Unicorn in Selby

Absolutely fantastic food table for 4 and we all loved it definitely a 5 star

Stayed in pub for 2 nights, thanks to brilliant staff finding us a room. Rooms are lovely and big with very comfy king size beds. Staff in pub extremely helpful and friendly.

It was fabulous. The restaurant and toilets were immaculately clean and the staff were very efficient, polite and considerate. Service was fast and they checked on us regularly but not excessively. They cooked a mushroom korma for my daughter with ARFID because there wasn’t anything she would eat on the menu and she thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t recommend it enough. After we had finished, they brought out heated wipes for our hands and at the end, they gave us small mint chocolates with the bill, and gave the children some lollipops to enjoy. All meals were delicious, and they even gave me a kind of mint yoghurt because I was finding my curry rather spicy, and it made the meal taste even nicer. My whole family loved the place and will visit again if ever back in York.

I was at the Unicorn for a function. The pub is of modern design, the staff were friendly and attentive, i never had to wait to be served. Toilets were clean, and fresh. There were plenty of other customers, and the atmosphere was good.

Nice little place. Nice people.

Went in had a fantastic meal with my wife and son service was excellent bboth from the kitchen and the bar one of those hidden gems

The best hotel I have seen in a long time the staff are amazing and the room had a 2 person Bath at the end of the bed like a hunnymoon sweet in Vegas love it

Had a family meal for boxing day . The food was beautiful and the service was great, Really good atmosphere and great surroundings. Very good value

Staff d/ stairs were very helpful on our arrival… We stayed with family for one night as we had a family occasion to go too.. Gud value for the money on the rooms. But when we had showers the water got too hot I mean scolding hot 🥵 very dangerous for anyone to use especially with my grandson '' We opened our room door to let steam out but it then set off the alarm ( which I’m so sorry for ) but we were amazed that no one made an appearance to show up &check we were ok ……

Stayed here for 2 nights. The room was described as a deluxe double. Although it was clean, the room was extremely small with no storage for clothes apart from a couple of hangers. The bedding had not been ironed. The bathroom was spotless but again very small. The bar downstairs was lovely and reasonably priced. The Indian restaurant within the Unicorn did us a lovely meal and was reasonably priced. There is a large car park and the option of breakfast would have been nice. About a 15 mjnute walk to the centre. Not terrible but the size of the room was disappointing.

Filthy place, I work away every week and this has to be one of the worst places I’ve stayed in

The best takeaway Sunday lunch available in the Selby area at the moment. Lovely food. Massive portions and excellent price. Staff have always been friendly and efficient.

Had Sunday lunch there with my mum. The lady who served us was fabulous so helpful and friendly. The food itself was delicious and so plentiful. I got a beef dinner my mum got an OAP pork dinner. There was loads of meat 4 veg, yorkshire, mash and roasties. All cooked really well. The price was amazing too. Highly recommend.

Had Sunday dinner, absolutely spot on for the price, will be back for more, thank you.

After a change of management food is back on at the unicorn starting with a new menu and a new chef bring his own twist on traditional favourites. Huge portions at reasonable prices...cheaper and better than the local chip shop.... Well worth a visit...

Under new management Paul the manager is also the chef the fish and chips were to die for (my batter was gluten free) this was the first day of food pie night Saturday and Sunday lunch we will be back without a doubt

Back again for another scrummy meal ...never disappoints always delicious and filling. Plus it’s light on the wallet. If steak nights your thing try the mixed grill a bit of everything for the discerning carnivore... Ps the picture depicts what I couldn’t eat...also note there was a pattern on the plate when I started 👍👍👍👍👍

Great pub with happy hour 12 till 18:00. Now does food too.

At last this pub, after many indifferent landlords, is realising the latent potential it always had. Refurbishment is still on going, but already it is an enjoyable venue, and an asset to North Selby, which I cannot criticise in anyway.

Arrived early to a Sunday family dinner. It’s the worst we have had. A metal server filled with mixed frozen veg sat in water. Yorkshire puddings! When cut into were that dry just crumbled to dry little pieces. Meat bland and tough. Was advised by the chap who seated us to try their cauliflower cheese. Asked about it at server, there wasn’t any left, was told that’s the first thing to always go, usually within first half hr is service. Asked for knives and forks for the family.... came back with 1 set, had to wait 5 mins! Yes 5 mins whilst they washed some.

Highly recommend. Great service. Very friendly and helpful staff. We are not from this area. So they were great to get tips of area. ( Manager and chief) We have eaten twice there now. In two weeks. Going back tonight. As we leave this area tomorrow. Must try the steak. Chief truly knows how to cook a good one. Love recommending something great when you come across a good one. Keep up the great work.

Wasn't up to my expectations meat was dry vegetables all in one Pan lumps in mash wouldn't recommend sorry don't like leaving bad feedback staff was very nice though

Just had an amazing Sharing Steak at the Unicorn. Asked for it to be done medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. Great deal as the 1lb steak with the chips, veg and salad plus a really nice bottle of wine was only £25 for the two of us. The service was exceptional, really friendly and professional. We will recommend and return.

Served meats and Yorkshire puddings, to be told having to wait 5 min for mash and veg, carrots and roasted potatoes brick hard. Tables to close together, bar service slow. Not equipped for what they are doing. Definitely will not be back

Fab day, band and bar outside, child friendly with bouncy castle and play set. Definitely recommend

Recommended by my brother in law and apart from waiting over an hour for our meals, but in their defence they were really busy. The Sunday lunches were really tasty and the portions were on the larger size, even the childrens portion, the service was acceptable as well. All 8 of us enjoyed our meals and we will definitely be back. I would recommend a Sunday lunch at the Unicorn.

If you like steak you'll love this. Cooked to perfection with generous portions of chips, veg and salad. Onion rings with whole mushrooms and a delicious peppercorn sauce. The meal comes with a glass of wine and The Unicorn always has a good choice of at least three different real ales. Highly recommended. Cheers Keith. Will definitely drop in next time I'm in Selby.

Reviewed on the basis of Sunday Lunch. Quite simply stated that is exactly what you get a traditional pub Sunday lunch. Great quality and very tasty (and very popular)
