We came here from Newcastle centre to have some fresh seafood and Riley’s Fish Shop was an excellent choice in all aspects! We had a nice friendly chat with lady staff before our lunch started. Smooth wine and oysters of both types on offer were a must (not local catch but Irish and Channel). Then we prudently went through all the small dish menu :-) Especially scallops were absolutely splendid. Booking is recommended. Next time im here, I will be back for sure! Thank you :-)

We loved our dinner here at Riley’s Fish Shop! Every dish was delicious. We shared a few small plates, one large plate and the two sides and had just enough room to share a dessert, it was the perfect amount of food. We are looking forward to coming back with friends! One tiny detail that could’ve made our experience even better was if the servers checked in on us, asking if everything was okay or if we needed anything. We didn’t get the chance to order more drinks but we definitely would have if we were asked for a refill! It would’ve been nice to have given them our positive feedback in person if they had asked. Final note is the pistachio and blueberry dessert was one of my favourite desserts ever. 💖

A group of 6 visited to mark an occasion, however, the service of was quite bad and items were missing off some of the dishes. The starters were served at random and by the time we got ours everyone had finished theirs. All of which were cold starters, which is makes it even more disappointing. The mains again came out sporadic, and two of the dishes were over salted to the point it almost wasn’t enjoyable and by this time the restaurant had been empty for a while. Moreover, once drinks were served nobody came back to ask if we wanted more. We’ve had a good experience before, however for £400 this was not what we had expected. When asked how the food was, we explained the above and the server didn’t really make an attempt to resolve, and just said she would tell the kitchen. Really disappointing

Absolutely love this place. Fantastic ingredients, cooked and presented with imagination and to perfection. This time we had the cured halibut toast and smoked trout soufflé followed by the brill and the hake. Every dish was superb. Guest wine an absolute bargain at £5 per glass and the Akemi White Rioja also great value for the quality. Couldn’t resist the Basque Cheesecake at the end - probably my favourite dessert.

The best fish and seafood restaurant I have tried in the UK! Fish was very fresh and cooked to perfection. Side ingredients are simple and yet again made into something quite nice. My favorites are fried monkfish with butter beans, the apple ketchup was worth trying. It is a neat restaurant with seafood market feeling. Sit at the bar counter for some kitchen action!

The food, service, ambience were all wonderful. Unfortunately, at the end of the evening, the mood took a weird turn when I made a major goof by casually asking the waiter when they'd first opened. Unfortunately this innocent query led the far too astute waiter to remember my earlier review from November 2022, the slightly incriminating one entitled Possible End of a Marriage. I did own up to writing this review, setting out the salt hake debacle. but in my defense, copious amounts of alcohol meant I'd completely forgotten all about it. As of now, my second visit to Riley's (combined with the waiter's formidable memory) means the state of my already fragile marriage once again hangs in the balance, as my husband was, until tonight, completely unaware of his ridiculously embarrassing behaviour. The curse of Riley's slowly playing out....where will it end??

Complete rip off. You have to pay a deposit when booking. Following booking we tried multiple times to cancel via multiple routes (phone, internet, social media) with no reply. We even turned up to try and cancel. They still charged us £100 for 4 people despite not even eating and not being able to cancel. We are now pursuing compensation via other routes. We could not recommend this place less.

Having been to the “shack” I was eager to try the restaurant, and it didn’t let me down. Menu was innovative and delivered with high quality produce prepared to perfection. Monkfish collars to start, absolute genius, and the turbot and halibut we had for mains were excellent. Selection of sides seemed peculiar on first glance (wot no spuds?), but on arrival were perfect accompaniments (roasted cabbage….you have to try it). Only negative, the wine list is a little limited and over priced (£90 for an average Alvarinho?), but hey. Will definitely be back and can only imagine it will be buzzing in the summer.

Enjoyable but way overpriced: two cocktails, a bottle of white wine, two starters/mains/ sides, plus the automatic tip £172. We shared starters and the langoustines were so thin there was no meat and while the squid in butter was tasty it was reminiscent of 1970s Cordon bleu - literally swimming in sauce. The turbot was nice but that was literally it, a turbot on a plate. And we both had the pave potato’s.

We came here early August for a birthday and while the waiter was great, had just started and nice atmosphere, the food was so salty. I actually saw the younger of the two cooks put loads of salt on the fish almost covering it and hoped it wasn't for me. The potato side and mushrooms on the dish were also almost inedible and the same for my partner's dish. Starters were nice though, two different tartar style dishes. If you wish to contact me that would be nice as the mains were very disappointing and very expensive for what they were, also too many people to complain

Clearly you had a big problem with your website on the day we booked. We were on the Fish Shack site and booked for the Thursday 18th May. Someone then phoned to say that they had made a mistake and we agreed to change it to Friday. On looking at the web site for the shop it's obvious we were never on it. Looks completely different to the one we were on - the Shack. Moreover the shop was open on the Thursday so no idea what was going on. Having walked all the way down to the shack to be told we should be at a shop we hadn't even been aware of was a disappointment to say the least. Trudged back up the steps and got to the shop. A 'choice' of just 4 mains. Not really good enough. Service was fine and reasonable timewise but nothing to write home about. Certainly not worth the 'compulsory' 12.5% charge. We can see now why the place was nearly empty despite it being a nice Friday evening. Food was good but portion size was a bit on the small side and not good value for money. Overall gave it 3 stars but that's probably being a bit generous.

Noon booking, sat at kitchen bar where we could interact with enthusiastic chefs who were receiving the freshest seafood right off the dock! These guys know what they’re doing with these great local ingredients and they collaborate on the changing menu. Two types of expertly-shucked oysters, über fresh. Hand chopped halibut tartare was beautifully balanced with the smoky cream, salty eggs and lightly pickled radish - yum! Then four (only £13!) off-the-boat-wriggling langoustines, halved and grilled with garlic butter & samphire- perfect! Highlight was the seared monkfish tail on wild garlic citrusy pistou & pinto beans. A plate o roast (locally grown!) Jerusalem artichokes. Absolutely superb. All washed down with tasty local draught ales and a lovely Stellenbosch Sauvignon. These guys know their food, a gluten allergy was easy, but the experience was marred somewhat by their location. Anyone with mobility issues have to navigate steep stairs to the basement - god help you if you’re on the second floor! There are two front doors which were constantly left open by thoughtless guests and vendors, effectively blast-chilling the downstairs floor. Please don’t get me wrong - the food was totally worth it! Only the freshest local ingredients treated with total respect, in simple well-executed dishes I’d be proud to serve to a discerning clientele. I see complaints in here about pricing - ha! Portions are good and prices are 2/3 what they would be in the South. Keep it up, we’re already looking forward to our next family visit when the menu changes again! We’re still talking about this meal five hours later driving back South….

Quite pricey, but fish is expensive… For a fish restaurant, the savoy cabbage was the most surprising dish. Would definitely recommend it. All the fish was nice. I enjoyed the oysters, langoustines and the ceviche in particular. There is reserved seating upstairs or walk-ins downstairs. The restaurant looks newly fitted-out and the plates are really good quality. Service was a bit amateur at times. The the food is a bit expensive (I wouldn’t spend £36 on the turbot chop again) and it would be nice if they put at least one slightly cheaper wine (below £35) on the menu.

We enjoyed a fantastic 2 course lunch today. Top notch food, excellent service and good wine. The menu covered all bases and the portion sizes were just right - slightly too much for me, so the husband got to help out. My other half isn’t...

Excellent food, staff very friendly and helpful. Fish menu was better than I've had elsewhere in North east and better than a recent michelin star restaurant I visited.

Absolutely awesome. Not given to making reviews on food but I just had to comment on this. Monkfish tails, roasted beetroot, and potatoes green beans, spinach pesto and the most amazing flavoursome sauce or jus, not sure on the terminology but just the most amazing food I've eaten in forever. Prepared and cooked right there in front of me, from trimming the fish to seasoning and right thru to the presentation. Thank you guys!! Ian I'll be back.😁 Party of 3 the girls had the Lobster & Crab linguini....

My favourite restaurant in the north east by a mile. Food is sensational, service is fantastic. Couldn’t recommend it more. By far the best addition to tynemouth… since the shack anyway.

Riley’s Fish Shop was an amazing eating experience and a must try for any food lover or chef! Watching Chef Carlson was mesmerizing and his insanely creative menu selections were suburb. Got to also chat with the owners Adam and Lucy, they are wonderful people and so passionate!! Definitely give this experience a try and sit at the fish counter if you can!!

We went here after hearing good reviews. We were not disappointed the atmosphere was brilliant, very relaxing. The service was amazing and the food was delicious, more expensive than we would normally pay but it was worth it. The only downside was the 12.5% service charge, although optional you feel in an awkward position to say take it off.

Superb fish restaurant. Everything we had was well put together and incredibly well considered. Get a seat downstairs so you can watch the chef work.

An early dinner was an absolute treat. We had Toasted Sourdough with seaweed butter, unusual and very good. Who knew. Excellent mix of Dorset and Jersey oysters, with the Lambrusco rose aperitif. Plates of Cured Trout with gooseberries, Turbot with smoked cream and yellow beetroot...

This is the only place for fish and chips!. By far the tastiest I have had in many years. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, the staff are wonderful, attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. I will definitely be nominating them for Britain’s best fish and chips. I can’t wait to return

Been here a few times now and it is always consistently good. Granted it is on the pricey side but you pay that for the setting and quality. Popular spot so be prepared for some noise as it is always busy!
