Knockout seafood dishes in a lovely contemporary restaurant inspired by seaside art deco architecture. A fantastic meal that was very fairly priced. Excellent! ... Returned in 2025 and quality has somehow improved with time - absolutely sensational. Everything was absolutely fabulous... surprise of the evening was desserts! Far more delicious than they have any right to be. Buttermilk pana cotta was impossibly light and the chocolate fondant with pistachio was so rich and indulgent.

My husband booked this for my 50th birthday, a really special and lovely meal. The food was superb and I got a lovely card from the staff. Beautiful views and excellent service. A day to remember.

Super friendly and helpful staff. My Portuguese bank card wouldn’t work in there but they were super nice and patient with working out an alternative method of payment. The fish and chips and curry sauce were absolutely delicious. Possibly the best I’ve ever had. Certainly the best curry sauce I’ve ver had. It was one of the windiest days of the year when I visited during a storm. But sat inside you would never have thought how windy it was with that super thick glass they have. Very delicious and super comfortable. I highly recommend!

Mussels, tacos and fish and chips - all gorgeous. Only 4 stars ( should be 4.5) as there's always room for improvement! Love it here. Could only get a seat in the bar as hadn't booked on a busy new year's eve. Staff were very accommodating. If you haven't been, the main restaurant with its gorgeous furnishings and views is superb. Will be back.

Unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to try this place out because it closes much earlier than most restaurants in the UK, and I work. Sorry but it was never to be. Perhaps they only cater towards retired people. It closes right around the time most working people would normally want to book a table. I honestly mean this as constructive criticism. Surely a business wants to make money? It looks like a nice place but we can't do it. Also, the menu doesn't really look like a seafood restaurant in the sense that the rest of the world understands. It's a fish and chip shop that sells a little bit of.. like oysters. It just closes too early. Can't do.

Wonderful place though gets a little noisy. Gluten free grilled prawns were very good.

Visit us after making a reservation. Although it is a seafood restaurant, the smell was unpleasant at first. In Japan, it's the smell of the seafood section at the supermarket. The floor is oily and slippery so be careful. All the dishes are delicious and the portions are enough to satisfy even men. Even though I had made a reservation and it wasn't closing time, I felt a strong urge to leave early and left early.

place is beautiful and my server was so kind to me and my sister and seriously made the experience so much better, food was LOVELY aswell and place was clean.

Absolutely beautiful food. We ordered a real variety of dishes from the menu, traditional haddock, grilled haddock with a beautiful butter, lemon sole and a half lobster. All excellent. We also tried out a few of the oysters and immediately wished we had gone for the 6! Puddings were fabulous, service impeccable. Relaxed but attentive and clearly knowledgeable. Can't wait to come back!

We have take out with a family of 5 adults and 4 under 5s and the food and service was excellent, especially when it was busy, but it was busy because the food was so good. Would definitely recommend!

Petard! For a potato fried in pieces accompanied by cod - coated in rich breading and deep-fried - it's fantastic. I recommend.

Situated on South Sheilds seafront with a sea view, a great location for fish and seafood lovers. We dined on a Sunday at 4:30 and it was very busy with a good atmosphere. We ordered: Prawn tacos, crab salad, mackerel pate, cod and chips, garlic prawns, baked cod in a caper butter. All fresh and tasty.

We enjoyed a family Christmas celebration here for 9 people and were really impressed. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was fantastic. My lemon sole was the nicest bit of fish I’ve had in a while and the fish & chips looked amazing. The tacos were great too. Such a great selection, good drinks menu and plenty for kids, as well as an activity sheet that kept them quiet for ages! And last but not least the view is amazing! Will definitely be back!

This is the easiest review I have ever done we called in this afternoon we didn’t expect much to be open at 2 pm but Coleman’s was open and the restaurant was quite busy we got a chip butty and mushy peas to takeaway we sat in the car and ate them firstly they are a bit more expensive than other places and the portion size wasn’t the biggest that being said they were the best chips I have ever had they were absolutely unbelievable proper chunky old style chips with a golden colour and the mushy peas were delicious I would highly recommend calling in you won’t be disappointed

We have been many times and service and food always excellent. While they can't currently cater for gluten free they were very professional and understanding at our most recent visit when they apologised for not being able to guarantee that one of our parties meal would be free from gluten. We erred on the side of caution and decided to go elsewhere however the staff could not have been more helpful.

Went with a couple of friends. Food was delicious, a little pricey for fish and chips but worth the extra money in my opinion. Food was cooked perfectly, service was quick and polite. A place I plan to visit again

Fabulous food and location especially on a sunny day or early evening as the view out to sea is lovely. The staff were all very friendly and the service was excellent. The only minor issue is that the sound quality is not good. Think it could be because of the shape of the building. This would definitely not put me off going again

We dined here on Saturday and while the food was really good, there were a few issues. Overall the food and service were good, except that it felt very, very rushed. We were repeatedly asked if we were finished with our food, so that even if you put your cutlery down for a second to rest they were jumping on you wanting to clear away. I ended up just letting them take my main away when I wasn't finished - not great when spending £30 on a main! My wine was also taken away before I was finished and desert was taken about five minutes after it was served. We spent over £100 on a meal for two and were in and out in about 90 minutes, just not what you want for a special date night. Like I say food was great, staff were friendly but the fact we felt so rushed just put a bit of a downer on our evening so we wouldn't rush back. Can't fault the food, but being rushed out just doesn't make you feel like a valued customer but more like you're on a conveyor belt and they just want the next person in!

*A Religious Experience: Colman’s Seafood Temple, South Shields* I decided to set off on pilgrimage over to South Shields recently. My previous experience of this seaside town was the biblical flooding post-Great North Run of 2023 AD. Little did I know it was also the Mecca of Fish & Chips. I was warmly welcomed by the apostles of seafood, otherwise known as staff. As a fundamentalist, I opted for the cod supper, with mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce (none of the heathen stuff out of the squeezie packet). Cooked to order, and shortly after being anointed with salt and vinegar, I had my sustenance in hand within 8 minutes. The cod was like heavenly manna, chunky and caressed around angelic batter. The chips were sublime, comprising an unearthly inner softness encased within a crispy halo. The mushy peas completed the trinity; vitality emanating from their green hue. The refreshing homemade tartar sauce lifted the whole experience to ethereal heights. Bright and beautiful; the balance of mayonnaise, chopped capers, pickles, lemon and herbs was utterly divine. A real revelation for my taste buds, and no greater testament to a higher being. Amen to that.

Nice ambience. Good view. Friendly stall. I ordered half lobster. I had a quarter flesh, not impressed as it was pricey. My other half had fish curry that was well presented and was delicious.

Haddock and chips with a carton of curry sauce was once again delicous. Consistently good quality, staff are effecient and very friendly.

We had Cod, Scampi , Salmon, and Muscles, and it was delicious. Will definitely be back.

The food is absolutely delicious! We decided to get the hot seafood platter, and it did not disappoint! The view of the sea from the inside is beautiful. The service was all around great. I would highly recommend this place for a nice dinner!

Fabulous fresh fish, mollusc allergy ruled out a lot of menu, due to sauces and shared frier, but grilled prawns & grilled fish were superb.

Been here many times now, probably the best fish and chips I've ever had and everything else on the menu is excellent. In a great location and atmospheric building. Good service and friendly staff as well. Just remember that tips can only be paid in cash.

We just had a sneaky portion of chips to take away whilst a the beach for a walk. Nicest I've had in a long time, not greasy but not at all dry. We'll be back.

Lovely place to celebrate a birthday.

We arrived at just after half past 7 for my birthday meal. From the outset it was obvious that the staff did not want us to stay long - we were told we would need to order immediately after arriving. The food was lovely but I'd recommend going on a weekend in Summer when they might be more accommodating! I would highly recommend the scallops and suggest that you don't need sides as the mains are a very good size!

Having been brought up in the Mediterranean and in Africa areas, I reckon I know about seafood, but my first, and defnitely NOT my last, visit to Colmans seafood Temple, resrored my belief that all in NOT lost in this country seafood-wise, and that there ARE restaurants worthy of the name....unfortunately, exceptionally few... Along with exemplary service, patient and helpful advice, and a generally friendly, relaxed atmosphere, comes the tour-de-force of their fabulous, mouth-wateringly tasty menu! And what a veritable feast it was! Had an important family get-together to celebrate my grand-daughter's graduation, and the whole experience was absolutely superb and memorable. Thank you!...Will most assuredly try to find more events to celebrate in this way! A BIG BRAVO to all involved!

Qwolity not there for the second time

Sat outside on the benches which was lovely, be warned if you do this you’ll have some birds who make friends with you looking for scraps. Had fish and chips which was cooked to perfection.

Had large cod×chips portion was reasonable but not what i would call large more regular in my opinion could not fault service or quality nice white chunks of tasty fish chips crisp and tasty mushy peas were spot on

Excellent every time we've been. We usually just have cod, chips and mushy peas. We should something else but the fish and chips is sooooo good.

Fresh Oysters with a dressing of your choice are followed by the classic Battered Cod and chips with mushy peas. Beware, as it is a Temple, it can get quite echoey. The Colman difference is fresh fish cooked simply and possibly some secret ingredients in their batter.

Colmans exceeded expectations with its exquisite food. Every dish was a flavor sensation. While there was a slight wait for our starters, it was well worth it. The food's quality and taste made it a memorable dining experience.

ordered a hot seafood platter for 3, a prawn taco and mussels. The prawn taco is great. The mussels, i found a few undercooked mussels. On the seafood platter, most are good but again there are a few more of the undercooked mussels and one i have to spit out because of a bad smell. I mentioned this to a waiter who came to clear out table at the end. For over £110 food, well I don't think i will be back anytime soon.

Lovely setting and great food. Staff were very friendly and accommodating with the children. We had Mussels which were great, and humongous! Malaysian fish curry was really tasty too with a nice kick.

First visit with family. Nice venue, food all fresh and well cooked. The seafood platter was filling and tasty. Good service. Only thing missing on the platter would be a couple of dipping sauces. Will be back again

Fresh Sea Foods and Good Sea Views

Having a gluten intolerance l opted for baked sea bass and new potatoes l found service first class!

We arrived yesterday hadn't booked a table but we were shown to a table in the bar. My son is in a wheelchair and facilities are very good lift to restaurant which was very accessible. The staff were all very nice and service was very good not long to wait . We will definitely return

My wife and I had the most amazing anniversary lunch here. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and they had all signed a card which was a really nice touch. Fish a chips are the best I have ever had and the views were perfect. Overall all a very classy place, wonderful experience, and excellent food. We will definitely be coming back again. I would highly recommend.

No need for blasting music at us, suggest a more relaxing theme would suit the clientele. My option of going for the scampi was definitely a mistake, I've tasted much better from Aldi and Lidl, should have stuck with the cod fish.
