chips shops in Peterborough where we live are tasteless.

Great fish and chips. Tasty, well cooked, good batter and the large fish was nice and chunky. Nice experience with a bench to sit whilst waiting for the order. And some tables right outside if you can't wait to take it home. 5 parking spots.

This fish and chip shop is probably in my top 5 fish and chip shops in the UK. Very nice and white fish chips are great as well. Staff are always friendly.

My brother picked up a big box of fish and chips for dinner about a week ago. There was a good amount of chips and fish for only about £10. The fish was delicious and was not dry or reheated and the chips were quite feasible also. The only thing that bothered me (personally) and made me give this shop an average score was the amount of grease that was left on the food. I picked up one chip and you could see how much glistening grease was on one chip alone. My brother and I shared one big tray. I could not eat very much due to the amount of grease. However, in my brother's opinion, the food here was excellent! He thought it was one of the best fish and chips he ever had. Had this review been up to him, this shop would have received 5 stars. To conclude, very tasty and fresh food, however it is a little bit heavy due to all the grease left on the food.

Visited this chip shop for the first time, After living down south we came up to visit family, we were craving fish and chips, as down the south they just can’t get it right. From walking in the shop we were greeted by a lovely friendly girl who served us, we only waited less than 5 mins the food was piping hot. The Cod was proper cod absolutely delicious. Can wait to visit on our next return . 5 stars 🌟

Chatty and helpful staff. Will (the cook) is very charismatic and gladly holds a conversation with you and answers any questions you have. food is fresh and tastes amazing. all the staff were friendly and smiley and were keen to assist with special food requests.

Great fish and chips at a good price served by very friendly staff, fresh as you order. Can only go when in Darlington as this chippy is not near me but well worth the ride out to experience the fresh food. Good size portions to fill that empty feeling and leaves no after taste.

The fish was fine but the chips were greasy and very pale.

The fish was okay but the chips were almost white and very greasy, my husband was happy with his but I would not buy them again as I felt sick quarter of an hour later. We got a sausage for the dog and he has been sick as well.

It's one of the busiest days for most chip shops I would assume. Hubby waited a while, but in all honesty, when he returned with the food, I was impressed. When I began to eat I was even more impressed. The peas were proper and the fish......Well I have to say it was not a budget piece, it was chunky and not hidden under a multitude of batter and the taste was perfect. A thoroughly enjoyed chippy meal. 👍

Great fish and chips BUT poor show that on a Good Friday they won't sell large fish. Preventing those who want to from sharing to presumably to sell more regular Cod? You are better than this sharp practice.

I had to try this place since it is known to be so good. Food was the best I've had in a long time (Asian fish and chips isn't as good as British dishes). If I get chance to go back I will place to save from waiting.

The best fish and chips in Darlington. The staff are always friendly, pleasant and efficient. The fish is cooked to order for you as is the rest of their menu. Telephone ordering if you need it. It’s always busy, but that’s the sign of a great fish and chip shop. I’m in the queue if the food smells good , and they have a constant queue of customers, and it is rare they are quiet. If we’re not at the coast for our fish and chips, then we go here. 👍🏻👍🏻😋😋

Been a few years since I last called here .. but decided to call in as I was passing .. staff so welcoming and happy smiles on there faces .. 5 star service .. chips crispy and nicely cooked .. not soggy like in sone places .. batter on fish crispy and nice to taste .. but fish was slightly undercooked.. another couple of minutes would of been perfect .. still enjoyed and will be back ..

Not as good nowadays. More money for less food since they done the building work on the place.
