Ate here last night. Service was fantastic, food was absolutely fantastic. The ambiance was spot on. What an utter delight. 6 stars Lock Up. Bloody brilliant. Xx

Excellent meal with my daughter even if a bit expensive at over £110 including service.

I absolutely love this place. Mainly Sunday lunch but it is awesome. The food, the atmosphere and the general hospitality and experience is fantastic. Have been there quite a few times this year alone. No matter what I order, I’m always over the moon with my lunch. Another place I would highly recommend, but booking is required and once you’ve been there, you will realise why.

Amazing roast dinner today, quality ingredients, great portion sizes, all home cooked to perfection, excellent service & attention to detail. The whole team should be so proud of themselves. Highly recommend this place to everyone, consistently great all round. Thank you.

I had a the best steak that I had ever tasted. Lovely food, and a lovely atmosphere. The staff were friendly and efficient. You coukd tell by the way the owners and staff were with their clientele that they are well respected and thought of. All in all, a wonderful evening!!

Lovely place ! But expensive . Wouldn’t usually expect a rump steak to cost over £25 … ribeye or fillet yes but not rump which was a tad tough. I had venison which was also chewy . I was quite disappointed tbh as the actual restaurant was gorgeous . The wine was lovely though. Maybe it’s because we went on a Wednesday when it’s not so busy so they can get by using the cheaper ends of the meat ? The look of the plates themselves was at the high end - just the food was mediocre I’m afraid :-(

Dinner was lovely but the menu was not young child friendly. Roasts are probably one of the best in Bristol!

Comí aquí por 1 hora de calle hoy y tuve los Domingos Asados. Primero lo mejor. El personal que nos atendió desde la llegada hasta el servicio y la salida fue absolutamente excelente, no hay problemas en absoluto e incluso logró encontrar una mesa ya que llegamos un poco temprano. También nos encontraron una mesa diferente cuando preguntamos ya que la mesa detrás de nosotros era estúpida / groseramente ruidosa. La comida era buena (aunque la verdura de mi esposa era mucho más abollada que la mía) . Carne de cerdo encantadora y buena carne de res, pero nuestros dos budines Yorkshire eran extremadamente y obviamente exagerado. Tristemente no volveremos y la razón de esto es el nivel de ruido en lugar de la comida. Cuando nos fuimos mis oídos parecía que habían estado en un rave. Parece un ambiente naturalmente ruidoso, pero desafortunadamente teníamos una gran mesa detrás de nosotros con 2 niños pequeños totalmente sin supervisión por los adultos. Esos 2 niños estaban tan ruidosos y gritando que no solo nos movimos, sino que otras 2 mesas pidieron moverse también. Mientras que la culpa está directamente en la puerta de los adultos por la mala crianza de los hijos, me hubiera gustado que el gerente reconociera que esta chusma estaban arruinando la experiencia para todos los demás clientes en tiro al oído! Estoy seguro de que a este grupo egoísta no le importaría un carajo aunque lo supieran, lo que solo confirma por qué han criado niños que no tienen modales en un lugar público. Fue como cenar con los Dingles o Clampetts😤 Ps. Después de que los Dingles se fueron, una madre y su hija llegaron con 2 niños de edades similares a los niños ferrel que acaban de irse. Qué diferencia, muy bien comportado y solo demuestra que afortunadamente, algunas personas todavía saben cómo criar a los niños adecuadamente.

Yep, this place is great, we will be returning next week. I almost do not want to say to book this place via first table as that means it will get more popular therefore I cannot do it again. Amazing service and the food was soooooo good, you can tell by the amount of os how much my wife and I enjoyed this place.

Vine aquí con mi pareja un sábado por la noche. Estábamos inicialmente sentados en la terraza (no haber estado antes de que por error seleccioné esta zona en la reserva) Estaba un poco humeante porque algunos huéspedes estaban parados justo afuera, así que preguntamos si podíamos movernos ya que tengo una afección pulmonar y no era ideal. A pesar de estar muy ocupado, el restaurante era muy amable y servicial y nos trasladó dentro, que era encantador. La comida era increíble y el servicio muy atento y cálido. Recomendaría encarecidamente este lugar y sin duda volveremos y recomendaremos este lugar a otros.

Increíble comida impecable. Tanto la paloma como el pato se cocinaron a la perfección al igual que el fondant de chocolate. Servicio excelente. La mejor comida que he comido en años. Bien hecho.

No venimos aquí a menudo, pero nunca nos ha decepcionado y este viaje no fue diferente. Tuvimos una tarde temprano (reserva de última hora, gracias por encajarnos) un sábado. Mi esposa y yo tomamos un par de copas cada uno y entrantes y alimentación. Opté por la paloma para empezar y la venado para principal. Como siempre, perfecto. Nuestro personal de espera recomendó vinos y ambos dieron en el lugar. Mi esposa tenía humus de frijoles canelones y pan para empezar y la calabaza wellington. Ambos platos parecían increíbles y eran increíbles! El servicio fue impecable como se esperaba. Amable, bien informado sin ser dominante. Volveremos pronto!

Had a fantastic meal..along with some delicious cocktails..one of the very best highlights in St George. The staffing particular Jasmine were fantastic. Lots of fun and very sociable..

Our entire experience at The Lock up was perfect! Firstly, we were allowed to bring our dog in. We sat at the front in the veranda area, where dogs are allowed, which was warm and cosy, yet spacious and stylish with lots of lovely plants . The hosts were attentive and friendly, and very good at making sure we were having a good experience. We started with cocktails, which were made perfectly. Our food was delicious. My daughter had surf and turf. I had butternut squash wellington. It was one of the best plates of food I have EVER eaten! This meal was a real treat, as it was more expensive than I usually go for, but so worth it. Unforgettable! We weren't rushed to leave. Timing was impeccable. Food was incredible. I loved it! Thank you.

I attended a wedding at the lock up this weekend and was blown away by the service and attention to detail. the owners took time during a busy service to introduce themselves to guests and every staff member clearly followed there lead with smiles and constant great service.The food was flawless 😍 😋

Absolutely delicious! I could have eaten a plate of just the ‘bread and butter’! The lock up burger, omg! Wish I had a bigger stomach. Very welcoming for our toddler as well.

We visited this place last night and we definitely will go back as we loved the atmosphere. I ordered surf and turf and it was really done nicely, definitely will order again. My boyfriend ordered Cornwall cod with crayfish arancini in a bouillabaisse sauce. We were a little bit disappointed. Although the seared cod fillet was well cooked and was fresh, the bouillabaisse sauce lacked flavour and was not like they do in south France like a Marseille bouillabaisse. The arancini also lacked flavour and didn’t blend well with the whole dish. Overall we enjoyed the place and will go again but probably won’t order fish, as it was a bit overpriced too.

Went for a roast with family today. Fabulous food (stunning gravy) and the most wonderful servers (particular shout out to south African Cilla(?)) who made our meal so smooth and fun. You're a huge asset to the lockup!

The lockup sets very high expectations due to reputation. I've eaten here a few times and loved it but this roast was a little off... It had a slightly bitter/burnt undertone to it and the lamb very very salty. Service felt rushed even though we sat there for 20min before being offered a drink... We were told we couldn't order a dessert because we were ordering starters (this is when we were ordering!). A clumsy cake blunder meant a nice surprise ruined. All small issues perhaps but added up to being a bit of a nuisance. On balance I will say the starters were excellent!

The Lockup continues to be the place to eat in East Bristol. Great food, fabulous service and superb atmosphere.

Originally booked in for Steak Night to celebrate my birthday. Decided to order from the full menu and wow the pigeon starter was superb, so many different textures for your pallet. Who would of thought Caramalised walnuts jheeeze they were good. I had the lamb mains afterwards with additional sides and you just couldn't fault it, the culinary intensity of each dish was mouth wateringly excellent. Well done Team Lock Up.

We came for a roast on Sunday with our 2 year old and a friend The staff were lovely, paying lots of attention to our little boy (which he loved) The food was fab, portion size was very generous for the roast and it was so tasty Puddings were lovely too (but could be a teeny bit bigger) We will definitely be back soon, and is by far the best Sunday lunch we’ve had in Bristol!

Sunday lunch for me and the family. My first experience of 'the lock up' and it didn't disappoint. Greeted by our server Cilla and shown to our table. We ordered beef, lamb and pork roast. We all loved our food, absolutely delicious. We opted for brownies and sticky toffee pudding for desserts and were lovely. The atmosphere had good vibes with some great choices of music on the speakers. I'd definitely recommend to anyone wanting a seriously good roast. We will be back 😊

Tastiest roast in Bristol! I’ve come to the pick up several times over the last few years and have never been disappointed with the quality of the food and drink. The staff made us feel very welcome and answered any questions we had too. Overall great experience and will be returning soon.

The Lock Up serves sensational food, with friendly & thoughtful service. They also served the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever drunk. It has got very expensive though, which means we don’t go here as often as we used to.

I booked The Lock Up for a friend and colleagues Baby Shower, there were 18 of us with a private seating area upstairs. The setting was so lovely, with a relaxed vibe and classy background music. Amy, our waitress kindly helped me to put a few decorations up in advance, and generally looked after us so well, along with other waiting staff. We were made to feel very welcome. There was a great selection of drinks, including 2 x cocktails for £14 before 7pm. The food was absolutely gorgeous, I had the rump steak which was perfectly cooked, with a pepper sauce to die for, and everyone else was most complimentary about the food. We would definitely be back! Alex was really responsive and helpful in booking the place, which I was really grateful for as its no mean feat organising a bigger event. The outdoor bit is extra special, the heaters keep the space warm enough to enjoy the outside/in vibe whilst dining. Never had a bad experience here. My favourite place in Bristol bar none.

Excellent Sunday roast. We were a group of 5 and had a good experience with good service. The only negative would be that it's a bit crowded due to the limited space but again this added a festive, jovial mood.

Been here a couple of times now. Lovely place, staff very nice. Food is good but the menu is not huge. Jan '24 update, had lunch on a Saturday. The burger was awesome, great flavour & texture. Accompanied by a nice pint of Estrella. Still one of our favourite places for food.

The Lock Up has the best staff anywhere I’ve been, banging food which clearly takes a lot of work for that standard, front of house always nail it, super attentive, not to mention it definitely has the best Sunday roast in town!!

I have never had such a joyful and attentive service from a restaurant in my life. Each server that interacted with us had all of the knowledge and personable charisma one could ever hope for from a customer service role. Seriously above and beyond, we both left smiling and are just sad we didn’t get their names. The food was good too.

We were not disappointed it was amazing and the best roast from a restaurant. Staff were great. Message to the manager, this is now our favourite restaurant and we will come back soon

Unbelievable restaurant. Confused by any negative reviews, not only is the food worth the marks but the staff are so friendly and welcoming it makes the place 10x better. Couldn't recommend higher

We had a Sunday roast at the Lock Up on the recommendation of a friend. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the vibe was chilled and the food was really excellent. Great roast and a good choice of drinks and desserts. Definitely a place I’d eat at again. My only niggle is that quite a large part of the restaurant is a sort of covered terrace with heat lamps. It is mostly indoors as it is covered and has windows, but I don’t personally like heat lamps that much. I’m not taking a star off though because I knew this before we visited, and the food was worth it.

I wouldn’t call this average nor very good, I’d say it was good. My expectations were high because the Bristol subreddit said this was the best roast in Bristol, but I unfortunately didn’t feel the same. It was good! But not amazing. The roast potatoes needed to be smaller so they crisp up, the yorkies were a bit lack lustre. The veg was very well done. My mum had the pork and said it wasn’t braised like she expected. Our starters were lovely and the service was lovely. Overall, too expensive for what it was. £80 for 2 people (I wasn’t drinking) is very expensive (especially for the area) unless you can back it up with the best food ever. But lovely service and if it wasn’t so expensive I’d say it was worth it. You can get a vegan/veggie meal here too

Luckily when we arrived there was a cancelation so we managed to get a table for two (always a good sign that a restaurant is fully booked) You can see why as the food was delicious, expertly prepared and presented and the staff who were friendly, professional, considerate and knowledgeable. Will most certainly visit again, if we can get a table. Thanks guys

Cod cheeks starter not great , Sunday lunch very filling ,meat ,roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding fantastic, veg good , cauliflower cheese pretty uncheesy, spiced red cabbage bit strong and unescary, wine pretty standard. Friendly staff, nice overall, maybe just stick to the roast dinner

The best roast dinner I've had in Bristol. Hands down. Had a roast here many times, never disappointed always fantastic. (Only slight criticism is the roasties - too big. Please make them smaller 🤪)

We came on Sunday for a Roast, we were sat outside (covered) which would have been fine on a warm sunny day, but as it was tipping with rain it was quite cold and hard to have a conversation as rain was so loud. I had the lamb which was cooked to perfection, great thick caulifower cheese, lovely vegetables, huge yorkshire and large portions, could improve on the roast potatoes - they werent crispy and were quite watery in the middle. Had a sticky toffee pudding for pud and was quite possibly the best pudding ive had ever!!

What a find. We had a Sunday lunch at the lock up and I have to say it was delicious. The food was well presented and good portions. (Quite big) My husband who is very Fussy thought it was good and the chocolate brownie was sublime. One of our party had a child's portion of roast lamb which was a good size. Excellent value for money and the staff were lovely. A great relaxing atmosphere. Just a note that parking is a little further down the road however I believe there is car park opening nearby soon. I would highly recommend the lock up

I took my partner for his birthday. The drinks were lovely. We both had the cod. I’m always dubious about fish because it always seems to arrive luke warm but no, hot and delicious! Our server brought samples of wine for us to choose and the whole evening was really delightful. I highly recommend
