Experienced the new dinner menu, beautifully presented food, full of flavour, piping hot, plenty of it, steak cooked to perfection & a lovely piece of fish with the right amount of sauce, good selection of starters & sides, nice buzzy ambiance, contemporary vibe, felt well looked after by the staff despite being very busy, would highly recommend.

This is just a wonderful restaurant in every sense of the word! The food is consistently fantastic across their seasonal menus. The service is flawless, and the restaurant itself has the perfect ambiance to compliment the experience. Everyone must try the Met! Beware though: when you go once, you’ll simply have to keeping going back, it’s that wonderful. Thank You to the team for a very special evening 🥰

Food and service and atmosphere was all perfect we shall visit again soon! Service was exceptional and our server Connor had extensive knowledge of the menu. We particularly enjoyed the hazelnut mocha pie not to be missed !!!

Amazing small plate food in a great atmosphere

Have posted previously but this place is always worth another review. Have visited for both evening dinner and brunch. All excellent. Lovely to see different dishes every time I have been as long with some firm favourites such as the fried chicken. Lovely service and beautiful restaurant

Randomly pick this restaurant near the BnB I stay. Surprisingly high quality of foods. The portion is just right. Modern and we'll decor environment. Service is excellent and the staff are very helpful. Strongly recommend.

This gem of a place deserves to be packed! The food is first class, offering something a little bit different & both looking & tasting amazing. Beautifully presented by friendly, helpful staff. We took advantage of First Table & enjoyed aperitifs in the sunny garden at the back before moving indoors for our various delicious plates of food - highly recommend.

Fairly quiet for a Tuesday night, but I’m not sure why as the food is to die for. The only downside is the guy mansplaining consultancy to his table of women that he won’t let get a word in. Great fried chicken, outstanding pickles. It’s clear this chef loves cooking just as much as the guy at the table next to me loves the sound of his own voice. Also the Bees Knees house wine is a great choice, cos I’m buzzing.

I come here from time to time and always have such a nice experience. Solid food. Nice service. Beautiful place and when the bill arrives it feels decent value for the offering.

Genuinely the best brunch I've ever had

Unpleasant experience. Didn't feel welcomed and food was disappointing. Walked in seeing the host at the bar and my partner chatting, i tried to join in the conversation several times while i sat there (25 minutes) and my partner had tried to get me involved in their conversation but the host was chatting away. At one point my partner was trying to speak to me wanting to ask me a question, the host interrupted. Being a chatty person who is always good with all kinds of people, this situation and my time spent at The Metropolitan has managed to make me feel awkward and embarrassed. I felt as though I did not exist. Had been told food was great before the visit. Ordered 5 dishes, a pint and 4 cocktails. Cocktails were alright, the pint wasn't good. The only thing that we enjoyed was the confit potato which was delightful I can't complain. Pan fried hake was not great, clams tasted sour and fish was nothing special. Met bread was cold and greasy, the smoked miso butter was nice though. Barbacued pork belly was not great, it was served with apple sauce and I had expected something more unique. Korean friend chicken was bad. Everything came up to £45 with the discount code, fair price for eating out but service and food could have been better. Interior of the restaurant was nice though IMO.

Are you a fan of "small plates" ? I have to say that increasingly, I'm not. The food here was OK, good even but there was too much because the plates were far from small and we were encouraged to order more than we would have we wanted, had we known. Left feeling bloated and slightly ripped off.

Great food and service. We will be back

We have been wanting to try The Metropolitan for a while, with the great reviews already online and by recommendation from others. We certainly were not disappointed in the least. We were welcomed with a warm smile and shown to our seat right next to the window (perfect for prolific people watchers like us). Our waiter was super knowledgeable when taking our drinks order and made some great recommendations for the small plates and the specific portion sizes. The favourites were by far the confit potato, which was decadent and rich, especially in the bed of black garlic and nori, and the miso glazed barbecue celeriac which is paired perfectly with the porcine mushrooms. I strongly recommend trying some of their cocktail menu, especially the (ever elusive, at least to me) raspberry daiquiri. Don't put off going to The Met like we have, and congratulations to the whole team for creating what can only be a contender for one of Bristol's best restaurants.

Nice waitress, can pay cash, had a red berry tea there.

We enjoyed a fantastic brunch here last Sunday and were impressed by the delicious dishes! We ordered the Ox Cheek Hash and Chili Crab brioche, both of which were incredibly tasty. The only downside was the service. While we understand they were busy, we had to ask multiple times to get our drinks. However, this won't deter us from returning as we definitely will! Just a few minor things they could improve upon. Keep up the good work!

Brunch was beautiful prepared and cooked. Imaginative menu with twists on old favourites and interesting, different, options. Conner was excellent!

Food wonderful colorful and delicious and the staff wonderful. Had the oxtails with spinach carrots and portebella mushroom . Poached eggs on top with Hollander sauce.

Great spot. Super welcoming staff, lovely decor and atmosphere with a little back garden to boot. Food was even more exciting than the playlist (which was excellent). Lovely.

I came here today with my housemate to have some brunch. We ordered the mushrooms on toast and both of us thought it was fantastic. It cost us £11 each, but it was absolutely worth it. They were the best mushrooms I have ever had. The food was delivered after a short amount of time waiting and the staff were very friendly so the service was excellent. The interior design is stylish with nice furniture and lighting. I will definitely come back soon.

We returned here to try the Sunday lunch menu and everything was just amazing. Everything about this place is sensational, from the ambience, really friendly staff and the food is simply outstanding. The food is on a level you would think you are in a Michelin star restaurant, quality, taste and presentation - all of the dishes are of very high standard. A fabulous team effort, thank you and we will definitely be back again!

Watched cocktails being made at the bar the wife had to have one for her birthday,their version of a bloody Mary with a twist..it kicked 😀 ,the eggs Royal coming out of the kitchen seemed very popular

Came with some visiting friends and took them out here as I had heard some great reviews. It was the only place we ate together and then they travelled home. We then all came down with extreme food poisoning and have all been suffering quite badly. The food was good whilst we ate it. Most dishes tasted wonderful and the the staff were very attentive and lovely. But the after affects of the meal were horrible.

My husband and son had severe vomiting and diarrhoea for a full 36 hours, caused by eating the chicken dish on the dinner menu.

I visited The met today for a coffee and to do some work. When I entered the restaurant I was immediately greeted with a smile and welcomed by a manger named Millissa asking how I was. I ask if I was okay have a buisness call and a coffee which she seemed glad to show me a table that was quiet and spacious which I really appreciated. I ordered a honey flat white what wasn’t normally on the menu however the manager said they will do their best to find some honey and they delivered !! The Flat white was very smooth with the perfect amount of honey beautifully crafted by Dan who’s was also very friendly and made conversation with me. Lovely experiance overall and shame I couldn’t stay longer for food!!

If you want a fancy breakfast/bunch THE MET is the best spot. Incredible, super tasty dishes. Their Ox Cheek Hash is the best, super tender, but so are the vegetarian options such as the mushrooms on toast. Chill, posh atmosphere. Shame the service is often slow.

Delicious food with interesting combinations and precise execution, polite service and great ambiance. Will be returning shortly.

Absolutely over priced food The drinks were all right but the food didn’t work the way out. Most of the food were too salty. Not sure if the chef has taste the food before serving.

Had brunch at The Met today, ox cheek hash is one of the best things I’ve eaten for a long time, so tasty, served with perfect poached eggs and kimchi veg, delicious! Nice atmosphere and attentive service

Two couples had a lunchtime brunch meal at this very pleasant location. The decor is attractive and the tables strategically placed. The lunch menu is fairly limited but when the food comes it’s something different. I had the eggs Benedict on toast with bacon topping, Really delicious and filling. Two others had the special chicken dish which was voted extremely tasty and different. We will try the evening menu as this place is definitely worth a revisit and further investigation. The Service was quietly efficient and friendly. One very minor moan however : In absolutely minuscule print on the menu there is a detail of a twelve and half percent Service charge automatically added to the bill. Call me old fashioned but be open about it or leave it to the customer to decide the tip.

Had an early dinner here. We thought the food was exceptional, partnered with a good wine list. Don’t be confused by the menu, think of it as ‘small plates’ even though some are pretty large. Let the staff guide you. Order what you fancy and share. Asian flavours primarily, beautifully delivered. One of the best meals we have had in Bristol.

The service was so accommodating & friendly, the food sublime. Some of the food was not to my liking, but I could tell the flavours were expertly chosen, just not my favourite. I can’t describe how good the fried chicken was, & the banchan was so simple & delicious. We were sat by the windows, which were a bit cold in winter, glad I had lots of layers on.

Greeted warmly on entering. The staff were attentive and friendly. Coffee was extremely good and the brunch menu offered a tempting variety of choices as well as some classics. The mackerel kedgeree was excellent and the Eggs Benedict beautifully prepared and cooked. Very stylish place to eat. Will definitely return for an evening meal.

My mother and I recently enjoyed a delightful brunch experience at this charming establishment. We were greeted and served by an attentive gentleman with bleached blonde hair, whose exceptional service significantly enhanced our visit. The culinary highlight was undoubtedly the ox cheek hash and the exquisitely prepared mushroom on toast, complemented perfectly by rich, aromatic coffees. The flavors were a delightful symphony, leaving us deeply satisfied. We are eagerly looking forward to our next visit to this culinary gem.

We booked the Met through First Table, so we received 50% off our food bill, although I would of happily paid full price for the incredible food we had. We ordered a mixture of small plates and a main each accompanied by a few cocktails. The quality of the food was excellent and the choice of dishes on the menu were very ranged so there seemed to be something for every pallette. Our drinks were also well balanced and fairly priced. I'd be happy to call this place my local and visit as often as possible.

We were taking the opportunity to stop off in Bristol just for one night on our way back to Devon and catch up with friends who suggested going for dinner to a new restaurant bar called The Metropolitan in Whiteladies Road. Well I have to say we were most impressed with this place – the decor and ambiance are terrific and bearing in mind we were there on a wild and wet Tuesday night the place was most welcoming. As for the food this was delicious! We took the opportunity to try a few of their sharing plates which were all amazing and such a great sociable way to eat. We tried a white and red wine both from Stellenbosch which we thought were exceptionally good value. It was so good that we returned the next morning for coffee (delightful) and a couple of dishes off their inventive brunch menu (the bubble & squeak was to die for!) before trekking off home. We will definitely be revisiting when we are next in the Bristol area (and having had a peek at their other menus we now want to try their Sunday roasts) and would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone who hasn’t tried it yet!

As a regular at the Downs Café it seemed a good idea to try the newly opened Metropolitan for a lunch. The space is nicely laid out and the welcome and service from the staff very good. The menu has a number of sharing options which are party tried and everything was met with great approval, especially the pork and the potatoes with parmesan. A new place to add to my approved dining options in Bristol.

My friend and I came here for a Sunday lunch recently, and were pleased with almost every aspect of our experience. The menu had a good selection of choices, and the food we chose was delicious. Our only minor gripe is that we would’ve appreciated slightly largely portions. The service was fast, and staff were polite and helpful. The restaurant interior is stylish, and the big window seats are great for people watching. We hope to return one day.

Wonderful food. Smallish menu but everything on it that we tried ( nearly everything since there were 5 of us) was fantastic. The potatoes were amazing and we asked the chef for the recipe. Waiter was great, wine lovely and not mega expensive. All round 5 stars well deserved

Next level food in a beautiful modern dining space that avoids coming across as pretentious. Delighted to find creative dishes with fusions rarely seen (long time I've seen Calamansi as an ingredient on the menu!). And if you see that hay smoked custard creme - order it! They should sell that stuff in tubs. Wine list may have less choices than other venues, but the picks are amazing. I had a lovely business/social catch up and my guest was incredibly impressed with the restaurant as well. It is a FIND and both of us expected to return soon with our wider circles. Open for ca. a year, it felt well established. The staff are well informed, friendly and understanding to your needs. One particular staff went out of their way to ensure a potential hurdle during my visit was smoothened out. For that I am very grateful. Looking forward to returning with friends and family to explore the menu further.

Top quality all day brunch, best eggs royale I’ve ever had

Absolutely amazing venue! I had my 30th birthday party here and everything was just perfect. The team at The Met were fantastic, every detail was thought about and the service was outstanding. The atmosphere was great for an evening into night party and was so nice to have the option to hire the entire venue. The food was amazing and they were really accommodating with our drinks requests on the night. I would highly recommend this venue if you’re looking to host a party or even if you’re popping in for brunch or dinner. It’s absolutely brilliant. Thanks to the team at The Met for everything!

Delicious small plates and excellent cocktails

Came here for Sunday Brunch with my mum and aunty and the whole experience was SO impressive! First of all, the staff are really smiley and welcoming. They also were great with questions regarding the menu. The Sunday menus are a Brunch and then they do a roast / bigger lunch meals too. I ordered the bubble and squeak with bacon and eggs and it was perfectly done and absolutely delicious. I also had a coffee and a mimosa (not on the menu but they were super happy to make this). The atmosphere is really relaxed and friendly and it's just a fabulous new place. I cannot wait to come here in the evening and give it a go.

Went there for an evening meal with some friends. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and professional staff, ridiculously good food and cocktails. Gave us a full rundown of the vegan options on the menu and made one of the dishes differently to accommodate for us which I really appreciated. 10/10. Great music in the background as well.

Generous portions and great service. Tried both brunch and dinner here and had a wonderful experience. The service is excellent and the food rivals local Michelin star restaurants for taste. The Banchan pickles were our favourite.

The best meal I’ve eaten all year!! Absolutely brilliant. We had the roast, it was insane - a delicious modern twist. Bloody Mary was also great. The miso ice cream is to die for. Our waiter, Connor, was also a dream. 10/10! Looking forward to coming back again very soon!

Food was great, so were the cocktails. Our second server was so friendly and attentive which made all the difference, overall had a lovely evening here. Not sure how to feel about the first fella with the long curly hair tho and the note he left on our receipt 😂 did make us chuckle at the end! Best brunch I've had in ages, the Eggs Royale was unforgettable. I've never had trout with Eggs Royale before, I've always been a staunch smoked salmon kinda person, but my mind is now open. We had a delicious bottle of bubbly too, which rounded the whole experience off. Will deserved top rating, keep those incredible brunches coming 🥰

The acoustic was a little loud/pingy for us, but everything else was perfect! The menu was a little daunting and we went for the small plates option - bread and 5 others. The food was amazing! Absolutely everything was delicious and not a scrap was left. It was craftsmanship how these dishes were put together. Atmosphere and decor were relaxed and organic. We'll be returning, for sure.

Very average. Tasted like a good take away. Kimchi was alright. The noodles soaked in salt. Just too much salt. King oysters came almost raw. When asked she said they are meant to be that way. Are you serious, I know what king oysters taste like. Definitely not like rubber. All in all you’re a good cocktail bar but not advanced in Asian food at all.

Some of the best brunch I've had in Bristol, helped along by excellent service

It was the biggest disappointment I ever experienced. I've chosen The Metropolitan to celebrate with my partner. The reviews looked fantastic, the pictures were stunning and the whole vibe was like the top-level restaurant. We have ordered (small plates) Barbecued Beetroot, ox, (big plates) Barbecued Hogget Pancakes, and Shio Koji Marinaded West Country Beef Sirloin. We were waiting a long time for our orders. The small plates came after 35 minutes and the large plates after 50 minutes. The restaurant wasn't busy at the time and most tables were empty. The barbecued beetroot was just a barbecued beetroot without any additional flavour. It should be with 7 spices but I couldn't taste it. A small plate with ox came with 3 small edible "baskets" and ox meat was at the bottom of each of them. The first bite revealed the most salty meat which I ever ate in my entire life. I couldn't even finish one basket. My partner tried it and said it was inedible. We thought maybe it was a special meat or a different method of providing food in this fusion restaurant. It will make sense if not the rest dishes will have the same problem. Beef sirloin came with chicken broth and mushrooms. My partner ate a bit of the beef and asked me if I can try to check and give my honest opinion. When I took a bit, I felt once again salty meat. I tried broth and mushrooms but everything was extremely salty and without any flavour. Barbecued hogget pancakes were the last dish we ordered and the biggest disappointment from all of them. I was wondering what the pancake will look like but at the end, it was just a Chinese pancake (chun bing) on the side of the plate. Half of the chun bing was properly warmed up and wet and the other half was not warm at all and dry. The lamb was even more salty than the beef which my partner had and I couldn't eat more than 2 bits. I've created one portion with lamb, lettuce, pickles, sauce and of course Chinese pancake but it was just awful. Way too salty and there was no balance. I've called the staff and asked if chefs are trying their food before serving. She said yes and asked if there is a problem. I've described the problem with too many salty dishes from the larger plates and ox from the small plate. She was fully professional, apologised for it and sent the feedback to the kitchen. When she came back she confirmed chefs tried the ox and "actually it was a bit too salty", so she took off from the bill ox and the hogget. It is understandable to make a mistake and deliver one of the dishes in not the best quality but it's not acceptable to make inedible 3 out of 4 dishes. I didn't want to make a bigger problem and feel like a person who came to eat something for free so I decided to not remove other dishes from the bill. I was glad the staff did it for my most salty dishes. That was the only positive thing we have experienced in The Metropolitan. The waitress, Emma, was doing her best and we appreciated her help and creating a whole friendly environment. She was fully professional and I can't say a bad word! The Metropolitan is a higher-profile restaurant which should provide top-level dishes with the best quality but everything which we received was just mediocre. Even if I will remove the taste of salt from my mind and think about the quality of the rest non-salty bits of our orders, non of them was of good quality. Nothing felt worth the price which The Metropolitan put on the menu. It was one of the most disappointing experiences I ever experienced because it should be a big night for us, the menu wasn't cheap and we ended up with empty bellies at 9:30 pm when most of the restaurants were closing.

Amazing food and lovely service! Can’t fault it!

We had a lovely meal at the Met. Quite pricey but worth the money. We ate earlier in the evening so not too busy, which may have impacted on the atmosphere but played some great music as background noise so it wasn't obvious that it was quieter. Staff were very attentive and polite, food arrived quickly and was delicious. Thank you for a lovely evening
