Lovely little place to meet, have a walk around the fishing lakes and sit for food & drink. Great menu, very tasty & well presented. Varied choice & good value. Lots of places to sit outside and nice selection of ice cream flavours. Ordered sandwiches which were delicious served with lovely side salad, coleslaw & crisps. Open 10am -3pm daily & dog friendly.

Went today for first time for about 3 years having previously been a regular. My wife and I were both rather disappointed with the place. Gone were the lovely āEnglish Country Gardensā having been replaced with a courtyard and inside was ok but rather sterile. The staff were helpful and attentive without being overbearing and the food was fine. We used to go often b not only because we liked the old fashioned Tea Room style but also to visit relatives who have since moved. Wonāt be back Iām afraid.

Had the best pancakes - massive and fluffy ! Also had the light breakfast which was cooked perfectly. The ladies that work there were lovely and had great customer service skills. Definitely be going back.

The best pub in the world. That probably sounds like an exaggeration, but for me, this is *the* quintessential English pub. When I close my eyes and imagine a pub, it looks like the Roebuck Inn. A warm, inviting atmosphere with real coal fires, relaxed conversation, tasty and very reasonably priced drinks. In the Summer, a great beer garden. The perfect place end a countryside walk. Whenever my friends visit York, I make sure to take them here - and every time they've comeback, they've made a point to visit the Roebuck Inn. Pubs like this are unfortunately a dying breed. The village owes Jo and Amanda a debt of gratitude for running the place, they are always super friendly - Appleton would be at a huge loss without them here.

Went for a pub lunch with family. I ordered beef stew in a Yorkshire pudding. It came and looked very generous until I started eating it. It was fill with mashed potato and very little stew. The Yorkshire pudding was inedible. My nephew had lasagne. It was just mush. Only meal that was edible was the prawn curry, the rice though wasn't good. Won't be going back.

Myself and my pregnant wife booked a baby shower here. My wife said on the way home the only reason she didn't excuse herself to the bathroom to cry was because our guests would obviously be able to tell that she had an episode. It had to be one of the most manic and stressful events we've ever had. The complete opposite the baby shower or carvery ad they have on Facebook. It started in the morning. My pregnant wife woke to a message confirming we'd ordered the 'hot pork sandwiches' but we agreed a carvery in earlier messages. We were relieved they could do it but a little taken a back especially since they were confirming food the morning of implying they had not prepared anything yet having 3 events that day. Our families traveled hours with under 2s and they included some vulnerable adults too. When it was clear that the previous event was overruning and the elder members of our group got tired feet I made my way to the bar and explained that my guests have no where to sit, that the previous event is still ongoing. The barmade lethargically explained that the previous baby shower had started late. Then stopped talking... I informed the barmade that this was not my problem and I had a large party of guests that need a seat. She said "give me 5 minutes" I said okay and then she said "want any drinks" and I said "no, we have nowhere to sit with them". It was very awkward stood right next to the other folks baby shower whilst they made eyes with us confused. We were chatting to someone from their party that said in actual fact they were not late it was due to the baby shower before them overruning. So the bar staff out right lied to me. Here is a summary of some crazy and honestly comedic horror that followed: - My gluten free grandmother could not be catered for. When asking a staff member to explain to the vulnerable adult that they couldn't have food at the restaurant and why they refused to do so. This was after confirming 3 times with the venue that they could cater to her needs. She had to be taken to another restaurant for food completely embarrassing me and my wife. She sat and watched as everyone else ate. Shocking! There was a morrisons within a stones throw away they could have gone to for bits. My little nan cried in her hotel room for being such a bother but we did everything we could to ensure the restaurant had enough time to cater to her. Mortifying. - They said the reason for the lack of food was that everyone was taking too big a portion. It's one yorkshire per person. We were not told this would be the case and assumed as the ad says "generous portions" they would be generous which again is a complete lie. - We were told they would restock the food once it was empty but they only restocked the mash. So various people didn't get any food at all. Many people got takeaway and went else where after. - We were sold a cup of tea, when we asked for milk they said they had non due to it expiring yesterday.š - My guests had to clear all tables before we could sit down. The dishes remained visible for the entire duration of our stay. - When they say carvery they do not mean Toby style slicing of meat with unlimited veg. They mean a joint and a few chicken breasts cooked and covered in gravy limited veg. - The staff seemed too scared to come to our tables there was no expert coordination. I had to ask for everything every step of the way. - There was no cutlery due to dishes left by the previous event. - Cups and plates dirty. Overall I have to say I feel a bit scammed by their ads; we feel like we managed ourselves, could have made better food, cleaned our own tables and we served ourselves food. We legit feel like we paid Ā£290 to sit at a table. We feel as if the restaurant overbooked themselves and left no room between bookings to clean up. We're rude. Lied to us and we're not accommodating as they said they were. We're extremely disappointed and will not be back.

What a treat to call into a pub for lunch without tumble weed. A well stocked and well supported pub. The menu can be picked up and ordered from the bar. Hearty fayre. We enjoyed a Sri Lanka curry as well as a beef and Stilton pie. Both were delicious. The pub also seems well supported by locals who met in there for a catch up. Dogs seem welcome. Car park round the back. Welcoming atmosphere, would definitely go again
