Hewitt was recommended to us by another pub on the island (who don’t do roasts!). With a recommendation from a chef we had high expectations… Hewitt didn’t disappoint. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, from the minute we arrived to when we left. There was more than just roasts on the menu, but we went for a shared feast! This was a combination of all the meats - lamb, chicken and pork belly. A huge portion of roasties, amazing yorkshires (nearly as good as mine!), fantastically prepared veg and pigs in blankets! Mash and cauliflower cheese were also included . It was a seriously huge serving for two and we bought home. Good sized doggy bag! But the size didn’t come at a cost to the quality… the pork was so tender and soft, the lamb flavoursome and the chicken moist and chickeny (as described by my husband!). It’s a well presented restaurant, has a lovely ambience and well worth a visit!

Went last night and had trout, croquettes, and padron peppers to start, and sharing chateaubriand with chunky chips and all the sauces for main. It was delicious and the service was friendly and efficient. The bill was about £75/head and that included bread, water, a bottle of wine, and service. We need more restaurants like Cru in Eastbourne please.

The restaurant is small but very welcoming and the team is very efficient and friendly. While the menu is not extensive, it clearly shows character and well balanced flavours. We tried the beef fillet and pork fillet mains, cauliflower popcorn and prawns starters and I would recommend them. Very good value for money.

Beautifully homely dining room, with a great welcome from Rich and Rob. Home made Polish dishes served in hot and plentiful portions. Home made cherry vodka a gorgeous accompaniment to the Polish cheese desert dish. Not a huge menu, but that is welcome to me. The range is broad enough for anyone imo. I will be back. Highly recommended.

Tucked away just behind The Star Inn in Dinas Powys and near the village green triangle, The Humble Onion shares an entrance with the pub’s rear drinks terrace, which can be a bit confusing if you’re navigating via Google Maps—you might end up on a nearby residential street facing a brick wall. Look instead for the driveway by The Star Inn, where there’s some adjacent parking. The restaurant itself is set within a converted cottage, cosy and characterful, with a charming bar area, exposed wooden beams, and a slightly rustic banquet-style dining setup. It’s an intimate space, seating just 8 to 10 tables, and the menu is tightly curated: four starters, four mains, and around six desserts. We sampled three of the starters, all of which were excellent. The mackerel patty with crispy bread and beetroot was well-balanced, the potato and Parmesan croquettes came perched on a bed of sriracha with generous Parmesan shavings, and the boneless fried chicken—served with Asian slaw—was particularly good. For mains, the standout was the crispy lamb breast served with sautéed pancetta greens and garden peas. The sauce was delicious, though a little more of it wouldn’t have gone amiss. Service was warm and welcoming. There was a single front-of-house staff member on the night, who was charming though understandably stretched, especially with a few larger tables (a party of six, one of four, and a couple of smaller ones). For dessert, the mandarin cheesecake was light and pleasant, though not quite memorable. We saw the chocolate pudding pass by and suspected we might’ve missed out on something more indulgent. Overall, The Humble Onion offers a relaxed, enjoyable dining experience with a genuinely well-crafted menu. It’s small, focused, and full of flavour—a real gem for those who appreciate thoughtful cooking in a cosy setting.

The most delicious food! Service was so friendly and lovely, the restaurant is beautiful and has such a homely warm atmosphere. The food was unbelievably amazing, great portion size, and coming from from Poland myself this was just as good if not better than what I remember having back at home. My English partner also fell in love with this and we will be returning many times in the future 🩷 thank you so much!

Charmila looked after us so well. She is a sweet soul. Amazing food (prawn starter was incredible) and George the owner showed us around which we loved. He’s got a great thing going on here. A little bit of Portugal in Leicester. Lovely people!

Where better to go with very special friends than to introduce them to a five star plus meal out. My hubby and I have not been out in the evening for around a year due to cancer treatments so we knew when it was time to enjoy an evening, we would head to the perfect place. Fabulous time, great service from Suzy and Steve and a superb meal. Thanks to the chef (Suzy’s husband) and thanks for a great memorable evening xx

If you love fine dining and are in Ilfracombe this is a must visit. The Antidote is a very small restaurant owned by people who clearly love what they do. There's only 6 tables so booking is essential if you don't want to miss out (and believe me, you don't!). We had soup for starters which was delicious. I didn't take a photo as it was so delicious we just dived straight in! For mains i had the guinea fowl and my partner has the hake. Both were beautifully presented and incredibly tasty. For pudding we both had the pistachio and rose pudding. This was so light and beautifully balanced. The service was also fantastic, you weren't hurried at all and our hostess took the time to speak with us. All in all, we will be back for sure and would recommend to anyone who loves fine food. The value for money is just amazing too. A must visit!
