We had a delicious lunch here. Exciting flavours and beautifully executed dishes. Excellent vegetarian options. Tip - get some bread for the table to mop up the lip-smacking sauces in the Isle of Wight tomatoes & tempura brocolli dishes. The vanilla custard tart was perfection. Great friendly service and a nice atmosphere.

Early evening supper…delicious, brilliant, superb. Many more superlatives could be used. Examples of the stunning food: - smoked haddock beignets - Old Winchester tart with quince and thyme - prawn cannelloni with beurre blanc, scallop XO and pickled radish - smoked duck with beetroot and cavolo nero - aged sirloin with rosti potato chips and hollandaise (The steak was the best that I have tasted in years!) A really good wine list. Friendly staff. All in all…brilliant!

From the warm welcome to the delicious tastes of the menu, Tare Bistro didn’t disappoint. It’s always exciting to visit new restaurants that have been highly recommended and this was such a treat. There is an attention to detail at this restaurant that makes you feel you’re important to them and genuinely appreciated. I went for lunch and will have to return to try their dinner menu. It’s hard to pick a favorite dish from the Chefs Selection Menu as they’re all so good, and as each plate came out to eat I loved every bite I had. The food is so good, and the combined flavors of each dish are a perfect complement to each other. Definitely a 5 star experience for me and I would highly recommend Tare Bistro for anyone wanting to share a warm and refined dining experience. Thank you for a delicious lunch.

A warm welcome, knowledgeable front of house (Oscar) and superb food prepared by highly skilled chefs, thank you all. We had a marvellous lunch and our guests were super impressed. So pleased that the "tasting menu" is back, it was delicious, every mouthful perfect. My only reason for marking 4 star for atmosphere is that eating this amazing food was made even more special when all diners sat down together and each course served simultaneously. The old TARE set up made wonderful food even more special. That said, we will most definitely be back and please thank the chefs for stunning flavours. Thank you for reinstating this menu option.

We really enjoyed our evening at Tare. It was relaxed and unrushed. The food was delicious. We really enjoyed sharing the plates, especially the pork which was delicious , the wild prawn cannelloni and the very delicious pearl barley risotto. The service was really good, friendly and knowledgeable with regards to wine choice which also complimented out food . We also sat at the counter which I wasn't sure about but it was perfect for us.

A lovely lunch served by a lovely chap, manager I believe , lacked a little atmosphere as we were only ones outside but food is pretty faultless, beignet banging, cannelloni 10/10, everything else really nice, maybe a touch of salt here and there but that might just be me as I love highly seasoned food, can aways add can't take away as they say

Very small venue so we only got a seat at the bar. At times we felt a bit in the way as staff constantly walk behind you to get to and from the bar to serve food and drinks. Food itself was a little overpriced for what you got. Pork loin was quite chewy and the prawn cannelloni was more of a appetiser than a main as it was listed. However, the chocolate mousse was rich and nicely complimented with the tartness of the cherries.

Went for the lunch deal and I don't think we could have made a better decision. Portions were the perfect size, everything was cooked fantastically and the flavours were very well balanced. Very good value for lunch deal which started well with lovely and refreshing Isle of Wight tomatoes salad and tempura aubergine with ponzu sauce. Both starters were bursting with bright citrusy flavour which makes you reach out for more after every bite. The pork main was a posh roast with thyme flavoured potatoes puree and jus. Unfortunately the meal was let down at the end by the chocolate mousse dessert which we found way too sweet with the combination of the sweet mousse, sweet preserved cherries and sweet sauce. We barely finished the chocolate dessert and gave the feedback to the waitress but nothing was done to rectify the issue we had. I been to the original Tare restaurant before and I really enjoyed my experience before. I think the new bistro concept is a good idea to make fine dining food more affordable and I support that. I hope to see some improvement in the execution of food and service and I will definitely go back to try the food again.

We have been to TARE for the tasting menu a number of times and absulutely loved it. Five star every time – cannot find any negatives. So, it was a very sad day for us when we went along for our last taste of heaven! We were excited to visit TARE Bistro on our next trip to Bristol. Sadly, it simply did not work for us. The food was as tasty and interesting as ever – big thank you to the chefs who create such amazing flavours. In our opinion, the sharing concept simply did not work for these “plates”. The flavours are complex and you need to enjoy every component as it is presented on the plate. Once you start dividing it up you are loosing something – maybe some of the sauce or a delicate flurry of fennel which we could not separate into two shares. We ended up taking half onto one tea plate and leaving the rest in the original bowl so that at least one of us had a bit of everything. We had the lobster cannelloni - which was glorious, except that we had three small pieces - one piece had to be cut in half! Not an attractive dish anymore! Using the same plate and cutlery for every course means that you have sauce from the previous dish now in your new dish. For example, a duck or pork offering is followed by a lobster canneloni or chalk stream trout. It feels wrong to have these flavours all mixed up. I did ask for a fresh plate when mine had mustard on it following the “scotchies”, but I did feel I was asking a huge favour! I also asked for a spoon so that whoever was taking theirs from the main bowl could get some of the delicious sauce. We went to the Bistro knowing it would not be the same as TARE restaurant, however, we did go along with an open mind, knowing the food would be special. The set up of the sharing concept, the atmosphere, the décor simply do not do justice to this amazing food. You cannot relax and savour it when you are scrabbling to ensure you both get the best result. This amazing food needs to be eaten from the dish it is served on – not from a plate that has already had several previous courses placed upon it. The answer is to order dishes just for yourself and not share! Our bill was not that much less than TARE tasting menu and I would have preferred to have spent a bit more and have that special experience, sharing the amazing food but served on your own plate! RIP TARE restaurant, the Bistro sharing concept was simply was not for us. However, the chefs are still creating wonderful flavours which we will always remember and miss.

Loved the food! Great small plates - good seasonal menu, well prepared & presented, and great flavours. A small teams works well together, in a confided space, to offer a pleasant & efficient service. Not sure about putting a restaurant in a shipping container though!! Actually, not sure why there is a 'gaggle' of shipping containers in the old port area. Containers are not part of the history of this part of the port and not at all well suited to hosting what should be a good dining experience! Just my point of view!!

5 stars for the food, it's delectable - i can see why it has such high reviews, the chefs are clearly talented, hard-working and highly skilled. The 3 star- Service staff etiquette (hand placement). Please don't touch a customers plate while asking if they have finished it: wait, until they give you an answer. When theres a messy soupy dish, it's worth giving the customer some fresh cutlery for the next dish. There were too many niggles like this.

This restaurant is inside a converted shipping container, the decor adds to the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Service was excellent and friendly. Tare serves a set tasting menu of 6 courses plus canapés. There are two sittings for dinner so for each sitting the entire restaurant is being served each of the courses at the same time. We were very impressed with the food. Each course was well crafted, interesting and delicious. Particular highlights for us were the scallop and wasabi dish, and the duck. Housed in a complex of repurposed shipping containers on Wapping Wharf by the harbour, Tare delivers small plates with big flavours. We ate two small but tasty starters each (Truffled potato rosti, Montgomery cheddar; smoked haddock beignet, parsley aioli) and followed up with flavoursome Heritage carrot salad with cashew, orange & miso dressing; Brightwell Ash, red onion & red pepper tart; Tempura asparagus, black garlic, ponzu; Chicken ‘Milanese’, creamed leeks, tarragon; scallops XO, pickled kohlrabi prawn cannelloni. Desserts were a custard choux bun with miso caramel and almonds; Jersey curd cheesecake, rhubarb compote. Everything was delicious, bursting with flavour and served with calm efficiency.

One of the longer established restaurants in the popular and vibrant Wapping Wharf development, this is sadly closing at the end of the June, so we wanted to do another visit whilst we still had the chance. The only menu choice is a set one (with a vegetarian option) and the whole restaurant is served at the same time. Thus there are two sittings, either 6:00pm or 8:45pm, and that’s it. Staff were all very friendly, and the guy serving was very knowledgeable describing each wine in great detail. It’s a six-course tasting menu, as well as sourdough and snacks to start and petit fours at the end (although no option for a hot drink, presumably they want to get you out the way ready for the next sitting). Everything we had was really very good indeed, I’d struggle to pick any highlights as it was all so good. With six courses I was expecting it to be two starters, two (small) mains and two puddings, but the third course, Orkney scallop with wasabi and dashi sour cream, seemed more starter sized when it arrived and I was still quite hungry by the time that I’d finished it. The main course of Beech Ridge duck with soy picked cabbage, salsify and greens filled me up a bit more, although I certainly wasn’t stuffed when we left, so if you’ve got a hearty appetite this may not be the place for you. The duck itself was tremendous, my wife is normally quite hesitant about ordering that as it can be both tough and very fatty, but here it was neither, beautifully tender and very tasty. The choux bun with apple custard, miso and hazelnut was a great finish to a great meal. At £65 I thought this was exceptional value for the quality of the food served. It’s a real shame they’re closing, but at least there is still the Tare Bistro just a couple of doors down.

So our son asked us to come to Bristol for my pre birthday meal as he wasn’t home for the day. He then tells you you’re going to a shipping container in front of the apartments where he lives but he’s been before and it was excellent. To say we were a bit sceptical was an understatement! How wrong were we! Unbelievably beautifully presented, tasty plate after plate kept coming. This is not a standard tasting menu, you choose the “small plates” you’d like then the very friendly waitress brings them out in the most perfectly timed fashion. If I really had to pick a stand out item, I’d say the red onion and pepper tart, delicious pastry, but apart from the trout (just a personal preference) each plate was as good as each other. The cheesecake is also not to be missed! Well done to all involved, we will definitely be back next time we visit our son!

I have just had the 6 course meal and paired wines in Tare. I have no words to describe how good this meal was. It was all very delicious. My favourites were the duck course and the puddings. There was a lemon yoghurt mousse and a choux bun with apple custard. I don't always get why wines are paired with certain dishes, but in this case I could see why they were paired and could taste how the wine complimented the food. The staff were very attentive and just lovely people. We're looking forward to the menu change so we can visit again, although I would have no concerns about eating the exact same food if I was to return before that time!

We keep returning - for us that says it all. We visit Bristol regularly and love to eat out. Many places we enjoy, but for some reason - often nothing you can really pinpoint - we do not return. TARE is not one of those places - the food is outstanding - the flavours exceptional. The atmosphere is perfect - so friendly and welcoming and most importantly for us - not pretentious. We love the fact that everyone arrives at the same time and courses are served to all guests simultaneously, no comings and goings so no distractions from the food. There is not room here to describe all the food in detail, it simply "has you"! However, on the current menu, I will mention the perfectly cooked duck and the final course of apple, custard and salted caramel sauce - all in a little profiterole, of course, it is not that simple but that is the gist of it. I have to say, writing this review I am torn. Part of me knows that writing a great review is important to say "thank you" to the brilliant team. However, part of me desperately wants to keep TARE a secret so it is not too busy and there is room for me when I try to book. We will be back!

We have visited many high quality restaurants in our time including some that have one more more Michelin stars but I can say that none compare with the quality of food and service that we receive at Tare. If I could dine at any one place for the rest of my life I wouldn't even have to think about it, Tare would be my choice. The staff are so friendly and have an expert knowledge, I feel supremely confident in all of their drinks recommendations and dietary requirements. I am a coeliac and vegetarian but there are no shortcuts taken and I never feel like I'm missing out in any way, including when they bring out the bread at the begining of the meal. If anything mine was better than my wife's this time round! I have to give a special mention to the sommelier who never fails to amaze us with his wine pairings, knowledge and warm personality. As a result I've truly fallen in love with wine and realised how much it can impact a meal. I always come away with 2 or 3 new favourite wines to try and track down! This was our third visit to TARE and it simply gets better and better. Every dish was just "melt in the mouth". TARE manages to produce beautifully presented plates with outstanding flavours, whilst not being pretentious. The atmosphere is perfect, there are about 20 covers and everyone sits down together. You are all eating the same course at the same time. It means that there are no comings and goings - it lends itself to a seamless service. It makes you feel part of the room rather than two people sitting in isolation. The TARE team are so friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine. We chose to have a very nice bottle of red wine rather than the wine flight. A great touch is the addition of three little "snacks" with sourdough bread (and butter to die for!) as a starter and they are delicious. Save some of the bread for mopping up the delicious sauces to come! It is not a cheap meal, it is a treat, however, in my opinion it is worth every penny. Another nice touch is there is no service charge added, you are free to add an amount of your choosing. We do not live in Bristol, we do visit regularly and we do like to seek out great food. We have found a few very special places that we return to as much as possible. TARE is one of these and we are already looking forward to December when we return! We loved came here for our anniversary weekend and it was excellent. The restaurant works in two shifts, and everyone gets the same food, with the exception of dietary requirements. We arrived early - 15mins - and were told the table wasn’t ready yet. The waiter asked us our names and wished us happy anniversary. He was very apologetic and very welcoming. We came back 15mins later and we’re seated. The food was great. Started with some warm break, then some chef snacks. We then went into the course they were all very good, great balance and depth. We both loved the lamb and scallops, but they stood out from the other excellent dishes. The puddings we’re sweet enough for my wife but we’re very good. We were given a small celebration drink at the end, and overall thought it was excellent. We will be back again and def have one of the places the sample in Bristol. Highly recommend to anyone wanting high-end, dinning and a simple setting.

Was not made to feel welcome. Waiters looked down their nose at us. Too pretentious for it's own good.

Easily our favourite restaurant in Bristol. Standard of food is always so high and the wine pairings have introduced us to so many excellent new wineries. Super warm service, we will be back!

What can I say about TARE? Having just got back to a trip to Portugal where we had had a dinner at a Michelin 2 star restaurant, TARE had a lot to live up to. The first indication that we were in for a treat was the bread and snacks at the very start of the menu. These were absolutely amazing. The rest of the menu hit this high standard with every dish. I don’t think I have ever had a scallop so perfectly prepared, and how they managed to deliver shiitake mushrooms with all the flavour but that texture is beyond me. The service was friendly and precise. Casual, but not too casual, and above all welcoming. The wine parings were unusual, but perfect. The eclectic selection of wines was very interesting, but always hit the mark. However, they say that you can only judge a restaurant by its consistency. That just means that I’m going to have to go again. Just to double check. And that will be a very welcome visit. Michelin, if you read review, check this place out

By far the best restaurant I have ever visited. I still talk about it now. I think I may have recommended this place to everyone I know. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, you feel like they've invited you to a dinner party. The food, of course, is excellent. The evening was a wonderful experience, I will definitely visit again when I'm in Bristol!

5* food paired with 5* service. Every flavour and every detail was meticulously thought out and executed flawlessly. I could not recommend Tare highly enough, 10/10. Special mention to the yogurt mousse with Blackberry granita, it was a taste sensation and completely unique.

We visited in August ‘22 and hadn’t left a review, however we felt compelled to write one now to share quite how exceptional our visit to Tare was. Truly exceptional knowledgable and passionate service, food interesting and wine pairings clearly so well researched and thought out. While by no means cheap, it is exceptional value for what you get.

Managed to get a last minute booking for a Saturday 8.30pm sitting. The food was excellent and the wine pairings worked very well even though the wines wouldn't normally be what we would choose. Service was also excellent, attentive, prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. Some things to note however: 1. The actual unit is on the first floor of the run of containers, not at ground level (in case you can't initially find it like us!) 2. The toilets are round the back of the containers, the area is dimly lit and access is by keycode. It's difficult to see the keypad and even with the correct combination I couldn't get the door to open but someone came out so I could enter. It was the end of the evening and the toilets were messy, dirty and without toilet paper. 3. The 4th review below this shows a seven course menu. We had exactly the same but now without the aubergine course but the price remained the same. Apparently the menu changes seasonally and even a course may change week to week depending what's in season so we look forward to returning and sampling another delicious tasting menu!

What a great experience! Our Tare visit was a special occasion, we wouldn't usually spend this amount on a normal meal out but I'm so glad we did! The food was delicious, the presentation was so beautiful it made us squeal every time a course came out and each time, we were given a quick summary of what we were eating. Normally I'd find this a bit over the top but it was a perfect balance. We tried quite a lot we wouldn't normally order and each one was both delicate but full of flavour. The photos speak for themselves. Tare is casual but detailed. Precise yet relaxed. We will DEFINITELY be back!
