Stumbled upon this amazing place on a Monday evening - what a find! Forget the tourist traps on the front - this is the real deal! So much choice and you can choose to have fish battered, crumbed or grilled. So friendly and the woman who served us started working there over 50 years ago as now owns it. Just fabulous. This lovely little restaurant is warm and welcoming with a family feel. It specialises in Fish & Chips but also serves an amazing range from Haggis and Chop Suey (pancake/spring) Rolls to Chicken, Scampi, Battered Sausage, Excellent Steak or Chicken Pies, Deep Fried Mars or Snickers Bars and, of course, superb Fish & Chips to take-away or enjoy upstairs in the restaurant which is dog friendly, always warm and bright. Being family run, the shop and restaurant is very affordable, clean, tidy a classic chippy (also offering special deals for pensioners). Give it a visit for the best local fish & chips and more! Tucked away in its historic little arcade between Greggs and Tom Owens’ greengrocers, a tranquil get away from the hectic everyday hustle and bustle.

This is a proper chippy. FRESHLY cooked fish and chips - the batter is so light and tasty. The ladies who work here are so friendly, even to someone with my annoying London drawl :-D . I have to say I won't be going anywhere else for my fish and chips when I'm up here - Arcade Fish Restaurant has my custom.

Friendly staff, food was piping hot and full of flavour. Highly recommended as this is my go to chippy when visiting Whitley Bay

Perfect place. Found it on google maps and liked the pictures so I figured I’d give it a go with my family as it’s our first time in Newcastle especially the coast side and we wanted proper fish and chips. This really is some of the best fish and chips I’ve had and the service from the owners was 10/10. Lovely women and great quality food. You can tell they’re the original chippy of Whitley Bay. The sit in special of fish and chips, buttered bread with a strong cup of tea was under £8. Solid value for money.

Called in here teatime, we both had haddock and chips, cooked to order. Batter was lovely and light, I prefer the fish skinned, but that's a personal preference, and tasty chips. Much better than our last experience at the chip shop in Seaton Sluice.

This is the only place for fish and chips!. By far the tastiest I have had in many years. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, the staff are wonderful, attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. I will definitely be nominating them for Britain’s best fish and chips. I can’t wait to return

This is the best Fish 'n' Chip shop in Whitley Bay... They still fry in the old traditional way with Beef Dripping... My family have been using this Chippy for as long as i can remember.. Even as a child i remember sitting upstairs in the restaurant at the age of 10 i am now 55... The staff are very friendly and will FRY Fresh anything that is asked for as long as its on the menu.. They will also fry fresh when something is looking old in the show cabinet and throw the old food out... They are the best value for money in this small seaside town with a great product and service i will continue to use them as i see it good Fish 'n' Chips is hard to come by now just a shame that they are not open later than 2000 after i have had a beer.... But that is my only gripe... Keep up the great service and not ripping off the customer like most Chip shops are doing in this town Ie Cashing in on the cost of living....

Retro Fish and Chips as they should be, cooked in beef dripping and melting in your mouth, the finest chips I have eaten since my childhood, I can still taste them a week later. My only disappointment is that this place is not in my home town. Spotlessly clean and lovely people. My fish was deceptively large and was only a special meal deal, I left stuffed. Genuine 6 star chippie.

Wouldn't come here ever again, chips were held with her greasy mingen hands, being pua cheeky when asked for salt and vinegar, chips were greaser than the deep fat frier itself, tasted like the container It was in, might aswell just ate the tray, in conclusion to this I will never come again. I was in the area and am glad I selected this fish and chips shop. It was quite simply the best fish and chips I've had for a long time. The Haddock was cooked to order and the chips were cooked in beef dripping! The ladies serving were really nice and friendly. I only wish I had a chip shop of this standard near to me in the Midlands. Keep up the good work!

Called in at lunch time but walked out after watching the server run her fingers through her hair then pick up a burger. No gloves or tongs. Not good enough

Proper old fashioned chip shop with sit down area upstairs. Chips cooked in dripping, one of the last places in the area. Nothing like a cup of tea, sausage or pie and chips with a slice of bread and plenty ketchup.

Fantastic place to visit! The food was delicious, especially the traditional fish and chips. The staff were super friendly, and full of banter which made us feel right at home. Would highly recommend a visit, we will definitely be back to visit.

I had a simple bag of chips yesterday. They were nice and golden, brown,chrispy where they should be and soft in the other places they should be. I’ll be going back again.

As traditional as it gets (in the best way possible!!!). I myself have grown up down south with many so-called 'traditional fish and chip shops' that are actually just sad soggy scandals. I visited Arcade today and my faith in fish and chips has been restored! Tasty and fresh. And the service? As authentic as the delicious dinner I was served!

I was happy to experience a real traditional fish and chip shop. They deep fry everything and are generous with the portions happy and friendly a great experience.

Simply the best fish and chip shop in town

We have passed this place several times but never went in. Today we decided to try their lunch time special and found it to be excellent value for money. It was also very nice and the staff incredibly friendly, will go again

Quick lunch visit, quiet place but friendly staff, local and easy to find just off the main street, small cafe upstairs but was clean and comfortable.

When walking on the beach, my friends and I were recommended this place by a local. Lovely fish and chips at a very reasonable price and a nice, warm restaurant to eat in! The service is great and the staff are so welcoming and accommodating. Child friendly too, with high chairs. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be revisiting.

We followed the trail of positive reviews here. Getting a table upstairs was easy enough and we ordered our two specials on the way to the stairs. The upstairs room reminded me of seaside holidays from my youth. The fish was fried fresh to order and our cups of tea were served after the plates had been brought to our table. The batter was crisp, the fish was red hot, although, as the notices downstairs point out, they fry in dripping, so the brown oil coming off the fish wasn't to my taste. The chips weren't as crisp as freshly out of the frier but were proper chipshop chips and not frozen. The portion size was plentiful. Fish and chips with bread and butter and a cup of tea, sat at a table with table service for GBP 6.50 is value for money in my book. The two ladies working enthusiastically behind the counter were a delight.

Had fish chips and gravy there today and it’s the best I’ve had in a long time. The gravy was to die for. Not greasy and tasted amazing. Would highly recommend to anyone

Lovely little shop. Got served by a lovely pleasant lass who seemed happy in her job. Ordered 3 chip butties, large sausage and thoroughly enjoyed it whilst sitting outside with the kids. Will deffo be back 🙂

Came across this eat in chippy its down a side ally next to Greggs in Whitley Bay, the staff where so friendly the food was really cheap and cooked to perfection we had the set menu meal of Fish chips, bread and butter and a cup of tea all for £6.50 each,yes thats not a typo never seen that quality food for that sort of price in years. All I can say is if your going to Whitley Bay then this place is a must visit the 3 ladies who where cooking and serving are doing a fantastic job and all with some good banter.

Lovely old gem of a chippy passed through family for 100 years so I'm lead to believe. I used to go there at 17 years old and beyond some of the same girls work there still 30 odd year on possibly longer. It's not a flash shop but they know what to do with a tatty, fish, sausage even banana and mars hoy some batter in and woop

This place is a true hidden gem of Whitley Bay. Best fish and chips in all of Tyneside in my opinion. Food is beautiful.

Myself, my partner and 2 children visited today. We sat upstairs. The 2 ladies were really nice and friendly you don't get that these days. We got 2 kids meals (fish bites and chips, chicken nuggets and chips) big portion for a child! Plus a carton of pop each. I got a curry chip butty and a fish cake. Other half got a curry chip butty with fish bites. Along with 2 cans of pop it came to £25. I was over the moon with the value and the taste of the food. All cooked fresh to order. My son got a battered mars bar for afters. Will definitely return next time I'm in Whitley Bay. Thank you.

The best fish and chips in the entire area. The fish is fresh, and cooked very crispy, the potatoes are delicious and the perfect quantity. The cleanliness of the place and how well they treat you is something to highlight. But the quality/price ratio is unbeatable. I recommend it to everybody!!

We loved to eat fish and chips tea and bread in this place. Lovely restaurant with restaurant upstairs. Very well served as if it was your own home. Fish and chips are delicious. wouldn’t even give it a 1star food is disgusting staff are miserable my mince pie was still frozen then they asked me if i wanting it put in microwave this place wants shutdown

We had fish and chips with curry sauce and battered sausage and chips, absolutely amazing. Best I've had in years, and the curry sauce is probably the best curry sauce - ever! The staff were very friendly and customer service minded! Only downside is they use polystyrene containers but still had to give them 5 stars even tho I'm very anti polystyrene.

Had two specials, we enjoyed the fresh fried haddock with chips, bread slices, and cup of tea. We also ordered mushy peas and curry sauce on the side. Very good value for money. An absolute classic!

If you want the freshest of fish, the best (real chips cooked in dripping) such lovely service from the ladies in charge then you must come here. Forget the fancy sea front establishments this is the best and the prices are incredible value. It’s located down an alleyway so look for the board (fish chips bread and butter) it just doesn’t get more real.

Well what can I say , good food , brilliant staff , always so happy and welcoming and full of good banter ( have to be with my hubby) we tend to go upstairs in cafe fish and chip special is not to be missed , haddock always beautifully cooked when ordered and not sitting in warmed area , thank you Margaret , Pauline and co. for making our weekly visits so enjoyable !

Poor service, although staff were pleasant enough. Fish & chips were greasy. Plastic bread with a scraping of spread. The place itself is clean but I had to request fresh cutlery. Cheap offering, you get what you pay for. Customers at one table left their food uneaten.

Great plate of fish & chips. Had the special - Fish & Chips + bread & butter + cup of tea. Ate upstairs in the cafe - very clean & comfortable. Great service & good food. Just the right size portion for me for lunch, even a little bit much for my wife. She asked for a "doggy bag" - happily provided. Fantastic value for £5.90 each.

This is the worst fish and chips I have ever had, the fish was swimming in grease and the chips cold. It all went in the bin.

Went in on Monday with my brothers after our walk. Great 'special' of Haddock & chips with bread /butter and cup of tea. Can't fault it and the girls who work there very pleasant and helpfull. We'll be back in a few weeks time, wouldnt miss it.

Whenever I'm doing any work in/around Whitley Bay, I always try and get here for some dinner. I only ever really get a portion of chips (with a sprinkle of batter). Every time I've been the staff are super chatty and very friendly. Called in yesterday with a work colleague - as usual, absolutely spot on. Best chips in the area I would say 👍

The restaurant offered a great friendly service! The haddock and cod were the nicest and freshest we have had in a long time. As the name suggests, It is down in an arcade and may be easy to pass by if you didn't know it was there. I'm glad we found it. Highly recommended. Thank you!

I went into wait for my wife to have her nails done, I went to this chip shop in Whitley Bay, not only were they chatty whilst I waited my fish to fry when I asked for a take out on a very windy NE gale they said they were happy for me to eat in after I had paid for a take out. Me being me I said thanks and sat out in a gale eating one of the loveliest pieces of cod with a wooden fork I have had. No need to have wolfed it down as she texted me to day she was an hour late. Would definitely plan another visit when nails need doing again.

If you want the best fish and chips in the area, take a short walk off the sea front and visit Arcade Fish restaurant. The fish and chips are far superior to anywhere else, by far cheaper than elsewhere and the ladies were fabulous and made us feel very welcome. Not only can you sit in, they are also a takeaway. I can’t wait to go back!!

Having lived in Whitley Bay and Cullercoats for most for 40+ years I knew of this hidden gem. I took Lynne for the 1st time (she knows Whitley Bay well but not the Arcade) Ordered Haggis and Chips (given a small pot of curry to try with haggis on the recommendation of server...sorry didn't get your name but been there for 39 years and her mum 42 years?) All cooked traditionally in Beef Dripping....both myself and Lynne could not eat them quick enough. The only improvement would be the cartons, change from polystyrene type to recyclable cardboard (either trays or the type with lids) as the vinegar pools a little. My personal opinion. Apart from that the food was as I remembered it....EXCELLENT. Will we return...Yes Would we recommend...Yes
